I’m a full-time traveler so am comparing this to other PFs that I have gone to. This particular gym is not maintained well. There are obviously problems with the roof and there are several buckets catching water. The walls are suffering the consequences of water damage. This gym is also not cleaned on a regular basis; the showers, equipment, floors and windows are pretty disgusting. The staff are very friendly however the owner/manager is not working on updating or maintaining anything nor is any of the staff required to clean at this facility

I like the staff. They are always helpful and courteous. The equipment is well maintained, and there is a full array of machines and weightlifting equipment. The cable machine is a little close to the wall making it difficult for some exercises. The facility itself is reasonably clean. Most people put away the equipment and wipe it down after use. The biggest problem is with children and teenagers that use the gym. They never wipe down the equipment, never put anything away, misuse and abuse the equipment, and never have any accountability from anyone. Teenagers sit on the front of the treadmills when you are trying to work out.

I love it here I am a very overweight man and was very scared to start my weight lose journey. but since the 1st day the people that work there in the mornings have always made me feel awesome and that is 1 of the main reason I keep coming back and the fact that I have lose 20lbs so thank you so much

Their actions at this location tell me that they care more about taking your money then providing good customer service.

With the needed drs note, I went to PF and put my membership on a “freeze” due to pending surgery.

PF, incorrectly, continued to pull the membership fee from my bank account during the freeze.

I called, spoke to a manager, and let her know the dates/amounts of the fees incorrectly processed. The manager agreed I should not have been billed, said she would work with the billing company to reverse the charges and would call me back to confirm.

I never got a call back from that manager.

Called again and spoke to another manager, there was no record of my previous call. She asked me for all the info again, I said I would need to call back as I did not expect to need to provide that level of detail again.

Called back twice, both times there was no answer and I got a recording that their vm was full.

So on a 98 degree day, still recovering from surgery, I had to drive to PF to provide that manger with the same info I provided the first manager when I called.

First question from the manager after I gave her the info - are you sure you’re not paying for someone else’s membership?

Wow - blaming your customer before any review of my account occurred?

Manager went to review my account, she came back agreeing I should not have been billed and my bank account would be credited in 7-10 business days.

The gym is always clean and kept organized. The machines are great and they provide extra supplies like yoga balls, resistant bands, etc which aren’t as commonly used but are essential for some people. They have plenty of mats for people who like mat work. They have lots and lots of weights. The showers are kept clean and the curtains are big enough that privacy is kept. The place overall is fantastic and has such an amazing atmosphere. I always feel welcomed. The staff also greet you kindly and say goodbye as you leave. I’ve been going here regularly for a couple months and I just love it!

I like the black card machines. We do need a Jacuzzi and or a pool. Very clean in each time I need to know information about a machine somebody’s right there. I love the hours. The staff is professional friendly, and polite.

I absolutely love Planet Fitness in Townsend, MA! I have been going there for ~3 years now. The atmosphere is welcoming and motivating, and I've met some great people here. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any questions or concerns. A gym is a gym but what sets this one apart is that the staff goes above and beyond to make it feel welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a supportive and positive environment to achieve their fitness journey!

I always had loved this place. After a month hiatus not going, I returned and found that the 6 machines I had used since it opened had disappeared. I'd like to know what the thinking was on that. I can't use the macho machines because I am 85 and the "yellow" painted machines were ideal for me according to my VA provider and now I am at a loss as where to proceed.
I'm still waiting for some logical answer.

Updating this review to reflect my more recent experience. Very clean facility and the man who works the desk in the early morning is always dry friendly and welcoming. I still feel like if changes to hours apply they need to be posting that somewhere so customers know as I had an incident my first week trying to come here where they weren’t open during the morning due to bee machines being delivered. But the hours are correct and things have gone back to normal with is excellent.

Love that it's close by and they keep it pretty clean. Equipment was recently upgraded and they added rowing machines, a seated elliptical, and a couple spin bikes.
The downside with Planet Fitness is that there are no real racks for squatting or benching so we're limited to 3 smith machines for all of these exercises.

Traveling for work here. This planet fitness is below average. As far as equipment goes, there’s only two adjustable cable machines that are usually used by someone doing pec flys. Additionally there is a lack of fixed machines like a bicep curls. The dumbbells do go up to 75lbs so that’s a plus.

If you care about cleanliness, the men’s bathroom was an absolute mess, urinals out of order, paper towels and water EVERYWHERE floors counters etc

There are two things that will make or break a gym. The first is the facilities and the second is the staff. In my opinion the facilities are excellent they are well maintained and the place is clean. And the staff is extremely helpful and want you to feel comfortable there.

The staff is excellent and equipment is clean the issue is 4000 members at probably the smallest PF I have ever been to. You always need to wait for equipment in free weight area. I feel due to people lifting so close and on top of each other it's a unsafe condition

(Owners response does NOT apply to my review, moved to 1 star) My disappointment is not about staff, they are good, but the upkeep of the Machines, are horrible. Some have been broken for over 6 months. The TVs don’t work. The music doesn’t work. They blame it on the RONA but in my opinion its poor management and ownership of this location. They could up their game here, I would hope they’d poor some money into fixing the equipment soon, the use of the equipment is why people show up.

