**YOGA TEACHER TRAINING BEWARE**

Update**
Please know I have spoken with Yoga Alliance, and they do NOT condone any of the things that happened at BYC. Multiple women have come forward since this review was posted with their own complaints. My certificate was transferred to another studio by Yoga Alliance.

I used to adore Brighton Yoga Center—it was my sanctuary, with incredible teachers who genuinely cared about their students. However, my experience with their yoga teacher training (YTT) program was a complete letdown and a stark contrast to everything I loved about BYC.

Despite completing the entire program, I was blindsided with feedback that I wasn't "living the yoga lifestyle." What does that even mean when they never clearly defined the rules? Apparently, I had unknowingly broken some undisclosed guidelines. Their solution? Repeat the entire program. It felt like favoritism was at play, with certain students getting special treatment while the rest of us were left in the dark.

The owner, who should embody the principles of yoga, is ironically the least yogic person I've encountered. He's notorious for belittling teachers and wielding their certifications as a form of control. This is not how a yoga studio should operate—it reeks of ego and manipulation.

Had I researched more thoroughly, I would have realized that BYC's YTT program is more about profit than fostering genuine yoga practitioners. Coming from a professional background, I've never witnessed such unprofessionalism. The lack of transparency, arbitrary rules, and preferential treatment are unacceptable in any educational setting, let alone one that's supposed to embody yoga's principles of inclusivity and respect.

Save your time and money. There are studios out there that genuinely prioritize your growth and well-being, unlike BYC. Don't make the mistake. I did—look elsewhere for a YTT program where you're valued as a student and where integrity isn't an afterthought.

AMAZING STUDIO AND YTT PROGRAM!

BYC fosters a supportive, inclusive, and highly skilled YTT program. The calming studio atmosphere instantly puts you at ease. You can see the strength of the BYC community as patrons know each other, are talking about their lives and yoga experiences, and feel at ease asking for support or expressing themselves to the owner and lead teachers.

All of the teachers are BYC are highly adept and in tuned with the needs of the yoga community. The lead YTT teacher is knowledgeable in all things yoga. Her calm and encouraging demeanor made her very approachable to talk all things yoga-and beyond! She became a mentor and friend throughout the program. The program was clearly defined and outlined at the beginning of the YTT program. Students had clear expectations of what we were learning, work load, and schedule expectations. While the program was rigorous, we were supported as human beings with real lives, families, etc., first and foremost.

I appreciated how the owner of the studio was YTT certified himself, and could talk about all things yoga with students. He reflected on his own experiences and understood what we were going through. He works closely with his experienced yoga teachers to ensure YTT students receive the best and most thorough training and positive experience. You can tell he puts a lot of effort and work into making the studio a safe haven for people of all levels.

When you participate in yoga teacher training, you get so much more than just yoga. You become a part of the BYC family. The closeness and bonds that you build in YTT go beyond the training. I know that I have lifelong friends from this experience.

I feel confident and well prepared after graduating from this program. You truly can walk into any studio and be a confident teacher of a variety of yoga classes. THANK YOU, BYC!!!

I have gone to a number of classes here and I have to say the vibes are impeccable. It always feels good walking in there and the good energy sustains!
This is my favorite yoga studio in the area! Nothing but love at BYC! They are a warm and welcoming place regardless of level of yoga experience.

My fiancée just went through yoga teacher training here. I was so excited that she had the opportunity to do it as she has been looking forward to it for a few years.
The program was wonderful and exceeded expectations. She learned so much and built very positive and valuable relationships along the way. I’m so happy that BYC gave her the opportunity to do this.

this is my home studio and I LOVE it. About a year ago, I was in a very stressful situation and this studio became my sanctuary away from the stressors of life. From that I decided to do their YTT program and get certified to teach yoga to others. It was a great experience that deepened my practice and as individual and helped me find warm and loving community.

Definitely check them out if you’re in the area!

So glad to see a quality yoga studio right in downtown Brighton. The hot classes are great, teachers I’ve practiced with so far have been knowledgeable and friendly, and overall happy to have a new home base studio nearby.

I was going to BYC for a long time. It finally gave me an hour out of each day that I ever so greatly needed for myself after my daughter was born. It was amazing having someone to watch my child in the child care area when we came. Unfortunately we had to stop going to BYC because when the new owners took over they slowly weeded out the child care with no communication to their customers. They started off by "letting go" of the full time child care staff. Then decreased child care hours to morning only. Then once COVID hit it was a great excuse to never bring child care back all together without mentioning a word go their customers. Let's keep in mind there are literally no documented outbreaks of COVID in children under 12. My daughter was 3. The only reason why I could attend was because I had someone to watch my daughter. It was my saving grace. Unfortunately, Yoga is not an option for me anymore. Totally disappointed. Some communication from BYC would have been nice.

Super welcoming atmosphere and yoga classes for all levels of ability. I always leave class feeling better than when I walked in. I drive 25 minutes just to come to this special place even though there are studios much closer to my house. Highly recommend!

Part of me doesn’t want to review BYC. It’s purely out of selfishness. I was very hesitant to even consider yog as part of my workout regime(loosely put of course). I was also a bit concerned that I have the grace of a rhino in roller skates on a greased, icy surface.

Once I got past my own hangups, I discovered a very welcoming yoga studio with no pretenses and thus far, no judgy, preachy peeps. Just a down-to-earth experience with friendly, knowledgeable instructors who take the time, even during challenging times to help with the practice.

It’s a great place and very family-like. The facility is calming and subtle as well. I would like to see more classes but I’m sure as Covid gets more managed, we’ll see more. TNT (Tanya N Team) are amazing!

I was nervous coming into a new studio but when I walked into my first class at BYC everyone was so welcoming and kind. I fell in love with the people and the space. It has become like a second home to me. All the teachers are incredible and Bridget the owner has a heart of gold. If you are looking for a space to practice I would highly recommend BYC.

There are not enough good things I can say about the BYC! I started two years ago knowing absolutely nothing about yoga, and because of the teachers, childcare, and variety of classes, I feel confident in my practice and truly look forward to going. Each instructor offers a unique teaching style and they are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The atmosphere is relaxed and judgement free. If you’re thinking about trying yoga or are looking for a new place to practice, I promise this is it!
