Wow. This was my second visit to Kripalu (first time back after 10+ years) and it was transformative. First time around I chose the R&R retreat -- a la carte programs, yoga, meals, and grounds, and while that was good it lacked connection for me. Both visits were solo, and for the second visit 2 weeks ago chose the Outdoor Experience program with Tracy and Katie. We met on the first night to talk about the weekend and get to know on another, had two guided experiences the next day and one on the last day. Each was different, and the experience was profound. We experiences forest bathing (shin rin yoku), walked and hiked, were in conversation and in silence, learned about the nature that surrounded us, reflected with space for meditative movement, and had fun. It was an incredible mix of learning, restorative practice, and renewal. I didn't want to leave! The food was fantastic, and yoga classes were expert led. The evening wind down yoga was particularly impactful and almost emotional in the frenetic pace of life outside Kripalu. I can't wait to go back!

This was my 1st visit to Kripalu Center.

Kripalu centre is a place where different practioners are invited to conduct healing / spiritual sessions like Yoga, Meditation and many other practices included aids towards healing.

I had good time here. Kripalu is located at a very beautiful place surrounded by nature. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. Buffet food is so good.

Kripalu Centre is named after Swami Kripalu from India. It's his legacy based on what I read on the wall. The title Swami is not an ordinary title in the world of spirituality with Indian context.

Constructive feedback-

If anyone goes to India where spirituality is practiced, Non - vegetarian is a STRICT NO!

Considering this place is a legacy of Swami Kripalu, Non - veg food should never served in context to Indian spirituality.

Moreso, non-veg food DOES NOT aid in cleansing. Satvic food is needed to calm the mind.

I have observed that any person who are advanced practitioners would not intake non-veg. Non-veg is also seen as violence/ cruelty towards living creatures. How can then they serve non-veg?

If this place was an institute for Yoga or other mindful practices, then it's a different context.
However since place is a legacy of spiritual Guru / Yoga guru, non-veg food should NOT BE SERVED!

Serving non-veg is against the Code.

Truly learned a lot when I was a part of the Kripalu School of Mindful Outdoor Leadership! Great instructors, friendly staff, delicious food, comfortable accommodations and plenty to do even while you're not in training. Great place for a little rest & relaxation (they actually have retreats specific to this). Gorgeous location and many different options for activities & retreats, check their website. I know I will be back at another time to continue learning!

Just went for a day trip R & R visit. I've been going to Kripalu for years and sadly my experience wasn't nearly as good as previous visits. The food and programs are still wonderful. The gentle yoga in particular is fantastic and the instructor was amazing - she lead us through breath work with a nice balance of the physical and spiritual. The one piece that was off this time was the mood of the other guests. No one smiles or says hello and it felt heavy and tense. I went into the reading room and as I was finding a seat, people just stared at me like I was an intruder. The front desk reception employees were also not their usual warm selves. It normally feels like walking into a hug with the kindness and friendliness of the staff, but that was missing this time.

Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health is an absolute disgrace and a far cry from the serene, enlightened haven they claim to be. This place is run by a bunch of amateurs and yes-men who are more interested in maintaining their facade than living up to their so-called values. Hypocrisy runs rampant here—they preach mindfulness, compassion, and holistic well-being but don’t practice a shred of it when it comes to their own employees, past or present.

The leadership is utterly incompetent, and their treatment of staff is appalling. They will never take care of their employees, whether current or prior. If you’re a former employee, expect Kripalu to do everything in their power to make you disappear. They’ll stonewall you, ignore your needs, and provide zero support with unemployment resources or any form of assistance. It’s as if they want to erase you for daring to have been part of their organization.

This place is a sham, cloaking itself in spirituality while operating with the ethics of a cutthroat corporation. Save your money and your sanity—avoid Kripalu at all costs. There are far better places to seek wellness that actually walk the talk. There has never been a genuine attempt to resolve Facts!

Kripalu is a nice place with a great view. We had a relaxing time, and the three daily meals were good. It’s a high-quality buffet with a nice variety of choices. You can decide which activities you want to join throughout the day, as there’s a full schedule available. Some sessions are interesting and can really help shift your mindset, while others are less engaging. For me, the gentle yoga class was quite boring and very crowded — totally different from my usual practice.

That said, it’s a nice place to receive kind and thoughtful guidance. However, it seems more suited for people who are going through a difficult time or seeking emotional healing, as the atmosphere feels a bit heavy — very different from a typical yoga retreat.

went to Kripalu yesterday for a facial at the Healing Arts department, and it was such a beautiful experience! The aesthetician was incredibly helpful and offered a truly relaxing and rejuvenating treatment — I left feeling so good, happy, and completely satisfied. The grounds are absolutely breathtaking, and the autumn breeze made sitting outside to watch the sunset pure bliss. A perfect experience from start to finish. Highly recommend!

I sadly share the views that their customer service has gone downhill. I have been going to Kripalu for 20 years. I called to book and get some information about healing arts I was told- I don’t know. I can transfer you. Couldn’t find my reservation which I made on the website. Ok. Moved on to a program question. Was told I don’t know. Then tried to book and ask about a couple of options. Started talked all over me. Laughed at me. Put himself on mute while I clearly calmly and respectfully tried to ask a a question. Then he would cut me off again. It was really quite startling, especially as I am a long time Kripalu guest and have never encountered anything like this behavior. I have a call in to try and resolve it so hopefully it gets addressed!

