I have been a Lifetime customer for over a decade, and I have never felt discriminated against until today, when Lifetime did not have a picture of me in their system. I was refused entry to their club after showing my membership card and a government-issued identification card. I am so disappointed in the Lifetime franchise, particularly in Novi, Michigan. I genuinely believe it was racially motivated. Emma Hammond continued to argue with me for over 20 minutes. To have someone go home and come back with proper identification. Still to refuse entry. To be handed a booklet on policy and procedures. To tell someone to take a picture with no ID and then deny entry with a government-issued identification. That speaks volumes. I will not pay where I’m not welcomed. Thank you Emma Hammond. I will not using Lifetime Novi, Mi in the future. For the record I do understand you should I have a photo in the system.

While I used to be a huge fan of Lifetime Fitness the membership dues have gotten way to expensive. After being a member for almost 10 years, I can no longer justify the expense, I will be canceling my membership.

I love my membership to Lifetime Fitness. The features and benefits make this place worth the money. I just wish they would go back to 24hr operations.

I used to have a membership here. I stopped 3 years ago in 2022 and thank goodness I did. Before the pandemic hit the gym was ok after the pandemic the place was falling apart like hot magma exploding like a volcano. The gym was falling apart, equipment and machines broken and destroyed and staff not caring to fix it. The locker rooms were a complete disaster locks broken people not taking their things home and leaving them in lockers which is gross and staff not caring to clean the lockers. The cafe food was pretty good but the staff that worked the cafe were mean and didn’t seem to care about there job or the customers. The showers, sauna and pool wasn’t bad but it could have been better. Also the staff there were rude and disrespectful to me. Definitely wouldn’t recommend having a membership here especially considering how expensive it is. Switching to my current membership at my new gym was 100 percent a good decision I made. Don’t come here for a membership because you’re money is going to get wasted for an expensive membership and staff disrespecting you instead of being nice.

This was my first time at this lifetime location. I walked in and greeted the front desk girl (redhead, fair-skin, young) and she completely ignored me which was really weird but I brushed it off and assumed she was socially impaired. On the workout floor, weights everywhere it was a disaster. Ive never seen such an unkept lifetime. Thankfully this isn’t my daily location but I can’t imagine someone paying the membership price and coming to this location.

We would like to commend LT for providing us with an excellent personal trainer (Jessica Jordan). My wife and I have been training with her at LT for more than 10 years-
very much appreciate her dedication, training skills, promptness, enthusiasm, and professionalism. We definitely would entusistically recommend her as a Certified Personal Trainer.

The gym is great. Awesome classes. Free towels to use.
However, the reason I am writing this review is for the swim classes at this facility. I can’t say enough about the amazing job that coach Michael and Trevor are doing. Since they've taken over, there has been a fantastic change in the team's energy and performance. They've introduced a challenging yet fun environment, and it's incredible to see how much the kids are thriving. Children are more motivated than ever, and their progress has been remarkable. Thank you!

I'm a 15 year old boy who's been a member since 2015 and I regularly use the Novi location for swimming and weight lifting. The people here are incredibly friendly and compassionate, I've never had problems with the staff and members. People are happy to share lanes, the building is quite well maintained and sanitary, and it is evident that there is a huge push to build community.

I've had horrible problems with other locations, specifically the Commerce Lifetime (which raised prices and had a huge quality drop), but this location in specific continues to excel and be a very including, open place. Price is justified and will likely stay a member for many more years.

My experience at Lifetime was extremely disappointing and upsetting. When I arrived with a guest pass, the woman at the front desk refused to let me in, stating that only members could work out on weekends—a policy that had just been implemented two days earlier. We were unaware of the new rule, and when we politely mentioned that, her response was, “You should learn how to read.” I was shocked and disgusted by both her tone and attitude, which felt disrespectful and, frankly, like racial profiling. We had driven an hour to get there, and I was forced to wait outside in nearly 100-degree heat while my friend worked out alone. I almost suffered a heat stroke. The experience was so negative that my friend, who pays $169 a month, canceled his membership due to the awful customer service.

I just want to thank Tyler - who works in the Front Desk, for helping my find my 'lost' car.

I went to lifetime for class and I parked my car in the tree area - slightly further than the most popular spot for parking.
But I couldn’t find my car after class, I thought it got stolen...

