I had bought the new student pass as I have wanted to get into yoga recently and today I used my third credit of 5 don’t think I will be back. Today is my birthday and I wanted to come in to do some yoga I can say the class was great except at the end when the instructor called me out for using my phone during Savansa in the moment I apologized profusely because I have extremely bad anxiety and others were around me gathering their belongings so I felt very called out. The reason for the review is that well, I wasn’t using my phone during savansa the person next to me was and had a very similar outfit on/build as me. I would like to think the instructor just got us confused as we sort of looked similar and it was dark in the room and we both left the room about the same time - but it felt really bad to be called out for something you did not do in front of others and on my birthday of all days Yikes. I can understand completely the instructor wants a distraction free environment but maybe make sure you are talking to the correct person. While I cannot fault them for not knowing it was my birthday I can fault them for calling out the wrong person. I was planning on buying the monthly subscription after my five classes are up but I now plan to look at other studios in the area - as I do not feel very welcome here. Shame to waste the last two passes I have as the classes here are quality and the studio is beautiful and clean hence the 3 stars.

I recommend the Friday evening Vinyasa class with Nicole. From the moment I walked in, Nicole made me feel so welcomed and comfortable—like I truly belonged. The class was the perfect balance of challenge and accessibility, especially for someone who hasn’t practiced yoga in a while and is postpartum.

We eased in with a smooth, grounding flow, gradually picked up the pace, and finished with the most relaxing savasana, complete with a refreshing eucalyptus towel. It was exactly what my mind and body needed. I’m so grateful for Nicole’s thoughtful guidance and calming presence.

I would absolutely recommend this class and studio to anyone, and I’ll definitely be back.

I bought a monthly unlimited package at the Grosse Point studio. They did not notify me when they decided to close the location. When I finally figured it out, I contacted them to cancel my membership. 2 months later they are still charging me! HORRIBLE, UNTRUSTWORTHY BUSINESS!

I was an active member at Bold Flow however I moved to Detroit this year so I don't make it to the studio much. I make it a point to go to Nicole's classes or workshops because I resonate with her style of teaching and overall personality. She speaks from a place of knowledge of the practice and combines it with real life experiences. I never feel like I'm being preached to like you can feel at some studios and I always leave class with my nervous system regulated.

Absolutely mediocre. The room was “warm” I wouldn’t consider it heated. The instructor provided the most chaotic sequences I’ve ever experienced, she didn’t demo them, announced the “poses” using names for them that a practiced yogi wouldn’t necessarily know - like “side squat” for Skandasana (even if you’re not going to use Sanskrit it’s typically referred to as half squat.
The instructor then just let us “solo practice” for about 10-15 minutes at a time where the room felt all over the place. I came hoping for a solid yoga practice and flow but left mildly annoyed I paid $25 for a woman to say pose names I have never heard of, not demo them and then leave me to my own devices for 60 minutes. Also when I think of heated yoga I think 90+ degrees and sweating not I turned the heat up slightly and it’s warm in here…

Yin Yoga with Meggie Roach was exactly what my tight hips needed. Her use of the available props (bolsters, straps, blankets and blocks) really allowed me to relax deeply into the stretches. I felt refreshed and restored by the end of class. I look forward to taking her class again soon.

The teachers are fantastic and the classes are great, but I was double charged for a monthly membership for two months in a row ($238 in total bogus charges), and after a month of being given the run-around, I still don’t have my money back. I have spoken to three different people there via email, over the phone and in person, and it is still not resolved.

The hot vinyasa is incredible. Exactly what I was looking for when finally returning to yoga after 8 years and 3 kids! I can go at my own pace, feel inspired by the music, and still sweat like crazy if I just stayed in child's pose. The flows are easy to follow and the breathing techniques taught really helped me move through the flow. I really enjoyed my class with Katie today! The studio is very laid back and didn't bombard me with info my first class like other studios I have been to in the past. I’ve really enjoyed my experience so far.

Katie is an amazing instructor; she creates flows that make the moves more like a dance so when it comes time for the next move the transition makes sense. A beautiful space. Welcoming and inclusive staff, teachers, and students. There seems to be set guidelines for difficulty depending upon the class name (guided flow, vinyasa flow) so you don’t randomly end up in a class that’s way easier or way harder than what you had expected just by trying a new teacher.
The teachers are supportive without being overbearing -you can chose a variation of a pose that you feel is right for you at any.

I have attended the yin class 3 separate times and each time I left I am disappointed. I came in with a good attitude and excitement to stretch and do some good for my body. However every single session had no more then 6 poses that were basically some variation of laying on the floor. It’s not only that, each time the instructor was fumbling with the music and turning it on and off and ruining any chance there was of having a good vibe. I decided to add more own variations to the poses since I was not feeling any sensation and the instructor proceeded to call me out on it which lead to the rest of the class turning their heads to look back at me. It just seemed extremely unprofessional and left me feeling uncomfortable. I don’t think I will ever attended another class here.

I cannot run and I cannot have much impact on my knee/ back. I leave the yoga shelter knee pain free and relaxed. The workout you get is also amazing! I found muscles I did not know I even had! The Yoga Shelter is a very inclusive studio. I love that there are so many different types of people at the studio. I don't feel like people are trying to compete and show off, everyone is genuinely there to have a great workout!! The instructors are all so informative and nice!

Yoga Shelter Royal Oak is one of my favorite places to practice. The location is convenient and easy to find. Staff are incredibly friendly and warm. Instructors are willing to help and answer questions before, after, and during class, which makes this a great place for either someone new to yoga or a seasoned yogi. Every class has offered a new challenge—so you'll never have to worry about classes getting monotonous!

I think Yoga Shelter may have saved my life.
After the rug was pulled out from under me towards the end of 2018 I started yoga at Yoga Shelter to try and learn how to breath better and I learned that and so much more. It is the most judgement free environment I have ever been in! I feel so safe walking through the doors. I will be forever grateful for what I have learned and will continue to learn about myself and the world from the amazing people there.

I really enjoy yoga shelter and several of the instructors. They each contribute their unique practice. I would recommend trying all studios and different teachers. I like the west Bloomfield studio the most, but I feel that royal oak or Birmingham studios offer the best rotation of teachers

I am new to yoga and tried the Yoga Shelter in Royal Oak with my friend. Going into my first class I was very nervous because I didn't know what to expect and it was a vinyasa class. I was pleasantly surprised with the class! I felt very comfortable doing what I could and did not feel judged at all by other people! It was so great after my first month of classes, I bought 6 months unlimited classes! :)

I signed up about two weeks ago at the Yoga Shelter in Royal Oak. My very first encounter was pleasant and I was made to feel very welcomed. I have never practiced yoga before and each teacher I’ve had has been more than helpful. The staff at the desk assisted me in finding a mat that works for me. This small yoga studio has such an amazing and peaceful atmosphere. I’ve gone into the studio feeling off but every time I leave I feel a sense of calm and relaxation. If you are looking for a place to practice yoga that is centered around your mental well being....the yoga shelter is the place to go!