My 5-day trip was life altering. I learned yoga at a beginner pace, every meal was delicious, the shop was a treasure trove, the bed was cozy, the room was cool and airy, the grounds were expansive and beautiful and all the staff were kind. I can't wait to return.

My time at Kripalu was a gift. I felt welcomed by the folks who greeted me upon arrival. The quality of the teaching (big shout-out to teacher Pilin Anice) is extraordinary. I expanded my practice, my breath awareness, my ability to stay with poses that felt hard, and my faith that by practicing yoga and meditation, I am better equipped to show up fully with family, friends, and my community. There are many extra classes, and I had to pace myself to not overdo it, but especially loved the Yoga Dance class with Jurian. The grounds are extraordinary, including hiking trails and a gorgeous lake for swimming. The food is off-the-charts delicious, the only problem was choosing which fabulous meal I'd enjoy as there are so many selections. The support staff takes wonderful care of the grounds and facilities. One small note: I initially chose a room with twin beds and a shared bath and found it more austere and simple than I would have preferred. However, by upgrading to a queen bed with shared bath, I felt more comfortable. (Of course, many folks are happy in the twin rooms; that was just my own preference.) It is wonderful to be with a large community of people with a shared passion for yoga and meditation, and how it can contribute to bettering our world. After taking Kripalu online classes for several months, this was my first time on the campus. I look forward to returning, and am thinking how much I'd like to bring my stepdaughters along with me. It was a joy to be there, and I am carrying the experience into my life at home.

The yoga classes and hiking were great. The food was disappointing been several times before this time food was so bland and unappealing. The biggest problem was that the room was incredibly hot although the fitness room and other common areas have fans and ac the rooms don’t. I paid for a place to store my belongings and slept in common areas.

People signing up for the YTT because Kripalu's marketing says it'll solve all your problems; PLEASE READ THIS! Do not angry text family and friends if traumatic memories and powerful emotions get triggered by a large amount of yoga and meditation. Please be careful. Mood monitor, take care of yourself and if you don't feel like yourself; it's not necessarily your route to enlightenment; it could cause some serious mental health episodes.... I almost lost everything.

More than a decade ago, I did a Yoga teacher training. It was way too much for my young adult brain to handle and I had a full blown manic episode immediately following the training. I think the center could have done more to warn of psychiatric contraindications of 8 hours of yoga/meditation a day in the woods for 30 or so days. I was hospitalized 4 times after the training. They did warn us to go get help if we had "fantastical visions" and that folks go off their meds when all the yoga makes them feel better and to not do that. What they didn't warn was that kundalini syndrome can develop and induce mania and/or psychosis. I think more warnings and more mental health screenings should occur.

I wanted to give Kripalu five stars, but the registration and front desk team were so disappointing. I had a question about registering for the mushroom hunting event. I called four days before arrival, no one picked up. I left a voicemail to please call me back to answer a question on the registration process before I registered for the event. No one ever called me back. When I arrived they unapologetically told me the event was full. It wasn't full when I called, and my friends registered for it a couple of days before. So if they were diligent enough to call me back at any point I would have been able to register. They were unmoved by this. I found out after the event that they were taking walk-ins for that event on the spot. How crummy is that? The friendliness of the check-in staff was hit or miss from thereon out.

The door to my dorm in 459 wouldn't shut properly. The cleaning staff left my door ajar twice, all my belongings exposed.

All this considered, I had to deduct two stars.

Otherwise I had an amazing time. The class and workshops were transformative. The space was clean and inviting. The food was amazing. There was a great variety of activities. The instructors were kind and knowledgeable. I left with a better sense of self.

You will have an amazing time, just be fully prepared for trouble with your registration.

Always love the time spent at Kripalu. I was surprised by the state of the grounds in front of the main building. The grounds have always been meticulously maintained. But now hedges haven't been trimmed and are overgrown. I do have a helpful suggestion. The rooms would benefit from the addition of hooks to hang things.

I found Kripalu to be just okay overall, and I’m not sure it’s worth the cost—especially when it comes to the services. I tried three different “metaphysical” ones and left feeling underwhelmed. While I’ve heard good things about the massages, I can’t personally speak to those. The hikes aren’t really hikes—they’re more like gentle nature walks, seemingly designed for an older crowd. As for the food, it took me a while to figure out combinations that worked for me. Some of the offerings felt odd (like strawberry chicken), and the soups were consistently lukewarm or even chilled. That said, the location is lovely and convenient—close to many major cities on the East Coast.

Let's talk about Kripalu - the OG wellness retreat that managed to evolve from its 90s guru-gone-wrong drama into something genuinely valuable (talk about a glow-up! ‍).
For decades, I've been hitting this spot for both serious soul-searching and occasional "help-I-need-to-remember-how-to-breathe" weekends. The trifecta that keeps me coming back:

Food that makes you forget you're eating healthy
Prices that won't send you straight back into stress mode
Programming that ranges from "what even is that?" to "exactly what I needed"

Real talk: My sister and I snagged a weekend R&R retreat for under $500 - we're talking two nights, all meals included, and enough yoga to make your Fabletics proud. In today's "pay $200 for a sound bath" wellness economy, that's practically theft.

BUT (and this is a warrior-pose-sized but), here's where they need to level up: The wellness space isn't just about green juice and sanskrit mantras through a white lens. Kripalu has the platform and reputation to be real trailblazers in diversifying the healing arts. Instead of just borrowing from various cultures, how about amplifying more voices of color in the teaching roster?

