This gym is right around the average marker. I was told I’d have VIP Guest Access with my membership, and is one of the sole reasons I signed a contract at this location. 4 months into my membership, they strip me of that privilege, and I get to pay the same full price I was paying. The only perks I have now are access to other Fam. Fitnesses and the fact that it’s a 24 hour gym (not impressive). One of the least cleanlier gyms I’ve been at, and the equipment is not prime whatsoever. I got charged a random $88 for an ‘Enhancement Fee’ that no one ever addressed with me when signing up. This is now my 5th month here, and I’ve been paying on average $53 a month for a lower-end, not highly maintained gym.
I’d go elsewhere if at all possible.
Staff is at least friendly, but don’t go out of their way to save you any money for real.
Being a college student, it really hurts when you get hit with these random fees/have your $5 perks taken from you, and no discount ensured with the removal.

A few months into my membership and I really enjoy it. Great group of members, everyone seems to be really friendly. It's always clean and organized. Has everything you'd need for weight lifting and cardio. The manager, Shawn, has been able to get me and many of my friends a membership at a GREAT price.

Do not....I repeat DO NOT pay for a membership with a credit card at this establishment!! I've been a non active member for quite sometime and attempts are still being made to charge my credit card that they have on file!!! Thankfully this credit card # no longer exists but scary to think if it were what kind of unexpected charges could have been made to my account!! 😳😡 They baited my daughter in with a drawing she "won" at a hockey game.....she and I fell for it and they realed us in hook line and sinker....our bad 🤦....I just wanted to share so no one else has this happen to them 👍

I signed up for a membership here before the Standale location opened. While it did take them longer than expected to fully open, now that it's fully open I don't have any real complaints. I did sign a 3 year contract, but it was not unknowingly. I do not understand all of the reviews I've seen that state they were tricked into signing a 3 year contract or signed it unknowingly. How do you not know what you're signing? Read the contract, people. The annual "maintenance" fee of $44 seems silly, BUT it's not something that isn't written into the contract and that I wasn't told about. I am also very aware that if I want to cancel within my 3 years, it will be hard to get out of. But that's what a contract is. And if you want fitness to be part of your lifestyle, paying $25 a month for unlimited access to gyms all around Grand Rapids for 3 years is a decent deal. I've been going for a year and a half now and I don't intend to quit in the next year and a half.

My ONLY concern is that when my 3 years are up, I'm not sure if they will try to auto-renew my membership or make me pay a fee to not renew it. I have seen dozens of reviews of people having a hard time breaking their contract before it expires, but I haven't seen many people talk about what the process is like for them once their contract is fully up.

We have been going to FF in Standale since February. We (my husband and I) have had three trainers - Rachel, who left to continue her education in Iowa; Lily, who's class schedule this fall did not accomodate our schedule; and now Zak. Everyone of them has been great. What is important to me is their emphasis on correct form and knowledge of anatomy. No use doing the work if you are doing it wrong. Everyone is friendly and always helpful.

I signed up back in January and didn't go for a while but when I finally got in I ended up getting a personal trainer Lilly and she is amazing! She keeps me motivated and pushes me without pushing me to far. She works with my schedule and my strength level and doesn't give up on me. They have an amazing payment schedule so I don't even need to worry about it and if I need to change a date they work with me which is amazing. They are such an amazing team and I love it. I would definitely recommend this gym to anyone who is looking for a great team who works with you!

POSITIVE: I absolutely loved this gym. Having Ty as a personal trainer was great! I learned so much from him!

NEGATIVE: I moved to Texas and since I did not have a permanent address to provide them with, they would not cancel my contract using the "moving fee" which was $75.. INSTEAD they made me pay them $300 to cancel my personal trainer contract..even though I showed them proof of my TWO new jobs in Texas, with my temporary address. I think it is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous that they would not accept these as proof. VERY UPSET.

My girlfriend has been a part of this gym since September of 2015 and is wanting to cancel because of the cost (she pays for a personal trainer which is $100 a month on top of the normal $28 membership fee). In order to cancel (which is poorly translated in the contract) you have to submit a letter of cancellation to corporate 30 days in advance of payment (for such a small company this is pointless in my opinion) and in my girlfriends case, she has to pay a cancellation fee of $550 just for the personal trainer!! I personally find this ridiculous especially since the contract doesn't clearly indicate such an enormous charge. Family fitness has been known to have trouble before according to the Better Business Bureau. I find Family fitness's business tactics and prices disgusting especially since it's just a local gym. If I could give this organization a 0 out of 5, I would.

I joined before they officially opened because of the location so near my home and wanted to start a journey to fitness. My personal trainer Ty has helped me accomplish things physically that I never dreamed I could do. With his help and encouragement I have lost inches and body fat percentage and gained strength and flexibility. They offer a great variety of classes and all the trainers are friendly and encouraging. I have never felt intimidated going there and that is what kept me away from gyms for so many years. I have never committed to a gym membership so of course I was nervous to do so but Lilly the person who helped me was so friendly. She made sure I got the plan that worked for me.She wasn't pushy at all. She simply showed me their options and allowed me to choose a membership that worked best for me. Visiting other gyms there was always these backhanded compliments as if that would motivate me to work out. It's not that way here. I feel safe and comfortable to walk in and do my thing. I was looking for a way to get back into going back to the gym when I moved to Apple Ridge Apartments. The staff were wonderful and the process to start a membership with them was easy and informative! I love how close I am to the place! I feel comfortable and don't feel judged when I go in. I absolutely appreciate the women's zone in the back with the circuit training near the locker room! Another plus is that they are 24/7 and that works great with my 2nd shift job. All of the classes are included with membership which is another great way to get back into a work out regime!

I would recommend getting a membership here! The cost of my monthly bill with Family Fitness for two people is less than some folks get for one membership other places! A great deal, wonderful staff, great workout options and they even have a tanning bed what more could you ask for?

Family Fitness took awhile to get up and started but it is finally here and I love the fact that I can come anytime 24/7 days a week. The place is very clean and the workers are so nice and caring.