So i went back to the front desk, talked to Tyler. He offered walking with me to the parking area one more time just to see what I might missed. While we were walking, he asked me a few questions. Then suddenly I saw my car - It was under the trees, but in a different parking spot.

His people/problem solving skills must helped many members and visitors like myself, he went above and beyond today to help me. Thank you Tyler!

I’ve really tried to give it a fair shot, but I just can’t justify the $150 monthly fee especially for someone without kids and who doesn’t use the family or aquatic amenities. The pricing model seems geared more toward families than individual gym goers.

On top of that, many of the amenities are often unavailable due to maintenance or randomly changing policies. The gym is also extremely busy during peak hours, making it difficult to get access to equipment without a wait. It’s frustrating to pay a premium and feel like you’re constantly navigating around limitations.

The facility looks nice and the staff is fine, but for the cost, the value just isn’t there unless you’re using everything they offer which not everyone does. Definitely not worth it for the average solo gym user.

I came to lifetime for almost 3 years now, but every since adding the cold plunge around 2 months ago, the lifeguards and staff have been super rude to teens around 16 and 17 years old and it’s ridiculous! First of all, it’s ridiculous to change the age requirement for the hot tub and sauna from 12 to 18 plus. Its ridiculous because that’s literally a 6 year difference which is insane! To back up my claim, My friends and I were chilling in the cold plunge around 2 days ago, we were 16 and 17 years old, all of a sudden, this crazy karen comes out of nowhere and starts screaming at us telling us “that we’re not 18 and we need to get out now!” If she said it nicely, we would’ve just gotten out and moved on from that. But since she came at us so aggressively, we were scared so we lied about our age in a fight or flight response. She then begged for our ID. My ID was on my phone but I didn’t have my phone on me so I just didn’t respond back. She then came at me and used her title as “General Manager” and threantened to kick us out and called us liars. We then got out of the cold plunge. Around 10 minutes later, we decided to go chill in the hot tub, at the time we thought it was 12 and older and that the 18+ was only used for the cold plunge. So we chilled in the hot tub for around 3 minutes until she came out of nowhere with 2 lifetime workers in the side and yelled at us again to get out. She then terminated my friend’s membership because he was one year too young to go in a cold plunge and hot tub. She said that my friend had to make a new account under his parents account which is understandable, but she implied a 1 month suspension before he could do that. How ridiculous and cruel that is! Furthermore, some of the lifeguards can be very mean towards teens over the most stupid stuff. For example, my friends and I yesterday, literally the day after we got kicked out, were doing some throwing eachother around like one person would go in and we had to try to launch him the farthest. We knew this was safe because there were no kids around so this was completely safe. But all of a sudden, this random lifeguard comes out of no where and threatens us to stop it or she would kick us out. Lastly, the changing room floors are super dirty, including the bathrooms, Overall, Lifetime Novi is ruining it’s reputation under the general manager “Rachel Arts” with its ridiculous changes in rules and cruelty of its staff!

I have been a member ship for around 10 years and never had any problems in this gym and ever since i have turned 13 i have been having problems with all the workers here i can not even go upstairs without getting kicked out and i have never been licked out the sauna and now they changed the age but in the rules it still says 12, same with the hot tub i was in the hot tub and i got yelled at with my friends by “Rachel arts” my friend got suspended for 1 month because of a one year age gap in the hot tub and they searched up his instagram to see his true age. Another thing is I football has never been a problem here and ever since me and my friends played catch they made it a rule where u cant play football with people in the pool, this gym is a 1 star i do not recommend if you are a teen looking for fun…

Lifetime Novi IS NOT teen friendly ever since they added the cold plunge because now the cold plunge, hot tub, and sauna are now all for people over 18 unless a parent is there. But before, the hot tub and sauna was for 12+, which they only changed it to 18 because it was convenient since the cold plunge was for 18+. I respect the age rule for 18 plus, but you don't need to literally make it 18 for the hot tub and sauna, or literally enforce it. Lifetime Novi used to have chill lifeguards, but now they have lifeguards on me for literally no reason, being aggressive a bit, and all of that because I'm 2 years too young, whereas they could politely ask for me to leave. I'm not dumb enough to do anything stupid anyway. As well, today I went to the sauna with my teen friend and we got asked to leave because we didn't have an adult with us, but it was a bit aggressive tone, which was really annoying. However, the door on the sauna LITERALLY SAYS 12, like how are you going to change the rules and not update the door, at least they did that for the hot tub and cold plunge.

