Absolute scam of a business. They make it nearly impossible to cancel a membership properly. Instead of honoring a cancellation, they’ll just cancel your payment method and keep billing you without ever notifying you. I cancelled my membership, but they kept billing me anyway. Instead of charging the card they had on file or letting me know there was an issue, they let the balance pile up and then sent it to collections. The amount they claimed I owed was way higher than the actual cost, and when I confronted them they couldn’t even give me a straight answer on what I supposedly owed. Completely unprofessional and dishonest way to treat customers.

I would avoid joining this gym. I joined and had a billing issue, but I’m not getting help from their staff. They gave me inconsistent explanations as to what was going on, and even when I sent them receipts proving their mistake they still would not help me. They then stopped answering me. I even went to the Milford location, and asked a staff member to please reach out to their customer service team to see if they could get someone to communicate with me, and that was days ago and I still haven’t heard anything. They will take your money, overcharge you, then not communicate with you. They do not care about their members. Half the reason I’m leaving this review is in hopes someone will see it and answer me. I’ve never left a negative google review before but I feel like I have no choice.

I had a one-year contract with this gym. Before that, I tried to cancel it twice due to health problems and was unable to do so. I tried by phone, email, and in person, but nothing was done. My auto-renewal was disabled, and on the date the contract expired, they automatically renewed it without my permission and charged my card. I'm trying to negotiate but to no avail. Terrible staff. Once my membership was supposed over, I didn’t left money to pay it in the day. They charged the double of the price . This is a robbery

Warning to all pondering a membership with NRG. They are not with the times and still maintain a very archaic contract . Most gyms now have a 30 day notice to quit no questions asked or if so, digging deeper to find out why it’s not working for the client and maybe work it out. The Commitment is 12 months and very difficult to cancel, no response from owners or whoever is in charge. I went once and couldn’t not get my schedule to line up with the class schedule and then moved jobs and no longer minutes away and have been paying for something I can’t use. My customer experience here is poor with the facility likely because they hear this complaint at the desk often. Being told I signed an agreement and it’s irrelevant if I actually use it puts a sour taste for the whole thing.

It’s great for people who want to focus on working out. No people who are not working out.

Great Atmosphere, especially when I don’t want to workout, I see everyone else working and pushing themselves which encourages me to work hard too.

When I was just beginning, I didn’t know a lot thing, had bad form, but the people in the gym saw that and respectfully and very politely helped me improve.

I also really like the security feature, only people with the membership and get in which makes it safe, also it open 24 hours a day.

Meaning I can go workout whenever without worrying about my safety.

I would recommend to everyone that is new and wants a gym with great machines, features and great atmosphere to join.

Absolutely horrible gym and I thought Answer Is Fitness was bad when cancelling memberships. My daughter has literally called, emailed, and gone in over the last year to cancel her membership for nothing other than she cannot afford it anymore. I have even called for her pretending to be her and she is still here a year later getting maintenance fees for a membership she has cancelled several times. Do not get a membership for ANY reason otherwise you will be stuck getting charged for years!

Received a call from Jennifer basically laughing at me for asking questions and when I requested to speak to the owner she told me he wouldn’t be reaching out. Dodged my questions. Kept laughing when I reiterated my questions and how unprofessional she was being. Told me I never emailed billing about certain things and continuously tried to degrade me. I love the friends I have made at this gym but not allowing members to pause memberships due to medical issues is absolutely wild to me. And I worked at this gym prior to it becoming NRG. If we ever spoke to someone the way Jennifer spoke to me, we’d lose our jobs instantly. Completely inappropriate and unprofessional.

I sent an Email to the NRG LAB in september 24 in 2024. Asking to cancel my membership, after a few weeks I went physically into the gym to ask them to cancel it, One of the people from the front desk told me that my Email went to junk but they would look into it. December i call them again asking to cancel my membership, And nothing. It’s January already and my membership that i asked to cancel months ago, is still not cancelled and they don’t want to refund my money that i have paid since I asked them to cancel, which is the total of $243. And apparently I haven’t told them 30 Days before I wanted to cancel.

Equipment is alright, something seems to be constantly broken though. Part that is absolutely terrible is the billing. My friends and I have all had nothing but terrible experiences when we go to college and try to cancel our memberships. They send you for a loop, you call to cancel, they say you have to come in to cancel, you go in to cancel, they tell you none of the billing is done there and you have to email to cancel, then they drag their feet over email so you are paying for multiple more months than you want to, then they say you can only cancel TWO MONTHS in advance. Do not join this gym unless you want to be paying for it for months more than you actually go to it.

