I've had a fantastic experience at CrossFit City Line in Watertown! The gym is incredibly spacious, giving plenty of room to move and train without feeling crowded. They regularly upgrade their equipment, which shows their commitment to quality and improvement.
The owner and coaches are not only knowledgeable but genuinely supportive—they go out of their way to ensure you're learning proper form and progressing safely. I really appreciated their guidance, and I’ve learned so much since joining.
The community here is another huge plus. Fellow members are welcoming, friendly, and always ready to offer encouragement. It’s an environment that makes you want to show up and do your best. Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a positive and motivating place to work out!

We love this gym!
My kid was lucky enough to have Kenny as his coach in the junior program. Kenny is masterful at making workouts fun and effective. It was impressive how much time and care he put into teaching the kids the proper techniques and fundamentals.
The culture in this gym could not be more warm, encouraging and welcoming to people of any experience level.
Great gym!!!

Excellent gym for anyone [un]knowingly making excuses to not go to the gym. It can be difficult getting to the gym, but City Line's flexible schedule, tough workouts, and supportive members and staff make it all worth it. Coaches are very knowledgeable in all aspects of weightlifting, CrossFit movements, and nutrition. The coaches maintain a very clean, organized, safe, well-equipped, and fun facility and environment. If you're looking to improve your fitness regardless of your current abilities, I would highly recommend swinging by City Line.

I started my CrossFit journey by attending "bring a friend" day at CFCL. Little did I know that I would fall in love with both CrossFit as well as CFCL. The programming is fantastic whether you go every day, a couple times a week, or just as a drop in. The coaches are so good at scaling and modifying movements to accommodate for any injuries or fitness levels. They provide clear and consistent instructions during class and great tips on form during WODs. It's also a very welcoming and friendly community of athletes and you can always find a friend in class or someone to do something with outside of class if that's what you're looking for. They also hold extra events to focus on specific skills, build community, or address specific fitness needs. By going to CFCL over the past 4 years I've gained muscle, lost weight, built cardio endurance and have become an all-around better person! Basically I can't say enough good things about CFCL and would encourage anyone who is remotely interested to give it a try - you won't be sorry!

I can't say enough great things about City Line! I debated a while with which box in the area I wanted to go after moving from PA to MA. The location is perfect. It's 15 minutes from home and 15 minutes from work. There's a true sense of community the minute you walk into the building. The facility is large and always clean. I was impressed by the size of the box as soon as I walked in. I've never seen a box as nice as this location. The staff is knowledgeable, encouraging, and supportive. I recommend City Line to everyone!

I came to City Line five years ago on the advice of my physical therapist who said it was the best CrossFit gym in the area. Now that I’m here, I can’t imagine a better place!
If you’re a beginner, you can’t be any more so than I was: the kid who was always last to be picked in gym class but now just older! I had only run to keep in shape and hadn’t recently. I’m here to assure you that if CFCL coaches could bring me along, they can coach anyone!
Seriously, CrossFit may have a reputation as intense, but what I’ve found intense here – beyond the friendly welcome - is an emphasis on learning how to exercise with proper technique. I feel safe. The coaches are excellent at teaching how to lift and carry out gymnastic moves. Even in a class of more than a dozen, they watch carefully and give individual advice. I’ve been amazed how often they notice something and have just the piece of advice that allows me to make a correction. They listen to my questions, encourage me to listen to my body (something new for me and important since it recovers more slowly now), and have modifications when I need them. If you are a seasoned athlete, rest assured you will have plenty of company doing handstand push-ups and lifting a barbell that bends under the weight you put on it!
The coaches also set the tone for building real community, wherever any of us are in our health and fitness journey, and even during my year of taking the Zoom class option. Classmates are helpful and friendly! At first, I was intimidated by the top athletes, but that was short-lived because they reach out with encouragement just as often as anyone else. It doesn’t matter that I’m lifting less or getting in fewer rounds, I feel like I belong. That feeling of belonging has helped me come in and work my hardest at each WOD. When I first started, the warm-up felt like a workout in itself … I have loved feeling like my body can do more now than ever before!

CrossFit Cityline was such a gem to find and I can’t say enough good things about it. The community and coaches are all extremely welcoming. From the moment you step foot inside everyone is friendly. On top of that, the space is outstanding. It is spacious and has all of the equipment you would expect from a CrossFit and then some. If you are looking for great coaches, classes and a great community, I highly recommend stopping in.

I joined City Line 6(!) years ago, and I genuinely mean it when I say it was one of the top 3 best life decisions I've ever made. I was so intimidated when I first started as I didn't have a background playing sports, but I knew I wanted to maintain the active lifestyle I'd built over time and wanted to learn more about weightlifting. I'd become bored with the "regular" gym, and I wanted to learn more from experienced coaches about proper form and mechanics. I was also seeking a gym or coach that could provide programming as I knew that cobbling something together on my own wasn't going to get me very far.

I'm still here six years later because I've experienced all of these things and so much more. The coaches at City Line care about their athletes and each member's goals, growth, and wellness, and they consistently provide helpful movement cues, instruction, and modifications. I've seen and experienced steady, consistent progress throughout the years I've been a member, and it's thanks largely to such mindful coaching. I've also done numerous personal training sessions and have always walked away having had a TON of fun *and* with steps for how to work toward the next level of a movement.

And the cherry on top of all of this has been meeting so many great people and building friendships with other members who care about investing in themself and genuinely cheer on others in the process. I've learned so much about myself and grown so much thanks to City Line! If you're looking for a great workout no matter your fitness experience or background, you've found that place. Prepare to experience that and so much more!

CrossFit City Line is the second box that I have belonged to since starting CrossFit in 2017.

I came to City Line after a 10-month hiatus due to COVID shutting down my old box, and sustaining a sprained ankle and foot injury while running that put me in a compression boot.

