So unbelievably thankful for Matt and Tracy. I am a USMC Vet, got injured in the service, suffered a spinal cord injury, 3 herniated discs, 2 partial meniscus tears, a bad anterior pelvic tilt, and had tendinitis in my right knee. Over 10 years, Physical Therapists, Personal Trainers, Strength and Conditioning coaches couldn’t help fix all of my mobility issues. I couldn’t perform any exercise correctly, and had a lot of aches and pains when working out. I reached out to Matt, gave him a shot at working with me, and within 1.5 months I was moving in all Olympic lifts with full range of motion. Matt and Tracy changed my life, helped me believe in myself again, help me believe in my athletics again, I’m forever grateful for them, and if anyone is on the fence about whether or not it’s a good gym to join, it’s the perfect fit. No ego lifters, they focus on form before weight, and all of the athletes there are just as supportive and encouraging as the coaches are. No judgement at all.

I can’t say enough about this gym and their approach to teaching weightlifting for both kids and adults. My husband and I came to 4 Star in 2020 as CrossFitters looking to improve our lifting skills. 5 years later, our two kids are hooked on weightlifting as their favorite sport and have consistently improved their strength and technique thanks to the fantastic coaching of Matt and Tracy. They started out as 8/9 year olds and are now 13/14. Their love for weightlifting keeps getting stronger and it has taught them so much beyond physical strength. The coaches really work 1:1 with every athlete in the building, imparting deep knowledge and the “why” behind these complex movements. I highly recommend this gym if you’re interested in weightlifting or any form of strength training.

Love the experience of learning and training here! I researched a few gyms in the area when I first moved to metro Detroit, and I’m so glad I ended up at 4 Star. The coaches are knowledgeable and the environment is welcoming and high energy for beginners and seasoned weightlifters. I joined as an intermediate lifter and have seen huge improvements in my technique, strength, and overall performance.

I have been associated in one manner or another with this gym and it's coaches for nearly 10 years. I have attended camps, clinics as well as athlete and coaching seminars. I have been a member and a coached athlete for the last 2 years. I believe the #1 factor in the success of this gym is it's attention to detail. Nothing is left to chance from the coaching to the facilities and equipment. In addition, they have built a team atmosphere among the athlete members that is second to none. Youth, senior or masters lifters, beginners or experienced, I would recommend this gym to anyone!

4 Star Strength is a premier training facility in Michigan. From the coaching staff to its members and team, if you are looking to get stronger with the Olympic Lifting system, this is where you want to go. They offer in person and remote training. My son has trained there, remotely, for more than 2 years. He is extremely glad we found 4 Star, Coach Matt, Coach Tracy, and Coach Richard. Seriously give this gym a go if you want to get stronger and belong to a great team.

As an athlete and a former coach I absolutely love training at 4 star with Matt, Tracy and Richard. Since 2017 I’ve never been coached with as much attention to detail, effective cues and genuine support as these three offer. Effective, attentive and communicative coaching are what you’ll find in the gym. I care about my training and my progression as an athlete and I know that these three genuinely care about each and every athlete in the gym just as much. It shows in their actions. If you’re looking to elevate your training, make great friends and be in an overall supportive environment 4 star is great!

I've been with 4 star for a year and a half, and I can honestly say I've received nothing but the best coaching and support. 4 Star isn’t just a place to work out; it's a place to grow mentally, technically and physically. Led by the exceptional coaching trio of Matt, Tracy, and Richard, you can push yourself to the next level. If your seeking a supportive community that genuinely cares about your journey, 4 Star is the place :)

Coach Matt is AMAZING!! I have a little bit of Crossfit background. He understands my needs well, and works flexibly with me. He and Coach Tracy are knowledgeable, experienced, and have great eyes!! She pointed out my left wrist injury by just looking at my lift!!! I love this gym and bring my friends in soon.

This gym is GREAT. Been lifting here since October of 2021 and been loving it every step of the way. I started with limited experience of the Olympic lifts and Coach Matt and Tracy made learning fun and rewarding. Everyone at the gym is friendly and so supportive. The equipment is great too!

I have been coming to 4 Star for just over a year. I have been involved in Olympic lifting for 5 years. Coming to 4 Star and working with coaches who focus on Oly lifting was a game changer. I have learned so much and made so many technical improvements working with coaches Tracy and Matt. I love the focus on moving well and not being concerned with the weight on the bar.