Bottom line: Come for the mountain views, stay for the self-discovery, but let's collectively nudge them toward a more inclusive future. Because enlightenment looks better in all colors.

P.S. The fact that you can reset your entire life here for less than the cost of a designer yoga mat? chef's kiss (mwah)

I am just returning from a weekend retreat, which I attended with two of my closest friends.

This is our second visit, and we are C already planning more. We participated in a Somatic Breathing and Sound Healing program with Jess Frey and Jon Orsini, and it was just what I needed to help me bring more wellness into my life.

The food is great, with options for everyone. The gender expansive dorm was comfortable, and the Sun Lounge is just perfect for reading or quiet reflection.

Healing Arts are top notch. I loved my 50 minute footwork session with Peggy, and would do it again tomorrow if I could!

I visited Kripalu for the first time this past weekend and attended a retreat hosted by Reggie Hubbard and Jess Frey called Sonic Bloom. It was a refreshing return to nature, communication and connection with others and with self. The program sessions were filled with a blend of talking, listening, and being nourished with sound, movement, and stillness. In a crazy busy world with a lot to say - it was so beneficial for my spirit. The place is beautiful, the teachers I took class from were great, the food was nourishing and the grandmother tree is such a beauty!! Will def plan a return. Thank you for providing this space to so many.

I’ve wanted to go to this place for a long time, but the pandemic forced me to put it off until now. I have reached out to them several times because their online booking process is not working. They will not answer the phone or respond to emails. Kripalu now has all the red flags of a floundering business. Very unprofessional. It just reaffirms that my money will be better spent elsewhere. I’ll be choosing the path of least resistance and booking with a different wellness center in the Berkshires.

So many things I love about Kripalu, the classes, workshops, grounds, food. The things I don’t love; cleanliness; the “new” women’s locker room had mold all around the tops of the shampoo and conditioner in the showers, felt like that was so gross/weird, as it’s not hard to replace products/dispensers. It is also much smaller with no mirrors or anywhere to get ready, and smelled badly of sewage. A lot of pillows/seating areas in common rooms such as the meditation rooms had stains all over them. Please Kripalu, replace or clean sweat stained pillow's; gross. I also generally love all the practitioners. However, it rubbed me the wrong way having a Sound Bath practitioner claim that she has had people with MS come off their meds… I just feel this a really irresponsible statement to make.

I have been coming to Kripalu since the early 1990's and have seen it go through many phases. Although I'm a yoga practitioner and teacher, I was happy to see it expand to include other modalities, like Qigong which is what I practice and teach now. I have trained in yoga dance modalities there, and assisted in many workshops, like Journey Dance with Toni Bergins and Mindfulnes with Tara Brach.
I consider Kripalu to be a sanctuary. I am also happy to see it become more diverse in its population and offer scholarships. The food is wonderful, the surroundings beautiful. My only complaint is I wish they would revise their website--it has become difficult to navigate if I want to find a certain workshop with a certain presenter.
A shoutout to the kind staff in the Kripalu store--especially for Nancy who went out of her way to help me. And the staff at the Front desk for their patience in dealing with a bit of grumpiness at my arrival which soon dissipated during R & R workshops and Yoga ( Lena and Jurian). An amazing stress-relieving yoga dance session with Antoinette and then Toni helped, too!

I love everything about Kripalu. I don't think there are enough words to describe the experiences I have had. I participated in the Essential Kripalu Retreat and a 3 day Silent Retreat, both were life changing experiences.
The food is incredible, so many options, so much variety.
The grounds are beautiful, hiking, sitting on the grass and looking for the lake and mountains, walking to the lake, so many options to be outside and enjoy. So much to do, yoga, lectures, hiking, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, archery, meditation.
Many different room accommodations to choose from, the annex is awesome, if you want a cheaper options bunk rooms are clean (just bring ear plugs and an eye mask).

This experience is best for locals...while presenters are generally solid, Kripalu management arbitrarily cancels presentations on short notice without reason which is difficult if you've made vacation/retreat and travel arrangements from out of town. Beware: while the food is very good, there are not proteins served at every meal if you have to watch your carbs or scramble for limited peanut butter--again, if you're local it's easier to supplement by going off campus. Generally people working onsite are pretty competent, e.g. food/cleanliness, but management seems in another world promoting nonsensical rules: no e-readers in dining areas but books/magazines are ok? Rigorous COVID tests for teacher trainees but not guests coming and going all the time? Etc.

I just returned from a weekend at the Kripalu Center where I did a Restorative Yoga and Sound Healing program. The program itself was amazing however I was rather disappointed with the accomodation and food. I keep getting ads on Facebook saying this was rated as one of the top yoga retreats in North America so perhaps my expectations were on the high side, however for the price my room was beyond basic. White walls, no colour whatsoever, no sink or mirror, a double bed, a night table, a small lamp and a chair. No air conditioning but a square fan. No towels. I knew there were shared bathroom facilities but I would have expected at least a sink in the room, and maybe a picture or something to break up the starkness of the room
The food was okay, lots of selection but cafeteria style meals.
I guess people go for the programs and property but I think a little thought could go into providing nicer accomodation as it isn't inexpensive.
It also would have been helpful to have a bit more explanation of how the cafeteria was laid out as there were different stations with very little signage

very unprofessional business ,, they canceled a workshop 10 days prior to the event without mentioning any reason although i asked . After emailing , texting and calling them without success t, i still don't know what happened . Bad service , I wasted money ( non refundable flights, hotels and buses to get there ) and time ( extremely complicated to get there ) . I won't never book there again .
Update: After their reply below, which is just blablabla, they still never mentioned to me the reason why the workshop was canceled although I asked several time . A client that lost a substantial amount of money should a least be told the exact reason WHY this had happened . MONEY DOESN'T GROW in TREE and you need to provide the reason why the workshop was canceled. Apologies are not enough.

