I've known Tim Difrancesco for almost 30 years on a personal and professional level. From both perspectives, there is no one that works harder than Tim does. He has a relentless work ethic that makes him one of the best trainers in the country in my opinion! His knowledge of personal training and exercise science is at an elite level. I've been working with Tim and his team for over a year now, primarily through remote training. After years of corporate work and long hours at a desk, I felt disconnected from my body and weaker than I wanted to be for my age. I set out with modest goals, picked up some basic equipment--free weights, a few kettlebells, and a bench--and got started.

The team helped me map out a monthly plan, beginning with foundational movements and gradually building strength across my core muscle groups. The commitment on my end was about 45 minutes to an hour, three times a week. Each month, I received a sequence of workouts tailored to the equipment I had, along with personalized video guidance through the app. I logged my workouts and added notes as needed.

Tim was consistently available for check-in calls, whether to stay motivated, adjust workouts due to travel or a minor injury (unrelated to training), or dive deeper into a specific note I'd shared. The programming evolved monthly, targeting different areas based on my short- and long-term goals. I never felt like I had less attention because my goals were more modest or I was remote.

About six months in, I started noticing meaningful changes: lifting heavy bags at Home Depot was easier, hikes that used to leave me wiped out felt manageable. A year in, I feel stronger across the board and more confident in pushing my body in day-to-day life.

What really stands out is how adaptable and encouraging Tim has been--especially when life got hectic, travel picked up, or I had to miss a workout. He kept me moving forward. Now, I've built a habit. I understand the importance of functional strength, especially as I age, and it's something I plan to keep prioritizing thanks to the foundation we've built.

I never write reviews for things but I wanted to post about my positive experience with TD Athletes Edge. I had been dealing with several nagging injuries for years and came across Tim on Instagram. The videos he posted and his philosophy really resonated with me. I am not local so online training was my only option and despite being skeptical about the effectiveness of online personal training, I decided to give it a try since nothing else was working. I’ve been online training two days a week for about 10 months and it has been nothing but great. The exercise videos are very detailed and I rarely have any issues figuring out what I am supposed to be doing. The program designed for me is always challenging but doable and can be tailored for travel. Tim is very responsive when I do have questions and I have more than enough time to discuss my progress with him during monthly phone calls. Best of all is that I’ve had noticeable improvement with my nagging injuries and my daily quality of life has improved. I feel stronger and healthier than I have in years and I am thankful that I found Tim!

I have been online training with the TD Athletes Edge team for two years, twice a week, to help control my chronic back pain.

I've worked with personal trainers, taken private pilates classes, and yoga for many years, so I consider myself to be in fairly decent shape, but I struggle with chronic back pain, due to scoliosis, and some arthritis in my spine.

I happened to see Timothy's instagram account, and was impressed by his feed, and the fact that he is a DPT.
I messaged him and we set up my video assessment. I even sent him my X-ray so he could see what I was working with.

My goal was not to lose muscle mass, mobility and balance as I aged. And first and foremost, I wanted to do whatever I could to help ease some of my back pain, without taking medication.

I look forward to my customized, bi-weekly workouts, that I access using the TRUECOACH app, and especially enjoy the unilateral exercises, as they help me work with my weaker side, in turn strengthening the muscles that protect my back.

I also love the flexibility that the program has given me when I travel. If I don't have access to a gym, I can usually do my workouts with exercise bands that I throw in my suitcase, and some small modifications.

For the first time ever, I had someone tell me, "You look good. Fit."
I feel fit. And I've had a lot fewer big episodes with my back.

I got in contact with TD Edge after a back injury and multiple sessions of PT. I wanted a second opinion and came down for an evaluation. Since I live out of state, I could not attend in person training but I have gone through 10 phases of personal training online with Tim/TD Edge. I have loved Tim's positive, upbeat, support throughout, especially through flare ups when I really needed the support to get through the challenging times. I also love the accountability piece of having someone check in on my workouts throughout the week. The start of the phase is most challenging, with starting new exercises to learn but this is eased with "how to" videos to listen to and watch repeatedly when needed. I have gained a toolbox of exercises, and stretches and learned to keep moving through flare ups! The best take away is realizing your body craves movement!

