The Back Care yoga classes during the week are the best. Working on a computer most of the day is brutal and this helps so much! Love the Detroit location. You do have to climb some stairs to arrive to the class location itself but it’s a good warmup for your body.

There needs to be a better policy regarding lost and found. I left my belonging after the latest yoga class. After I realize I left it, I called during operating hours the next day and they could not check for it until the class is over. Okay...thats fine. I got a call that they found it but they were getting ready to close. I told her that she can leave it outside the door or bringing that store next door so I can come up there and get it since I'm down the street but I was told that that's not the policy and I had to come back during operation hours. I come back on Monday to find out that lost and found is inside the yoga room and now I have to wait for class to be over just to retrieve my stuff. Why is lost and found in the same classroom that you can't interrupt to retrieve for people who's not attending class? So now I'm feeding the meter just to wait for class to end so I can get my stuff. Whatever you do, don't lose anything here because you'll be jumping hoops to get it back.

In an era when yoga studios multiply like kombucha SCOBYs, Full Lotus Yoga Detroit achieves something rarer than a perfect chaturanga: authentic practice in genuinely beautiful space.
Perched on the third floor of a renovated 1920s building in New Center, the studio occupies 2,650 square feet of industrial-chic serenity. Large windows spell out "YOGA" in individual panes—a bit of typographic theater that works both as street advertising and interior design. During Sunday's 11 a.m. Vinyasa 1 class, actual sunshine streamed through these letter-windows during sun salutations, creating the kind of synchronicity that makes you believe the universe might actually be paying attention.
The space honors its banking heritage—those ambient wall sconces were once bell covers from the 1899 Dime Savings Bank—while embracing Detroit's industrial aesthetic. Exposed black ductwork and structural beams frame white walls dotted with snake plants, creating an atmosphere that's simultaneously urban and zen.
But atmosphere means little without substance, and here Full Lotus excels. The Sunday session opened with breathwork and visualization before flowing through intelligently sequenced poses that challenged both body and mind. The instructor wove yogic philosophy throughout with the kind of organic integration that would make Ram Dass proud—spiritual concepts emerged naturally rather than feeling like forced enlightenment.
Notably, class concluded without the ubiquitous "namaste"—a small but significant gesture of cultural awareness that suggests instruction rooted in genuine understanding rather than spiritual tourism.
The diverse student body reflected the studio's welcoming ethos: practitioners of various ages, body types, and apparent experience levels all finding their place. Props were abundant, cuing was clear, and that often-rushed savasana received proper reverence—long enough for actual rest rather than performative relaxation.
Post-practice amenities border on luxurious. The shower facility is generously proportioned—easily accommodating a small meditation group, should communal bathing become the next wellness trend. Beautiful subway tiles, geometric floor patterns, and a spa-blue ceiling transform routine cleanup into genuine self-care.
At $30 for a 30-day trial (free first class with Michigan ID), Full Lotus positions itself as accessible luxury. The studio successfully creates sanctuary feeling despite its bustling Woodward Avenue location, honoring both Detroit's industrial heritage and yoga's contemplative traditions.
In a city rebuilding itself one thoughtful business at a time, Full Lotus Yoga represents the kind of establishment that makes neighborhoods: beautiful, authentic, and genuinely useful. Whether you're seeking philosophical depth or just a really excellent shower, this third-floor sanctuary delivers both with equal grace.

I've been in Michigan twice this year for family crises...each time, I've gone to class every day at the Full Lotus Grosse Pointe studio. It was not only the best yoga instruction I've experienced in years...but the people and the vibe were so welcoming and supportive during a very vulnerable time. I don't know how I would've coped without knowing I could be there on a mat every morning, to gather strength for the day ahead. Thank you Full Lotus, keep doing what you're doing.

I love having a yoga studio within walking distance of my house. The Full Lotus Yoga studio in New Center Detroit has become an integral part of our community. It is lovely seeing neighbors at classes. The studio is on the third floor overlooking Woodward with nearly floor to ceiling windows, giving a really cool urban vibe. The owner, Liz, has such a calming, warm, peaceful presence, which also makes her a great yoga teacher. I take the lunch-time yoga for back care regularly with Liz, Tristan, + Monica, which is also available online Monday - Wednesday for days when it is tough to make it to the studio. The evening candlelight restorative + yin classes are rejuvenating, especially during the dark winter months. This studio is a resource I turn to again + again when I need to ground myself. Thank you!

If you’re unsure of how to start your yoga journey - full lotus is a great place to get started.

I love the wide variety of types of classes and times of day. This is just a perfect place to either drop in for a class or two or make it your long-term yoga home.

Although my favorite class is traditional Ashtanga flow, there's something for everyone. I always suggest the Yin and Vinyasa 1 for beginners and all classes for intermediate and advanced. The atmosphere is calm, warm and positive.

Love this studio, it is welcoming, peaceful and a real sense of community. So many studios try to push themselves as being a community when really it just is very cliquey place full of people trying to get somewhere and very "business" driven. This place is a house for true yoga to exist. No fancy philosophy lessons or cult like following. I love that it is somewhat small, I am able to make a connection with my self and the community without the pressure to be something other than I am.

Such a friendly and supportive staff. Great experience overall! As a yoga beginner, it’s always nerve-wracking entering into a new space and being surrounded by more experienced students. The staff were super friendly and made me feel welcome. I’m working on my $30 trial for new students to try to figure out what classes I like best, and will be looking for a deal on a class package soon!

Today on it’s grand opening I got to practice in the space for the first time, the studio is simply stunning. Natural light flooding the room, with incredible views of Detroit all around. Owner Liz DeFour taught the class with authenticity, compassion and deep understanding. There was live music (steel tongue drums) which was a treat and perfectly accompanied the flow. Highly recommend this studio for everyBODY!