So I came to 4 star strength looking for a personal trainer and to get into weight lifting. I’ve been working with Tracy as personal trainer. And she was amazing, pushing you harder than you might think you could go. However not so hard that you are going to hurt yourself. If you communicate some soreness or an injury, she will find a way so you don’t have to miss out on training. I would highly recommend working with her if you are looking for a personal trainer.
The gym it self is an amazing environment, I was always nervous about going to a gym but all the athletes were welcoming and encouraging. It doesn’t feel like a big box gym.pre like hanging out with a group of friends.Matt has done an amazing job building a warm and welcoming environment for athletes of all ages looking to get in shape with a trainer or to learn how to do Olympic lifting.

Whether you’re brand new or a seasoned veteran, Matt, Tracy and their entire team will treat you like family. The coaching is top notch and on point. If there’s a better place to train the Olympic lifts, I’m not aware of it. Stop in, you’ll be glad you did.

I contacted Matt immediately after landing in Detroit, and literally within 30 minutes, he had me on a platform lifting for a drop-in. He was so great to work with, and everyone at the gym was so welcoming. The facility is top-notch and filled with athletes of all skill levels that I really enjoyed training with! Matt and Zach also gave great feedback on my lifts which I really appreciated; they’re super knowledgeable and definitely groom some high-level athletes. This place is a gem and I’m already looking forward to my next trip back to the area. Definitely check them out!

This is a review of this business in regards to an event that I attended today. The event was the First Annual "Power or Not" Meet and it was organized and ran well. They had two sessions one where you weigh in 7:00 - 8:00 AM and the other where you weigh in 8:30 - 9:30 AM. The lifting for session 1 started at 9:00 AM and it contained nine females. The lifting for session 2 started at 10:30 AM and it had seven males, and one bad-ass female. Session 2 only took about an hour and a half. I received an e-mail prior to the event that explained that this was going to be a great opportunity to cheer each other on. As a non-member of 4 Star Strength I can say without question that it was in fact that. There was plenty of support from everyone who attended, which was refreshing because I am used to that sense of community after doing CrossFit for the last five years. I met some nice and supportive folks and I am definitely looking forward to the next event that they put on. The event was a great way to understand the ins and outs of an Olympic Lifting competition.
The facility is great-lots of quality equipment, such as weights, racks, bars, and various lifting items that you would typically see in an Olympic training facility. There were also people of all ages and skill levels, so they must doing a lot of things right. It's located near Michigan Dairy, which is off of Middlebelt and I-96. Check this place out!

I had the opportunity to attend the Women's Only Olympic Weightlifting Camp over this past weekend, and I cannot say enough good things about it! The coaching was amazing, I learned so much, and the atmosphere was perfect. I have always enjoyed working out, but this took that to a whole new level. As a beginner Olympic lifter, it was great to get exposure to techniques, new drills, and work to improve my lifts over the weekend. There were lifters from all levels, abilities and ages, and 4 star did a great job of giving us ALL attention and making everyone feel welcome. I would do this camp again in a heart beat, and I will be dropping in next time I'm on the East Side.
If you are in Michigan or even close to Michigan, consider giving 4 Star a try. They work with remote athletes too!!

I am relatively inexperienced with Olympic weightlifting, but I am not new to strength sports and have worked with several different coaches over the years as my goals and interests have changed. The coaching from Matt and his team at 4 Star is top notch! If you have any interest in learning Olympic weightlifting or would like to improve your technique, you need to get in here. I was most impressed by Matt's willingness to tailor his coaching to each individual athlete, supporting a welcoming and non-intimidating atmosphere. I look forward to further refining my technique in future visits!

4Star in Livonia, Michigan is without a doubt a straight up Olympic weightlifting gym. To set the context I was travelling to Dearborn to attend a week long workshop and wanted to train while in town. After an online search of options for Olympic weightlifting sessions, I definitely lucked out and made the right choice with 4Star, Matt and the crew. The facilities are great with lots of quality bumper plates, bars, squats racks, platforms, and even jerk racks which you don’t see much. The atmosphere is extremely welcoming. The athletes and coaches are supportive and truly live the sport of Olympic weightlifting. Training here is an exceptional experience, you feel right away at home in a supportive and fun environment with knowledgeable coaching. Here they know your name; you are not just a number. Originally from Canada and with 30 years as an Olympic weightlifter and coach, I have seen many gyms all over the world and speak from experience when I say 4Star is a choice you will not regret. The sport we love is in good hands with these folks as a model that works. Awesome place!
Sincerely,
Leigh Willis

4 Star has the best Olympic lifting coaching and community in Michigan! The atmosphere is unlike any other gym in the area. The flexible nighttime hours (no class start times!) is ideal for the busy working folks such as myself. I love being able to come in whenever I want at night and know that I'm going to get hands-on attention. Not intimidating at all yet challenging and fun. A great place to work on all barbell movements.