After the boot came off, I was hesitant to get back in the game. A good friend of mine encouraged me to join CFCL. He spoke highly of the coaching and knowledge that's in-house.

I'm not a natural athlete. In my mid-forties, I came to take my fitness more seriously.

The coaches were all well aware of my injury from day one. They kept me in my lane with scaled exercises as I slowly regained my strength and fully rehabbed my leg. Within a few months, I was back to running and doing box jumps.

CrossFit City Line has been the perfect spot for me because I can work out alongside some true athletes and continue to challenge myself.

It's no frills, no egos, and a very supportive community of coaches and classmates who want to take better care of themselves.

Even on the days when I dread the workouts, I’m happy and thankful to be there.

This place is 5 out of 5. If I could give it more stars I would.

CrossFit can be intimidating but the staff here is extremely welcoming and warm. They will correct you if your form needs adjustments and will really encourage you throughout the class. I loved the culture where you have a circuit and if you finish earlier than your peers you cheer them on until they finish.

I also want to give a special shout out to Coach Laurel who introduced me in the beginning of class to give me a warm welcome. She remembered that I was visiting from Long Beach and was here for the week in Boston and traveling to Vermont.

I highly recommend to anyone who is interested in CrossFit. I loved it so much I even bought a t-shirt.

I knew from the first day that this was the place for me. I'm a college student away from home and truly feel like I have found myself a home here. I have nothing but great things to say about CFCL. Great people. Great workout space. Great WODs. Great support. Great communication. Good times all around. All of the coaches have been incredible and they always have clear and helpful advice. The scalability of the WODs makes it so that everyone has a fit-for-size challenge. The Triib app they use makes scheduling and viewing the work outs very straightforward. It's always a highlight of my day to go in and just turn off my brain and turn on my body. I've been quite happy with my results thus far and look forward to continuing my fitness journey with CFCL. And to note, this has been my first CF experience (started in June 2021). I enthusiastically endorse CFCL!

I've been going to CFCL for about 2 years now and it's by far my favorite crossfit gym (and I've attended classes at a bunch of different locations before I found CFCL!). Really large gym. I dropped in on a work trip and had a great workout and experience at CFCL. Personally I really love the “squares” set up. Everyone has space and equipment…I find it really comfortable covid or not. Workout was great. The warmup was thorough which I really like. Laurel, the coach, was attentive to everyone in the class. She watched my lifts and was helpful / motivating. Thanks for the hospitality. Definitely check this place out if you live in the Boston area or are visiting.

Crossfit City Line is amazing. I have been attending classes there for the last 5 years on and off through college and I could not be happier. The coaching staff is amazing and keep you motivated and accountable for your health and fitness. The community is great as well, you always feel welcomed and included. As someone who does not enjoy working out much, and finds it hard to stay motivated at a traditional gym, Crossfit City Line is the perfect place that I actually enjoy going and getting a workout in. Highly recommend!

Love that place. Great coaches that keep you safe, adjust WODs if you are recovering from injuries and yet, push you so that you keep getting better. Highly recommend the place.
I figured this is a good time to update my review. I still love this gym and I am particularly impressed how they keep folks safe during the pandemic. In addition to always being compliant with regulations, they really enforce masks, social distancing at all times, provide cleaning products and clean all the equipment and everything that has been touched is actually part of the class. I have visited other gyms but none make me feel as safe as this one.
The coaches continue to be superb and the community is warm and welcoming. If I could, I'd give this gym more than 5 stars.

5 STARS! HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

CrossFit City Line is an amazing community! I give the highest recommendation!

All the coaches are amazing. My first experiences were with Coach Rachel and Coach Cassi. Both were very positive and welcoming.

The coaches are friendly, warm and highly experienced. In hindsight, the only change I would have made was beginning sooner!

Head Coach and Owner Mat, General Manager Cassi and all the coaches have made a very special environment which fosters community, athleticism, philanthropy, and friendships.

CrossFit City Lines website is very informative. I read the Work Out of the Day (WOD) and Crossfit educational blogs written by the coaches every day. Every aspect of CrossFit City Line is top notch. There is easy parking, clean training space, and locker rooms. The coaches are fun and extremely talented and the other athletes (members) are humble, friendly and warm.

As an athlete at CrossFit City Line, you can not only train your entire body through exercise and nutrition but also your mind! Prior to CrossFit City Line, I only exercised my body.

I have learned proper nutrition is 70% of an athlete's overall success. For the previous twenty years, I have not paid attention to my nutrition. Once I turned 44 and lost a parent due to a heart attack I decided to get serious about nutrition. In April, I began working on my nutrition with Coach Joe. He taught me the correct foods to eat to reach my goals and kept me accountable. In six months, I reduced my body fat 10%.

In August, I began Mindset Rx Training with Coach Rachel. She and I discussed my goals and we meet weekly to keep me accountable. In the first week of working with her, I made a major breakthrough towards accomplishing one of my major goals. I'm looking forward to continuing to work with both Coach Joe and Coach Rachel.

Upon meeting the coaches and spending time with other athletes at CrossFit City Line I knew immediately that I wanted to be part of the community. Every interaction I have had in the last eight months has been extremely positive. I have overcome my fears of doing CrossFit and am happy to have become an athlete at CrossFit City Line. I’m honored to be a member and athlete and highly recommend CrossFit City Line.

When I moved into Watertown about 2 years ago, I was looking for a close to home gym where I could workout and stay fit. I was very hesitant to join a CrossFit based gym, but boy is City Line truly not like any other gym. This is a gym that prioritizes serving its community more than anything else. With multiple fitness programs and packages (apparent more than ever now with pandemic, where they want to cater to ever members's comfort level whether it is working out or working in form home), City Line embodies making fitness accessible and fun. With a community that is built around these principles of inclusion, adaption, and camaraderie, it's no surprise to me that the members of this gym keep coming back, myself included. 10/10 Would Recommend!

