2025 update:
Unfortunately the quality of the gym has gone down. I used to take showers here, now I wouldn’t consider it because of cleanliness issues. When stuff breaks I don’t have much hope that it will be fixed.
2023 review:
They have a good amount of equipment and the staff are friendly. Haven't had much problem with the equipment I want being in use. 24 hours is nice to fit my schedule, as well as finding times when people aren't there (when covid was a large concern)

I used to love going to Anytime Fitness, especially the one in Saint Clair Shores, but this location is way below average yet still expensive. Many times when I walk in, the gym smells bad, and there's dust everywhere. The machines are in terrible condition—many are broken, and even the ones that work have torn padding, making workouts uncomfortable and unsafe.
There's exposed wiring where an emergency telephone should be, which is a huge safety concern. The locker area is also dirty and neglected, showing clear signs of poor maintenance. While I enjoy training with Rob, this gym overall just isn’t working.
For the price, I expect better upkeep, cleanliness, and working equipment. I’m thinking about moving to another gym because this one simply isn’t worth it. This review will be updated if things improve, but for now, I’d recommend looking elsewhere for a better gym experience.

Edit as of March, 2025:
Have to update my recommendation.
TV has been out for 6+ months. Broken equipment has not been fixed in over 3 months. Number of benches/equipment pads are worn out/through .
And signs taunting something great coming soon we're targeted for fall 2024 are still up (for nearly 6 months) and faded
Looks like someone has decided to stop maintaining this gym and it's really starting to show.
Shame because I loved it and have been a member for almost 16 years. They do have all the equipment you could need and personal bathrooms are nice, but it's just not being maintained anymore

Wouldn’t really recommend. I signed up for a membership and personal trainer plan, and did enjoy it when I had the time, but multiple events came up in my life that took away all the time I had to make it to these training sessions including moving. Because of these I wanted to cancel the membership and trainer, but I was told I’m not allowed to cancel the membership until I actually am moved, and there’s nothing that can be done about the personal trainer plan. I also have to provide details of where I moved once I do for them to cancel it. The fact that I have to move to be allowed to cancel a membership is absolute nonsense.

Dirty, dated equipment, and only 1/3 showers worked. Needless to say I won't be back and risk being late to work again since the showers don't work.

This gym is so dirty compared to the other Anytimes I've been to. Trash on the ground, broken and old equipment. If you need to work out, it's not a bad gym for hitting what you want. It's just filthy.

Jackson Rd Ann Arbor location.
January 2025 **Update 10 months in. My Trainer Rob is awesome. He knows exactly what I need to work on. He keeps me be accountable. Mitch the Manager is awesome as well. He makes sure the gyms equipment is all functioning, the gym is clean (especially the bathrooms) and is always safe . I love that it’s open 24hours and I have a fab and it’s safe during late hours. One thing that is wonderful is, the people actually clean the equipment after usage and they put mats and weights back in there spots. It really helps keep the place looking clean and keeping germs at a minimum! Great job everyone!
March 2024
My Trainer Juwan is awesome they have other awesome trainers available! The gym is clean and the environment is friendly. I feel safe in the gym at any time, you get your own key and It is locked at all times. The staff wants you to succeed with whatever your goals are and will help you figure them out. They are there to help you!
Thank you, no pizza and donuts! 😃

Echoing some of the other comments here, but this is by far the dirtiest AF in the area. Infrequently cleaned during staffed hours, and I would never feel comfortable showering here after a workout. The only real benefit to this gym is it’s typically not super busy and therefore there isn’t a long wait for equipment.

If I could give zero stars, I would have done so. This is by far the worst gym experience I have ever had, and I have been a member of several gyms over the years. I found them through an employer sponsored program through my work. my son was able to scan in with no issues for about a month, but then he was locked out. I immediately let them know and they claimed they fixed it, and we tried again and were still locked out. I informed them again and they said I had to go to Ypsilanti to get it fixed. I drive out to Ypsilanti because they do not answer the phone at that location. This went on for three weeks. We are still locked out. When I was able to speak with them, they tell me they don’t make any money from my membership through my employer sponsored program. What he doesn’t say is that the gym can opt out and not participate, but they chose to participate in this program. The complete indifference they show to loyal customers who happen to utilize a program that they voluntarily take part in is astonishing. We are now members of Planet Fitness. It’s a little further of a drive, but we can actually scan in and work out. Anytime Fitness will continue to bleed customers because of their lack of customer service and condescending attitude towards their customers.