Also, another day, I got YELLED AT aggressively by the General Manager for being in the cold plunge under 18, which I respect, but the yelling wasn't necessary at all. She was incredibly unprofessional and was going all through emotions because my friend literally got his membership terminated and SUSPENDED for a month because he said he was 18 instead of 16. She literally was aggressively mean and a 1 MONTH SUSPENSION was not NECESSARY AT ALL! I do get the termination to make a new account, but I personally would just kick my friend out and tell him to come back the next day with a new account with his age and parent approved, that's it.

Also, when I was in the pool throwing the football with my friends while there are NO kids in sight, the lifeguard told us to put the football away. I understand that if there were kids that this would be understandable for no one to get hurt, but now I feel like us teens have no respect at this facility. We might as well go to planet fitness.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Lifetime Fitness that ultimately led me to cancel my membership. I sent my dad a guest pass through the Lifetime app, something I've done in the past without any issues. When he arrived, the staff—specifically Kim, one of the concierges—was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional.

They refused to let him in unless he showed ID and let them look at his personal phone, which felt like a clear invasion of privacy. We've never been asked to do this before, and there was no clear reason given—just a harsh tone and the claim that we had "no rights" because we were entering a private gym. The whole interaction was unnecessary and handled with zero respect or courtesy.

Kim’s attitude and the way the situation was managed were unacceptable. There was no attempt to listen or explain policies in a respectful way. As a paying member, I expected better treatment—not just for me, but for my guests.

Because of this experience, I chose to cancel my membership. I hope Lifetime Fitness takes this kind of feedback seriously. Members deserve to be treated with professionalism and basic human decency.

This location is in mediocre and aged shape overall, but thanks to Matt in the locker room the client experience is 10/10. He connects with members continuously, never pausing cleaning-folding-organizing, and is especially respectful to the elderly and kids. It’s much cleaner than locker rooms in Commerce and Rochester, as there is no one who appears accountable at either as Matt is here. With limited resources Matt excels. Nice hiring, LT.

I joined primarily for the swimming pool but the water is super cold and get colder! Now they have the cold plunge open and honestly there is probably a couple degrees difference between the temperature in the swimming pool and the cold plunge. The shock in temperature the body experience when you first enter the pool is identical to entering the north Atlantic ocean (coming from an ocean swimmer) and it's not healthy! I don't think anyone even monitors the water temperature and if they do is way below the 80F+ they advertise it for.

Lately there has been tons of long women hair hanging off walls in the showers and it's nasty + I see more and more women go in butt naked in the steam room ignoring the sign that they need to be at least covered with a towel.

Too liberal of management allowing all of these things - not good!

Perfectly good gym. 139/month for access to 4 clubs around metro Detroit is fair.

Plenty of free weights, squat platforms, cardio, n other machines/accessories. I wish they had another 1-2 smith machines but it’s not a deal breaker for me. The only thing I need to bring is bands for my warmup which I understand b/c those things mysteriously came up “missing” when they did provide.

I think people submitting poor reviews need to be more realistic about what they sign up for. It’s a high volume commercial gym, not an equinox. Even still, there are certain aspects that I give LT the edge over EQ. The outdoor pool + extended hours are just two examples.

I believe the company/management try to listen to the members. They Added pickleball courts with the surge in popularity over the last few years, added massage chairs on ‘24, and most recently announced a cold tub will be coming soon.

My daughter's employer partners with Life Time through Wellhub, she surprised my son and I by adding us onto her account so we may have the ability to have a membership with Life Time. We activated our accounts with Wellhub, Life Time and paid the necessary dues. She told me all was all set, just visit the location of my choice and ask for a manager because they have to set up the account, she did not have to be present. I selected the location in Novi. Upon entry, I asked for a manager and explained my situation. The three gentleman at the concierge's desk said, "No you can't do that, she has to be present, but she will not able to add you because it's an individual account." I politely, but insistently stated, "Yes, I can because my son has his account established and had no issues." After 10-15 minutes of debating, I called my daughter to confirm what she had instructed for me to do. She asked to speak with one of the gentleman, Nick. She explained to Nick the process, he finally took the time to look a little deeper, and was able to add me to the account. Instead of saying no, you can't, I believe the correct response for the three gentleman should have been, I don't know how. After Nick took a little time to listen to my daughter, the membership was activated. As I shared with him, be open to learn something new everyday, that's how we grow, no one is perfect. A little time and being kind can go a long way. Providing great customer service is more than just greeting members upon entry, it's taking the time to listen, and showing empathy.