Great place to work out that is close to my home. Friendly staff is a plus. I understand they plan on getting new equipment. Can you get a sit down elliptical machine? They have one at another PF I go to in NH. I can't use the stand up ones as my feet hurt after just a few minutes.

Was in Townsend Planet Fitness 18 miles into a 41 mile bicycle ride , for a quickie 1 hour workout. Was very please with how clean it was....nice set up. Just a tad smaller than what I am used to with Waltham Planet Fitness which is enormous...but still a very nice workout atmosphere and ample equipment !! So for those that say this isnt the place to take their working out seriously. I've debunked that !!! A+

Good experience whenever I go. I met with a trainer to help design my own program as I was completely clueless where to start. I explained my anxieties and he worked with me to make it as comfortable of an experience as possible. The employees are always polite and the facility is clean every time I go.

I understand the 6 foot rule the mask rule etc. I do not understand why the equipment is not alternated. Some of the equipment has been roped off since it’s been opened and is unavailable to use. Last week the gym was closed for a deep cleaning signs went up on Wednesday instead of the beginning of the week with a less than a days notice. I would suggest when you are going to do a deep cleaning , that notices are put up at least two days prior to the event. The front staff is awesome.

Compared to other planet fitness clubs I go to regularly of the 3 this one is closest to my house and by far the least accommodating. This manager needs to step up their game in cleanliness and functionality due to social fitnessing other gyms have the same operating procedure and it’s a fully functioning gym... this gym is small to start and your cutting out half the equipment on one side of the building your actually corralling people closer together and you don’t realize it or just don’t care. This is not a functioning facility.

The staff and manager of this Planet Fitness is excellent. The same cannot be said for the ownership of the franchise. They cannot be trusted. I highly recommend setting up a special account to pay fees of must join this gym, and only keep enough money there to cover a month at a time because given the chance they will steal money from your account.

They took advantage of Covid-19 to take $63.32 from my account without notification or authorization. I tried to cancel my membership in mid-March when the Covid-19 lockdown started. They never answered their phone. The doors were locked. I even contacted Planet Fitness Corp office by email. They at least replied. However they told me I had to contact this Franchise directly and gave the phone number these people weren't answering.

I checked my account on March, April, and May to be sure they were not charging me and they weren't. Then they reopened at some point. Did they notify me they were reopening? That they were going to charge me? No and No! They just started taking money out of my account. I have several other accounts which autopay but ALL of them, without exception, notify that Bill is coming up on the date it will be withdrawn and notify me again to thank me for the payment after withdrawing it. Presumably only Planet Fitness tries to bilk their customers for services not rendered, intentionally keeping them in the dark so they don't notice that they are paying for something they aren't using.

I will be filling a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (if they are even a member, which seems unlikely considering their practices) and Massachusetts Consumer Fraud Division.

Perhaps if they see this review they will do the right thing of their own accord.

I’ve been going to this gym for about a year. It’s clean, the staff are friendly, and it’s close. It’s a small PF , yet I never have a problem getting a bike, tread, or tower. It’s a lot for little bucks!

I joined this gym a month ago. I got the black card membership because I knew I would be using the tanning bed. The first time I went tanning I asked the lady at the front desk how to work the bed she said I don’t know we’re not trained on the beds I said you’re kidding right? Then I go into the bed and when it starts I notice a ton of bulbs were burnt out I then counted and 13 bulbs were burnt out and the tanning bed was disgusting. This facility is not open 24 hours so why aren’t the employees cleaning it at the end of the day if it’s not clean it was so dirty. After I went tanning I asked the girl at the front desk how often they change bulbs and she said every month she said they’re going to be changed tomorrow I came back a week later still 13 bulbs burned out so I left my name and number for the manager I’ve been waiting for her to call me back for almost 3 weeks now and she hasn’t they are very unprofessional there I physically went in and wrote my name and number down and told the employee to give it to her so she could call me. Why arent the employees trained on every piece of equipment in that gym it doesn’t even make any since to me especially for a gym that’s not open 24 hours that place should be spotless and it’s not it’s disgusting. I have read the reviews on this place and I’m not the only one that thinks it’s dirty I think management really need to step it up. I’m paying for a tanning bed all the bulbs should work that’s why got the black card.

How can I share anything when the manager never returns my phone calls?

I would like to rebut the last review...I think you are being too harsh. I always see the staff cleaning and never see “protein on the floor.” The staff is always friendly and responsive. The gym may be a bit on the smaller side, but I never have to wait to exercise. I have been to many gyms as an athlete and I have no complaints.

Please is typically dirty, dust on treadmills, protein mix on floors, cleaning there usually consists of someone with a swiffer duster barely trying. Peak time extremely impedes your workouts as there is limited benches and limited space near the limited amount of free weights. Smith machine pulleys are broke and make loud noises and it’s yet to be fixed. Convienent for the price, staff is the friendliest ,irritating for the size and cleanliness

A gym that discourages effort and alienates people who love to work out. A lack of free weights and pizza days says it all. Planet fitness doesnt want you to get in shape, their whole business strategy relies on you to quit. Each location is unable to support all of its members if they actually came in. I have also heard many stories on how hard it is to cancel the memberships, even after switching bank accounts. BEWARE! I myself was charged for 6 months after i cancelled and had joined the military. Besides, wouldnt you like to support local businesses instead of a corporation that is trying to muscle in on your small towns economy?
