Having completed their initial 4 session personal training package, I'm very impressed with the quality and service of this club. It has provided the motivation to continue with subsequent training.

Don’t get me wrong the gym is great. But for $80+ a month it lacks a lot. Other gyms in the area are way cheaper but have more equipment and better locker rooms. I’d give the gym a 4/5 because of the lack of some but locker rooms are honestly near filthy. They claim they have a β€œsteam room” but that’s not the case. Bathrooms are always really dirty and should be cleaned and wiped more often.

Although the gym is good, the men’s bathroom is near filthy. Smells bad, never clean, flooded and just very badly kept. They say they have a working steam room but the truth is the steam room is even colder than the bathroom!! For $80+ a month they could do way better! Please fix these problems πŸ™

It is a small gym, but it has all the machines I need and doesn't get too crowded. The steam shower is awful and borderline unusable. The bathroom and locker room are also pretty nasty. Overall the gym is not worth the price and I wouldn't have joined if it wasn't in walking distance.

I go here. It is honestly not the nicest gym, but it’s relatively affordable. It’s convenient and they clearly have added a diverse amount of equipment to maximize the space.

It’s not an β€œexperience”, but it does the job. Easy to get in, grab a towel, hang your stuff, and get out when you’re in a rush but have to get work in.

Locker rooms area is not great.

Used to be cleaner, but also used to have less useful equipment. I’d prefer higher function to fashion.

The gym is fine with all basic equipment, but it's old, crowded, and overpriced. Somewhat limited hours for a gym. They recently raised prices and cited new equipment and an increased numberof classes as the reason. However, the gym doesn't offer any classes and there is zero new equipment. So this is not really acceptable.

The BHAC in Brookline is a first-class, no frills health club. It's got everything you need for cardio and weight training. The staff and members are all friendly, and the club is in a great location in Brookline. Equipment is rock-solid, and the price is very reasonable. Definitely recommend it!

Old rusted machines, odorous matted rug floor, dirt on the foot peddles of every stairmaster, what smelled like paint drying in one corner, no classes, dirty cramped bathroom, bored staff, all for $75/month. Either improve the gym or drop the price to about 30.

I've had a great experience at the Beacon Hill Athletic Club in Brookline Village. The place is always clean, it's never too crowded to get on the equipment you need, and it's completely welcoming of people new to going to the gym. I've had a phenomenal experience with my trainer, Will Campbell – he is a great listener, he creates routines uniquely suited to where I am in my growth and aspirations, and he focuses on helping me achieve my goals. I couldn't be happier.

I've got a trick to get a lower rate.

I signed up with my girlfriend, but she could only come to the gym on weekends, so we negotiated a special rate for her and attached her to my account. She did not pay, I paid, it was all under my name.

The gym itself is fine. We cancelled our account when we moved away - except, they never cancelled my girlfriend's rate, and continued to charge me over $840. I emailed them asking for a refund and they said nothing. They did stop charging me though, which seems like an admission of guilt.

So sign up with a friend, say you can only come on weekends, get a special rate, and have your friend cancel. Now you've got a lower rate! Gym staff didn't care that her badge was weekends only, so you can probably go in whenever you want.

Needless to say this is a one-star review for scummy business practices

I've been a member here for a year and really love it. It's a quintessential community gym with a membership that reflects the diversity of the neighborhood, including ages from high school through octogenarians of all shapes and sizes. It has everything I need, (though I'd love it if they had a seated calf machine ;), from free weights to strength machines to a wide range of cardio. Some recent additions to the cardio offerings include a skierg and versaclimber. Some of the equipment is on the older side but well maintained. Staff is friendly and helpful, and trainers experienced and attentive. Regardless your fitness and overall health goals, you'll be able to find what you need here to achieve them in a no-pressure, community-minded setting.