Over the last 4 years or so I've worked out at probably around 15 boxes and have to say CityLine is at the top of the pile.

Why?

Great coaches and coaching - every class is consistently approached with the same rigour; run through of workout, technique, scaling options where needed, thoughtful adjustments provided during workouts

Programming - varied, interesting, challenging, quickly provides foundation for personal gains, considered and prepared thoughts on scaling provided, additional workshops for developing more specialized skills eg gymnastics provided

Set up - great space, ample size, varied range of quality kit to cover the programming and also accommodate individual needs / Open Gym

People - friendly, welcoming, good vibe amongst the varied clientele who work out there, socially flexible: ie you can make it your 'whole world' or just enjoy working out with great folk and looking forward to seeing them in class

Dynamic - their fast and nimble reaction to Covid has been amazing. The shift to virtual (Zoom, virtual coaching etc) and then considered phased reopening inline with CDC guidelines has been truly impressive.

I was lucky enough to have Cityline recommended to me by a colleague when I first moved up to Boston 4 years ago and I wouldn't hesitate recommending them to anyone.

The Crossfit community has been so helpful to us in our recent moves - feeling a part of a community, keeping our fitness goals, etc. so we knew when we moved to newton finding a new gym with the right fit was very important. We tried other gyms (also good) but felt Crossfit Cityline was the best fit for us.
1 year later we feel very fortunate to be a part of this community. Through everything that’s happening I think it’s even more important to feel a part of something and have people around us (in whatever form that now takes!) who care.

Mat, the owner, has been at this a long time and it shows. My favorite part about City Line is it's not just a blanket approach to every person that walks in the door. They meet with you to really understand you and your goals so they give you exactly what you need - that could be personal training, group classes, virtual, etc. You don't have to guess what to do anymore because they know!

City Line is an incredible gym and their coaches have cultivated a welcoming and inclusive community. When I first walked through the doors at City Line, I didn't know anything about CrossFit, lifting weights or functional fitness. I was 40lbs overweight, skinny-fat, had high blood pressure, could barely do a single pull-up, was about to turn 40 and was unsure whether I would be able to survive my first class. Right from the start, Mat (the owner) invested his own time to make sure that I was comfortable and that all my questions got answered. I worked with Mat through the on-ramp program so I could learn the fundamentals and could ease into training in a way that was safe and controlled. Mat and the other coaches are what set this gym apart. Their programming is always first rate and always includes options to suit everyone's needs/abilities. The coaches always take the time to help explain every movement and help scale workouts so that everyone is challenged, regardless of their abilities or limitations. They are personally invested in your own success. As a result, you have a community of people working out together in a noncompetitive way, supporting each other and helping each other achieve their fitness goals. Two years later, I've lost the 40lbs and kept it off, I have normal blood pressure, I'm stronger and more fit than I've ever been in my entire life - and none of that would have happened if it wasn't for City Line. During quarantine, they have gone above and beyond to keep their community engaged and working out from home (including lending equipment, making daily videos to explain workouts, hosting "live" zoom workouts, assigning individual coaches for questions/help, setting up social events, and on and on). If you're on the fence and wonder if now is the right time to start working out or if City Line is the right place, I would strongly recommend giving them a call or reaching out through their website. You won't regret it!

CFCL hits every mark. I've been going there for six months now and I'm apart of amazing community. Besides the facility which is excellent, and a space that is kept super clean, the coaches are skilled, knowledgeable, motivational and caring. CFCL put lots of attention for healthy mind set, team work and friendship together with healthy lifestyle attitude. They provide many other complementary workshops about nutrition, health and also having inspiring giving back to community activity.

If you are toying with the idea of CrossFit or need a boost to your motivation to go to the gym, this is a great gym and community to join. For a style of working out that can potentially be intimidating or have a lot of preconceived notions attached to it, those feelings immediately subside while working through the OnRamp program and joining your first class. Most classes are taught by two coaches who always review the workout and modifications, run every attendee through the same warm up, and demonstrate all options for completing the workout. There is time to discuss with a coach about modification for any injury or ability level, and everyone completes the workout as they can with encouragement from the coaches and other attendees. All coaches are very knowledgeable in all aspects of weightlifting, CrossFit movements, and nutrition and take the time to ensure they understand your personal journey and see if they can assist in that. All members I have gotten to meet are approachable and motivated. There's always "fist bumps and high fives" before every workout and no one cleans up until everyone has finished. I look forward to going to the gym as often as I can no matter who is coaching and doing my best that day.
For those going to work or somewhere after their workout, there is a full locker room with shower facilities and shampoo, conditioner, and body wash provided.
It's definitely worth a try if you are considering CrossFit at any ability level.

Hands down the best gym with the best people! I am new to crossfit and tried a couple other places before I found this one. Other places have made me felt very unwelcome and I felt very discouraged. At Cityline every single coach takes the time to get to know you and builds a strong friendship. They take the time to understand any injury you have and help find different work outs that best fits you. I use to go to a couple of spin classes, and would be very picky about the teacher who I would go to. At cityline there is not one teacher whos class I would not take, I highly recommend all of them. All the members are so chill, welcoming, and social so it makes your work out fun but also challenging. I struggled a lot with nutrition. What diet to go on, what diet not to go on, am I eating too much or not enough. Crossfit City line designs programs that help picks the perfect plan for you. I have lost 5 pounds of fat and gained muscle since I started In September. I understand portion size and how much I should eat now! I high recommend Crossfit city line!

As a relatively sedentary person, I had always felt intimidated at the thought of CrossFit and only reluctantly signed up for Barbell Betties at CFCL on the recommendation of a friend. What I found was entirely different than what I had feared. The program is completely supportive, led by two amazing coaches, Cassi and Rita. They meet each student where she is and help her to progress to the best of her abilities. They are great cheerleaders and motivators, and they are extremely knowledgeable about the body, fitness, and nutrition. After four sessions, my body is stronger than it has ever been. As an added bonus, the class has also been great for my mind – it is a fantastic release of stress and anxiety after a day of work. I highly recommend it. You are going to love it!