Terrible management services. They up sold us on a personal training pack, only to never have trainers available outside of day times. They've tried to charge my debit card as an ATM withdrawal, 2 months after I contacted them and SPOKE WITH SOMEONE about cancelling my membership. They also just signed me up for text alerts without any consent to do so. Calling corporate!

Not thrilled with my experience, planning to cancel within a few days. First, the gym is crowded with random machines and an over abundance of cardio equipment, if the gym has 8 people in it then it is over crowded. It’s weird that the pictures illustrate powerlifting platforms yet there are none to be found in this location. Additionally, the equipment availability is random with seemingly no reason as to what is available, it’s just a hodge podge of get as many attachments and random accessories as possible. There’s one bench press and 3 free-weight flat benches which is laughable. The facility is not particularly clean which makes me wonder what these people are doing with your bi-annual “enhancement fee” or the passive aggressive “$25 fee for not re-racking your weights.”
I was told i would be charged monthly, at the top of the month. Turns out im being charged bi-weekly. This gym is a joke and the management is shady. Just go to planet fitness or literally any other gym in the area.

I would not recommend this location based off of the experience my wife has had. She works midnights and wanted a place to exercise while she was up in the middle of the night. The front desk is not staffed at night and being off the highway she did not feel safe. Aside from the location, the contract that was sold to her was an $18 membership. This membership then changed to an $18 every two weeks after six months of so without her knowledge. She was told that she could cancel at anytime, she could not. The Ann Arbor road gym was where she signed up and wanted to be her home gym, for some reason they changed her home gym to the Ypsilanti Anytime Fitness. I called on her behalf during business hours to speak with a manager and the regional manager only to be told that there was nothing they can do. These are too many items that did not sit right with me. I never went to the gym to justify a 1 star but these are some concerns that many gym goers may want to know before signing up.

If I could rate this place lower than 1 star, I absolutely would. Brad, the manager, is a nightmare to get a hold of. Been trying to show up during "staffed hours" to cancel my membership and no one is there to help me. I've also called many times and texted his number without being able to reach him. 9 out of 10 times your call will go to voicemail, and when he does answer, he will tell you that he doesn't come to your club anymore and in order to change any terms to your membership, you'll have to drive to wherever he is to do so.
All in all, the memberships at this branch are clearly designed to trap you in them, don't fall for this place, just find a different gym and save yourself a headache.

I would highly recommend going to another gym. Anytime Fitness will quickly rush you into signing an unbreakable year long contract without sending you a confirmation email detailing what you just signed up for. That is not the end of the world as their rate is not terrible, but once you use their "free" first time training session they will have you sign a binding contract to once a week, biweekly, or whatever you sign for a year without being able to change it. And once again they will not send you a confirmation email. Each training session is pretty expensive at $58 for 30 minutes and you must pay that weekly (or whatever you signed up for) even if you do not receive a training session. I like the trainer there, however they have their own gym at home that they do training out of and would recommend just working with them directly if you want a trainer. Unless things change with their contract policy I recommend you go to another gym that offers more amenities and does not rush you into signing year long contracts you are forced to pay (even if you cannot afford it).

There's a trainer there, no idea his name but he's an older guy with the top of his right ear pierced, that is going to get someone seriously injured someday.
Saw him, with 2 people straight , encouraging them to lift way over what they should be attempting. He loaded a bar for squats up to 315, the lifter got down 6 inches and couldn't get it back up AND THE TRAINER TOLD HIM TO TRY IT AGAIN. The lifter instantly failed and the trainer, trying to spot him, couldn't even get it up - they luckily had safety arms setup. Can't believe this guy is at a gym giving advice to novice lifters.

