I’ve been coming to this gym with my family since I was 12, and now at 20, it’s still my go-to spot every summer. The outdoor pool might not be as big as the one at the Rochester location, but there’s something about this place that just feels right. I’ve watched it change over the years: new faces, new equipment, same familiar energy. People always point out that it’s smaller than other locations, but that’s part of why I like it. It’s not overcrowded, the staff actually recognize you, and there’s a sense of comfort here that bigger gyms can’t match.

The staff here is incredibly welcoming and professional! The lead personal trainer, Drew, and my trainer, Jerry, are both passionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely care about helping you succeed. They’re not just there for a paycheck — they’re invested in your progress. From day one, Drew and Jerry made me feel comfortable and confident, even though I knew nothing about the gym at first. Now I’m going every weekday, and the results have gone far beyond what I ever expected! Couldn’t recommend this place enough.

I have been a Lifetime member since before COVID, and I continue to love the environment and community it provides. The staff are always welcoming, friendly, and professional, and the positive energy is felt throughout the club. The group classes offered daily are excellent, and the trainers I’ve interacted with are all highly skilled.

Among them, Drew has had the greatest impact on my fitness journey. Having worked with several coaches both inside and outside of Lifetime, the results I’ve achieved with him have been unmatched. His expertise, professionalism, and dedication truly set him apart. Drew takes the time to tailor his approach to individual goals, ensuring steady progress and measurable results. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking a knowledgeable, motivating, and committed coach.

Pay a ton of money to not even have clean up wipes after, they have not had wipes in this facility for a couple weeks now. Completely unsanitary and unacceptable. Lifetime, when will you fix this? Do you think it's acceptable for someone to have all their sweat and fluids on a machine/area then the next person having to struggle or find a way to clean it without any clean-up materials? Even the cheapest gyms don't have this level of filth, you should be ashamed.

I have been a lifetime member for many years, but this year the personnel at the Shelby Twp location has been superb!
Kurt Brazil , concierge, has provided excellent service , including helping me to locate clubs when I travel and even warning (Lol) them I am coming! He has also allowed my guests to see the club, some have joined and a few are considering membership because of Kurt’s approach!
Billy Whitley is hands down the best personal trainer! Lifetime is lucky to have him! PT Gordon is always smiling and positive!
Abigail and Auxa in the Life Cafe are friendly helpful and make yummy shakes, and keep the cafe running smooth!
Thank you Lifetime-Shelby!

I was very impressed with this Lifetime! Kurt Brazzil was so helpful and really made me feel welcome. Everyone else was also super friendly, and the facilities were extremely clean. The best part was the kids club! They were so organized with different planned activities, they had something for all 3 of my kids in different age groups. I was very, very impressed. Also felt comfortable leaving my kids in great hands with the teachers who my kids really enjoyed. The pool (indoor & outdoor) was clean and the overall, my whole family had a blast.

Child care nightmare…BEWARE!. Child:Staff ratios regularly out of compliance with state regulations. They often form child groups that exceed the state mandated ratios by adding an additional 6-8 kids in a group, Supervisors neglectful in watching kids. During kid’s camp swim supervisors are responsible for watching kids when they get out of the pool and while the camp counselor goes to change. A child went back into the pool under their supervision and while his counselor was in locker room and supervisors blamed the camp counselor when he was changing in locker room, then they fired him. Money grab. No integrity. No honor. Inept and incompetent and unfit to run a child care program.

I've been a member for about 4 years. My experiences are all positive. I would say I do 90% Aquatics. I have found the pool to be clean and staffed with very nice people. I have noticed they have done a much better job at communicating down time and repairs via email and they have some new amenities within the entire gym. They've added a cold plunge, redid the shower stalls. My only gripes are they did remove the guest pass on weekends and they also didn't do the Pool Deck program which basically allows for anyone to join at any point and get into the outdoor pool deck. I hope they revisit that and see if they can restrict the amount of people outside. Other then that I appreciate the space they have and the people who make my swims enjoyable.

***Sandra is a personal trainer at this location. She keeps me motivated in and out of the gym . She makes workouts challenging but fun and her nutrition guidance has been a game changer. Sandra is supportive , encouraging and she genuinely cares about your progress.
***In addition the class instructors at this location are inspiring and supportive. Krista , Laura , JenniD , D’ann , Karen and of course Sandra , are my personal favorites as my go to classes. You can expect encouragement and enthusiasm from them all.

First off life time and other gyms need to stop having these kids everywhere! You have teens or younger in gym area not with parent in the way doing nothing!! Why do gyms have kids anyways??? I can understand in daycare or whatever some of us be serious about our health and you having these kids in exercise areas is insane to me lifetime while definitely be a gym for at least 17 and up!