I simply love this place.

After flirting with the idea of attempting CrossFit for a couple years, I decided to finally make it happen. After extensive research of various CrossFit boxes in the area, all signs pointed to CrossFit City Line (CFCL). I scheduled a "no sweat intro" with Coach Joe and I've never looked back. He gave me a tour of the gym, told me about the community of people that attended, and told me about how the classes worked. He made me feel welcome from the moment I stepped in. I signed up immediately because I knew I was in the right spot.

The community of CrossFitters and Coaches at CFCL are amazing. From the very first workout I started making friends, felt included, and never felt judged or intimidated. Everyone is positive and supportive. Whether you're 25, 65, male, female, athletic or nonathletic, this is the place for you. The coaches will guide you to make sure you're doing the movements correctly, so you'll never feel like you won't know what you're doing. The coaches truly know their stuff and are the best of the best! Their knowledge about science of the body, diet, and nutrition amazes me.

I'm currently 3 months into this new chapter of my life, and I can confidently say that I've never felt better. I'm down about 3% body fat and 15 pounds so far thanks to attending CFCL workouts 4-5 days a week, along with proper nutrition guidance from the coaches. My energy level has increased, I feel amazing, and I'm starting to lean out. This is all due to healthy changes I've made, and not from some kind of fad diet.

If you've ever wanted to try CrossFit, or never have but are wanting to make a change in your life, I promise that you won't regret trying CrossFit City Line. The beauty of CrossFit is that every workout is able to be scaled down to whatever fitness level you're at. Wherever you are in your fitness journey, you CAN do CrossFit. My advice? Do yourself a favor and book a no sweat intro with one of the coaches. You won't regret it, and it'll be one of the best decisions you've ever made. My only regret is that I didn't discover this wonderful place earlier.

I can’t say enough great things about CrossFit City Line. I’ve been doing CrossFit for four years and have never experienced a gym quite like this one. I am currently 6 months into my pregnancy and the coaches have been immensely supportive, checking in before, during, and after class. I had been a member of CFCL from 2015 to 2018. CFCL is a one of a kind CrossFit gym where the coaches are extremely knowledgable, the community is welcoming, and the facility is second to none. The coaching staff is very engaging during classes and extremely receptive to feedback. CFCL is not your typical CrossFit gym. Mat and the other coaches are very attentive to your daily general well-being. When I had told Mat of my intention to train for a half-marathon this past year, he had instructed me on how to incorporate my running with CF classes as well as optimizing my nutrition for endurance training (PR'ed my previous HM time by almost 10 minutes). My wife (started CF at CFCL) and I had recently moved closer to Worcester for our jobs and needless to say, we have not been able to replicate our experience since. Crossfit Cityline is one of a kind. After starting my CF journey about 4ish years ago, I found myself moving over to CFCL when my first gym closed. It ended up being a blessing in disguise. Even beyond the facility itself being a great big space and having locker-rooms with full showers, they have an unbelievably dedicated coaching staff and have created a close-knit, supportive community. Although I've since moved to the west coast, CFCL is still my "home gym" and welcomes me every time I come back home. (A shout out to the coaches who, even after Im away for months, will never hesitate to correct my form to better me each time Im home.)

Amazing coaches!

I moved to Boston recently and was looking for boxes near my home. I tried Crossfit One Nation first and while I liked their their workout I didn’t like how disengaged the experience felt. Too many people, so it seemed everyone was just a number. Crossfit Cityline is the complete opposite! The coaches are super engaged in each class and make sure to encourage members interactions with one another. The WODs are always unique and challenging, not at all repetitive! CFCL is all about the whole picture and they offer a variety of different programs to help you challenge yourself physically and mentally. CFCL is worth your time.

No matter what you are looking for in your fitness life, CityLine will provide what you need. If you are an experienced athlete, you will become a better one through CrossFit. You will gain different levels of strength, agility, mobility and body composition than you ever thought possible. The CFCL coaches take you step by step through various levels of modification, they will push you to do more than you thought you could while keeping you safe. They can set up nutrition programming that will allow you to reach your ideal body composition (body fat, muscle mass, etc.). I have been an athlete my whole life, but I have never been as happy physically as I have been since joining CFCL.
If you are brand-new to fitness, the coaches and the community will support you, teach you, and encourage you every step of the way. CrossFit is truly a 'no-fault' workout - everyone can (and should) do it.
You won't find a better place to learn, to make friends, and to be the best you can be than CityLine.
Come give it a try - you will not regret it and you WILL become a better person for joining.

I joined Crossfit City Line about two months ago on the recommendation of one of my old coaches and I'm glad I took her advice. I was at my old gym for about two years and it's never easy to jump right into a new community after being settled for so long, but I have nothing but good things to say about the experience.

All of the coaches I've met are knowledgeable and friendly, and clearly have plenty of experience and confidence in what they do. The workouts are a lot of fun and extremely challenging, and the facility itself is great; always very clean, well kept and plenty of equipment. There is also a strong emphasis on warming up and mobility work before and after workouts, which for me is brilliant since I work on my feet and any niggling injuries can really take their toll.

Everyone I've met so far has been super friendly, and it's definitely a close knit and welcoming community to be a part of. If you're shopping around for a new gym, I couldn't recommend it enough!