TD Athlete’s Edge assessed my current capabilities, reviewed my goals, and designed a flexible, continuously updated program responsive to those goals that I’ve been working for the past two years, about two days a week. We’ve worked through various cranky joints, a minor back injury (received outside of the gym), and busy times at work and home. We’ve worked toward a couple of annual longer cycling events and a late-summer, weekly mountain bike race series. I have been a member of almost every gym on the North Shore over the past 25 years, worked with many personal trainers, and tried every program out there. After many different friends recommending TDAE, I finally gave it a try, and I haven’t turned back!

TDAE takes the best of everything and combines it into one. The trainers are top notch- knowledgeable, conscientious, caring, and fun! The workouts are challenging, completely customized to each individuals’ needs, safe, and always changing to keep things interesting.

I have always been plagued by knee pain, and lower back pain, but when I am consistently going to TDAE these issues are almost completely resolved.

I had so much success at TDAE that I also signed up my husband and my two high-school aged kids. We all get something completely different, but exactly what each of us needs.

This summer my son was injured and unable to play any sports. His spirits were really low and he didn’t even want to leave the house. The team at TDAE put together a workout to keep him active while taking into account all of the limitations of his injury. They were so supportive and positive that my son really looked forward to coming and turned his summer around. Once he was cleared to play again he was able to get back quicker because of the work he had been doing at TDAE.

I became a member at TD when I was 3 months post-spinal fusion (my third back surgery). Both my parents, in their 70s, and my husband were already clients who were having great experiences.

The programming was safe and thoughtful as I was just able to begin lifting anything again. They didn’t let me push myself faster than was safe (even when I wanted them to!)

In the two years since, Jess has coached me to a superior level of strength and fitness than I had pre-injury. Her expertise is unmatched and she individualizes my program based on my goals. She has taught me a tremendous amount about smart programming and technique, as well as the importance of de-loading and not overtraining, all of which have also made me a better fitness coach and instructor for my own clients.

I ran a marathon last year without incorporating comprehensive strength training. I’m currently in another marathon training block. Before working with TD Athletes Edge, I was dealing with pain in my ankles. In just 4 weeks the pain in my ankles has subsided while my mileage and intensity of running has gradually increased. I came to TDAE with several physical complications including chronic back pain, neck tightness, and knee injuries from high school and college athletics. I was even told by two physicians I may need surgery on my knees. I was not sure how to proceed nor confident that any coach would be able to alleviate any of the constant pain I was in.

However, after only a couple months of steady guided exercise and programming, I could already feel a difference: less pain, more readiness to be physical active, more productivity in the office without the distraction of constant discomfort. Whenever something caused tension in my lower back or knees, my program was adjusted and those muscle groups were built up incrementally. Now I have completed nearly 100 workouts at TDAE and have never felt more holistically strong and pain free. I have much more work ahead, but this is the only place I found substantive, informed coaching that has alleviated a significant portion of my daily pain.

I can’t say enough about my experience at TD Athlete’s Edge. I was looking for a place that combined a PT aspect with strength training so I could deal with some of the chronic aches, pains and other issues I was having. I found Tim and TD athletes by accident on Instagram at a time when I was working with a physical therapist on how to move safely as an athlete with hyper mobility. It was a condition many orthopedic doctors overlook and can be completely manageable with the right training.

I injured myself during a 10k pre-COVID and had to stop working out and running due to low back and hip issues. I am also mom to a very active toddler who loves to be carried. I would wake up stiff and in pain. I tried so many things (chiro, PT, massage, yoga) with only short-term gains. I am 3 months in to my program at TD Athletes Edge and I am amazed at my progress. Since my 30’s I’ve had worsening issues with my knees and hips. I was desperately trying to maintain activities I love pain free - hiking, biking, strength work, etc., but it was becoming more difficult. I tore my meniscus during basketball season and I was reluctant about surgery since I was entering my senior year of college. I met with Tim in person and he put me through an evaluation of my knee. We agreed that rehab seemed like the better option and it was the best decision I made. He has given me an in depth personal workout that not only addressed my knee but injuries I suffered in the past such as achilles tendonitis and low back pain. He incorporated upper body and core strength to our workouts as well. We are in constant communication about how my body is reacting to the training and he is continuing to motivate me. My knee is feeling much better than before and I am jumping higher than before with no pain. I am also seeing serious improvement of strength across my body. It was definitely the right move to come here and meet with Tim. I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