Since I’ve been a member here, I’ve introduced 3 friends to this gym. The first two friends filled out a free one day pass upon entering for their first visits. I’ve also paid for several friends to have day passes which were $20 each. However, my third friend did not receive this same courtesy upon his first visit here. So I paid $30 for him to have access for an hour to workout with me instead of arguing with the desk. The desk explained that the price went up from $20 to $30 and the free pass is now appointment based only. I’m unhappy with these changes that I was unaware of, how the situation was handled, and the overpriced day pass.

UPDATE - Per the responder's recommendation below, I have tried getting in touch with this vendor via several calls and emails for the past two weeks. After giving my information multiple times to multiple people to try and get a manager to respond, I have not heard anything. To clarify my issue, isn't that I have to send in a written form of cancellation. Clearly, I was well over the 30 day mark when I tried to cancel my membership. My frustration is the customer experience; telling someone one thing and then having another thing happen is frustrating, and because of that, I was charged for a whole year of gym membership I won't be able to use because I'm moving out of state. Having no flexibility, taking no accountability, and shifting the blame to me for not following the "easy steps" is not how you run a business (even a small one). If the person at the front desk had reminded me that I needed to send in an email, I would have gladly done that. Because I was given the wrong information and told the issue was all set, this happened. Not because I forgot to cancel my membership or because I cannot write an email. The amount of time I've spent on this review alone is double the effort that it would have taken me to send the stupid cancellation email! On top of that, telling me that I'm being unreasonable when I'm sharing what my experience has been is out of line. I gave a fair account of what has happened so far and what my experience has been. This whole interaction shows the lack of integrity that this business has, especially given that I'm still technically a paying "customer" and they refuse to get back to me.

First, let's start with the good: the gym is well stocked and has a lot of equipment. That's about it. The gym itself is very OK - the inside smells kind of damp and like there is a low grade mold problem. My biggest issue with this gym is the customer experience - specifically around billing. The cancellation policy is unnecessarily rigid. My membership was set to auto-renew in August 2024. I spoke with someone at the front desk in APRIL to cancel my membership. They clicked a few things on their screen - told me they turned off auto-renew and said I was all set, I never got a confirmation email or anything. Then in August, when my membership auto-renewed, I called to say I had already canceled and spoke to someone at the front desk in person. They said they didn't have any proof that I canceled my membership, and that they did not offer refunds at all (for any reason). They did offer to change the membership if I found someone to "buy out" my contract. Looking through the other reviews, it's clear that people have had similar issues, and it makes me wonder if this kind of "error" happens frequently to make the gym more money. Honestly, you're better off going to Planet Fitness or another smaller local gym where you'll either get a self service way to cancel online or can speak to the owner directly about canceling.

I have called multiple times over the last 5 months as well as sent emails telling them to cancel my membership since I cannot get in. Each time they pass the buck and play the "it's not my fault" game. I now have a bill from collections after being told multiple times they will cancel my membership and not to worry. I do not have access to the gym and cannot scan in. I was told that Anna, the manager, was in today and that my message would be passed along and it would be fixed quickly. I called again today, a day later and was told she was not in but they will call me back within the hour. It has been 5 hours now. Called again and now no one is picking up.

Completely unprofessional, untrustworthy and border line criminal. DO NOT, under any circumstances, join this gym, you will not be able to cancel, have access or have anything resembling customer service.

While the equipment is nice, up to date, and the staff is friendly, the pricing at this gym is absolutely absurd. They advertise "$35/month", but then you have to pay a sign up fee of 99$ + a yearly $60 fee for "maintenance". Why are we paying for the owner's maintenance? This is a cost that you accept when you decide to open a gym. For a few dollars more (including the fees) I joined a gym down the street which offers a multi story gym, bike room, free classes, a pool, a sauna, basketball courts, and many other amenities. I would love to come workout here as it's closer, but for some reason the owner thinks he's running a middle class Equinox instead of a slightly better Planet Fitness, and I refuse to give business to someone that greedy.

****UPDATE. This "maintenance fee" has been increased from $60 -> $75

I used to love this place but it’s become a terrible environment. I moved to Florida a couple years ago but I kept my membership here for when I come back every couple months. They make up new rules every time I go. Everyone I know stopped going here because they were constantly getting violations for who knows what. Never know what you’re gonna walk into. You’re better off going to planet fitness down the street honestly. Wouldn’t be surprised if this place installed one of those “lunk alarm” things lol.

Last time I went I had my brother film a 5 second video for me (at a very slow time), I was told that you’re not allowed to film there. I mentioned how it says on the “rules” sign that you can film PR’s. I was told that it does not say that. I took a photo if you want to read for yourself + decide what it says. I thought I knew how to read at 25 years old but maybe not.
I also don’t blame the person who actually said something to me. She was just doing her job. Just told me that “Ann said this and Ann said that.” Ann wasn’t even there, just creeping on the cameras and making up rules for a gym she is never at (no one I asked knows who she is). Sooo that’s a little strange.

My entire family has been going here for 5+ years but we’re currently on a search for a new gym in the area.
