60th Surprise Birthday Party.

The staff was great, they even used the pool bar area since it was not being used.

The buffet was excellent including the carved meat and salmon.

The view of Deer Lake was a nice plus.

We have been there for dinner a few times since the party and the restaurant is great, often with entertainment.

This club is old and falling a part. Men’s VIP locker room is very cold in the winter, women’s locker room was an afterthought has no amenities. Men’s sauna is useless, temp way too low to be of any benefit. Weight training equipment is minimal and what is there is constantly need of repair. Took a tennis lesson once, the instructor spent more time talking than we hit balls. Pools are okay. Don’t recommend joining this club.

We use the banquet center a lot for group activities. Food is almost always just like warm. This last time my salad had a lot of black areas where it was cut with a knife, obviously the salad had been sitting for a few days, as an ex restaurant worker I know old lettuce when I see it.

Normally i never have an issue with there staff or anything and just come here to use the minimum equipment they offer, but two staff members rudely removed me and my friend from working out and made an entirely huge deal about working out in their building as 15 year olds. In the gym, theres a sign that says 14 and under isnt allowed, so I dont know what their issue is but its not even good i dont recommend here for anyone honestly. Horrible staff and equipment, no wifi or ac.

This place has went completely downhill. They raised prices for Club improvements in June. All we have gotten is more cancelled classes in the last 2 months then the previous 2 years, broken steam shower and sauna since summer started. The rest of the place is old and dated, maintenance of the place is non existent. I wish we had a better option in Clarkston, I know I won't be continuing here.

I love Deer Lake. The tennis courts are just ok. In the winter it is absolutely freezing in the tennis area. I love the restaurant, though. It's really cozy with a fireplace and you dont have to be a member to eat there. Food and service are always excellent. They make a great drink. The nachos are so yummy and huge. The salmon is excellent, too.

We are not members but used the pool recently. It was $20 per person but it was fine. We used the training pool and it was so nice and warm. They said the larger pool is cold so we didn't use that but might in the summer. We are considering a membership because of how nice the facility is and how friendly everyone was as well. They also offer a lot of classes for swimming, tennis, etc.

Been a member for 15 years but that counts for nothing with the club. Club does not invest in improvements and has deteriorated steadily over the years. Many of the lights for the tennis courts are frequently out and the courts are dark.

Recent management has taken to sticking it to members and are not hesitant to lie to your face. Unfortunately, I had to drop out of the club due to an injury. In typical hashion, the club invented a “new” policy that you have to give a month’s notice or pay an extra month’ dues (I gave 2weeks notice). Of course, they have never told the members of this policy.

If you want to be a member of a rundown club and be treated like crap, Deer Lake is your place.

I hosted part of my wedding celebration at Deer Lake with a pickleball tournament, and it was absolutely perfect! The setting was ideal, players enjoying the courts while other guests were upstairs, where we had reserved tables with food and drinks. All guests fantastic time. The servers were incredibly kind and attentive. If you're looking for a fun and memorable venue for your event, Deer Lake is the place to go!

Absolutely the worst tennis tournament experience I’ve ever had. The scheduling was terrible. I ended up getting a court 40 minutes after my first match was scheduled, which resulted in only a 10 minute break in between my first and second matches. The line judges and tournament director were also disrespectful. They also ended up entering my scores wrong on the USTA website.

We had dinner there on a Friday night for the prime rib and it did not disappoint! So good! My husband had the bone in king cut and it was huge! The server, Lisa, was phenomenal! Personality through the roof and made our night out with our favorite couple amazing! This is now our favorite place and look forward to many more delicious and memorable times at DLAC. Thank you!

Update February 9 2024 Since our experience was top notch the last time we went to DLAC we wanted to go again for another enjoyable meal. Unfortunately this time sad to report the whole night was a total mess. I had originally made the reservation for 8 people but called and changed it to 6. When they sat us, the table was still set for 8 and huge. There was no way to have a conversation for 6 of us to hear each other. At the same time we were sat another large party of 10-12 and 2 other 4 tops were sat in 1 servers section. Basically she had over 20 people to take care of all at the same time. Crazy! No one person could ever do a good job for any of her tables in that situation. I felt so bad for her! To say everything from ordering our drinks and food to getting them took forever would be an understatement. We didn't get bread until we asked for it, salads didn't get served at all, side dishes werent served and our food was cold because it sat in the kitchen while our server was taking the order for the large party. I totally sympathized with the server that none of this mess was her fault. Where was the manager? I finally went to the hostess stand to find the manager and explained what was going on.. that we were missing food and the food we had was cold and all the manager did was to have someone bring us 2 baked potatoes and pour more water for us. Then she was gone. After 2 hours of what was supposed to be a lovely dinner shared with our friends, we were all frustrated and disappointed and just wanted to leave. The checks finally arrived, and not one cent was comped off our meals. I pretty much paid $18 for a piece of bread and 2 pieces of fish. I took our bills up to the hostess stand in hopes of talking to the manager, but she was nowhere to be found. So we paid the bill in full and tipped the server generously because none of this was her fault. The manager should have stepped up and done the right thing. So instead of taking off the bill the items we never received and the inedible cold food we did get, she lost 6 customers that will never return and will not recommend DLAC to anyone else which is very short sighted on her part. We were all so looking forward to a great dinner and sharing a great experience with our friends, but the night was a disaster. If you do go, I hope you have the experience we had the first time and not the last time.. which is our last time.