When my fiance and I wanted to start CrossFit, we decided to try as many gyms around the Newton/Watertown area as we could find. While there are a lot of good gyms in the area, this one was the best. The coaches are friendly and attentive, and you really get the sense that they're invested in your success. The facility is large and well-organized with plenty of equipment. The other folks in the classes are great, and there's a real sense of community.
We've been going for over a year now, and we've both seen a lot of improvement in our strength and endurance. We feel motivated to work hard in the classes and to keep coming back. The classes are larger than they might be at other gyms, but the coaches are able to handle it while still giving everyone individual attention. They're great about offering scaling options for everyone and accommodating people with injuries.
We are very happy with this gym and intend to keep going here as long as possible.

Crossfit is not the boutique experience it may have been a few years ago. Many gyms have popped up to compete in very close proximity to each other and to further complicate things there are gyms that offer “functional fitness” and a Crossfit style atmosphere.

I would advise anyone to seek the genuine article in Crossfit city line. The facilities are expansive and comfortable but the real experience is in the coaching. I have never felt as so completely encouraged and driven as by this staff.

If you want to get fit, have fun doing it and meet wonderful people please visit them.

I love being part of such an amazing community at CFCL! Having never done CrossFit before, this gym was recommended to me and I joined almost a year ago. The beginner program was welcoming, anything but intimidating, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about the coaches. Workouts are designed and tailored with all experience and skill levels in mind. In addition to the encouraging classes, there are fun events that members can take part in throughout the year. I would recommend CFCL to anyone who is looking to find motivation, learn something new, or enhance their current workout routine!

I joined CFCL about 10 months ago. I always liked the idea of CrossFit but when I tried other gyms I never stuck it out, until I came to City Line. The coaches are amazing, they motivate you to be better, help push you further, while making sure you are safe doing it. Most of the classes I attend have 2 coaches in the class, which means everyone can get the attention and coaching they need. The coaches are my favorite part of the gym, but something else that I think is unique are the events and activities the gym holds regularly. A few weeks ago they had a Walden Pond WOD, which was such a fun time, and great to get out of the gym and apply your fitness in a different environment. I would definitely recommend this gym to anyone looking to start CF for the first time, someone new to the area or someone who just hasn’t found the right gym yet. City Line provides so many different opportunities to the members, there’s something for everyone.

These guys absolutely rock. Being a 40 yr old who's been out of the gym for quite some time now I was hesitant to try out crossfit. City Line takes the extra time to ensure you learn the basic movements, have the understanding and injury avoidance with their beginner program. I was hooked just after a few classes and now am a regular. The coaches are great and they pay close attention to what you're doing and will step in and make corrections without making you feel like you're being singled out. If you're looking to try CF and/or are moving to the Boston area and need a new gym I highly recommend that you check these guys out.

Having done CrossFit for the past seven or eight years, I've met a lot of coaches and been to a few gyms. Thus far CrossFit City Line has been the most well rounded one. Each coach brings a different skill and approach to training along with an excellent level of professionalism. I joined City Line midway through my first pregnancy and following an injury, all the coaches were very welcoming and always willing to modify WODs to meet my needs. Since having my daughter and wanting to really focus on getting my body back, Coach Cassi was an amazing educator around following a macro diet, and with her help I continued to meet goals I set, and the coaches have been great helping me to meet my fitness goals. Each coach continues to motivate and encourage me on my CrossFit journey.

We moved to Watertown a year ago, and one of the best thing that happened to our family was joining CrossFit City Line.

I go to the 9am or noon class usually, because it works perfectly after dropping off the kids at school and get my workout in. Sometimes when I get that itch to work out (it's a real thing), I have also gone to the early morning, or one of the evening classes, or just hit open gym if I can't make one of the class times. My favorite part is that I'm always learning something new to work on EVERY class. The coaches there are incredible, they're funny, sincere, super knowledgeable, and I feel that they always have my best interest in mind in terms of whatever workout goals I have for the day, week, month, year, whatever.

Almost every workout, I end with "man that was horrible, I can't wait to come back and do that again" :). If you ever wondered about CrossFit or you are looking for a box to call family, I highly recommend you checking CFCL out, and change your life for the better with this community.

CrossFit CityLine = AMAZING coaches and programming

I joined CFCL about 5 months ago and over those months I have grown to love the coaching staff along with all of the programming. Mat and Jenna have created a community where you personally want to push yourself to the next level of fitness.

When you walk in for the first time it could be intimidating but within seconds of walking in you will be greeted by a coach introducing themselves and welcoming you.

Each and every one of us are there for the same reason; to either get-in or stay-in good shape and the programming at CFCL will surely help you achieve your fitness goals. Don’t be intimidated by what people say about CrossFit until you try it for yourself and the same goes for trying a new box.

Form is also very important to the CFCL coaching team and good form will help you get stronger along with prevent injuries.

The coaches are here to help you succeed and it’s apparent in your day to day interaction with them. Each of the coaches I have come in contact with (Mat, Jenna, Alix, Dan, Stephen, Chris and Cassi) at one point in time have taken time during an actual workout to assist me in getting better in a particular movement or to call me out when I’m slacking.

It’s pretty impressive that they care enough to assist you in making instant changes so you can get better at a particular movement or lift.

CFCL also fosters a community on a large scale whether it be special programming and social events during the CrossFit Opens or hosting charity WOD’s for local foundations.

During the most recent charity WOD we did the classic CrossFit WOD Murph, part of the WOD required 300 Air Squats, I was slightly dragging at that point and one of the coaches came over and did the last 100 air squats with me, without even questioning it.

Whether you are just getting your feet wet in CrossFit or have been an alum for some time, I highly recommend CFCL and would tell you to try out the gym for a few workouts and I have no doubt you will feel the same way as me.

Also, if you are visiting the area for work, home for a holiday or just on a vacation, drop on in; CFCL will become your go-to box when you are away from home.

I cannot say enough good things about this gym. The coaching staff is amazing - they are knowledgeable, supportive, motivating, attentive and fun! They continuously provide helpful feedback on how to improve your skills, form and strength to become a better athlete. They push you to challenge yourself while still making sure you maintain safe form. Since starting crossfit, I have definitely seen a significant improvement in my strength, endurance and learned a lot of new movements.