I love lifetime but it’s getting out of hand with all the new charges for new members. $230 for 2 new members is outrageous. I have watched this gym nearly every other month swap locker rooms for renovations they should have done long ago. Members like myself that used to be with the diamond club know that paying more makes sense when new amenities are added but nothing is new just maintenance that they are now trying to work into the price of memberships.

I’ve been a loyal Lifetime Fitness member for years—even before moving to Michigan—and it’s been the one consistent thing I’ve relied on through major life changes. Unfortunately, my experience this past weekend was deeply disappointing.

My best friend was visiting from Texas, and I was excited to bring him along on a guest pass for a quick workout. When we arrived, I was told he couldn’t enter because the pools were at capacity. I explained that we had no intention of using the pool, and would simply be in the weight room for under an hour. Instead of offering a reasonable solution, I was met with a condescending tone and told he could pay $40 for a day pass.

This response was especially frustrating given that I already pay over $200 a month for a dual membership for me and my wife. It felt less like a premium club experience and more like being nickel-and-dimed without regard for loyalty or context.

I expected better from Lifetime—both in terms of flexibility and customer service. Sadly, this left a bad impression, and I’m now reevaluating the value of my membership.

Two months ago I called and spoke with Kurt Brazzal the supervisor to cancel the membership . he told me to cancel the membership through the life time app and taught me how to cancel it step by step over the phone . said that I have to pay for another month because the cancellation takes 30 days. I agreed to that. Now, after two months, I received an email saying that I have to pay .I called them today and spoke with Kurt supervisor again and he said that I have to pay again so that he can cancel the membership and he hang-up in an inappropriate manner. I don’t know how as life Time gym puts un professional and disrespectful person as a manager there

This gym has gone to complete garbage due to mismanagement and mistreatment of loyal members. After being a member of 15 years, they'll be forcing me to take my business elsewhere due to their unethical and shady business tactics - it's a shame as this was once a great establishment but corporate greed has and will be their downfall eventually- please consider other options before committing to lifetime, much better alternatives out there that won't take advantage of their customers like lifetime has been doing.

I am very disappointed with my recent experience at Lifetime Fitness, specifically involving two staff members, Eileen and Kayla, at the Pickleball courts. It appears that they are unfairly targeting Chaldean members, including myself and others in my community, by asking us to leave the courts without giving valid reasons. Meanwhile, other groups who are not Chaldean are participating in the same activities and are allowed to stay even after arguing, fighting, and causing disturbance at the courts.

This kind of inconsistent treatment feels discriminatory and unprofessional. All members should be treated with fairness and respect, I've had a membership with lifetime for over 5 years and never had this issue... until Eileen and Kayla took charge. I hope Lifetime Fitness takes this issue seriously and addresses it promptly so that everyone can enjoy their facilities equally.

My favorite gym,
But there are regular robberies in the men's locker room. Hard to believe until it happens to you. 165$ among other things were stolen from my bag in my locker. Another guy had his car keys stolen at the same time today, around 11:45 am ..... 2-4-2024. I had to file a police report of course.

Clearly Lifetime provides the most upscale gym setting in the area (no other has a steam room for example) which is why people pay the extra dollar to be a member. This specific locker room is being targeted for that exact reason. People with money, no cameras, ext.
That being said, it would be nice to see management implement an (increased) and reliable staff presence in the locker room to make sure thieves aren't checking as many lockers as they can, going through other people's belongings, and maybe getting lucky? Because the truth is that those lockers aren't fail proof, meaning they do not always lock correctly. (I've experienced this myself)
I hope management takes this seriously and puts in a little more effort toward increasing staff presence in the men's locker room, the members who pay top dollar deserve that ! 🙏

The sauna has been malfunctioning for YEARS every other Lifetime Location has a properly functioning sauna. Why doesn't Lifetime fix the sauna at its Shelby Township location??? Overall… great gym. Great gym program teachers (shout out to Kyrstyn and Devane!), great facilities, great staff within the child center (shout out to Evan!). The biggest issue with this location is the overall manager of the aquatics/kids center. For this particular part of the club, communication is scattered or non-existent. They randomly, at this location alone , decided to no longer allow children in the outdoor pool… again, no communication. The swim lessons we signed up for were decent, but we had 3 different teachers in a short period so inconsistent lessons and little progress. The birthday party workers were so sweet, but again, the manager didn’t share what the plan was or with any supplies. It was just a messy experience. The rest of the club is excellent, though!

Love the gym but disappointed they took down one of the two basketball courts. Basketball has pretty much been cut off for the majority of members. Between leagues and camps that shut the now only court down multiple times a week, full court games are often played allowing around 20 people to play and hold the court for hours. On top of that the cleanliness has been going down hill and amenities are often low or out of stock on the counters.

