I can’t recommend Five Lakes CrossFit enough!
After months of dealing with persistent neck pain and completing my physical therapy, I still felt like something was missing. I needed targeted training to strengthen specific muscles, and I knew that required the expertise of a skilled personal trainer.
That’s when I started working with Liz — and after just one week of personal training sessions, I already feel stronger and more supported in my recovery. Liz is incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and intuitive about exactly what your body needs after an injury. I’m so grateful I found her and Five Lakes CrossFit.

I absolutely have only great things to say about this program. I was invited by Karmanos Institute to join this program. Having cancer is challenging and I was able to see results in the strength of my body with the work outs from Five Lakes. I told my oncologist and Karmanos that they need to keep encouraging people to join this facility. The monitoring of people in the class was great which my doctor was very pleased with. If there was something specific that one could or could not do the instructors found alternatives.
I am hoping to rejoin again when my schedule opens up.

It’s almost five years later, and Five Lakes is still a huge part of my life. I’ve grown a lot as a person and athlete. Five Lakes continues to be a place where all are welcome and supported. We moved to Brighton over a year ago, and we still make the trek to Farmington hills because no other gym comes close in terms of support and community. Even if you’re brand new to fitness, five lakes is still the place for you. Come join the family!!

LOVE Five Lakes. I worked out at home for 3+ years because I disliked going to a gym THAT much, out of both anxiety and an absence of any community feeling. I've only been doing Crossfit for 2 months, and I'm already in love. Five Lakes is such a welcoming and inclusive community. All of the coaches are great. They're so knowledgable and provide great feedback so you're always safe, but they push you as well. I feel so supported by everyone at Five Lakes. Everyone is so nice and you instantly feel like part of the family (because you are). If you're scared to try Crossfit, you really, really don't have to be. There are options for every movement so you're challenged but met at the level you're at. The coaches and members will support you and help you along the way. I never, ever thought I'd be someone that says that I'm actually excited to go to the gym. Every workout is hard, but legit SO FUN. And a huge part of that is the family at Five Lakes. I cannot say enough good things about it. Liz and James have created this amazing place that lets you know you're supported and that they're happy you're there. Whether you're new or a Crossfit pro...there's no better gym than Five Lakes.

Great community, great coaches and owners, great gym.
That sums it up, but let me add some detail. I've been a member for around 5 years and joined after attending a free trial class. The owners are there every day coaching and supporting members and that coach + community support is where the magic happens. Every member is working to improve themselves, and there's a feeling of 'we're all in this together' in every class I attend. The programming is focused on personal improvement and adjusted for everyone to keep them making progress with emphasis on technique not just heavier weight. There's a positive attitude across the board where everyone's successes are celebrated. Check out their Instagram page (gym name) to see what classes are like. Regardless of where you are on your fitness journey, you won't find a better gym than Five Lakes CrossFit.

As a guy in my mid-50s, I was hesitant to try CrossFit. I assumed it was just for younger, ultra-fit people flipping tires and lifting heavy weights. But after realizing the toll my poor health and limitations were taking on me, I decided to check out Five Lakes CrossFit—and I’m so glad I did.
From day one, the coaches and members were welcoming and knowledgeable. James, Liz, Bruce, and Jess took the time to modify workouts for me, ensuring I was challenged but never overwhelmed. Mobility and injury prevention were a top priority, which was a huge relief. I wasn’t just thrown into high-intensity workouts; I was given guidance, support, and the tools to improve safely.

I have been a part of the Five Lakes community for ten years. Owners James and Liz truly changed my health and fitness trajectory in a way that I would have never been able to do on my own and for that I will always be grateful. I started my CrossFit journey in April 22 with Five Lakes. Initially signed up because I was tired of going to the big chain gyms and figuring out what was the workout of the day. After a few classes, I quickly realized CrossFit is much more than a workout program. Its a community and here at Five Lakes, its the tightest one. It has been quite a journey for me and after 20ish months, no doubts I am stronger physically, but I am so much stronger mentally. I am more self confident, make better decisions and in a good place mentally.
And the best part about Five Lakes is that its the friendliest box in town. I felt welcomed from day one. Everyone is encouraging each other to push harder. The owners, James and Liz, are also the coaches. Small businesses FTW!!!
Highly recommend dropping by for a few classes and see yourself get transformed into a better person.

I gotta start saying that I was not a big fan of crossfit even though my husband was a coach back at Mexico. My husband and I moved to Michigan in February 2023 and the first thing we did was sign up for a class at five lakes. It was the closest place we found to where we were staying. As soon as we arrived, the coach (Jessica Christie) welcomed us and let us know how the class was going to be and explained everything in a very detailed and patient way. Also, people there were very friendly and giving us tips. All coaches here are amazing and very helpful whenever you need them and ask them for advice.
We also got to know the owners (Liz and James) because they coach some classes there and I can say they are wonderful and so fun to be around.
We have been going to five lakes for almost 10 months and we are so happy we ended up there. We have made a looooot of gooooooood friends that we hope last forever.
Long story short, Five Lakes Crossfit has become our second (if not first) home. So I would encourage anyone seeking a place to exercise, have a good time, improve your health and become a better version of yourself to come to Five Lakes… this is the place to be.