Lol I can't believe it...LTF management is the worse ever. Every month they take something good and turn it bad... like one month, they said "effective immediately, no longer will we accept cash", now I can't buy life cafe. Then I get a prepaid card and they stop that. Then they said "effective immediately, no guest unless they make an account show ID card and be over 18"...so many effective immediately policies. I wouldn't be surprised if effective immediately no cell phones (music) or sweating 🙄

Pros:
Front desk is always welcoming, staff that folds the towels are always professional and friendly, and the instructors are knowledgeable, fit, and excellent at their jobs.

The parking lot is always plowed and salted.

All bathroom essentials are always filled (shampoos, body wash, etc)

Cons:
Definitely considering canceling my membership. I’m allergic to a cleaner they use. The second I walk into the locker room I’m doing nothing but sneezing, eyes are watery, and my nose is running non stop. Then when i leave I feel congested the remainder of the day. It only happens when i go there. Every other day Im completely fine.

Also, it’s dirty. Bathroom stall photos look like they’re from the early 90s and are damaged, the ceilings are caked in dust upstairs, the vents/tubing above the bikes that oversees the pool area is literally falling apart, lockers have hair in them, never look up when blow drying your hair or you’ll see a layer of dust an inch thick, etc.

Classes belong in a classroom. Don’t ruin everyone else's workouts with your loud music and yelling.

I will preface my review with saying I don’t utilize any of the coaching or really interact with the staff other than occasionally asking them for small things like lost and found, locker issues, etc. Thus far the staff has been great, unfortunately the concierge lead (Belal) is no longer there, his presence offered a level of care I do not see with the team that replaced him but I also haven’t had any issues since he left.

During the rush hours (4 pm - 7 pm) the staff will often fall behind on cleaning and towel service, sometimes worse than others but generally it’s manageable. Otherwise the gym is pretty clean especially in the mornings. Anyone who works out in the morning on their own would probably never complain about anything in the gym, the later you go the more likely the staff has fallen behind on cleaning and towels.

The workout equipment is pretty high quality and there’s a lot of equipment. Even during the busy hours I don’t usually have trouble getting on the equipment I want or at least having something else that’s similar open. There’s a ton of squat racks so that’s usually never a problem.

Overall I think the gym is worth it. Been a member since 2018.

The amenities are great. That, I won’t deny. The weight area is a mess. Every commercial gym I’ve ever been to is laid out better and more organized. The dumbbells are destroyed. All over the gym floor, no organization to the order of where they go, etc.

There’s not a single weight rack that I can see so the free weights are just all over all of the machines. If they had one or two racks that organized 45s, 35s, 25s, 10s, 5s, and 2.5s it would really help clean the gym floor up. The problem is there’s no place to put those racks. There’s far too much equipment on the floor. You can’t even fit behind the bench in order to spot someone. You literally have to climb over the bench behind the one you’re spotting on in order to access it.

Every gym I’ve ever been to has signs that tell people to rack their weights but they have nowhere to rack them from what I can see.

They also have next to no barbell collars. For the amount of money this gym costs the weight room should be one for the best in the area. I can say that unequivocally the Crunch in Farmington Hills has a superior weight room in every way. It’s a shame.

The good news is the facility is so large that even during peak hours I find that the gym floor isn’t too busy. When the parking lot is packed there are a lot of people in spin, yoga, pickleball, etc so the gym floor is often usable. So even if it looks completely slammed, you’re probably going to be able to work out without working in with someone. They’re also very kid friendly which is awesome.

Edit: I stand corrected. There is one weight rack by the cable fly machine on the wall that overlooks the pool and one near the dumbbells.