This gym packs a lot of options into a small space, particularly if you're looking to do strength training of some kind. I started working out here a few months ago when I signed up for personal training sessions with Will Campbell, who manages the gym. He is a delight to work with, and his training techniques have really hit the sweet spot for me between gains and being too sore to do all the other active stuff I want to do. Definitely a satisfied customer. The gym itself is always clean and the equipment always functions well. I also appreciate the ample stretching/bodyweight training space, which I think is lacking in some smaller gyms.

I have been going to this gym since I moved to Brookline about a year and a half ago. This is one of the best family oriented gyms that I have ever frequented. I have been receiving personal training from Will Campbell since I signed up, and he has been incredibly attentive, professional, and a wealth of knowledge about fitness. As a former athlete who is now 7 months pregnant, he has custom tailored my workouts to adapt to my physical needs while still making things challenging. Additionally, I saw a comment regarding the gym's mask policy which seems like a gross exaggeration, Will has always encouraged me to lower my mask and take a few breaths as needed during training. This gym truly cares about it's members.

Such a great environment. The members range from young to old in age which is nice to see. All the staff is very helpful and welcoming. I signed up with the trainer named Will as I wanted to carefully workout because I had a back injury some years back. Will taught me in person at the gym and you could tell he knew what he was doing. After 6 months my body was stronger and I can’t even believe it but I had LESS back pain. He had taught be how to properly strengthen the muscles in my body where it mattered and I’m so so grateful for his years of experience and knowledge that got me where I am. It also helps that he’s just a friendly and funny guy. Forever grateful to work with Will and wouldn’t trust anyone else with my personal training!

This location is small and cramped which is probably why i’ve never seen it super crowded. The pics advertised for this location are totally off thanks to long zoom shots. Locker room (men) needs an update and is not very clean. Three shower stalls with only on that has a shower curtain. Equipment can be cleaned better. it seems they only towel the seats and handles. Most of the equipment has rusted and def needs to be looked at more closely.
Not what i consider a HEALTH club.

There is a general lack of decent strength training equipment, the free weight area is small and often crowded, the rates are not competitive, and there are hidden fees in the contract.

I see no reason to be a member here when there are better, cleaner, and more competitively priced gyms in the area.

When I first contacted I spoke to Will who was very helpful and very knowledgeable about knee replacements since he had worked with people with them before. I have had questions and He has always been very helpful. He paired me with Laura and she was my Personal Trainer. I needed help with a recent knee replacement. She was very thorough and knowledgeable on exercises that would be the best for strengthening my knee. She soon quickly discovered that my left hip did not have full range of motion and facilitated me contacting my Physical Therapist and getting the treatment started to improve the flexibility. I am moving much better now with all the sessions and exercises. Thank you so much for excellent service.

Been coming here for over a year. Will always greets you in the morning and is always friendly and helpful. He and the crew have done an exceptional job tackling the pandemic version of the gym head on. Equipment is clean and spaced out well. Moreso, everyone respects the rules and wipes down all equipment after use (which we should have been doing anyway, right?) I come in twice a day now and don't feel it is over crowded. This is a team effort and feels good working out knowing that everything has been wiped down by the prior user. Fabulous job guys!

When we moved to Brookline last summer we began looking for a gym to replace our longstanding membership in a branch of the Y. The Brookline Village branch of Beacon Hills Athletic Clubs has turned out to be the right match for us. The club doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but it has plenty of good, up-to-date, well-maintained equipment and free weights as well as a good space for group classes. There is considerable diversity among the members--which is important to us--and a relaxed, nonjudgmental environment in the gym. The best thing of all is the staff who are very skillful, patient, knowledgeable trainers. This was an excellent choice for us.

Great local gymβ€”I like the variety of cardio machines and classes (mostly spinning). Staff members are very friendly, towels are provided, and there is a large weight room for use as well. Even at peak seasons/hours there is plenty to do and I never find myself waiting to use anything! The year-long commitment is the best deal I've found while shopping for gyms in the area, but month-to-month is also available for not much more.