Buyer beware: Unfair and non-transparent cancellation and credit policy. I had a credit for almost $800 for a workshop that I could not attend that was set to expire during the pandemic. I spoke to management at the time and was told due to the special circumstances of the pandemic and not being able to travel, my credit would be extended and to call back when I was ready to book. When I called in to book in 2023, I was told my credit had expired and the extension was not noted with my name/account. Additionally, if there was a new expiration date on my credit, it was not communicated to me, otherwise, I would have booked sooner. I both called and emailed guest services no less than 10 times to no avail or response. Im not even asking for a refund, but just to be able to use the money I already spent with Kripalu. For being so wellness oriented, this does not seem like an equitable practice. This is unfortunate because I love visiting Kripalu and probably would have been several times by now as a happy returning customer.

I had signed up for two events in 2020, and at the time they called to cancel, the man on the phone asked if I could afford to let them hold my money, so that the business can stay afloat during the pandemic. I said yes. And eventually I called back in and used some of my balance for a virtual workshop. I called again recently, and they told me that my “credits” had expired. At no point in my interactions with them had anyone said
that the money I allowed them to keep would expire. I’m really disappointed. They haven’t responded to my emails either. If they ever give you the option of credits or a refund, definitely take the refund or they will keep your money.

Unfortunately, I will never get to experience it in person because they have alienated me as a customer.

I had a great experience at Kripalu as an R&R guest for two days: from Monday 5/13 afternoon to Wednesday 5/15 noon. Thank you so much Kripalu team for creating this wonderful experience for people like me.

Room: I stayed in a Classic room with private bathroom. Room is simple and comfy. Don’t expect it to be luxurious resort, it’s not, but it’s clean and comfy. I like to open the window and feel the air.

Food: Dinning hall can be busy right after a class. The main buffet station is mostly vegetarian/meat items, with a few salad/soup options. Vegan food is in a separate section in the corner. I wish it was made more clearly. The vegan food options usually have two kinds of rice, two kinds of proteins (lentil, tempeh, tofu, etc.) and a few hot veggies and soups. It’s delicious, flavorful and unique. I wish I could learn some of the recipes. Food mostly is on the bland side compared to regular restaurants, but it’s healthy and natural, and there’s always seasonings on the table. There’s a silent dinning room which I used a lot. I think whoever came up with the idea of the silent dining room deserves a gold medal.

Yoga classes: as someone who has been practicing yoga with Youtube videos at home for many yers, I was definitely nervous about in-person classes. I took the gentle yoga on my first day, thinking I should ease into it. It was indeed gentle. The instructor Tracy is professional, funny and sweet, and I immediately loved the environment of the Main Hall. I love doing yoga with a full room of people, sharing the special moment. 90 minutes felt short! There are usually a gentle yoga and a moderate yoga class going at the same time. I took the moderate yoga with Lena on the 2nd day, it will give you some exercise! The yoga dance class was super fun and therapeutic, and I got emotional and cried during the class.

Other classes: my favorite class is the posture class taught by Kari. It’s scientific, and answers a lot of questions I had (and I think other people had too) in yoga posing. She used easy-to-understand terms, demonstrated herself, asked us to do different things in the class to implement her methods, and it all just made sense. The breath work class taught by Jon is transformative and imformative. The chair yoga taught by Lakshmi is educational, relaxing and fun. The RISE program sampling class is inspiring. All teachers are super professional, nice, patient, and resourceful.

The hike: I registered for the guided hiking on my third day. It was raining (drizzling), our guide Susan brought ponchos for us, which is very thoughtful. Kripalu is located among tons of beautiful trails, the one we went on was to the lake. We focused on our sensations, and meditated a few times along the way. The first half of the hiking is silence. I love the smell of fresh leaves/flowers, the sound of the rain falling on the leaves/lake, and the soft ground.

General environment: I like that there’s no push for guests to join/not join any activities, it’s completely self-paced. There are lots of indoor/outdoor shared space to sit down and enjoy the view/a book/writing. There are people chatting in the public areas, but you can also go about a whole day without talking to any human if you like.

Criticisms: when I checked in, the front desk employee gave me a wrong room (Standard). They corrected it immediately after I told them, and was apologetic, but still it seems like an avoidable mistake. The EV charging station in the back wasn’t working when I used it. The menu says there would be a vegan lasagna, but it’s actually vegetarian as it contains milk.

Overall: I came in with an open mind, and left with a few skills, a more calm self, and fun and beautiful memories. Thanks again to the Kripalu team, and also to other guests that shared the time/space with me during the past three days. They might not know it but I enjoyed being around them.