I’m paying almost $240 a month for a family membership, and it’s so not worth it. This location is incredibly dirty—it’s disgusting! The steam room always has tons of hair around, the bathrooms are filthy, and I never, ever see anyone cleaning anything. I’m seriously considering either calling the health department or swabbing some of the surfaces myself and sending a sample to a lab to see what’s growing all over this place, and then contacting the local news. Management should be embarrassed. Many reviews from months ago mentioned that this location is the dirtiest, and they’ve done nothing to fix it. Someone even got a bad infection. Are they waiting for a lawsuit before they start cleaning?

Also, for the amount they charge, you’d think they would offer more free classes, but no—you have to pay extra for the better ones. Oh, and the daycare is closed from 1-4:30 during the week and closes early on weekends. The hours are terrible, so I can never use it. Time to cancel my membership. For the safety of everyone, please clean your filthy gym! Management—if you can’t handle running this location, resign.

They advertise Life Time Fitness as a luxurious fitness club, but there is nothing luxurious about this location. It’s very outdated—could you please consider some remodeling?

Also, please stop responding to every review with ‘Please contact our team directly with the best way to get in touch with you.’ Instead, take action. People are already telling you what the issues are.

I spoke with the front desk they had me write a paper to the GM and told me nothing they could do.I know big part is my fault bringing my wallet with me and not really expecting anything from the gym. Staff is great. Change room and lockers are gross. I constantly have to throw in a towel inside before I place my items inside. I suspect I am not alone. Aside of customers experience, wouldn't the gym save money on extra towels laundry cycles and labor work if they consistently keep them clean.

This place is disgusting, if you attend in the AM at opening and the toilets are usually not cleaned from the day before. However I went during peak time (6 PM) and if this was my regular time I would honestly cancel my membership. This place was absolutely packed, like they shouldn't let anyone else join for a membership because it was unusable. The mens locker room was absolutely trashed. One of the toilets in the mens locker room had feces on the toilet seat. Really disgusting facility.

It’s the worst lifetime center I’ve ever went to. EXTREMELY BAD MANAGEMENT. We enrolled specifically for our kids, for the sport activities. We drop the kids in the kids area so they take them for the activities, and we emphasise to the care givers about the activities we reserved for them. Then after we do our exercise we discover that the kids have been all time in the kids room and they have not taken them to the sport activities. This happened more than 4 times in only 2 weeks. We complained about this several times and nothing happened. Extremely bad management, we are wasting our money and time in this location

Lifetime has reduced the basketball times and what is offered is usurped by the camps/daycare. Pickleball has taken a whole gym and is often not used but is blocked off 100% of the time for pickleball. Time to look for a new gym

It’s very sad that they only have one basketball court to play on but on the other hand, you can’t play on the basketball court because there’s kids playing for summer camp until 6 o’clock and that’s not fair to me and the others we pay a lot of money to not play on the basketball courts because of the kids we have to wait until 6 o’clock to play on the basketball courts, very unselfish and very unlikely And very disappointing

I have been a member here for many years. Recently, I found that their management is getting worse and worse. The attitude of the service staff is not good. Several of the cleaning staff just sit around talking when there are many things that need to be cleaned. I heard similar complaints in the locker room.

Angela, who runs the pickle balls very rude. They were in pickle ball leagues on Thursday nights, but she disrespectfully started to push one of my kids with a pickle ball net at about 520. And then told us we had to clear the other end of the court, which they weren’t even supposed to start using for another 40 minutes. Been a member at lifetime for close to 19 years. And I’ve never had somebody act so disrespectful to me or my guest. Definitely need to just give people a little bit more respect and not try to push people with equipment especially kids.

Some people working here are nice. Plenty amenities. Some other people working here need some education. Maybe some life experience too.

While at the Cafe, I asked for a pizza at 4pm on a Sunday, for my 3 year old daughter . The young girl at the counter smirked at me saying no food was available. Frustrating. Then continued in complaining to a colleague, gossiping about how awful of a client I was, how she woke up at 6;30am , how she only ate quesadilla today, how she’s so hungry. Guess what? So is my child!!

Better your attitude, I’m sure life will teach you some lessons when you grow up!!

Use to be a great place to workout but now its just an adult kindergarten with less than cleanliness in mind, a friend of mine picked up a staph infection there last summer. Most of the staff which is usually more in number than the patrons could use some diversity training to say the least. The place needs a total staff overhaul. Not worth the high cost!