Beacon Hill Athletic Club in Brookline Village is a small neighborhood club that suits all of your basic needs, with friendly welcoming staff. It has an extensive weight lifting equipment selection for its small footprint and there is never a wait for cardiovascular equipment. There is a studio with some classes, though there are not tons of class options at this location. Towel service and clean bathrooms/locker rooms/showers are great additions. The personal training services are also really amazing here, led by Will Campbell, the club manager who also is an excellent, skilled and experienced trainer. All in all, this BHAC branch is smaller than other fancier clubs in Boston (bonus - it also costs less); it is a convenient neighborhood option that meets all of your basic training needs and is all around a welcoming place to come and work out.

Pros: It's a small neighborhood gym but it has everything I need for my workouts. I usually go in the morning and the machines are available nearly all the time. Decent gym. Not too smelly. I think however there should be more kalestinec space versus generic standard weight machine. Also there should be more protective pads and ergonomic grips for the machine to preclude injury. Customer service is okay at best. Trainers usually consumed with clients. But little attention is given to general population who often are doing exercises incorrectly.

I take classes here and I especially enjoy the ones with Brian and Max. I drop in for yoga occasionally and I like the pace of the classes. You can work up a sweat but there are modifications for people with different abilities. Overall, a nice facility, conveniently located near the green D like stop. Staff are great, you have the equipment you need. Some personal cons: wish there were more space for another squat rack and stretching - though you can use the group workout room to stretch when there aren't classes. Would recommend to others, especially because you can take advantage of other BHAC locations without extra charge like other Boston gyms clubs.

It's a good gym and for the dues it's not bad. All the weight equipment is there that I need. I usually work out 3 days a week rotating between 6 different muscle groups. I'm normally able to use different machines at one time, which I know can be annoying for some, but I haven't had too many people ask to share. Of course I wouldn't mind, I'm not a dick.

The membership comes with towel service, and any class they offer is included. Showers are also available, but I live pretty close so I've never used it. Staff is also friendly, and are always at the front desk.

Got my membership here 3 wks ago. Nad the guy who opened my membership NEVER told me tha I had to buy a parking permit. 3 weeks I have been coming here, I have been parking at the same spot. Last night, my car gets towed and the gym does not take any accountability. Lee the supervisor at brookline location comes determined to not help me pay for the toe. How can they allow a toe company to toe from their own property and not take accountability. Plus, Lee asked me if I want to close my membership. That's the best this supervisor could do...close my membership. They lost a customer who had signed a 1 year membership with them. Bottomline is that they don't care about their customers. They do not reciprocate loyalty. Very poorly managed.

In late 2015 I knew I needed to get healthy again for myself and my family. I was nervous because I tried for years to work out at home and just could not find the motivation to stick with it. It was a constant struggle and I was down on myself for failing over and over again when I would start a fitness or nutrition regimen. I joined Beacon Hill Athletic Club in January of 2016 and immediately started taking Kettlebells, Tabata, Cardioboxing and a few other excellent classes. At 38 years old, I have never felt so motivated to push myself physically and mentally to get, and stay, in shape.

I started Kelly's 10-Day challenge mid-February 2016. I was worried it would take up too much time (documenting, checking in, weighing food, etc.) in my already busy life (2 kids, work full-time+), but I completed it and lost over 9 lbs. in the short time. The 40/40/20 theory she uses is unlike any other plan I had ever seen and although my daily caloric intake was low, I trusted Kelly, and it turned out I learned the tools on how to eat a much more balanced diet. The high level of support Kelly provided throughout the program was just what I needed.

BHAC in Brookline Village is small, non-intimidating, and great for people at any fitness level. I've belonged to a few other gyms in the area and this is by far the most welcoming, unpretentious, and inexpensive.

