I've been going to JBF since 2021 (4+ years) and can't this gym recommend enough! When I first started, I was very intimidated by powerlifting (lifting in general) and from the first day felt very welcomed and engaged. I started out with semi-private because I was very insecure that I did not know what I was doing. That quickly melted away and I now enjoy the small group training classes. Jessie and the other trainers are super patient, knowledgeable, and adjust workouts to what needs/limitations you may have. They encourage you realize your own potential - whether it's nudging you to try adding more weight to he bar, tailoring a program to your goals, or teaching you correct form so you can feel empowered to do more.

That is outstanding to me about JBF is the community Jessie and the other trainers have built at this gym. Everyone has different goals (become stronger, train to compete, get general strength training in, etc.) and they've all been respected and supported. It's rare to have a gym/community where you can feel safe, supported, and have such good laughs in every class. I look forward to each class knowing that I will be surrounded by good people, good vibes, and be satisfyingly sore the next day.

I went to JBurdie fitness because it's at the end of my street. I was about 60 pounds overweight and felt it was close enough to my house to be effective. I spoke to Jesse about starting classes. She frequently made rude comments and was downright disrespectful during the meeting. She asked personal questions and got me to open up to her about my past wich I did reluctantly. I also made her aware that she says some mean things. She replied "I know you can take it that's why I said those things" I won't go into details for times sake. She was concerned during our first session that I was going to "take over" her class and I assured her I would be respectful and follow all her rules. She told me to come in the next day for a free class. I had a busy day I was out with my dogs in the heat all day and was running errands since 8am. When I got there at 7pm we did the course and she routinely had personal conversations in front of everyone and I felt like she put in minimum effort. After the session she said she would send me info for the next classes and I went on my way. I texted her the next day for information on the next class and I got text messages accusing me of being under the influence. She said she was "pretty sure" I was under the influence. Instead of training me and doing the course she runs, she decided that it was a good time to practice her addiction counseling background. I was not only insulted, but I was hurt and felt like I was betrayed. She asked me about my past and I answered truthfully not expecting it to be used against me. She could have asked me and I would have told her that I wasn't. She made an assumption and judged me accordingly. Her priorities clearly lay outside the boundaries of fitness and extend into social services. Don't answer her questions and don't let her fool you into believing she is your "friend". If I was not ok mentally her rude comments very well could have led me to relapse and I told her that. I just wanted to be a part of something positive and I got my feelings crushed and was ostracized by a person pretending to be a friend. If you think your better than other people that's the place for you. If you need a counselor she can handle that too. Just don't expect her to pay attention to the class she's teaching because she's more concerned with what you do on your free time.

This is a great gym if you are looking for community, humor, and well planned and executed training. I regularly attend the small group training sessions, which is a perfect mix of independently performing the exercise while also receiving guidance from the coaches and connecting with others who go to the gym.

I also love that I don’t need to use my brain and can just follow a plan each time I’m there. All the coaches are friendly and knowledgeable. I was intimidated by the barbells at first but JBF made it really easy to start using them. It’s nice to have a gym with such a wide range of people who attend, and especially seeing other women who lift and lift so heavy. I was always put off by the idea of power lifting because it felt inaccessible before joining JBF. I’d never thought I could do things like deadlifts or squats before but here I am hitting PRs 🥳

I've been going to JBurdie Fitness for several years now. It's a really body-positive, queer-friendly space. Before starting classes at JBF, I had never touched a barbell, and had not exercised regularly for 30 years: I started as a complete beginner to powerlifting, and now I've competed several times! So it's really beginner-friendly, though I know a ton of people who came in as proficient powerlifters already! JBF is a great place to discover a new hobby, to get comfortable with working out regularly, to level up your lifting, and to get stronger than you thought was possible.

So happy I found JBF. I’m new to lifting, and thinking about “programming” or joining a community felt daunting - but JBF made it the most fun and seamless transition possible. Jessie is an excellent coach: super knowledgeable on progression and technique, and also great at the seemingly simple but actually difficult task of motivating you to push. The community is also so welcoming and supportive, led by Jessie’s example. Lifting is more fun when you do it with fun people!

If you’re looking for a gym to start/get back into lifting, or meet like minded people, OR to just lift heavy, this is the place to be. JBF has bumper plates, platforms, accessory machines, open gyms, group training, private training and the cherry on top being proper coaching. The staff are knowledgeable, approachable, and collaborative. Really happy I found this gym!

Working with Jesse is a delight -- I have competed in powerlifting before, and had really been missing it, but was struggling to find a trainer that I gelled with. I'm so grateful to have been introduced to JBF and Jessie! Jessie is not only exceptionally knowledgeable but also a joy to work with. She has built a supportive, fun, and focused community that truly motivates you to show up and give your best. Gyms can often feel intimidating, especially powerlifting-focused ones, but JBF is incredibly welcoming and inclusive. With Jessie’s coaching, I’m lifting way heavier than I ever imagined. The progress I’ve made, along with the environment at JBF, has kept me consistently engaged—something I’ve never experienced in any other fitness program. The other coaches, Matthew and Emily, are equally fantastic—they bring their own expertise and positive energy to every session. I always leave the gym with improved form, a solid workout, and a great mood. If you’re looking to get seriously strong, lift heavy, and have a lot of fun doing it, JBF is the perfect fit for you.