I stayed for the weekend of restorative yoga and sound healing which was a nice experience. I had made an appointment for two types of bodywork in the healing arts department, and they were pathetic. One was supposed to be a therapeutic massage, the practitioner did all kinds of hocus-pocus, slapping me, and holding my face in his hands, and just poking around and did absolutely nothing related to massage. I had absolutely no relief from my muscle tension that I was hoping to get some relief from. The next day I had a session with an acupressure practitioner, which I thought may actually help with the tension relief in my muscles, but she did nothing to relieve tension in my muscles again she just did all kinds of hocus-pocus, slapping me, laying her hands up against my body for a long time it was more like a reiki session which I like but I was not interested in at that time and It did not make an appointment for The cost for these two sessions altogether was over $300. It was an absolute rip off. I don’t know why they advertise these practitioners to be doing these practices of massage and acupressure when they don’t do anything of the sort. I honestly don’t even know what you would call these practices, hokus-pokus is what I’m calling it. 😰

I am incredibly disappointed that Kripalu has decided that they will NOT honor a reservation at the discounted rate that was booked. They had an unfortunate water main break which lead to their, understandable, need to close their doors for the extensive repair(s).
Their generic email response is to provide, as a 'gift' an online membership to something that I have zero interest in.

I requested that they have the integrity to honor my original reservation with alternate dates...(I had booked Sunday to Friday morning--so as to not take up lodging during peak workshop weekends). Their response was 'no' but I could follow a link to request a scholarship.

I used to consider Kripalu as ethical but to ask me to essentially plead some kind of poverty rather than offer alternative dates seems a sad choice for them to make. I am pretty sure that weekdays do not have a 100% occupancy. Why not do the honorable thing?
Truly not the Kripalu I would have expected. I guess i will find an alternative retreat center that is willing to honor their pricing.
I do not think that my request is unreasonable. Whoever is placing money over a long time Kripalu supporter may be jeopardizing the good works of this organization.

If I could give these people zero stars, I would. My latest fiasco was I was trying to give a gift card online through their website. Everything appeared to be going smoothly until the payment processing return the message that says it failed. So I carefully re-entered all the information thinking I had missed keyed it on the first attempt No such luck the second attempt failed.

So I attempted to call them To make sure the gift card had been processed. I called nine times and the line was busy. On the 10th try I went to voicemail which stated their business hours are Monday through Friday.. It’s Sunday, so why was the line busy nine previous tries?

In the meantime, I checked my credit card website And saw there were four pending transactions for Kripalu!

My previous experiences with the Staff left me with a feeling that talk to two different staff members and you’ll get three different stories on how things work. So I thought using their online system would be an improvement. I should have known better.

I’m torn between giving it a 2 and a 3: food was delicious, beds were comfy, classes varied - the Ayurveda yoga was great, all the rest were just so so, and the worst thing…the constant chatter! There was no silence in any of the common areas. In search of peace, I found the technology lounges to be the quietest rooms! Throughout the building, people were on their phones or had them on, so dings were going off during classes! It was more of a white women’s wellness resort, not a retreat center :(

I spent the last 5 days here taking a Mindful Masculinity class with Hawa, Jean Jacques, and Robert. I was blown away by the intense, yet gentle care that the facilitators practiced with us to work with us on our direct healing, teach us soft skills, and work with us on yoga skills. They were professional yet relatable, they paired well phenomally, and were a veritable cornucopia of knowledge and boundless wisdom. They are truly gems of Kripalu.

The food was phenomenal as well I've never been treated with as much care in my life as I was this past 5 days. This has truly been a blessing in my life and given me the energy I need to carry on and handle my responsibilities and the soft skills to not be burnt out by said responsibilities. This is a sacred and life-changing work that was done this weekend and needs to be continued!
Thanks to Kripalu for making this work accessible to BIPOC activists and a safe space to heal from this often heavy and cold world.

I was so super excited about finally coming here, but I left a night early. High points were the food -- I am not used to having so many good vegetarian options, and there were yummy GF baked goods. I also had a really good massage. The grounds are beautiful too. I ended up exploring Lenox, Stockbridge, and Great Barrington, which are all very cute towns.

But the building is somehow claustrophobic and a little creepy. The outdoor space is nice, but inside felt stuffy (and dark, especially in the dining room) and not that conducive to lounging. The front desk staff is not welcoming at all, or knowledgeable. When I checked in the staff member pointed out the schedule for the rest of the day. I asked her what "Ayurveda for Health" was and she said, "Well I don't know," like it was a really strange/out of the blue question. She said I should ask someone else and sort of waved toward the front desk. (I still don't know! And this is a hard topic to Google!)

I stayed in the Annex, in a double room, which also felt really claustrophobic. It also said on the website that those rooms have AC, but they do not. There was a sign by the door about climate control that explained.... how to open and close the window. I didn't want to hang out in the room either, and after two nights I felt desperate to just get out of there. For the money I would find a cute B&B for the next getaway.

My review is primarily for the massage service at their healing arts center.

I’ve stayed at Kripalu twice, both times for a 5-day meditation retreat with Craig Holliday. On my second stay this year I decided to treat myself and booked two master-level massage treatments during the retreat. I had the good fortune of meeting Kreston Johnson and being on his table for two hours, which now ranks in the very top of my massage experience so far in my life, and I love bodywork so I’ve experienced a good number of therapists. Kreston brings so much wisdom and care to his practice and I felt it deeply. His attention to detail added so much depth to the healing I received on my retreat. So, thank you Kreston!

Unrelated to massage services, I do want to advise guests to be careful when they are chewing on the salad in the cafeteria. Both times I’ve bit into small rocks in the arugula or spinach, and sustained minor tooth damage.