I’ve been a member for about 18 months at the time of writing this and overall it’s been a great experience. I’ve been going to gyms for over 20 years (YMCA, Golds, Fitness19, LA Fitness and some private clubs) and seriously wonder if some of the people leaving negative reviews have ever been elsewhere (the bar is VERY low and LTF Novi is far above it).
In my experience, the staff from the locker room attendants all the way up to management has been approachable, helpful and pleasant.
I hired a trainer for a while and he was awesome. I’ve also asked other trainers questions when I’m trying to learn a new trick and they’re always helpful. Remember, they’re doing a job want to sell you their expertise so don’t be offended when they try.
Anytime I’ve seen behavior unbecoming of a public gym it’s ALWAYS a fellow member who are either oblivious, uneducated or abusing equipment and unfortunately that’s an epidemic and not at all unique to this brand or location.
You can certainly find a less expensive option but with everything that comes with the membership I don’t believe there’s better value out there.

Great facility with an ample amount of all kinds of equipment that you'd expect to find in a gym, plus more.

The indoor pool and hot tubs are amongst the nicest in the metro Detroit family of clubs. Basketball courts are also top notch at this location.

The staff is friendly and always a pleasure to see.

Unfortunately though, rules are not enforced here and employees are rarely present on the gym floor.

The weight room is in a near constant state of disarray, with weight plates, grips and handles scattered across the floor everywhere.

Even on the multiple occasions I've been the first person into the weight room at open, the place is never clean or organized. Used towels are left on machines overnight. Bench presses and squat racks are left with weights on. Barbells are left in the middle of walkways. Plastic bottles and used wet wipes are also left at machines for the members to take care of.

Besides people spilling coffee and energy drinks in an area that is supposed to be 'clear drinks only', gym staff doesn't do anything about people bringing large backpacks and duffle bags onto the gym floor which clog up an already messy area.

Multiple members also seem to feel that this is their own personal at home gym and will reserve multiple pieces of equipment at once by putting their sweaty towels over them and then walking away.

I've even been angrily confronted by a member for using a machine that nobody had been on for 5 minutes because it was part of their 'circuit' and I should've known better, despite there being no signs of a person using said equipment.

Few people wipe down machines after use, but gym etiquette isn't practiced, enforced or seemingly even encouraged here so it's best to wipe down your machines both before and after.

Overall, it's a nice facility with some nice staff, but seemingly nobody is willing to clean the place up or hold any members responsible for breaking the rules and junking the place up. Other lifetime locations are much better kept than this one. If you are new to gyms I wouldn't recommend this one, it is not beginner friendly.

This Location was one of the best, the most clean, & has amazing staff. I have been a regular member for 6 years now and I go every day, never complained once ! Recently it has become the worst:

1- They hold classes during peak times on the fitness floor, they occupy the middle of the fitness floor for 1 full hour. Class participants hold equipments from matts to dumbbells to steps for 1 hr. I am not sure what kind of gym holds classes on the fitness floor, during the busiest time and block other members from having access to what they have equally paid for: Access to fitness and workout equipments ! this not only ridiculous, this is unfair yet rude from whoever gave the instructor the green light to hold this class at this time. This is poor management ! Classes should be held in private studios with their own equipments and accessories!

See picture of how the dumbbells rack was looking like for a full hour and half (no joke, 1.5 hrs!!!!). This is happening every single day ! and the rack to the left was empty too ! Why? because the people who are taking that class are each holding on 2-3 sets of dumbbells. Let alone the speaker she brings with her because everyone is entitled to listen to her pick of music on top of the gym speaker music. Chaos !

2- They are running over-capacity. management should stop taking new memberships. Being greedy is gonna fire back because loyal members unlike seasonal members are gonna sooner or later leave without coming back because it has become extremely annoying ! wait times on machines are ridiculously long. gym is literally packed !

3- Barbell locks made in 1900, you need three men to squeeze it to fit on a barbell and most of them are outdated and broken ! Maybe someone should remind their purchasing department that it is 2022 and there are new models on the market !

4- Smelly & unclean bathroom !

They close at 11pm now, the basketball court is only a half court now, the pool closes earlier, you have to book classes on line, half of the machines are available…. But the cost is still the same. Smh. Don’t waste your money here; Powerhouse is 24 hours and a fraction of the cost.