I love this gym. The employees are very friendly and welcoming. They also encourage and assist anyone with any fitness questions no charge. The membership cost is a little more than average but it is well worth it. The gym never is busy enough to where you will have to wait for machines or equipment to start your work out. DON'T JOIN THIS GYM. If you're thinking about joining this gym read the low star comments here first. I wish I had. I was a college student in the area when I joined this gym at the beginning of my school year because the school gyms were closed. Upon joining, I was told that I had to sign up for a 12 month membership even though I made it clear I would be moving out of the area when I graduated in the spring, but I was assured I would be able to cancel my contract anyway for a stated fee at the end of year since I would be moving more than 15 miles away. They seemed like reasonable and nice people at first. Turns out that was all a lie to get me to sign up. It's now been over 3 months since I first tried to cancel my contract. I've sent everything the staff said they needed and was told I'm "good to go" multiple times only to find that I'm still being charged the next month and given some vague excuse of how I messed it up. I've tried contacting the owner to get the situation resolved but at this point it's clear that I'm being avoided by the owner to ensure that I continue to pay month after month despite meeting the requirements for the cancellation of my membership. I have never experienced this level of awful customer service before and never been taken advantage of like this. If you're thinking of joining this gym, I'd suggest going anywhere else because the way they treat their members is unacceptable and they will definitely take advantage of you too given the opportunity.

Admittedly both the trainers I had here at the Jackson Road Anytime Fitness were both excellent. One was a friend and the other was a brand new trainer that I never knew previously. They both were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful with my personal fitness goals, but that’s where the positive experience ends. I would suggest anyone looking for a new gym, beware of the contract you have to sign as a member, it is nearly impossible to break the contract with out paying the total membership fee(I had a lawyer look at the contract because I was so dissatisfied). This means if for some reason to change your mind about Anytime Fitness as a result of a bad experience, whether it be with a trainer, you decide you no longer want to attend the gym, or you have a problem with the ownership or management you are legally obligated to pay for the total cost of the contract. For example, my first trainer was fired, about a year into my contract (I was signed up for 2 years total). I found out from my trainer she was suspended pending review. Not once was a contacted by the management or business ownership to notify me that my trainer was suspended and was unable to train me or to apologize for the inconvenience as I was paying and being charged for a service I wasn’t receiving. Subsequently, she was fired, weeks went by not hearing from the business owner or management. I finally contacted them directly, expressing my frustration, with the fact that I was paying for personal training with out receiving the sessions. It was only after I threatened legal action they immediately told me to come in talk about my options, in all of my experiences at a number of different gyms corporate, franchised, and private. Never have I ever received such unbelievably poor customer service. Today I received a call saying my payment information needed to be updated to fulfill the remainder of my monthly contract fees. Again I never received any notification that my account payments were being suspended due to the Covid-19 shutdown, especially with my contract supposed to be ending last month. I paid the total of what I owed on my contract and have never felt so happy to be out from under a business that forces its members to stay to make money. I know from what I saw at the gym(other members trying to leave the gym membership for various reasons), other experiences from people I knew who attended that gym, and all the similar reviews present here on google this place is not worth the headache, the problems they cause, and there poor customer service.

I love Anytime Fitness! I transferred here after trying to work out on Labor Day, and another 24/7 gym was closed. Anytime Fitness was open, and I had an amazing time! They are truly a 24/7, 365 facility; members are given key fobs that allow access at any time. Make sure you understand the fine print, though - there are different costs related to the length of your contract. The staff are happy to work through the details with you to find the right plan for your needs.
The staff are WONDERFUL! Anyone is welcome, and there is never any judgment. The other gym members are great, as well; if the machine I want is taken, people are always kind to share - we simply trade machines between sets. The facility seems a little small, but it has everything I need for a good workout. The staff also offer free monthly assessments from a personal trainer, which can help motivate you to stay on track and help provide suggestions for meeting your fitness goals.
If you're serious about getting in shape or getting in a solid workout, this is definitely the place to go!

I recently returned to the Ypsilanti Anytime Fitness to start training for my 5K in April. I noticed there were no towels and no shower towels out on the shelves. I asked a trainer by the name of Sim why were no towels out. He said this place has changed owners and they do not have that service no longer. Strick 1. Sim set me up with a fitness evaluation with him on another day and he did not show up for that meeting. Strick 2. I finally came in on another day with a gentleman in the office named, Vince. I told him the issued I had with Sim. We talked and he was going to have his nutricionist call me. That has been over a week and no one has called me yet. Strick 3. Plus when I was working out on the machines I noticed how dusty and dirty they were. Plus people just walked off of the machines without cleaning them. Flu season!!! Strick 4. I can only say one thing good for this location, close to my home.

