Cleaning is something lacking in general in this place. The equipment is rusty, the lockers are broken and dirty, the sauna is all full of grime, the showers are even grimer, the pool is a bit cold and has a lot of sediments, the lights flicker.

I was a member at this gym for a period of time, but unfortunately, I did not enjoy my experience. I had switched over from Planet Fitness, expecting an upgrade, but found the opposite to be true. Planet Fitness, despite being a more affordable option, was much cleaner and had newer, well-maintained equipment.
In contrast, the equipment at LA Fitness was often rusty, dirty, and worn down. The entire facility felt dusty, dimly lit, and not well cared for. It lacked the fresh, energized atmosphere I look for in a gym. At Planet Fitness, staff were consistently walking around cleaning and keeping the space spotless — something I didn’t see much of here.
In the end, I decided to leave LA Fitness and join another gym. I won’t be returning.

Each LA Fitness location I have trained at was a joke! All of the locations I have visited were filthy. No supervision on the floor so most of the men are sitting around trying to pick up women or, sitting around video taping the female members without their knowledge... Especially the Livonia location on 7 mile and middle belt. The locker rooms are always filthy! There's no one watching the members or the cameras.... So basically... Anything goes!

I’ve been to quite a few gyms, but my experience at LA Fitness has been one of the worst. The facility itself is passable, but what truly ruins it is the completely unprofessional behavior of the manager, Yashicka.
From day one, her attitude has been rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. Instead of addressing legitimate concerns or questions from members, she’s condescending and seems more interested in power-tripping than managing a fitness center. I’ve witnessed her speaking to members in a disrespectful tone, ignoring concerns, and even brushing off issues that clearly needed escalation.
When I attempted to bring up a billing discrepancy, her response was not only unhelpful but combative — as if I was bothering her by asking for clarification. This is NOT how you treat paying customers. A manager should be the example of professionalism. Sadly, Yashicka is the opposite.
I’m seriously reconsidering my membership, and I’d advise others to do the same — or at the very least, avoid this location until there’s a change in management. Your time, money, and sanity are better spent elsewhere.

Gym equipment is not well maintained, and often machines are down, ripped, or otherwise unusable. No paper towel, seat covers or towels available ever. Sales team is pushy, unhelpful and borderline harassing (Eman especially). Seems to be a single person cleaning and based on the cleanliness of the gym, they need at least three.

That being said, actually gym goers are friendly (except for the fist fight that broke out between an employee and a guest where police had to respond). The classes are also decent, but once again, run down mats and other equipment. You can find a good rotation on the courts.

Unsafe location, had things stolen out of my locked locker twice and the staff was no help. Staff blamed me for using the wrong type of lock and told me that it is common for people to break into locks in the locker room.. If that is the case why is there not more security or staff monitoring the locker rooms. Sounds like it is a known problem, I'm sure it is happening to other people and nothing is being done. Will not come back to this location as I shouldn't have to worry about things being stolen from a locked locker

I’ve been a member of LA Fitness since 2016. Almost 10 years. Never been stopped going to an any LA’s out of the state. Advised me I had to pay $10. For what. This the same LA in my home state with the same amenities that I pay for on a monthly basis. I obviously am not home to be able to utilize the membership I pay for. Anywho. Front desk offered no alternatives for me, besides to change my entire membership paying an extra $100 +. So I left and went to Livonia, where Rob the Asst. manager was able to come up with a temporary solution for me. He also let me workout without issue. How hard is that to do? Corporate needs better options for people who travel for work. Sure it’s not the front desk fault who’s just a worker. Members should get the same treatment and options at every gym!

What happened to the old LA fitness. A series of inconveniences that really have impacted my gym experience have led to this post. Just for context, I have been a member for a little over a year and switch from Crunch (which was a really good gym for the price) only because they lacked a basketball court and swimming pool.

Today was the straw that broke that camel's back. After my gym session, I left and forgot my gym water bottle. When I got home, I called the gym and the receptionist answered the phone. I asked if she could check to see if the cup was anywhere in the gym (with a specific location of where it was). To which she replied, "I'm the only person on staff right now and I can't leave the front desk". Now I get that it's not necessarily her job to go out and check, but the receptionists with the exception of one person LITERALLY just sit there with their sippy water bottles and watch TikToks! Pay no attention to who's coming in without any acknowledgment of any of the members with a hello or good morning.