Love the vibe, love the quiet, love the food, love the classes, love the surrounding countryside. I don't love the drive to get here, but that's a small price to pay.
I've stayed in the annex as well as the main building and I prefer
the luxuries that are offered in the annex, specifically the rooms with private baths.
Last few times I was there, they weren't serving coffee in the cafeteria - which really SUCKED - but I think they may have changed this policy. This didn't detract from my love of my experiences here however ... it just posed a challenge.

There were plenty of class options for mind, body and spirit. I really enjoyed the digital detox and that most others were respectful and did the same. The yoga classes were wonderful and the teachers were great at making sure that everyone felt comfortable doing only what felt good. I treated myself to an R & R Retreat for Mother's Day weekend. I arrived on Friday at 2p and my room was not ready. The gentleman that checked me in was very nice and did his best to assure me that my room was being prepared. Him and another representative encouraged me to walk around and directed me to explore. After a 4 hour drive, i just wanted to settle in and lay down. An hour and a half later my room was ready. To say the least i was irritated. In my opinion, the food was subpar. So Friday i went to bed hungry. Saturday, breakfast was good. You really can't mess breakfast up. Lunch on Saturday was just , eh... and Saturday for dinner, i didn't even bother to go to the dining hall. I was supposed to stay for four days and leave on Tues. I woke up Sunday morning, packed my things and left before 7:30a. I stayed in the Annex. My private room was perfect for one person. Just know there is no AC or TV. I paid for Introduction to Ayurveda. I went Friday night and i enjoyed the class. I did not attend Saturday's classes and i left early Sunday morning and didn't attend that class. Because i left 2 days early, i have over $1000.00 credit. So i will absolutely use it and hope for a better experience.

Kripalu used to be an extraordinary place. I'm booking now since the pandemic and haven't had my stay yet, but it's clear things have changed with respect to communication and staff. It's 'just like anywhere else"- contradictory information, some real rudeness, insufficient training on how to treat customers . They used to 'live' the Kripalu values. Someone wrote below: "Staff is incredibly rude and unhelpful. They completely ruined my visit and the reason i will never return. The website has misleading and incomplete information from what staff say. To book most activities you have to call and leave a message for someone to hopefully call you back." I have found all of that to be true before even arriving ( they havent ruined my visit but it used to be they made you look forward to it. Some still do. Some sound like children or scolding parents at the registration desk.) No question the catalog/website have incomplete that differs from what staff say. I can only hope that when I get there the new emphasis on commercial rather than spiritual values and the hiring without enough discrimination or training is not in evidence.

Feedback for Kripalu: This 1-star reviews relates to the purchasing of a gift card online. Your website says "Make Someone Happy" and "Choose the amount. They choose the experience."

When I clicked on 'Purchase Gift Card", I was directed to click on the amount, then enter the recipient's name, email address, and a message to the recipient. Instead of surprising this person with a gift card to Kripalu, the email went to me. I am 100% certain I entered the recipient's email where it asked "Enter recipient's email."

In sum, I called with what I thought was a simple request: Call the recipient, let them know they received a gift card for two R&R retreats, and ask when would they like to schedule this R&R. Kripalu doesn't offer that level of customer service. I'm disappointed, but I learned to lower my expectations. I didn't think this was too much to ask. It's May 2023, and I was told they are still recovering from staffing shortages due to COVID. I hope for them that they're able to get back on track soon.

Zero stars. We booked around COVID time and got a credit. Given we had an immunocompromised individual in our group, we had to keep postponing until it was safe for them. We called to book and left a message with them. Kirpalu returned the one call and left a voice mail saying our credit expired. We’ve tried calling back and emailing multiple times for clarification but no response. We also never received anything notice (via phone, email or letter) about our credit expiring. Keep in mind we were spending A LOT of money on this place.

It is severely disappointing to learn that a requirement for their 200 hour teacher training to sleep on campus. 2800 for their tuition is steeper than most trainings I have seen, but still accessible in my case. The requirement to stay on campus is not mentioned before you apply, in the confirmation email I received a link was provided to view their housing options. The least expensive was 81 a night, most expensive would take the training price to very close $10,000. When I called to inquire if I would be able to sleep off campus and waive their meal plan, as my home was 8 minutes from this institute, they told me no. I probed a bit further as this seemed rather shocking to me, considering Kripalu’s message. But I was never given an actual reason past “it’s just how it works”. When I mentioned that the requirement to stay on campus and cost of so, changes the context of the program. It takes it from something accessible to some, accessible to very very few-I was given the same answer of it is what it is. I didn’t think that’s what Kripalu was about. While they cannot be expected to give things for free, I was shocked that they only cater to the elite. This policy keeps people from accessing your training and spreading your message. It reflects that you are only looking for one financial demographic to train there.

Not what it use to be. I have visited Kripalu several times over the past ten years and it is a shell of its former self. Staff is incredibly rude and unhelpful. They completely ruined my visit and the reason i will never return. The website has misleading and incomplete information from what staff say. To book most activities you have to call and leave a message for someone to hopefully call you back. People walk around talking on their phones, making it hard to relax and unwind from technology. During covid i took a few of their online courses which were a waste of money as they did not provide new information and spent most of the classes meditating (the course was on nutrition and food). I would strongly recommend going somewhere else and skipping Kripalu.

