The cleaning staff do a great job, the programming is varied, the pool is good for exercise year-round, the staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful, there is a great selection of equipment, the yoga instructors are very knowledgeable, and the hours are expansive. Being at your location today for the first time this year, I was very disappointed to find that there was no green-cone lane in the pool for public/
Not even one line was left available for open swim. Thatβs unreasonable. There should always be at least one lane designated for open swim at all times. The current setup makes no sense, and it feels unfair to members who come expecting regular access. This needs to be addressed and made a rule moving forward.

The YMCA has been in my family for YEARS. Thank everyone from the YMCA childcare staff, to the after school program staff, to the camp staff for being so considerate, kind, caring & just absolutely amazing to my children and family. As a mother I feel amazing having my kids wake up every morning & feel excited & comfortable to attend the programs the YMCA provides. I couldnβt have asked for such an amazing team from all sides. The Salem YMCA is local, so my husband and I can walk to it. They have great facilities. We get free memberships with our AARP healthcare. Itβs really wonderful! The pool is great. We love it!

The theater program has been absolutely incredible for our kids! They have been in shows for years and we are so happy with all of the staff throughout the various productions. The theater program offers interesting and exciting opportunities with fun and appropriate show choices. My kids have felt challenged and supported to achieve very high expectations. The productions are very high quality and the staff works so hard to create a safe and inclusive environment for all participants and where we as parents have felt comfortable and welcome to volunteer and take an active role in supporting our kids' passions. We are so grateful that programs like this are accessible to all families!

I find myself at the Salem Y as many as 5 or more times a week. Salem Y offers me many choices to get fit - Row, Pickleball, Core and Balance, Nutrition classes and more. The welcome desk staff are very friendly & pass on a feeling of belonging. I am looking forward to choosing some tags from the new Christmas giving tree as I appreciate and support the Salem Y's community spirit.

The great array of classes to choose from ~ both water and land. It is just terrific and the coaches/teachers/instructors of the various super balanced classes are terrific as well. I also appreciate the abundance of open lanes for general swimming time as well, as distinct from lap swimming only. I highly recommend.

Camp Harbor Quest was so great for my little one! She started off in the younger group and turned 7 in the summer so she was able to attend the next group up and did great. She loved the different activities that were offered. The program ran very smooth and great communication between the staff & parents.

Not enough privacy in the shower room. The shower curtains are too small, and don't provide enough cover. Men walk around nude, which is disgusting. I won't be renewing my membership here.

Other Y locations, like the one in Beverly, may have much better parking, but that is not an issue for me. (And if you come in the early morning, there is still plenty of parking available, and it's free until 8:00 AM.) The facility itself has much more to offer on the inside than you'd think from the outside. The pool is a little small, but I usually go for the gym equipment. The fitness room is packed with equipment to make best use of available space. The equipment is up-to-date and well-maintained, and the facility is very clean overall. There are several water stations where you can fill up your travel mug, and stay hydrated. Best of all, in the thick of summer: The AC is very effective! :)

Good gym facilities, but it is insane to me that the day care has no security measures for checking kids in or out. The Greater Beverly Y sections off the area the kids are in and requires you to scan your badge again when picking up or dropping off. At Salem Y you literally walk into the kid's space, grab a child and sign them out on a piece of paper. No one vets you or that you're signing the correct line. This is a disaster waiting to happen, copy what other YMCA locations are doing and fix this.

Iβve been using the weight room at the marblehead, salem, and Beverly YMCA for years. The Salem facility is fine overall, and most of the staff and fellow gym goers are friendly.
My main complaint is that only here does the staff harass me about lifting too much weight and making noise. I would understand if they were concerned about the equipment or safety but the only rationale Iβve heard is βit makes too much noise for the people at the poolβ. This is a gym not a library, pretty annoying if you ask me. This happens consistently if I deadlift 3 plates.
If you are serious about weight lifting I would not recommend, it can be overcrowded and equipment is often broken to top it all off too.

