The owner Peter Welch has a 5-0 record as a professional fighter & opened his South Boston Boxing center & Gym in 2007. Peter Welch's Gym won the Best of Boston award in 2013 for best gym and has Trained world renowned athletes and Fighters. The gym has Classes For Kids, Women, teens and Adult men. Come to train in Boxing or to Just get in fighter Shape. We offer Cardio conditioning classes, bootcamps & Strength classes for all ages & Fitness Levels.

Due to a concussion I sustained while sparring at Peter Welch's Gym, I was no longer able to continue training and informed the staff accordingly. Several months later, I unexpectedly received an email stating that I would be sent to collections if I did not pay a $700 cancellation fee. This was followed by ongoing, aggressive communication.

I recently took the Intro to Fighter Conditioning class, and as a complete beginner to boxing, it was the perfect introduction. Alana kicked off the session by teaching us the fundamental boxing stances, punches, and simple combinations. Her clear instructions made it easy to understand the basics and ease into the rhythm of the workout.
The second part of the class combined high-energy cardio with boxing drills using gloves and bags. It was definitely intense, but also incredibly fun and motivating. One of the things I appreciated most was that you could go at your own paceβthere was no pressure to keep up with others, and taking breaks when needed was totally fine.
If youβre new to boxing and curious about trying it out, Iβd highly recommend this class. Itβs a great way to learn the basics in a supportive environment while getting a solid workout.

I did a fighter technique class for $17 because it was my first class and it was so much fun! I got a great workout, the coach was phenomenal with tips and tricks, and felt damn sore the next day!! Would recommend for beginners but honestly depends how you treat the class and could be good for anyone. Very friendly and welcoming staff, 100% coming back!

I took a class with Sean afterward, and wow, it was intense but so good. He kept the energy high and really pushed us, but it never felt overwhelming. The whole vibe of the gym is super positive and motivating.

I recently took a boxing technique class, and I couldn't be more impressed with the experience. From start to finish, the class was both challenging and rewarding.
The instructor was knowledgeable, clear, and passionate about teaching proper form. They took the time to explain the fundamentals, such as stance, footwork, and punch mechanics, in a way that was easy to understand for beginners and those with some prior experience. I appreciated how they walked around the room to give personalized feedback, ensuring everyoneβs technique was on track. The class was well-organized, starting with a warm-up that focused on mobility and light cardio, followed by detailed drills to build muscle memory. We practiced jabs as well as defensive moves like slips and blocks. There was a good balance between shadowboxing, pad work, and partner drills, which helped reinforce the techniques we were learning.
The gym had a great atmosphereβwelcoming, motivating, and friendly. Everyone, from the instructor to the other participants, was supportive and encouraging. It really helped me feel comfortable, especially as someone newer to boxing.

I just moved to South Boston from Quincy and was ecstatic to find a boxing gym very close to my new spot. I have been boxing at TMX in Quincy and have fallen in love in with it so, after attending my first class last night, I will definitely be returning as a regular. I used to attend Rumble classes when I was in PA but since moving to Boston they are pretty far and not as popular here. So I looked for a boxing gym and found this on Yelp. They have reduced rate for your 1st class so I gave it a try.
It actually felt and looked like a boxing gym not just a fitness room with a bunch bags. They have a proper boxing ring and offer many types of boxing class depending on what you want to focus on and FREE gloves included with any of your class .
I chose the conditioning class and before the class starts you have a 20mn rundown with the coach who walks you thru all the boxing movements and vocab.
The class was intense but felt good.
The schedule is flexible for peeps who are either morning or evening person so itβs really great for working professionals or consultants :)

The class is challenging but everything is completely doable for an entry level student. Although the class is organized into rounds, youβre completely working at your own pace. I havenβt boxed much, but felt very welcomed and comfortable. The class was a great work out but also informative on HOW to box/move your body. I always feel accomplished when I feel like Iβve fully worked out - thatβs hard to achieve by myself at a gym, but by the time the class was done - I could tell I had pushed myself in the best way. There was also jump roping and an abdominal work out too!
There is parking in the back too which is so helpful since I come from Medford!

Tried PWG for the first time with my friend who goes almost daily! The intro class before it was super helpful and the workout was challenging but definately worth it!! Staff was super helpful and Sean the instructor was awesome and so motivating throughout the whole class! Would definately recomend even for first time boxers and will definately be back!

Peter Welch's Gym was awesome! I went to the fighter conditioning class and it was such a great, challenging and engaging workout. It was my first time and I was a little intimidated walking in alone and not knowing a ton about boxing -- but everyone who works there is super nice and took the time to show me everything in the gym and explain the class in detail before it began. The conditioning class is great too because you can go at your own pace and hit the bag or do burpees at your own pace. The class also FLEW by! Highly recommend

If I could give this 10 stars, I would! My husband and I have been members for about 3 years and this has been the best gym for us! We've done Fighter Conditioning & Strength and have taken classes with all the instructors. All the instructors are amazing and each has their own style/personality which always makes the class fun. We've been able to really reach our fitness goals with the classes alone, I can actually do a pushup now!, and the classes have been the reason my husband has gotten a 100% on his military PT test. This Gym is exactly what I have been looking for. The combination of classes and an actual gym is hard to find these days and there is a value to that flexibility. Some days I don't feel like doing a class and prefer to do strictly weights or stretching by myself. The conditioning of the classes is second to none and there is a great social element to them. I highly recommend this gym to anybody regardless of there fitness level or interest level in boxing.

It has been 2 and a half years since I've done a High-intensity cardio class. Actually since I have consistently worked out. I got into the gym and everyone made me feel welcomed. Front desk, other gym goers as well as the trainers Alana and Sean. They all made sure I was well situated and it was easy to strike up conversation.
The class, it was great! I felt energized and ready to go. It kicked my butt though. The best part about it - there wasn't any pressure from anyone to do more than what I could do. The class was fun and exciting, and I got to take out some aggression on the heavy bag!
Would definitely recommend this to beginners and advanced people. Great time, great environment and great staff!