This center is on sacred, healing Indigenous Mohican land...
Therefore it should work on its diversity and inclusion for Yoga is for All...
As you get closer to this location, the beautiful green smell creeps into your car and your vibration starts to rise.
I have been eye-ing Kripalu for years as I continue on my Yoga Journey, but their high pricing and their lack of diversity has always been a turn off.
When it became trendy to diversify and include everyone in Yoga in 2020, you could see Kripalu making efforts for diversity and inclusion. Online you can even see some BIPOC representation in their faculty.
That said upon my visit, besides the cleaning and cafeteria staff, there were no BIPOC.
I went for an R&R as a gift from a loved one. The pricing was lowered due to the pandemic which made it accessible.
The accommodations are college corridor style, real small rooms. But they are clean and that's all I need. But if you want to charge the exuberant amount you charge usually, accommodations should reflect the pricing.
I stayed most of the time outside for the campus on sacred land is beautiful and healing.
The food is good and nutritious.
Love their silent cafeteria.
It was only three days but not ONE BIPOC teacher for any of their classes nor workshop. Some of their teachers practice ego in their offering and so I walked out of them. Others were knowledgable and authentic.
Love to see Kripalu's online diversity & inclusion.
It is too bad this is not the case in person.
Much work needs to be done here, for the sacred Indigenous land and humanity deserves it.

Why not go and decide if it's for you? Be sure to take at least one close friend and try to enjoy.

Would be wise for K to state that there is no a/c, so you know to bring a fan in the warmer months, and to enforce silence where silence is expected, and to insure classes are conducted as written.

Guests are paying a premium and should have a five-star premium experience.

But, it's Kripalu, I should have known, the Online Studio is so enjoyable and all the classes I have participated in have been excellent. There is a wide variety of classes and instructors. Went for R & R. Room was really hot and hard to sleep. Had to keep window open which goes against values there. No lamp or chair in room. Yoga class was supposed to be Intermediate but teacher put on rap/hip hop and it was Vinyasa! Yuck! People talking in Silent breakfast and meditation room. Treadmills broken. No whirlpool. Folks at front desk at night are nice but don't really have any power to fix stuff. In general, Kripalu has lost its spiritual roots in its yoga classes and pricing. Only good thing were the Technology lounges though no one enforces those rules either.

The teachers were good but the classes were far too large. I think having a class size that requires the use of a microphone really takes away from the process and calmness of yoga. Additionally, the classes were not offered frequently enough during the R&R stay in my opinion.
All of this really led it to feel like I was staying at more of a hotel that offered some yoga than a yoga retreat that offered lodging.
Also felt very commercial.

The stars: The location, the hikes, and all yoga teachers I had were amazing! The food was good (most items needed added salt), plenty, and clean dining halls. Plenty of classes to choose from and to keep busy.
The minuses:
The front staff (at least the ones I encountered) were not knowledgeable on the programs and correct info. Also not helpful when I told them about my hot water wasn’t working and other issues I had. The website booking confirmation lacked the info about my room not having a private bathroom and therefore I was charged an additional $480 for 3 nights upon arrival! I did bring it up and was told to write it on a comment letter which I did.

Bottom line I think If you are alone and looking for an intimate and more personal experience with your R and R this is not for you since this is a huge school like complex (as someone else mentioned on the reviews)
However, if you are with a friend or a group and want to take some time off and do some yoga and hikes this would be a great time. If I go again I would not stay there, I would just take a day pass to enjoy the classes.

I recently spent 4 days doing the R&R retreat. I found that if you are an experienced/serious yoga practitioner, you probably aren’t going to learn anything new about yoga practices here, doing the R&R. And if you are a dabbler in yoga, your learning may not go very deep anyway. In the “intermediate” yoga class, no adjustments were given, verbally or physically, and some people were very out of alignment. The class itself was basic asana. There aren’t many different types of yoga taught here, not enough yoga class options, or classes that touch upon other aspects of yoga in any deep way. There was a Yin class that I enjoyed and it was led well, but only very beginner/basic information was conveyed, essentially for people doing yin yoga for the first time. In an hour long Ayurveda class, really it boiled down to “drink sleepytime tea before bed and don’t look at your phone so much”. I don’t need an hour long class to get that information. The guided meditations also seemed pretty surface level, and I had a better experience meditating in their peaceful, small meditation room.

All in all you aren’t going to get very in depth instruction in any particular topic, probably unless you are taking a specific course there.

The food was definitely fine. If you don’t like the main course there are many alternative options like the sandwich bar, other stuff on the side etc. I heard lots of people complaining about the food but I found it was flavorful enough, fresh, and varied. Unfortunately there were some people staying there who seemed to loudly complain about many things and disrespect the very reasonable rules of the place.

The room was totally fine as well. I was not expecting luxury. Everything is very clean including the bathrooms and showers.

There is a “library” there which has a small selection of donated books. I really wish there was a more curated book selection. But it was a quiet place to read.

I had a very good massage there and I recommend the healing arts therapies.

For me, I didn’t learn anything new about yoga, but it was a good place to relax, turn off my phone, meditate, do a little gentle movement, go on a hike. The kayaking and the archery were very nice. In fact the archery experience involved more detailed instruction than anything else there.

It is what it is. I would probably only go back if I ever sign up for a specific program.