The people at Crossfit City Line is extremely friendly and supportive. Mat and Jenna have regular events at the gym that encourages everyone to get to know each other. Internal competitions, holiday parties, Thanksgiving dinners, wine and WOD nights and bring a friend day are just a handful of fun events that they host. I have built great friendships here and have gotten many of my friends to join!

I can't say enough great things about this place! When I moved down to the area the owners at the gym in my home town referred me to Mat & Jenna and I'm so glad they did. Moving and joining a new gym where you don't know anyone can be tough but everyone at City Line made me feel right at home. Everyone is super welcoming and friendly. All of the coaches are so supportive and really motivate everyone to do better every day. They focus heavily on form and make sure everyone is performing every movement correctly and safely, which I love. The programming is amazing and they're always coming up with new things (accessory work, challenges, etc.) to keep everyone engaged!

I dropped in to CFCL because I was in town for a week for work and I'm really glad I did. I've been doing crossfit since 2008, but more seriously for about the last 3-4 years at my home box. The coaches at CFCL immediately started adjusting my form in a few areas and I realized I'd become complacent. They are obsessed with form at CFCL and it's great to see. The owner Mat is great and clearly knows how to analyze what you're doing and teach. At the end of the week I left wishing I could import these folks back to my box. Everyone else in the gym was really friendly too, a lot of hand pounds to go around. They're doing everything right here.

CrossFit City Line is a welcoming, warm, and well-organized community that helps everyone who walks through its doors become stronger, healthier, and happier. Every single coach is knowledgeable, professional, kind, and attentive. The coaches are personally invested in making sure every CFCL member is happy, safe, and supported. Regardless of skill level, everyone receives individualized, specific feedback during a class. I’ve been involved with CrossFit since 2012, and I learn something new every single day from my CFCL coaches that helps me to get better and stronger.

Everyone, no matter their level of experience or ability, participates and feels included in the WOD (workout of the day) because the coaches know how to scale effectively and are more than happy to do so. Once the WOD begins, coaches support their members with encouraging words. As members finish the WOD, they stay and cheer on other members until they finish. A class always ends with smiling, sweating faces congratulating each other and writing their WOD results on the whiteboard. Mat and Jenna Frankel have created a very special community that embodies the fact that CrossFit is for EVERYONE. Start taking classes at City Line and start seeing results!

After 8 months of a sedentary life style, a c-section and a whopping 52 pound weight gain, I was literally in the worst shape of my entire life. One day, I was on the floor playing with my daughter and I went to get up, only to realize that I couldn’t do so without the support of my couch!!! THAT was it, I was done, I was 31 years old and this was not going to be my life.

There was this Crossfit gym down the street, but Crossfit’s only for people who are actually in shape.

There were so many reasons not to start =
Crossfit - I’ll get in shape first, then I’ll try it.
Crossfit - Ugh, they are going to be so judgmental, I can’t even do pullups.
Crossfit. I’m scared.
Crossfit. It’s too hard.
Crossfit. I just can’t.

After a few weeks I was sick of listening to my own excuses, and I finally mustered up the courage to reach out. I remember walking in to my first workout and thinking “OK, I won’t actually DIE, it won’t actually KILL me”… and I was right, it didn't kill me. But since that day, nothing at CFCL has been as hard as it was to start.

Enter Mat and Jenna Frankel, Cassi Rebisz, Dan Melzar and Tiff Radaz. If I'd known there were 5 modern day super heroes hanging out at the end of my street I might have started sooner.

The coaching staff at CFCL is amazing. Not only are they super friendly and welcoming, but from day one you know they take their business very seriously. They are called coaches for a reason, coaches are leaders who inspire, teach, and drive results. The best coaches lead by example, and this group of incredibly talented athletes make it impossible to not respect their direction and advice.

They are slow, steady, patient, SMART, careful, strong and inspiring masters of craft.

The team creates a supportive atmosphere for ALL fitness levels. They did not get to where they are in a day, and they don’t expect you to either. ALL workouts can be scaled, reworked and modified to fit your fitness level with their help. They continually check in with you to be sure that you are able to keep up, and stay engaged with the group. The team at CFCL will never allow you to take on something you are not ready for. They are sticklers for form, and correct movements and will always make sure you have perfected one piece before moving on to the next.

The community as a whole is an uncommonly supportive one. People are friendly, helpful, positive and genuinely excited to see you succeed. One of my biggest fears was that others would judge me for not being as strong or as intense as themselves. I soon realized EVERYONE in that gym is giving EVERYTHING they have regardless of fitness level. The elite are working themselves to their breaking point, and while watching them do that impressive, it is no more, or less inspiring than watching a beginner finish their very first workout. PR’s are PR’s, watching someone work to achieve something they could not achieve before is awe inspiring. At no point is anyone thinking “well, good for them, but I’m so much better”; they have far too much respect for the sport and the work that they know you've put in to get to that point.

Outside of fitness, they also offer nutrition support at all levels. For the last 3 months I have actually been working with Coach Cassi (whatup girl!) one on one, and it’s been nothing short of life changing.

I entered CFCL on June 26th, 2014, out of shape, and out of excuses. Fourteen months later I am almost 60 pounds lighter, significantly stronger, far more functional in my day to day life and though pull-ups still eclipse me, I’m getting there 

If you're reading this, and your looking for a reason to give CFCL a shot - here's your sign. I challenge you to try. You have nothing to lose but the excuses, and you have so, so much to gain. Overtime you WILL get better, you will get stronger and you WILL become a more powerful version of yourself, but you have to start.

One of the most difficult things to find around Boston is a CrossFit gym that is reasonably priced and can fit more than 10 people in the gym at a time.