Since 2020, I’ve been looking for a gym/trainer that works for my schedule, pushes me, and incentives me to be consistent. After a long search and many tries, I’ve finally found what I’ve been looking for in JBF. Jessie’s packages provide a ton of value and flexibility and the culture she’s curated is one that makes you genuinely bummed rather than guilty when you miss a gym day. Join this gym if you wanna both feel and get strong and make new friends along the way.

I joined JBurdie Fitness after struggling to establish an exercise routine after COVID. This gym has been the perfect place to learn to love fitness again. The coaching staff is soooo wonderful, they help you steadily progress without ever feeling like you’re weaker than the rest of the group or at risk of injuring yourself. Whether you’re a seasoned power lifter or have never lifted a barbell before, Jessie will make you feel like an athlete from day one.

I've been going to JBurdie Fitness for almost six months now and it was the best choice I ever made! I didn't know much about lifting, but now I'm a convert. Here's why:

-Jessie is an amazing, encouraging coach who truly believes in you.
-I attend small group classes here and the community is truly so nice and welcoming. This atmosphere is low pressure, but everyone wants to do their best! It's a great combination.
-I never loved to work out, but I actually look forward to going to the gym. Lifting is FUN!
-I'm so much stronger (physically AND mentally) now!

I highly recommend checking out JBF for personal training or small group classes!

Jessie is the best! Before coming to JBF, I wasn't able consistently work out for more than 3 months at a time. Since joining JBF, I’ve been able to create a routine schedule, get a hell of a lot stronger, and get to know the JBF community. If you’re sick of going to a normal gym and want a more tailored, intimate, and welcoming gym environment, look no further than JBF.

I was looking for a place to try out weightlifting, which I had only previously done as part of HIIT/bootcamp-style workouts, and saw that this was very close to me. When I looked at pictures, I saw that it was an even mix of women and men which also appealed to me since I was a bit intimidated by the weightlifting world. Now I go three days a week because Jessie is such a supportive and fun coach and the community there is so fantastic. I never thought I would fall in love with power lifting the way I have, and it mostly has to do with the community that Jessie has created at JBurdie.

I joined JBurdie Fitness as a beginner, having never done any barbell lifting before. My goal was to get stronger, both mentally and physically by developing proper technique and a steady routine for weight lifting. I didn't really know what to expect when I began, but what I found was a welcoming and warm community of great people who support each other in getting stronger together. Jessie Burdick has been a truly incredible coach. I couldn't have dreamt up a more encouraging, flexible or funny person to lead me on this journey. It's been worth every penny and I can genuinely say that going to the gym has gone from something dreaded to some of the best hours of my week. Thanks so much, JBF!

I've been working out with JBurdie Fitness on zoom since March 2020-which was great, but in 2021 I started going to small group training and it has been AWESOME. Her coaching style is laid back, informative, and fun. I love that I don't have to worry about what I'm wearing, or how I'm feeling- she just encourages everyone to show up as their authentic self, and it's too bad more gyms aren't like that. The group atmosphere and workout is just as good for my mental health as it is for my physical health. When I'm traveling, I feel confident going into any gym and doing a workout on a bench or squat rack thanks to JBurdie, and she'll even send you workouts while you're away! I truly can't say enough great things about this gym, you just have to try it to see :)

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." That's the approach JBurdie Fitness brings to strength training.

I scheduled a couple one-on-one sessions with Jessie last summer because I heard that strength training is a good way to reduce the risk of severe injury. Right away, I felt like I made a great decision. She showed me proper lifting technique for squats, bench press, and deadlifts, as well as dumbbell lifts (aka "accessories") that target specific parts of the body. Not only that, but she also showed me how to adjust squat and combo racks, use deadlift jacks, and taught me some basic gym etiquette. In doing all this, Jessie demystified the lifting process and set me up for success at other gyms for independent strength training. Plus she's just incredibly fun to work with and be around.

There are a lot of great things about JBurdie Fitness (the small group sessions and open gym opportunities are also awesome), but building confidence in my abilities is number one with a bullet. Can't recommend going here enough if you want to start lifting.

Jessie is an awesome coach - knowledgable, empathetic, encouraging. I started coming to JBF because I wanted to learn some barbell basics, and I have stuck with her programming for months now! Jessie is a wonderful personal trainer. She works hard to develop personal relationships with her clients which in turn allows for a more tailored program. I have not had a single easy session since I started a few months ago. She keeps pushing my limits to the next level with each session, beyond what I thought possible. I am very comfortable with the pace and I have already seen tremendous results. It’s great to not have to design my own workouts. Lifting has never been this easy! Highly recommended!

I've known Jessica since 2008 when we first met in college, but didn't
recently reconnect till about 3 years ago because I was looking for how to improve my form for deadlights and squats. I did about a year of meeting in person every week and I went from basically hating deadlifts to loving them thanks to Jessica's help! I now do a monthly program through her and it's the best investment I have made, since it makes me not have to come up with my whole workouts by myself. Jess is not your average personal trainer. She truly connects with her clients. It is not about just doing something that makes you sweat and collapse on the floor. She forms relationships with her clients and gets to know them on a deeper level. People don’t just keep coming for the strength training, they continue to make fitness a part of their life because of the relationship they form with Jess. Life is about the relationships we forge and experiences we share. This makes fitness a lot more fun. Plus she always has candy and will even drink a beer with you.