I would give this place a zero if it was possible.
This used to be a gem in Clarkston, not so much anymore. The roof is leaking, so many ceiling tiles are water stained, the carpet Is old and really showing its age, the down stairs pool area looks like it has been updated in decades and for 3 months has had the same garbage in between the crumbling floor. The manager does not have a voice nail to be able to leave your concerns, and when you email, it takes weeks for someone to notice. When you call and leave your number, no one returns hour call.T he parking lot is all broken up and vtery uneven. They have ZERO consideration for the physically disabled and challenged.
And the food in the Back Court us mediocre.

DLAC did not disappoint.
Room(Courtside) was perfect for our crowd, food was excellent (chose to serve a 2 entree sit down plated lunch).

Our first Easter visit did not go so well. I reserved a table for 9 and specifically requested main floor dining due to our 76 year old mother who cannot do steps and uses a walker. Whoever took the reservation on the phone did not put that request in for us. When we arrived 5 minutes before our reservation I found out they had us on the bottom floor. I explained the situation and she said she would have a table for us soon on the main floor. After 45 minutes there was still no table. We finally said just put us wherever and we will manage. 15 minutes later we were seated. Unfortunately we had to carry our mother down the steps and she wasn't able to do the buffet herself because of this. Staff was very unorganized. Food was great however not a good place for those that are disabled.

Please don’t waste your money on swim lessons here. Despite being told that children will explore the water through song and play and be introduced to safety skills our teacher barely spoke and didn’t teach our son anything. It was a complete waste of our time and money. I even spoke to the swim coordinator after week one expressing my concerns and was assured things would improve. One of our four week seasons was canceled for weather and we weren’t offered a makeup session or refund for the missed session despite emailing the coordinator and being told during signup that makeup sessions would be arranged. Very disappointing experience and lack of communication for price paid. Please spend a few extra bucks and enroll your kiddo in goldfish for real swim lessons.

This club is alittle older, in some ways it shows its age but that's kind of its charm. It's not a fancy, loud music modern club, more laid back, judgment free. Two pools, one is very large in an enclosed glass type structure to let the outdoors shine in. Great indoor tennis courts for year round matches. Plenty of work out equipment and never a line to get on a machine. Although I've never hosted or attended a function here they do have an impressive banquet facility. I've walked thru it several times and its quite large with full bars and kitchen. Overall I find Deer lake a hidden jem. Also, it is open to the public, you dont need to be a member to enjoy the facility.

Just had Mothers Day Brunch, thought we would try it Instead of the normal main street Clarkston spots ( which we LOVE ) had a bigger group & thought the size might work better as DLRC is so large and my memory from long ago was good about them ?

But two times in the first hour after chasing down ( 2 rounds of drinks only ) food was serve yourself . Waitress with a multitude of exuses. No busing at table some of the food mediocre at best .
It Seriously felt like the last stop at a Clarkston food Bank . Waitress attempted kindness but laced with exuses the entire brunch.
I tipped 20% off the entire $388.00 dollar bill not just for her serving only 2 rounds of drinks in 2 hours, the food was serve yourself buffet. I Needed to prove a point with the tip, this was not an attempt to take advantage of the seemingly nice waitress but seriously I dont typically write reviews but in this case just had to, NEVER EVER AGAIN will we be back to the DLRC

My own ( 81 ) mother , my wife with our 2 grown kids, a nine month pregnant mother ( our daughter) with our 4 year old Granddaughter and it was a complete embarrassment, worst Mothers day I can recall. We enjoy going to cemetery's as part of highland Paranormal Research. This is a beautiful cemetery 🪦 a nice blend of new and old, it's very organized, and laid out very neatly. It has a rustic bridged drive. WW1- WW2 cival, and even revolutionary war vets buried there. Including army memorabilia. We watched deer cross the field, about 40 yards from us. Lots of wildlife, chipmunks, squirrel's and even heard a fox. All in all a very clean and serine cemetery.