Furthermore, the basketball courts are always slippery. The gym equipment is always needing maintenance, they don't take care of their gym equipment. It's just a shame that I pay $35 a month (not counting the annual fee) for sub-par service. I'm honestly considering switching to a private gym

Been a member since they opened. Equipment is old and terribly maintained. No paper towels. If you want to shave, there's no way for you to clean the sink. Members sweat all over the benches in the locker room but, you can't clean it off. I went to the club by invitation from my coworker for water aerobics. The chlorine wad so strong my eyes were burning & my breathing became labored. I left the club. I showered at home, and I couldn't stay. I was really shocked by how strong and overpowering the fumes were. The next day, my stomach felt unsettled & my skin was extremely dry & felt awful.

A step up from places like planet fitness but not quite as boujie as Lifetime. They have a sauna and hot tub which is nice. Their selection of weight machines is top tier & I especially like working with their personal trainers, particularly Brian. Their staff is super nice and it seems like I always see at least one person cleaning, which is good since they only have a few sanitation stations for machines (spray/wet wipes) on the floor. They have some classes they offer throughout the day like cycling, Zumba, and yoga. Huge indoor courts. Nice pool and clean locker rooms. I love this place.

Very unprofessional staff, they misinterpret on how you sign up for the membership they lie and tell you the first month is waved, but they actually charge you an annual membership five days later and will continue to Beat around the bush if you want to cancel your membership that give you all this excuse excuses on how to cancel. Then they can’t even answer simple questions about membership charges, and prices. They need to retrain all the staff in the store on how to talk to people and how to reiterate membership fees and prices back to planet fitness I go.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a membership for our family. We weren’t aware this location didn’t have a facility for children. We told the sales rep Eman we were looking for a family setting to where we had someone to look after the kids. Eman then proceeded to ask my boyfriend if he’d like to just get a membership by himself then. I thought it was a weird thing to ask as we were there to get one together. I thought it was an odd request, he declined and said that’s not what we are looking for at this time! Although it was an odd gesture we had agreed, we went on about our day.

Until today Eman called him on his phone and proceeded to ask him once again to come join the gym without myself and the kids!
She seems very pushy, not sure what the angle is. Just all was a little uncomfortable!

Upsetting that all you care about is money. Signed up with personal trainer to complete a career change. Was told several things that they would make an exception for me by a sales rep that is no longer employed there which they never committed to on their end. When told what I was promised noone cares at all. I am being charged for training sessions that I can’t use due to no trainers available at my only available time slots which was known ahead of time before committing to contract. Instead of canceling my contract they insist on me doing a buy out or transferring to another gym. 4 months has went by and I have only used 2 sessions because they don’t have the personnel to fit my needs. Also was told they would give me extra training sessions included in the set price for free. Needless to say the sales team will say whatever to get you to commit to a 25 minute session of a baby workout not worth it and a huge rip off!

I joined La Fitness not long ago and was signed up by Ed who was very amazing and friendly, took care of my concerns that I had before joining and showed me around the gym, then I had an assessment done by Paul which was also a really great experience I use to go to pf and nobody would take the time to actually help me and Paul was excited to work with me and show me how to use the machines properly and what I would need to do to reach my goal and get my shoulder motion better. Thank you both for the great experience. Overalls this place is very clean theres a lady who keeps up on cleaning and restocking and does a great job she always greets me in a friendly manner I'm glad I finally found a gym I'm comfortable with thank you again

A few of the people at the front desk are really rude. The brown skinned lady with the mushroom bob style that talks loudly is definitely rude. I think her name is Yasheka or something like that.There’s never hand sanitizer in the dispensers. The women’s custodian does amazing work in the locker rooms. When she isnt there the bathroom and locker rooms are HORRIBLE. She needs a raise. They always have signs up about theft and safety now, which leads me to believe some of the patrons there (after 10 am crowd) is questionable. There is no seating area nor smoothie station; the place is overall outdated but it’s okay for a quick workout.