Highlights:

City Line has a great location in Watertown and a great space. Lots of open space and never feels overly crowded.

Great coaches who really care about the people and are really committed to helping each individual grow and meet their goals. I always felt like the coaches remembered the specific things that I was working on and checked in regularly. I ask lots of questions, and the coaches are have always been more than willing to go the extra mile and spend time not only answering my questions but showing me as well.

The programming is really one of my favorite parts about the gym. I haven't been able to attend City Line for several months, but I still follow their programming. If you are looking for excellent competitor programming, they have it. If you are looking for a guaranteed good workout every single day, they have it.

My wife was pretty opposed to the idea of CrossFit before she tried it at City Line. She signed up after trying it out for a week and loved it. Circumstances caused us to have to switch to a different gym, and she stopped going after only a few weeks because the she missed the coaching and accessibility of the workouts at City Line.

Clean facilities with showers and soap for showers as well.

City Line is also fairly reasonably priced for a CrossFit gym in a metropolitan area.

Definitely recommend City Line to anyone looking for a great CrossFit box, or anyone even looking to get in better shape. They will definitely help you with your fitness, and you will make a ton of friends in the process.

I am not your typical gym rat. I'm a 56 year-old professional guy. Until 10 months ago I was a very out-of-shape guy. I went to CrossFit City Line (CFCL) after making a conscious decision that I wanted to live a better, healthier life. I will admit to being intimidated when I walked into the gym - until I realized that everyone was there for the same reasons. Sure there are some folks with great bodies, but there are also lots of regular people - all working hard and pushing themselves to be healthier and fitter.

The CFCL coaches and owners are exceptional. During a class, they make you feel as though you are getting one-on-one personal training---and they do that with everyone in the class. I have never been to a class where I didn't learn something new or improve something I had already learned. 10 months later I've lost 20 lbs, gained significant endurance, and built some muscle I haven't seen since I was in my 20's.

CFCL is an exceptional place to join - no matter what your current fitness level is. You will feel welcomed, you will learn, and you will become healthier. The coaches watch every movement and work with you to improve.

Great job Mat and Jenna - you've built a tremendous facility with the BEST training available.

I droppped in to CrossFit City Line for a Sunday class and had a great time.

The coach was friendly and did not mind my short notice.
I chose City Line because of the Work Out that was programmed for the day.
It was 8 minutes to work up to a heavy Push Press single and then an EMOM of 3 Push Press at a lighter weight. Basically the programming told me they knew what they were doing.

The class was very organized and lead very well.

The facility was great and spacious. The atmosphere was excellent and the members friendly.

Great place to drop into.

I was a 3 three sport athlete in high school, and D1 athlete in college, and definitely fell into a rut the years post college. I did the marathon training, a had a membership to a local gym, I was trying to eat "well," but everything was discouraging. unstimulating, and hard to keep up with.

Finally deciding to get past the expensive hurtle of a CrossFit membership, I realized quickly it is worth every penny. I have been at CrossFit City Line (CFCL) for just over a year and always get excited for the next days workout. I feel much more in control of my body, my eating habits, and my stress levels.

I truly believe anyone can participate in, be successful with, and enjoy exercising at a CrossFit gym. If you are looking for a change in your workout routine, even if you are a bit intimidated, be strong and TRY it. You will be pleased to see that CFCL has a warm community that welcomes all levels of athletes, abilities, bodies, and enthusiasts. You will quickly find how happy you are being a member at CFCL.

I canNOT emphasize how great this place is! This past summer I joined a different crossfit gym (had never done CF before) and although I found the people to be friendly, after about two months I followed a friend's advice to check out some other places after I gave him a detailed rundown of what my previous class was like. I did some research and contacted Mat, the owner of CFCL, and after he answered a million of my emailed questions, he said I was welcome to come and observe a class.

When I did just that, I was BLOWN away by the difference between the two gyms - so much so that I didn't even let my other membership run out before signing on with cityline. From the moment I walked in, I could tell it was far superior. The classes are organized in a way that is structured from the beginning minute to the final minute - you know exactly what you should be doing the entire hour (at my previous place, we were often left to our own devices). The coaches bring you through a warm-up, an intense skills practice, and then the WOD.

Speaking of the coaches - I seriously cannot say enough good things about them, and this is really where the difference lies between cityline and the other CF gyms popping up everywhere. The coaches go through extensive training and are incredibly focused on form/technique. You will NOT be allowed to walk in there, throw on a bunch of weight, and start lifting unless you have done CF for years and have perfected your form. Their focus is on learning how to do things CORRECTLY first, THEN adding weight (my previous gym focused on piling on as much weight as you could handle and yelling "you can do it"). I can't emphasize enough how big of a difference focus on technique makes in training. Throughout each class, the coach (and often a couple of other coaches as well), walk around to check every single person's form - even the tiniest of corrections are made, which results in vast improvement. Additionally, they know how to scale. Coming from another CF gym, I was taught scaling just meant doing less of something or using less weight. Once I came to cityline, I learned that there is a very specific approach to scaling, and the majority of my workouts are individually scaled by one of the coaches so that I can receive max benefits at my own personal level and ability.

I was a little concerned about the cost at first because I'm on a pretty limited budget, but now having been at cityline for four months, I wouldn't give it up for the world. You absolutely get your money's worth between all of the daily classes that are offered, plus the individualized attention from coaches, plus the great facility, etc. It is SO worth it. Every penny.

For the record, I am out of shape - it had been a long time since I had done any sort of athletic training, and I was extremely nervous about coming on board at CFCL; however, I adapted easily due to the tone set by the coaches. Attitudes are not allowed, and veterans are expected to introduce themselves to newcomers. The culture is friendly, humorous, and encouraging. From competition-level athletes to the regular old person like me who just wants to get healthier, cityline will meet your needs.