Really like this YMCA! The hydrofit classes are to die for (Thanks, Jackie!). The evening class times are perfect for working folk and are not overcrowded, which is a huge plus for me. Facility is always clean and I have met some of the friendliest ladies here.

Wish they would have negative stars because I would so give this place it..I canceled my membership or so I thought it was, till they tried charging me for September, I emailed Helene in August to cancel, due to having surgery, she said she added someone else in the email. Which she didnβt do to have it done. So when they tried charging me I emailed the support person, she says it was never done.. back and forth emails to both parties and got ignoredβ¦ niceβ¦ you no how people have so much time to waste trying to get membership cancelledβ¦ so watch out if you try and cancel.. their absolutely HORRIBLEβ¦ maybe they should be replaced by people who do their jobs..

My daughter has been in the Early Childhood program for 2 years. We love all of the teachers. They love and care about the children. My daughter has gained confidence and learned so many important foundational skills both academically and socially. I highly recommend this program. This place took money from me after I froze my membership. They won't refund me after charging me for a recurring membership. They said that my account was reactivated because it only freezes for 30 days. I haven't checked into their computer system to visit the gym in months. This is a non-profit organization that is stealing money from members. Unbelievable.

This facility includes a pool, gym, bb court and health and wellness center. They also have a day care and child care center. Staff are absolutely awesome and helpful. The space has been renovated and has new locker rooms in the building with new and updated workout machines. Wide variety of programs are offered for kids all throughout the year including summer camp in the summer. There is parking up front but gets filled up during busy hours fast.

My Review For Salem YMCA Early Learning Center.... Read.!!!
4 years ago i had a awesome experience at the early learning center at Salem Y the staff and teachers were amazing.... Now 2019 i have to say im VERY shocked with how the program is ran now. All new teachers with little experience and a new director with no understanding.
My almost 3 year yr old was kicked out of preschool 1 due to "unsafe behaviors" such as putting things in his mouth. Not listening to directions& having tantrums..normal 2/3year old behavior They set one meeting were they handed me 4 different incident reports which I never heard of or had knowledge of before.. I recived all 4 the same day at same time...which isnt right. They offered to put him down in the baby class ( which makes 0 sense if they are claiming hes so unsafe) i thought about it & 2 days after the meeting i agreeed to lower his level even though i didnt think that was whats best thats were the director Mary M said "oh im sorry there isnt room for him in that class but we can help you find another daycare" after they just told me he could be lowered so she told me "fine well keep him but no promises we won't call you to leave work often when he acts up" ( not fair to me and my job)so the next day i drop him off nobody says hi goodmorning or even acknowledge my child is walking in the room but other children they say hello to in the morning.. about an hour or so after i dropped him off i get 4 calls in a row back to back saying he was opening the class gate. And he can not stay the day due to " satey" but in reality they just did not want to deal with him and put in the work so he could be successful in HIS classroom. Also i had multiple days were my child has came home STARVING and all his food still in his bag and all they said was " oh well the children know when there hungry to go to their bag and get food" and apparently if the child needs a little more attention or care or help They don't provide that and let him fend for himself..So they gave me no options and i had to quit my job due to loosing child care which NONE of the workers at the YMCA helped me once we left. They did not help me as a parent and teacher reltionship to have my child succeed in his own age group after i waited 2years for a slot for my son at the Y and after a month hes kicked out. I do NOT recommed the YMCA the teachers are rude uneducated and will only do what they feel there paid for nothing more... And thats horrible teaching skills.
Children need compassion understanding help and attention. & love to succeed and the YMCA early learning center failed to provide all those.

Older YMCA location. Building is old and this makes the layout weird. But it's right in the middle of the city, which is great and super-convenient for those who live and work downtown. They are continuously updating equipment and spaces to make it the best it can be. Also has an on-site daycare.

The inside of this Y is a little disorienting with its twists and turns, but that's pretty much all of Salem, right? Outside of that and not having a hot tub, it's a pretty perfect Y. Machines and premises were great--beyond what was expected--and were well maintained. Lack of free parking sucks, but again, that appears to be all of Salem. Good hours also. Private showers.