So! I came to this place coming out of a couple years of physical therapy for a back injury. The injury is still with me and probably always will be. But I used to be very into fitness and lifting especially. I'd been unable/afraid to do much for the last few years, but when I started attending sessions with TD Athletes Edge I was finally able to feel like I was moving again, on my way back to my old self. I had an IT band issue that had been bothering me for a while. I met with Tim DeFrancesco and he did a thorough assessment before designing a program to help me. I just have to say WOW, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but 2 weeks following the program and my pain was gone. I was able to run my 50k pain free 8 weeks after meeting with Tim. My only regret is not reaching out sooner. They have an online program that’s easy to follow along and still maintain accountability. I took a four week remote programme (I am in the UK) with Tim during the first half of 2021. I had been having some intermittent hip and lower back pain and by week 3 it was all but gone. Tim’s customized program for me has shown great results. I wanted to get stronger in my core to help my golf game and overall fitness. I initially started working out at TD 3 years ago because I wanted to deal with some old stubborn injuries but as time went by, it has offered me so much more. TD's philosophy of slow and steady has provided a safe and effective approach to improving stamina, and increasing strengthen and balance. Tim DiFrancesco and his staff are innovative, energetic, educated and trained in their field. The facility is the cleanest gym I have ever been in. New equipment is constantly being added and updated.
Each new member is individually evaluated and provided with a program based on their personal goals and physical needs. Every month a new program is written by one of the staff. I personally work with Jess who does a great job adding new challenges and exercises.
When covid hit, and they needed to close the gym, TD didn't skip a beat by offering an at home workout option based on what equipment each client owned, checked in regularly with appointments to keep us engaged and motivated. TD truly kept me going during a very stressful and isolating time.
Even though my initial reasons for going to TD have resolved, I am committed to continuing to work out with them, whether it is remotely or in the gym. It is the best investment that I have made for myself and is worth every penny.

If you’re looking to work out the right way, get 1% better each session, and make functional, strength, and aesthetic progress then TDAE is the place to be. There are a ton of S&C programs available in the Boston area that help you get bigger, faster, and set a new personal best on bench, squat or hang clean.

At TDAE you will accomplish all that, but first they will make sure you build the foundational strength that lets your body feel 25 at age 30. I’ve been working with the team for 2 months and I feel like I’ve taken two steps back in order to take 10 steps forward.

I highly recommend Tim and Matt and the entire team at TD Edge in Salem. I first worked with them to recover from a brutal ski injury, and now, nearly two years later, I am training for various longer distance runs as well as staying generally fit and healthy.

The biggest obstacle I faced before starting at TD Edge was the lack of a useful or strategic program. The generic program I was given by my hospital physical therapist got me only so far, and then when I left that program I had no meaningful plan (not to mention I couldn’t even jump or run, let alone ski). I am a hard worker, but I had no idea how to help myself, despite thinking I can do anything I put my mind to. I underestimated the value of progressive strength training and thought that cardio and some dumbbell work would do the trick. I also faced an even more challenging obstacle: fear. I was scared to hurt myself again and I approached each exercise with trepidation. Quickly, it became clear to me that Tim and the team were re-teaching my body how to move safely, and my fear went away, never to return. Quickly, I was back on the slopes and setting my sights on bigger goals.

My favorite thing about everyone at TD is that they do exactly what they promise. You want to regain strength to ski? No problem. You want to get strong enough to pivot and cut again so you can play sports with your kids? We can do that. You want to start running races? We can get you there. There was never ever an ounce of uncertainty or doubt from anyone, which shocked me because I’d heard a lot of “Well, you’ll never be the same” from people along the way after my injury. More importantly, the coaches design really smart and progressive programs that always challenge me in new ways, and they always seem to know just how much to help and when to let me tackle an exercise on my own. I truly love this team and everyone who finds their way to TD becomes part of the gym family because we all understand how lucky we are to have found the solution to whatever was stopping us from the success we desire.
