About the Club

MidStrong is a healthspan coaching platform that makes it a helluva lot easier for people in midlife to put food, fitness, and function first. Designed to combat health and training challenges in our 40s and 50s, the Midstrong team focuses on optimizing and maximizing fully functional cognitive and physical health through online coaching and a local in-person gym in Worcester County, MA. Since 2017, MidStrong has grown a kickass community of peers all over the country who want (and get!) more from their minds, meals, and muscles—every single day.

Friendly and encouraging environment to push yourself to reach your fitness goals. I love the small group training classes and the coaches are phenomenal. I benefited greatly from Julie's nutrition coaching. By following Julie's recommended daily nutrition goals, which mainly involved increasing my protein intake, I was able to lose body fat, gain muscle, and feel great overall.

I am that person who doesn't like gym settings and believed I could get it done on my own at home... walk a little more, swim, play tennis, pickleball, etc. I've joined many gyms over the years, always with great expectations, and then barely went. I'm proud to say I've been at MidStrong for more than a year now and have found THE place that finally has me going in week, after week, after week. It's not a typical gym. The personal attention from our amazing trainers, in small group settings, alongside supportive members, gives me exactly what I need to keep going back for more. I'm now consistent and SO much stronger than when I started.

Midstrong is the only gym experience that has kept me working out consistently. It is similar to personal training, but with a group, which makes it so much more enjoyable. I’m finally sticking to a workout plan that challenges me, but doesn’t feel difficult to maintain. There are a range of members in their 20’s up to their 70’s. I am in my late 40’s and I know these workouts are what will allow me to be able to maintain strength, flexibility and mobility as I continue to age.

MidStrong is awesome. I signed up about 2 years ago and haven’t looked back! Though I’ve been active all my life and generally enjoy a good workout, right around my mid-40’s I was feeling super-busy with life, and noticing my normal self-motivation and energy waning. I was also observing (but ignoring) that I seemed to require more recovery time from my usual hardcore workouts, which lead to a vicious cycle of inconsistency. Juile and Paul have given me the guidance to break this sequence by structuring workouts to be balanced, safe and appropriately challenging, adding variety to keep me interested. MidStrong has been the change I desperately needed to regain energy and consistency and further my enjoyment of training both inside and out of the gym.

Love this place! The team have created a fantastic community. Unlike the traditional impersonal gym experience that I would sign up for and never go, Midstrong offers small group sessions with the personal touch. The team do a great job of tailoring workouts for those of us with old shoulder and knee injuries. My journey began almost a year ago. I had hurt my back, I was feeling run down, bloated and tired. My body was screaming “I’m burned out!”. On top of it all, I am premenopausal. Then I met Julie and Paul. Since we are several states away, we just talked on the phone. I wondered how this was going to work? They encouraged me and told me together we could turn this ol’ body around. Back and core could be strengthened, I wouldn’t have to run miles and miles to lose weight. I downloaded their App and began working with Julie. We focused on nutrition, cutting down on sugar. Started eating more veggies, fruit, protein, lots of water. The workouts were challenging, but doable. I started running short distances for the first time in my life. I began seeing and feeling a change a few weeks later. Bloating in my stomach went down. Clothes were fitting better. Night sweats and hot flashes were not as severe. Lost 25 lbs, better sleep, more energy and strength. Friends and family have started asking what I’m doing because the change is visible.
The work will take time, your body may complain in the beginning, planning meals is a must, but it is all worth it. MidStrong has made me a stronger woman not only physically but mentally as well. I REALIZED YOU CAN TURN YOUR BODY AROUND, ITS NEVER TOO LATE, AND ITS OK TO PUT YOU FIRST 👌 In putting you first, you can be the best you for your family and friends. Sometimes you got to start with the outside part of you, then the changes begin inside of you too!! Highly recommend 🙌

Paul took the time to get to know my goals and to learn about what I wanted to accomplish with my training and made an awesome plan for me. Been a member here for several years, and am very happy I found it. Excellent program for middle + agers (I’m close to 70 now), as we need to stay active and keep our core strength and balance. They focus on this, adjusting workouts if needed for individual issues. Trainers are great, fellow members are very friendly and welcoming, and there are many classes available.