I wish I would have read previous reviewis before I had booked my wedding reception there. My only advice would be
"DON'T DO IT"!

#1)Forrest (the owner) fired the girl (Debbie the banquet director) we had started planning with,
3 months before our reception. They replace her with a employee from the banquet staff. No previous experience in event planning.
#2) It was so hot that when the cake delivery came our baker said it was going to melt. She had gotten there @3:30, the reception started at 4:00. It would of seemed they would of prepared the room by turning down the thermostat, and turning on the air conditioning. When we arrived, the thermostat was still at 70.
#3) We asked for fans, because our guests were leaving, and finally they brought one & put it on the dance floor. Unfortunately it was one with blades & the grandchildren wanted to put their fingers inside the cover.
#4) The only entree we got to taste before hand (they told us no food tasting after Debbie was fired) was the beef and it wasn't what was served at the wedding.  It was lower quality meat, so I asked for steak knives. By the time those came out, the plates of food were cleared.
#5) We had an open bar (up to $500.00), but early on they were making my guests pay for Titos, which we were told was a well drink. Then they would take the drinks off the table if you left to dance just to pad the bar bill.
#7) The place was still so hot, my guests were leaving, so no one wanted to dance.
#8) Earlier my girlfriend woke at 6am to make cannolis. She told them the reception name, was directed to our banquet room and gave them to an employee to be served with the cake.  We were told we could bring in our own dessert.  They never made it to the dessert table. I never found out about this till a couple of weeks ago, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back. We still don't know what happened to them.  We should have been called w/ apologies, returned, or something deducted from our bill.
This doesn't give me pleasure to write such a scathing review. I was hoping to write a nice one. Unfortunately that won't be the case.

The pool is great!!! Pool side service is close to nonexistent and kichen is beyond slow. Have been waiting over an hour+ for cheese stix. Bring your own food and drinks so you don't dehydrate!!!

Come here every year for the past 15 years for the mothers day brunch specials and have never been disappointed. Selection is great, food is delicious and staff are always very kind and courteous.

Met the fam there for Mothers Day brunch. Hate to say...TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT ! The food was barely warm, oversalted and tasteless. I tried both breakfast and lunch plates. On the breakfast side the scrambled eggs had no taste and had a very strange texture. French toast would be defined as crouton (hard) sticks. I could barely chew them. Don't try the bagles without a glass of water, they were stale and like sand. Lunch was much of the same. The chicken pot pie was not edible. The desserts were outstanding...tastey and plenty though. Overall service was between poor and middle of the road. Still tipped what what was fair although we were overcharged as senoirs. Didn't know about that cause our son paid an over 200 dollar tab. The overall experience was sad and made our list of Clarkstons worst and of course we will not need to visit again.

This place is so cheap they complained to costumers who asked for enough bread for everyone on the table. On top of this they served 5 pieces of chicken for 10 people. We ended up cutting the chicken so everyone could eat. People still missed out on beef and salmon. They used to be better, but definitely a fall in service. Also, the plate i was initially was provided had a large chip in it.

On behalf of the Pine Knob Ski Patrol, we would like to recognize Deb Cavalieri and her staff for the outstanding event they put together for our organization. If not for her personal attention to detail, outstanding creativity and superior personal initiative, the program would have been less enjoyable. Our organization will return next year, in large measure, due to the efforts of Deb Cavalieri. She is a tremendous asset to the Deer Lake facility. Thanks again for a great evening.

was just there for a benefit, they sold 400 tickets and they had hors d'oeuvres as one of the featured items for the benefit. They ran out of food with over 50 people or so in line waiting for food. Wait staff started taking away the service. Bad for customer service it's a shame. something to think about before you book any type of a party there

Attended their Easter Brunch. Very good selection and reasonable price. I would have given them 5 stars, the only reason I didn't is due to the distance you have to walk to the food set up is actually rather far, especially for someone who is older and some of the hot food was not hot. So, given the distance you had to walk back to your table, it had already cooled off. There was a very nice salad selection if you're Vegetarian. I would not have had fried chicken as a selection (messy to eat) but would have chosen another chicken offering such as Chicken Piccata. The the gentleman serving the roast beef needs to learn how to slice the beef and not serve it in chunks. According to those who ate meat in our party. They also had a nice dessert selection as well. Would attend a brunch here again.

We went for lunch. Food was excellent & server tried hard to wait on 8 tables in our group by herself. Apparently they don't have full staff until 4 o'clock & didn't see our reservation size until last minute. Call a couple days ahead if you have a larger group.