POOR PHONE SIDE MANNER AT BROOKLINE TODAY....I've been paying for 3 memberships for the past 3-4 years. I wanted to cancel as at least two haven't been used for over 2 years and we were still being charged. I called today (4/27/16) just before opening to speak expecting to leave a message today. Surprisingly, a woman answered, Beacon Hill Athletic club. I related I knew it was before 6A but was happy to she picked up. I asked who I could speak to regarding cancelling a membership. Her tone immediately changed and said "I just walked in, the computers aren't on - you'll have to call back after 6." I replied "Ok, thank you" and she just hung up. No offer to take a name and number and to get back to me. I was a bit steamed by the experience and called back 2 minutes later. Jim answered and identified himself after stating the business name...When I asked to speak to the woman who I had just spoken to he figured I had called the wrong (Wellesley) store but said I could call and anyone over at the Brookline office should be able to help me. No talk about the computers not being on or other nonsense.

I called brookline -still before opening- and first identified myself and asked with whom I was speaking. She just repeated the club name to which I asked for her name a second time. She identified herself as "Lee". I said Hi Lee, I had called earlier about the membership. I don't know if you know this but you hung up on me. Her response: No apology. She flat out just denied it. "No I didn't". To give her a second chance I repeated how the conversation went and she said "No, I said goodbye you just didn't hear me." I asked if she was calling me a liar to which her response was "Look, I don't have time for this and now I AM going to hang up on you." At which point i decided to hang up and write this review. Will see if I can call and speak to the actual owner....let's see what he says. WHY ANSWER THE PHONE IN THE FIRST PLACE IF YOU'RE PRESSURED FOR TIME??? WHY NOT LET IT GO TO VM AND ANSWER WHEN YOU'RE REALLY OPEN FOR BUSINESS AND FEEL YOU CAN BE COURTEOUS!

Jim good work IS noted.

Will see if the owner takes the time to look me up and actually call me back. I'll wait for the owner's response before I decide to cancel ALL the memberships instead of just the two I initially was looking into. Not sure if this call will happen.

What I am sure about is that if an auto charge was denied, they'd be calling me back MOST promptly!

The equipment is really nice, very few of the staff members are nice. I went to this gym for about a year and I was being bullied and harass by the manager, it's not really a teen friendly gym. It's small and over price!

This gym rocks!! I’ve been a member for over a year and have been going to BHAC (almost) every morning these past few months. The atmosphere is energetic enough to push me through my workouts, but also laid back enough so I feel more comfortable and less self-conscious as I go through the motions. Staff is very friendly, as are the diverse group of people who work out here. Machines aren’t too crowded, and facilities are clean. Location is only one block away from the Green Line, and street parking is available (at least when I go!)

I've been a member of this club for the last year and a half and am really happy with the decision to have chosen them over other gyms in the Brookline area.

BHAC-Brookline is in a great central location, Brookline Village. It is a quick walk from the D-Green Line and right next to the 66 and 65 bus stops. Parking is also available if you get their parking pass, which is totally worth it for those days you don't want to (or can't) walk home.

They have a large assortment of cardio and strength training machines. Since I've joined I've seen the gym update machines and equipment before they reach their last stretch and fix anything that breaks. (I also learned that cleaning treadmills is a thing because I see them do it all the time!) It is a well oiled machine which pays off because I always find the machines and equipment I need.

The staff is absolutely the best! They're always very friendly and courteous. They're receptive to your feedback and concerns from simple things like turning on the air to bigger things like helping you with your health insurance gym benefit paperwork. Their trainers, some who teach classes, have super diverse certifications (crossfit, mobility, kettlebell, etc.) so it is easy to find someone to train with that can cater to your needs. (Shout out to Ryan!) I'm a huge fan of the diversity of their classes ( I frequent Spin and Kettlebell classes) and the attentiveness of the trainers who teach them.

Highly recommend this location!

I've been a member of BHAC now for over a year and have loved my experience so much that I've referred three of my friends. The staff is helpful and friendly and the equipment is always clean. The laid back atmosphere allows me to try new classes and workouts without ever feeling intimidated. Two months ago I began personal training with Coach Kelly and it has been life changing. She is encouraging, supportive, and always pushes me to challenge myself. Through training and classes I have learned so much about fitness, nutrition, and how my body works. Thanks to BHAC I feel like an athlete again and am well on my way to achieving my fitness goals and creating new ones!