I had the privilege of starting my workouts as a breast cancer survivor for C.A.P.A.B.L.E. (Cross-Training and Physical Activity: A Better Life Experience), a Karmanos Cancer Institute research study of the impact of cross training in cancer patients and survivors. That was 3 years ago and have found my determination and commitment has helped me in my recovery from chemotherapy and radiation. Every single class I have taken the coaches are kind, patient, friendly and very knowledgeable in their instructions. Coach Liz has empowered, inspired and given purpose to so many. Five Lakes teams up with Karmanos' CAPABLE for all cancers. That's dedication. There's more because with the big-hearted coaches there's never just one story. Been a member for over 5 years, and still never bored with a workout. Not only does Five Lakes have highly trained, extremely knowledgeable and encouraging coaches, they foster a warm, friendly, and inviting environment in which all feel welcome - no matter their age, physical fitness levels, etc. The camaraderie between members to inspire and cheer each other on is fantastic! In any given class I have participated in, there can be people from 20-70 years old and we ALL get an incredible workout. All movements can be modified or scaled based on individual needs, with an emphasis on improving skills. I feel like this is an investment in my health and functional fitness, and the laughs & fun we all have is the extra bonus!

When we moved back to Michigan from Cincinnati in 2021, I had already started Crossfit so I had a good idea of what I was looking for in a great gym and checked out pretty much everything in Oakland County. After my first drop-in at Five Lakes I knew immediately it was going to be the right choice. Five Lakes has great owners/coaches, athletes, facilities, community, and programming. Here we go… I discovered this place 2 years back when i moved to Michigan, I re-searched lot of crossfit gyms but Five Lakes Crossfit stands out in every department, either it be coaches, the box itself, th programming wods, strength work and people working out here.

Five Lakes is the best gym around. They have top level coaches that are extremely knowledgeable and great with adapting workouts to your abilities, whether you’re an elite level competitive athlete or someone who cannot squat to parallel, the coaches are great for all levels. The community and people there are also awesome and inspiring. There are amazing athletes that are fun to just watch and there are people that lost capacities from cancer that are fighting back and making progress every day. No matter where you turn there is someone to motivate and inspire you.
On top of all of this, the facility is great, clean and welcoming. Plenty of space and equipment to get fit, have fun, meet awesome people and shatter your goals!

Coach Ali did a great job providing specific coaching to all the athletes, staying organized and maximizing the hour long class. These three things are difficult to perform and are a mark of a good CrossFit gym.
I would highly recommend to anyone in the Farmington area to check out this gym, you won’t be disappointed.

I have been working out there nearly three months and it is really a great CrossFit gym! James, Liz and all the trainers really take the time to make sure everyone understands the movement and works on their technique to ensure everyone's safety and maximum effectiveness in working out. I have seen my strength and flexibility improve tremendously since I started and am excited to see what I can improve on in 2018.

Visiting from out-of-town and they we so friendly and accommodating. Worked on clean and jerk and even hit a PR! Coach James was awesome and very knowledgable. Took some great pointers back to my home box in Ohio. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

The kids and teens crossfit program at this box is amazing. My kids have gone from sedentary to active. They love getting to go work out with other kids their age. My youngest told me it's so much fun, they just play games and then proceeded to show me a plank and a handstand. She doesn't even know she's exercising and learning skills! They liked it so much that I've started going well and have made great progress. Definitely worth checking out!

This is a great box with talented trainers and a very upbeat atmosphere. I am decidedly out of shape, but the staff here adapts to your skill and fitness level to make sure you get the most out of each session. I can see progress every week. Highly recommended.

Was visiting family in the area and decided to find a box and drop in for a WOD. This was a fantastic choice for a morning workout! Coach/gym owner James was very helpful with improving my rope climbing technique and the atmosphere of the box was very welcoming. I'd never done CrossFit before, so I was a bit nervous to try it. I'm relatively healthy in that I can go for a jog without dying and carry moderately heavy boxes without breaking my arms, but I couldn't do a pull up if someone paid me a million dollars. That being said, I'm all for learning new ways to break a sweat, so off I went. And I'm definitely glad I did.
The coaches at Five Lakes were amazing and I got a lot of personal attention. These were new movements for me, so they made sure to explain each and every exercise clearly and kindly. The exercises were also modified for my abilities but hard enough that I got a good workout.
On top of that, it was super fun. I loved the team mentality and the support. I've never been cheered on so loudly for literally just holding something for a while. I deserved it though. It was hard.
This place is great. If you want to try out CrossFit, are looking for a team to help you get motivated, or are already super ripped and just want to stay that way, you should go to Five Lakes.