It's a great place to workout. They have enough of the equipment and weights one really need to workout imo. The place is also clean. Their treadmill is also well cushioned, so no joint pain when running. At first I was a bit bordered by workout proximity (with others during busy hours) when the gym first relocated to it's current building, I stopped feeling this way actually. A lot of other gym (much bigger, or smaller) have about thesame workout proximity actually, and we were a bit spoiled at the old building. This is my impression of the place after 2 years of being a customer. Hope this helps.

First, I love Anytime Fitness in general because sometimes, I want to work out at 8AM, but some other times, I REALLY have the desire to lift at 3AM. Unlike Planet Fitness, there are actually weights big enough for me to lift (they go up to 100 lbs. with dumbbells), and there is no blaring alarm to judge you if you need to drop super heavy weights (because, well, safety).
Anyways, I've been to a lot of Anytime Fitness gyms, and this one is in top 2 (along with Gretna, LA). Very clean, never too crowded, and very friendly staff. Also, the membership price is very fair. I have had Anytime Fitness gyms try to ramp up the price on me before, but the prices here are very reasonable.
If I were to nit pick, some of the machines are a little bit older, but still fully functional. Also, at times, I come into the gym and they are playing hip-hop (LOVE), but at other times, the music mix is pretty terrible (I kid you not -- right now they have the Sesame Street theme song over house music on their mix -- I have a feeling this is the standard Anytime Fitness mix. It's pretty horrible).
I can't imagine myself at another gym any time in the near future. I love it here!

They don't do day passes. Firts gym that does that. So as a truck driver I can't come in and pay $ to work out. How stupid.

I left this gym a few months ago. The service was terrible. I waited for 90 minutes for the dude behind the desk to talk to me. He told me he'd be with me soon (as he was on what sounded like a personal call on his cell phone) and then when he was finally available, some hot chick walked in and he welcomed her right into his office in front of me. I had had enough. The Anytime I used to go to was decent, but not this one. Never been back since.

Great staff, good equipment, motivating not intimidating - great all around. The old spot had more space, but after getting used to this one I haven't really noticed. Glad to see more boxing equipment in lately too!

This gym and the people here are awesome! I was only in Ann Arbor for the summer, but everyone was super welcoming to me. The equipment is all in good condition and there's a nice fitness studio as well. If I am ever back in Ann Arbor I will definitely be working out here.

Excellent and compact gym. Very clean and well designed. It's like planet fitness had a love child with snap fitness. It had enough cardio and free weights to make it a perfect fit for me. Has stretching area, yoga area, 10ish cardio machines, dumbbells, pull-up bar, bench, squat racks, machines. 4 private bathroom showers. Trainer mark was super friendly and helpful on my 1st visit. One cardio machine had the tv right in ur face but otherwise was perfect for me. Of the dozens of gyms I've been to in 20+ yrs, this one makes the Top 5 list.

I might be biased because I'm a trainer here, but before I started training at this gym, I fell in love with it. I workout here every day and quickly became friends with the staff. When I was asked to come on as a trainer, I couldn't say no. The equipment is great; weights for any lifting goal, machines, brand new treadmills today! With a studio for classes like Zumba and yoga, private bathrooms and a great atmosphere, I can't think of anywhere else I'd want to workout or train.

My life has gotten so much better now that the westside Anytime Fitness (formerly at Maple Village) has reopened now on Jackson Rd. I was so happy at the club on Maple and missed it during reconstruction and this new one equals or is even better than that one. Really, the credit goes to Laura, the owner/manager who has been a welcoming, helpful presence at the club and is continually striving to make the club an awesome place.

Newcomer to Ann Arbor... living on west side...so delighted to discover this resource. Always clean (or being cleaned real-time), bathrooms roomy and hygenic, friendly staff (Laura & Derek the best!), lot of classes and drop-in options -- AND -- periodic fresh fruit a nice touch, along with standard nutritional items (bars, drinks). Can be a little tight depending on daypart, but 24-hour access provides 'anytime' convenience. Great choice for the low fees!

The new ownership/staff is responsive and the gym is always clean. They are starting new classes and adding more personal trainers as well. While it's not the roomiest gym ever, it has much more (and better) equipment than most other Anytimes I've visited across the country.

Nice people. Patient on helping me. Nice clean place.
They gave me a key fob that opens the door so I can use the place anytime.