I came in and tried this place with my husband for the first time. All I hear is “good things” about LA fitness, but this place was not it. Walked in seems clean but once you notice no one cleans machines after using and just moves to the next, really is gross and unsanitary. Have we not learned anything from Covid? The place overall was very dirty, seemed like no one cleaned in years, it really made me uncomfortable to use machines. Not to mention the handle on the treadmill kept falling off when trying to get a heart rate, and again how filthy and caked with grime it was. The only “cleaning/sanitation” in the whole place was ONE station with dry wipes far away from the machines, glade I got some steps in but really? Just to be sanitary? I know planet fitness has a bad reputation but at least they are clean, have cleaning stations everywhere, and machines seem to not fall apart when using. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE UNLESS THEY WANT TO GET SICK OR USE BROKEN EQUIPMENT

Ed the new manager is a gem! He listens to concerns, is friendly and personable, and maintains professionalism. Would give 5 stars for him solely but he gym itself could be cleaner and better maintain. While there are plenty to choose from a plethora of machines have broken parts that seem like they'd be an easy repair. And the women's sauna had towels just thrown about in it. I have no idea how long they've been there. The locker room and shower area seems fairly clean though I would still wear water shoes to protect my feet. The atmosphere felt safe and quiet. I wasn't disturbed during my 45 minutes work out in the morning which I appreciated. Overall pleased to be a member at this gym.

Been coming to this location for a long time and it used to have the best sauna out of any of the other locations. But the last few weeks the men's sauna is horrible. It feels like it's not even working and when I ask the staff I get no answer and no reason why it's so weak now. The last time I went it was reading 120 degrees. That's a joke. I will be looking at a different location to go to now even though this location was convenient for me. If you care about the spa and sauna in the gym I suggest you look elsewhere. The female manager is very rude and displays a bad attitude. Anytime you schedule a water aerobics class in cold water every Tuesday, and Thursday it just not right. We have mentioned this issue numerous times, no ones cares. We were told by the female manager the motor for the pool was broken. I asked why didn't you cancel the class? Her response yes a female manager said to me why would l do that? The decision is up to you. Again, how would we know if you didn't post the information or advise your customers when we atrive. We can get sick, catch phenomena or even Covid then what? Why does the Plymouth location in Livonia have the coldest pool? Replace your management staff at the Plymouth location.

One of the worst locations I have ever been to. My boyfriend was involved in an incident (I’ll leave details out for safety reasons) where he was threatened with physical violence by another member. The staff had him call the police to make a police report and would have the member removed and banned from the premises. Long story short, after the police report was completed and the offending member left, absolutely nothing happened with the other member. I’m appalled and disgusted on how the location handled this situation/incident. I will not and have not returned to this location since. My usual gym is Royal Oak, however due to the incident at this location in Livonia, I have debated on whether or not I will renew my membership in July.

UPDATE 06/27/24: to be fair and balanced I want to point out this incident happened during March 2024(I’m leaving out the exact day on purpose), and was under different management at this location when the incident occurred. On 6/26/24 the new general manager Ed reached out to me based on this review to inquire about the details that occurred in the club in March. We did have a good discussion and he listened to my concerns and genuinely wanted to know what happened and to apologize on behalf of the club/company. I’m still not sure if I’ll change my mind about renewing my membership, but he was the first person from LA Fitness to reach out. Ed really is sweet and apologized for this even though he was not the manager at the time. So I have some faith in humanity on a personal level for Ed making the effort and I felt he was very sincere. However, when it comes to LA Fitness, Ed wasn’t the manager at this time and shouldn’t be responsible for cleaning up someone else’s mess and someone from corporate or even the club should have reached out to us much much sooner.

I had an issue at a prior La Fitness club that created a negative workout environment. I found this location & figured a change of location would help. Upon visiting this location today, the front desk was rude & would not let me explain. I felt defeated. I was even more uncomfortable with La Fitness. Ed was brought over to help me. I was able to explain to Ed what happened during my visit at a prior location . Ed kicked in to action & his customer service skills are amazing. He heard me, showed amazing empathy , and used great problem solving skills. My original membership was horrible. He provided me with a better club membership that helps me move around locations for not much more than I was already paying. He helped get my app setup & answered all questions throughly & with a smile!

My five star rating is exclusively for my interaction with him , without him , I would have canceled my membership & never looked back.

There is nothing in place in this gym. Never soup, or paper towels, you need to go and check by every sink. Mold on the shower walls. No words for how dirty the tiles are.

The equipment is usually sticky, some have even been covered with grease or have had ripped hand grips for at least a year. I love this gym- it’s always very clean and never too busy. That is not the reason for my review. I always bring my two younger sisters with me to work out and let them get some physical exercise. They are 16 and 13 and I’ve never had a problem bringing them with me until we came today and the manager was working. She gave us an extremely hard time, even staring my younger sister down for a solid minute making her very uncomfortable. She let us in “this one time” until I provide a birth certificate as proof of her age?? She’s small for her age and has trouble eating which is part of the reason I bring her, to keep up her appetite. I’ve never had anyone grill us in such an aggressive way when we’ve never had any issues in the past. Why would I ever bring in a child and put them in danger? I’m not even sure it’s legal for a GYM to request that type of document.

