Our overarching philosophy is the integration of breathing, movement, strength, posture, balance, and agility to align the human body in its dynamic state and connect to our deep internal strength. We believe that to achieve your best the environment should be warm and welcoming. Our fully equipped studio in Brookline Village is bathed in natural light and has a welcoming ambience where students and instuctors have space and freedom to think, feel, and move. Our experienced trainers offer private, semi-private and small group lessons that are adapted to fit the needs of each student.

My husband and I took mat Pilates with Kathleen at SmartBody Movement for about two years, and she was absolutely wonderful. When I first started, I was dealing with chronic back pain, and her caring, personalized approach made such a difference. Pilates quickly became a huge part of my healing and helped me rebuild strength in a way that felt safe and empowering.
Kathleen was an extremely knowledgeable and compassionate instructor who understood how to adapt exercises for every body and ability. Her classes helped me build core strength, improve my posture, and move with confidence again.
During my pregnancy, Kathleen’s prenatal expertise made all the difference. I always felt safe and supported, and she helped me stay active all the way up until my due date. I truly believe the strength I maintained through her classes helped me recover faster after my C-section. It’s also been a huge help in adjusting to life as a new parent, too!
Kathleen genuinely cares about her clients and creates such a positive, supportive space to move and feel your best. I can’t recommend her and SmartBody Movement enough!

Smartbody Movement is magic for your body. I’ve taken both the mixed equipment and Gyrotonic tower classes here, and there’s truly nothing else like it. I don’t know how gyrotonic isn’t a more popular form of movement. After each class, it feels like the inside of my body has been scrubbed clean with a giant toothbrush. Things that felt creaky or off suddenly feel aligned again, whole again.
I’ve been physically active my whole life, grew up in a dance studio, yoga teacher for 10+ years, barre instructor. I find Gyrotonic is the perfect complement to strength training. If Pilates is about lateral movement, Gyrotonic is all about spirals. It reaches every nook and cranny of your body in the most fluid, revitalizing way. It’s like a full-body tune-up, or a massage from the inside out.
Kristina’s Saturday morning classes are my favorite—they set me up for the week ahead. I only wish I lived closer (and that there were more class times!), because I’d be here every day if I could. Big fan.

I have been working with Iwalani since 2017. First it was private Pilates classes,which I absolutely loved! I looked forward to coming to cozy SmartBody studio each time I had a class with her. Then Iwalani introduced me to Gyrotonic, and my life was't the same! As a mother of four, I felt that I needed support and movement that holistically guided me to recovery that I couldn't find anywhere else. Additionally, Iwalani's warm and fun personality, combined with expert knowledge of body anatomy and movement made it so easy for me to learn and understand what I was doing during the classes. I felt incredible improvements in my falling apart, postpartum body. So grateful for Iwalani's dedication to holistic wellness and her continued support even years later. Smart Body Movement is a special place. The instructors are amazing—I have been working doing Pilates and Gyrotonics at the studio for a little over a year and feel fortunate to have such expert and caring instructors. I feel respected and welcomed and my body is stronger and happier! A bright spot in my life for sure.

SmartBody is a wonderful, welcoming studio with lots of opportunities for various types of classes and individual instructions. I'd say it was unique to the Boston area, with its wide variety of offerings and well trained instructors. I enjoy the people and the atmosphere a lot.

This is truly a gem of a studio - it's bright and spacious and in a great location (Brookline Village)! All the instructors are wonderful and complement one another. They make it easy to switch between instructors or work with multiple ones. The intro pack for private lessons is the best deal in town.
The studio also has a full-time front desk manager (she's hilarious, but good!), which makes it easier to resolve any account issues or book future classes. If I had to find one complaint, I wish they offered Sunday classes.