I've been a member here since 2009. While this is a franchise of the nationwide Anytime Fitness, I can vouch for the personal service the owners give their members. As with any business, I've had issues pop up over time but every time they have responded quickly and exceeded my expectations on resolution. The staff is generally friendly and just operating based on rules they're told to enforce; if you run into problems, just politely ask to have one of the owners give you a ring. They'll make it right!
As for the quality of the gym, they have all of the standard weight room equipment, particularly dumbbells through 100lbs. Everything is in good repair. I typically go between 6am-10am and I can always get a bench or the equipment I need. It's definitely quieter during the middle of the day or late at night if you're into those time slots. The bathrooms (including showers) have always been clean. If something is broken or you have ideas on improvement, let the owners know b/c they are very receptive to new ideas.
A big perk of this membership is that you can visit any Anytime Fitness location in the country which is handy when traveling (though more locations would be nice). You can also use the location on the east side of Ann Arbor.

I will be cancelling my membership soon. Unfortunately, this was marketed as the only reasonable non-Planet Fitness gym in town at a reasonable price that was open 24/7. If you're looking for a more serious lifting atmosphere, do not go here. If you are just looking for a place to do cardio, this isn't a bad option...for the most part.
The bathrooms are disgusting. Clogged toilets. Toilet paper on the floors. Old magazines by the toilets. People think it's okay to "leave the kids in the pool."
Awkward, weird employees. Oh god. One employee stutters and is extremely rude, while finding time to "impress" nasty women with his less-than impressive lifting ability and physique. And, he wants the gym to be as quiet as a library.
Riff raff. Plenty of it. Like the others have posted about, I highly recommend working out early in the evening. If you go a minute past 10PM, you will likely encounter a group of street thugs lifting half naked or legitimately mentally disturbed gym-goers wanting to be your best friend while on the treadmill. Even if you go earlier, I have seen with my own two eyes, members trade numbers to procure contraband. I'm pretty certain homeless people buy memberships so they can use the bathrooms. Don't even think about not locking up your locker. In my 20 years of lifting, I have never been to a gym whose membership has the number of loose cannons as Maple Anytime's.
Members somehow think it's okay to hog a sole piece of equipment for a legitimate hour as they text and talk with their roided up friends.

From an equipment standpoint, it's more than enough. Plenty of cardio machines, hammer strength machines, and free weights. It's a good gym for wide range of folks with varying fitness competencies.
However, there are some downsides:
1) Becoming increasingly "Planet Fitness-y." You get dirty looks from employees as if you murdered someone when you grunted to get the last rep in or needed to drop a weight to prevent an injury. Ridiculous. I pay $35 a month for a reason--to avoid having to workout at the hippie gym down the street. Leave me alone.
2) DO NOT GO LATE AT NIGHT. Sketchy, sketchy people in there. It's not uncommon to see ex-convicts lift shirtless at 11PM on a weekday. I've literally overhead gym regulars talk about doing illicit activities and their "connects." Grungy people come in late at night just to take a shower and leave. I always feel like I might get stabbed if I lift after midnight.

This gym (like many others, I'm sure), has predatory membership agreements, and I would recommend avoiding it. You are required to sign up for a one year membership, then when you try to cancel, you are required to wait 30 days until the cancellation takes effect, which means one more monthly payment plus another yearly membership payment. I'm not sure other gyms are any better, but I would definitely shop around and read your agreement carefully.

A little price for what you get. It's usually pretty empty if you go late, which is nice, but for $45/mo, I expect newer equipment that's in better shape. Then again, the monthly fee probably keeps the crowding down (and keeps out some of the riff raff!). While new equipment is nice, the largest annoyance at the gym is sitting around waiting to use a piece of equipment, which I rarely if ever have to do here when I go after 8pm.
I lived up north of town and went to the Plymouth Road Anytime Fitness, which fairly new having opened in Jan 2012. That Anytime is a smaller building that tended to get more crowded, but also has newer machines that are in much better shape.
Planet Fitness just opened down the road, which I may check out when my contract ends. This Anytime isn't bad, but compared to the newer one on Plymouth Road, it was definitely a downgrade.
Also worth noting, they will give you a $5 credit if you write a positive review on here or Yelp, so these reviews may be skewed! (Guess I'm not getting my $5 credit).