Such an odd experience. If you practice yoga and meditation already, you will be disappointed with the teachers. The area is beautiful, but the staff is awful. When we checking in at the desk my friend had a question about restorative yoga, the person at the desk clearly didn’t know what it was. In the meditation we were told to listen to the sounds in the room so we listened to the creaky door when it was opening and closing instead of focusing internally..so odd. The over crowded vinyasa yoga class did not have breath to movement linked and not many poses were mentioned. We were told to move “deliciously” multiple times, without name of pose or cues. Clearly overrated place for yoga and meditation, however, the healing center was great. The staff was kind and informative and I had a great acupuncture session.

This is a review of the logistics and reservations. I booked an overnight stay in the R&R program. The cost of the stay from 2pm to 2pm ( 24hrs) is $226.50. I have post concussion syndrome and can’t drive 2 hrs away. There is only one train from Boston to Pittsfield which gets in at 4:45pm. I asked Kripalu if they would kindly shift my access pass from 2pm to 5pm for the 24hrs. I explained my limited transportation options. I was told no. I was essentially asking to attend one extra class since I would be missing 2 by arriving after 5pm. terrible for minors

you can’t do anything without your parent

I’m 16 and I thought this would be nice, because I’ve been practicing yoga for 6 months. The rooms are small and cramped, it’s like being in a mental hospital. The beds are stiff and mine was squeaky, I woke up more tired than when I went to sleep and my back hurt. The food is ok, it’s healthy, but there isn’t much flavor and it’s either bland or very sweet. It cost 2000 for a 2 night stay and you don’t get a bathroom or shower in your room, you have to use communal bathrooms with showers inside. The mens bathrooms are very hard to find. The yoga isn’t very advanced we did an intermediate class and compared to the easy classes at our yoga studio this was a child class. The wifi doesn’t reach our bedrooms.

This may be a .org, but they charge an arm and a leg for sub par service

Day pass for the start of a birthday celebration. Started and ended with gentle yoga, with somatic movement and yoga dance in the middle.
Silent breakfast, talky lunch and dinner.
My feet are sore and my heart chakra’s hoppin’.

Completed KYTA Certification. 200hrs minimum. Plus restorative intensive with Sudha.
During the course, Satsang / kirtan were held. If you're lucky, you may encounter great musicians and teachers.

Food:
Both vegetarian and carnivore dishes were available at the time of visit.

Typically in an ashram environment, vegetarianism is strictly upheld, but I guess Kripalu is a huge community and there may be some with specific dietary needs.

Welcoming, soothing relaxation, yoga, healing arts, and more.
Or more active if you wish: hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing and more.
Definitely a 5 star experience!

The entirety of the experience is welcoming and acceptance. As a first timer on a Yoga retreat I will leave with what I was looking for. I have had periods of practicing yoga, and believe in the power of introspection. The weekend here will help me start a new path with fortitude.

The biggest issue I had was being approached by a cult member trying to recruit me during dinner. I didn't remember the person's name but remembered what they were there for. It was a family constellation healer group. Even though I imagine you had to pay for this "workshop", I was invited to join them and was told all about their "home" in DC. The woman interwove this information in a general conversation. But what tipped me off was "you can join us and become a healer, you know, we're like a family and you become your best self, very powerful even. You can become a great healer..." Even after I told the woman I was not interested she kept talking and insisting I join a session until I excused myself from the table with my food. I was there alone and look young, so probably a prime cult target (she started stress the group closeness and the "power" message, as I suppose it appeals to young men). It was very uncomfortable. I told the front desk about it, and the woman seemed to have a "yeah... ok..." attitude about it. Back at home, I looked this group up online, and they are definitely a cult. Please read more about Bert Hellinger and family constellations and judge for yourself if Kripalu should be supporting this! My opinion is "NO!". For this, it is one star. Kripalu should distance themselves from this practice immediately.

Staying at Kripalu will let all your worries melt away. It offers a plethora of yoga classes, delicious healthy meals and beautiful manicured grounds. The rooms are a little small and chances are you will be sharing accommodation but you won’t want to spend anytime in your room anyways! Great little gift shop too!

Have stayed at and participated in a handful of programs at Kripalu over the years. Including Mother/daughter retreat and Claude Stein’s singing program. Both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. Have also done a simple R and R weekend away with friends. Was lovely and fun filled. You really can make the experience your own.
Although adding on-site accommodation is expensive it is definitely more practical and adds to the experience. They do offer different set ups as far as co habitation and private rooming choices.
The food on site is varied and healthy. Accommodating to all tastes and limitations.

One of the worst and most expensive experiences of my life... It was a Bessel Van Der Kolk workshop and it was cerebral, disfunctional and 80 people full. It was a workshop about TRAUMA. How they got away with having so many people is a testament to the greed that is both the facilitator but most likely Kripalu as a business- NOT a healing environment. It cost a fortune and left me feeling helpless and invalidated, as I went to the manager who sat looking concerned but quickly went into business mode and offered nothing constructive or apologetic. The book "The Body Keeps The Score" is a revelation but Van Der Kolk is not. I had naturally expected yoga at a yoga retreat... but what we got was talk. Lectures on a book that I assumed everyone had already read. I would like Kripalu's CEO to wake up to the fact that her center is becoming a money machine and that she ought to change the name to Krip-CashMoney. This would be more honest. The rooms cost a fortune. No yogic community should settle for this greed but I'm well aware that yoga has become a weighted Precious Zone for a certain kind of people who have lost sight of the spiritual and essential meaning of YOGA. Wake up indeed. You are ruining yoga for the rest of us who actually want to feel our feelings and move through the world with love... not precious pretty pants and ego driven cost prohibitive poses. God Help you and Shiva too.