As one of the "elders" in the program (and someone who doesn't love to exercise, but know I need to!), I've been coming to MidStrong for almost 7 years and have stayed motivated and entertained throughout. Paul and Julie were extraordinarily kind during the Covid shutdown, offering a range of classes and caring deeply about how we all were doing. They modify and adapt throughout the small group workouts and keep a close eye on form. In addition, they stay close to the latest information on physiology and exercise and weave that knowledge into the design for each class...part of what keeps it interesting. As mentioned by another reviewer, it feels more like a family than a gym.

If you want a small gym with personal accountability, Midstrong is for you. As trainers both Paul and Julie lead by example. Julie is passionate about nutrition, and offers real world advice to help achieve your goals. Paul is a fitness nut and gets into the science and evidence behind fitness. He's a lot of fun to work out with and helps customize each work-out to make sure that each individual is not exacerbating injuries while at the same time achieving their fitness goals. Additionally, both coaches share personal and inspiring wellness content that have helped to keep me motivated. The gym is spotless and I have found that I like that there are no mirrors. I joined Midstrong in February 2020. I was motivated to go three mornings a week before work, because my new job was demanding and I knew I would be too tired after work. Paul and Julie are so positive and inspiring, I have learned a lot and met some really nice fellow gym members. I’ve recently lost at least 5 pounds (I’ve also been using Noom for about 6 weeks to keep better track of what I eat) and I know I am stronger than before.

I've been working out at Midstrong for a little over a year. Prior to joining, I hadn't been exercising regularly for several years. I used to be the type of person who would never skip a workout, but at the time I was having the opposite problem. Since joining, I have been going consistently (aside from when they had to close due to Covid). Julie and Paul hold me and other members accountable-they don't want you to pay for your membership and not show up. The encouragement and support to stick with it is key! The workouts are challenging and can be scaled up or down depending on your fitness level and goals. We have fun, get a good workout every time, and Julie and Paul are wonderful. I highly recommend!

MidStrong has been a god-send during COVID. Paul customizes the app-based workouts based on your goals and current situation. The app is very easy to use--with videos of each workout and a written description if needed. The workouts are very good in developing the entire body. And texting in the app means questions are answered quickly. And one can quickly rate each workout, which Paul then uses in developing the next month's plan. Add to that the Face Time calls with Paul, and one has a very tailored workout program with much variety for the fraction of the cost of a traditional gym membership + trainer.. Even after COVID, i won't rejoin a gym-- this program is so good. And if you need it, Jule offers nutritional coaching as well. I can't say how much I have enjoyed this program, and feel stronger and healthier because of it.

I’ve experienced many different forms of personal training over the years. As a business owner with a chaotic schedule, it is often difficult to schedule training and stick to a training regimen. Midstrong makes it easy to commit to four workouts per week. The Midstrong program with Paul's guidance is exactly what I needed. With my business travel and kid's schedules, gym memberships never worked because I couldn't make the time to consistently get there. I had some exercise equipment at home but never felt like the exercises I was doing were actually making a difference in my fitness. Paul worked with me to identify my goals and customize a workout program that aligned with my schedule and the equipment I had at home. I joined MidStrong in November and have been thankful for it since. I travel for work and work with Paul through his online App, Paul checks in at least twice a week to see how I'm progressing and alters my workout to the equipment available to me at the hotel. When in town I am able to come in and workout with a class. If you travel for work and still want to be able to workout 3-4 times a week, I suggest you contact Paul or Julie.

I work out with Paul two times a week, and I feel stronger than ever at age 52. Paul focuses on functional fitness, with the goal being to accomplish easily all of the tasks I need to do throughout my normal life. But I also have the personal goal of building the stamina to last a full-day of sight-seeing when I travel. Now, I no longer get fatigued when visiting museums; and hiking up mountains and climbing over rocks is a breeze! Paul customizes his workouts to suit my needs and abilities, and he is not interested in applying workout expectations that are more appropriate for a twenty year-old. That being said, I recently pulled off 150 push-ups during a workout! Okay, they were not all in a row, but I can't remember being able to do as many when I was young.