I like it here. One reason is because I feel the workers care. They actually show up for work. You always see someone maintain the building or the pool and the shower area.There's one person that stands out to me and I'm there at least 5 days aweek. A lot of the pads were recently replaced on a dozen or so machines.
Equipment is usually in working order.
A few of them need new parts, though.
Clean, bright locker rooms.

If the basketball court goes and more equipment gets added that would be the best thing to ever happen to this gym.
We need a lot more room in the free weight area. There’s many machines that this gym could benefit from adding, as well as more power racks.

Compared to all the other locations I’ve been to this is the best one! Cleaning lady is always doing her job, I’ve never felt like the locker rooms were not up to par. 1.10.24 which is a Wednesday between 6:30 and 7:30 I had a very uncomfortable experience with the manager of front. I didn't get her name she's a black woman I'm sure she's not hard to find. She was very unprofessional and we had a back and forth over a situation. I would love for someone in management upper management to contact me and I can share the details and I can share the details the main reason I go to this particular location it's because it's right around the corner from me. The lady needs some serious training on how to speak to people in handle situations

I wish I could give 0 stars! This location is terrible! I came outside after a workout to find that someone busted out my driver side front window and stole my tote bag. Luckily, there wasn't really anything of value in it. I contacted Livonia police and they came quickly. I was informed that this wasn't a good location and that previously a guy tried to attack someone with a machete. Also, was told that (higher ups) were trying to get rid of the basketball court in the gyms because of the type of crowd it brings (a certain group of men) and a lot of the altercations stem from them and that basketball court. Overall, that location from what I've seen from myself has a lot of guys that look like and are up to no good. Also, the time they broke into my car and the time I left had a duration of an hour and 25 minutes. The police said someone leaving out scared the criminals off, yet the guy was a few feet away from my car and didn't realize what was going on. And, the fact of the time frame people coming and going and no one saw my window busted to report to an employee in the gym to say that someone's car window is busted in the parking lot and it's still daylight. Never going back to that ghetto location again!

No matter where you are in that entire building, everyone can see you working out. Even the lap pool has windows that you can see into from the front desk. All of the cardio equipment is on a catwalk above everyone. Just super weird. The staff was very friendly, but it's just not a place for everybody. Especially those who are just getting started working out.

I love this LA Fitness. The staff is friendly and professional. They are willing to assist you and answer any questions regarding the facility. This LA Fitness location has plenty state of the art equipment. They offer a variety classes. They have a swimming pool, sauna and whirlpool. They have basketball, racquetball and cycling. And they have Wi-fi. They also have watering stations. I recommend the LA Fitness on Plymouth in Livonia, Michigan. I will visit this location in the near future.

Nasty and filthy, most of the machines are outdated. Fountain machines get broken all the time without any attention. No cleaning stations near the workout area. I don't recommend it to anyone. It's ok, I guess. The equipment is a little old. They do not have an area with mats for stretching, etc. You need to go into the yoga room for mats, and they only have the thin ones that aren't really good for much. The place is quite dirty. The "juice bar" doesn't exist. There's just an empty corner where it used to be. One water fountain is out of order. The other one is disgusting. But they do have a drink vending machine. The pool area is not appealing. They do have a jacuzzi hot tub, but I will not be going in it again. There is so much chlorine in it my eyes started burning with my head ABOVE water! With all the employees they have in there, some of them should be cleaning the place up because it seems like they all just sit around and chat. I don't just mean the ones at the front desk. I also mean the ones off to the side that are sitting at their desks. Terrible for cleanliness. No telling how often it's cleaned, but it's obviously not very often and not very well.

I checked in stretched and hopped on a stationary bike, without noticing it was a spider web on the low end of the seat and I got bit on the behind by a spider... Outside of that this location is a good location to get your workout done and get a great protein shake..

I showed up at 8:35 this morning on September 2 to make a decision to become a member at LA fitness and a lady at the counter who says she is the “Lead Janitor” took me back to go over numbers and I asked for her to take me to the bathrooms figuring this would be a good time to see the condition they were and it was horrible.