If you have never done crossfit and you are looking to give it a try, go ahead and do the free intro class here - you will fall in love. If you are an experienced crossfitter, come to cityline - you will only get better. Do not waste your time checking out other gyms - my only regret about starting crossfit is that I did not find this place sooner.

I wish I could write even more about how great this place is - but I'm trying to avoid writing a novel... however, you can always come ask me more in person... I'll be at cityline most nights :)

Enjoy!

I joined Crossfit City Line about one year ago. I went back and forth on Crossfit in general – was it right for me? I can honestly say joining crossfit but specifically Crossfit City Line – is hands down best decision I’ve made in a very long time. Mat and Jenna have done an amazing job in making CFCL one of the best (it is really the best but you'll figure that out shortly after joining) Crossfits out there. It can look intimidating – I came from all sorts of group classes – kickboxing, step, spin... you name it I tried it. I’d always get bored and need the next challenge. I have not stopped learning and growing at CFCL. The goals are endless . Once you hit a weight or a skill you never thought you could do - you can always do it better or faster... Or if you just want a great workout - YOU CANNOT BEAT THIS. There are people of all ages, skill level that are always ready and willing to chat, help, listen, anything - it's always a fun atmosphere.
Crossfit CityLine is fun, challenging, awesome - all that great stuff but Mat and all the other coaches care. They won't let you just pick up weights with bad form just because you say or think you can - they won't let you work a skill until they know your body can handle it - there is always someone watching, coaching, helping. I'm excited to see what I'm capable of doing next year.

CrossFit Cityline is not just a gym. CrossFit Cityline is an amazing community of individuals seeking personal health and permanent satisfaction. I am more than grateful to be part of it.

Two years ago, over 40 pounds overweight and almost 40 years old, I started CrossFit and, never in my mind, imagined that I would lose all that weight and keep it off.

CrossFit Cityline's ultimate goal is to provide participants with superior personalized coaching. It is evident as proprietors, managers, and coaches insistently care, collaborate, and assist each individual in the achievement of specific goals that once appeared impossible.

Whether it's a first pull-up, losing those few extra pounds, or achieving one's personal best on a lift, if it's a goal, Cityline's coaches persist with each participant in achieving it. And the community is there supporting and cheering on.

Joining CrossFit Cityline was and is the best choice I have ever made in my life for personal health, esteem, and happiness. My story is not an exception, at Crossfit City stories like mine is what makes our gym and community stand out for the rest.

What an amazing place. First off the coaching is totally top notch, this is such a huge factor for me. Mat, Jenna, Cassi and Kenny are all wonderful coaches who push you hard but don't allow you to have poor form or get hurt. They are always happy to help and offer suggestions or advice when you hit a roadblock. I've never done any olympic lifting ever before coming to City Line but in no time I was picking up the bar properly and doing the workouts. The other members who come to City Line are fantastic. They are super supportive and positive -- it doesn't matter if you are a rock star doing RX or struggling with the scaled workouts. Last thing I will say is that the schedule is really a big pro for me. Before joining City Line I did a bootcamp which was 1x a day 5 days a week. I had tons or situations where I couldn't get a workout in, at City Line there is no excuse there are many classes a day which is great for getting the results you are looking for!

I've been a member of the Crossfit CityLine community for just about two years now. Being a former collegiate athlete, challenging myself physically and mentally is become ingrained in me throughout my playing career. In an effort to stay fit in my post-playing days, I have joined many different training facilities and gyms in the past, finding varying results. In each instance, the onus on putting together the right program and coaching lying squarely on me.

After reading about Crossfit, I looked into three different gyms and began to weigh the options for both location and program. I spoke with Mat on the phone and one of his members and was instantly convinced that Crossfit CityLine was the place for me. As walked in the door on Day One, what I saw had only confirmed that I had made the absolute right call by choosing CityLine. The interaction between the coaches and members was truly impressive. After a group warm-up and stretch, each movement for the day was broken down piece by piece to ensure that everyone was moving safely and effectively. During the day's workout, everyone in the class was pushing each other hard and offering support to one and other along the way. It was a completely different environment than what I'd ever seen before.

It's a testament to Mat's great passion and belief in what he's put together at Crossfit CityLine. There is no way that such a community would have come together if not for both Mat and his tremendous coaching staff. In my travels, I have visited other crossfit gyms and been underwhelmed with almost every experience. Crossfit City Line is a unique place filled with good people, amazing coaches and tons of support.

I joined CrossFit City Line in August and it has absolutely, positively changed my life! In the past few months, I have seen tremendous results because of the high quality coaching, constantly varied workouts, nutritional counseling, and welcoming community. Honestly, I've never been happier or healthier. Joining CrossFit City Line is the single best thing I have ever done for myself!

Everyone at CrossFit City Line is welcoming, kind, and enthusiastic. All of the coaches are helpful and demand excellence from you. Their attention to form, detail, and technique is truly impressive, and even when classes are large they're able to provide individualized instructions and scaling. For example, I did personal training with Cassi during September and have more than doubled the amount of weight I can back squat. I feel like I hit a PR (personal record) every time I go to the gym. They've helped me set challenging goals and clear, manageable action steps to achieve those goals.

Also, my start date coincided with the fall Nutrition Challenge, which was based on the Whole 30 plan (really strict Paleo diet). Mat, the amazing owner and head coach, divided up all the interested people into teams led by the Crossfit coaches. For the 45 day challenge, we got personalized nutrition counseling and accrued points for eating healthy, working out, and taking fish oil. Cassi, my incredible coach, even organized a team dinner exchange, like a cookie swap but with delicious Paleo dinners. The results were unbelievable: in 45 days, I lost 12.5 inches! An inch from my shoulders, 3.5 inches from my waist, and more. I also beat my benchmark workout by 2.5 minutes on our post-test. Even better? I've kept going and am still seeing results!

You should definitely check out CrossFit City Line!