I have been a member since 2016 but am close to cancelling my membership due to the outrageous increases in price every year. I just came with my husband which I’m allowed 2 free guests every 60 days but they stated during this week due to increase in pool usage it’s an additional $40. I let the front desk know we were just coming to workout and not use the pool. I also did not receive any communication regarding this update via email or in the lifetime app. The fees and rules seem to always change to benefit them when you come into the gym with no notice

I'm not sure who thought it was a great idea to have deafening music pumping whilst trainers scream into microphones in 2 places in the gym at the same time, but that person should be fired. The studios used to be perfect for the intense training sessions where you could have someone screaming at you to pedal faster, and jump higher, but now those of us who just want to go work out on our own are subjected to this as well. I'm not old enough to care about the new pickleball courts and apparently I'm too old to find the obnoxiously intrusive alpha classes with people running all about the gym being chased by their amped up DJ in spandex onesie in any way appealing. So as you continue to raise the price on what once was a pretty chill and up scale health club, please stop trying to be an F45 or whatever else and keep the classes in the studios.

They have state-of-the-art equipment and a workout that suits anyone of all ages and levels. The pool area is gorgeous and the Aqua class with Bridgette is the perfect start to any day! The hot tub and sauna made the best ending to any work out, and of course, then a shake from the cafe. I really love how much time and effort is taken into making sure everything is extremely clean, especially the locker room. No water was left on the floor because someone is always keeping it nice. This gym has completely gone under. This is actually the first time I’ve had to type multiple reviews. $130 a month is fine if you actually have the equipment like Keiser, Sorinex, Rouge, Kabuki, to back up the price. The majority of all of techno gym equipment is over a decade old.

This summer has been a complete zoo. Members vaping in the middle of sets & body odor everywhere. I know operations does a great job trying to do their best but the crowds are excessive and don’t do anything .

Ultimate Hoops took a massive hit when pickleball took over courts. I already had a massive review about that.

Letting Jason go was a mistake. There is only so much a GM can do with all the corporate red tape but Bahram and his executives seem to only care about Minnesota, Boca Raton, NYC. This is the only lifetime that has actually felt like a gym and not a Scientology resort that marketing tries to push it to be. At of the end of the day we are there to workout, train, and sport.

I’m here almost everyday and my patience is severely tested more and more. I don’t blame the immediate staff this is a corporate issue and the way this gym is does not justify price ranges. Much better private facilities are available at cost.

Please get it together we are not happy

The place is poorly managed and especially the manager (or whoever is responsible to respond to claims) never gets back to you. Some buys are too “friendly” in the locker room, making really inappropriate “compliments”, if you know what I mean. But that’s probably because the manager has their back. Send a message about it, no ever acknowledged it or respond to it. There are two or three employees on the evening shift (it’s when I’m there) who always do a good job, but the rest of the staff is really not interested in the place. Probably short staffed too, but in 2023 that is everyone’s problem.
Anyway, makes it worth to drive 20 min away to the Rochester Hills location, to not have to put up with some of the stuff that happens in the locker room.

Clean, excellent customer service and lots of equipment and amenities to utilize. Really has everything...but sometimes, you don't want everything. Problem is, at Life Time, you are kind of stuck paying for everything (with some exceptions). And it's an expensive membership. It can also be a pain to get out of or put on hold.
But overall, if you have the money, these are great places to workout and enjoy things like basketball, pools (indoor and out) and rock climbing!
My only other complaint is that even though there is alot of workout equipment, during busy hours, good luck finding anything open except treadmills. 😅

I have been a mostly on member for many years. Suspended and cancelled my membership primarily due to Covid pandemic. I went to join again…not only is there a 50% increase in cost $129/month, there is an additional fee of $30 to use the pool. When I went to address this clearly in a pleasant tone not complaining, I just wanted to understand why the 50 percent increase in cost in membership along with even more money to use the pool. Zero sales pitch and I grudgingly accepted the cost of the gym membership but balked when they slipped in the pool cost at the end. At Shelby they could care less. Today at 10:00 am I went to speak to a membership advisor no one available in middle of the day??? ( that’s why i went at that time ) a woman at the front desk said you can quit and gave me a form. She ran me out so quick the form was not even filled out right. Let’s see if cancellation holds up. Buyer beware. My fault. They clearly only care about sales and clearly not service. If they can’t keep a lifelong “ lifetime member that’s on them not me.

You would think that a gym this high end would warrant a higher rating, right? Sadly, the best I can do here is three stars. I’ll get to what I like, but I want to get my complaints out of the way.

First off, good luck getting in your weight routine WITHOUT having to weight for machines. Especially during peak hours. Planet Fitness, the gym everyone likes to clown on, has two pec fly/delt fly machines, but Lifetime can apparently only afford one.

Second, for the price, the experience isn’t all that exclusive. Wanting to work out at branch that has a bathroom on the second level costs an extra $30/month (that was pretty much the only difference between here and the more expensive Rochester Hills location.) Parking is always crammed and the other nearby locations aren’t much better.

Third, the appointments in the pool and locker room area could be updated to not look rusted or outdated. Especially when this place brands itself as a “athletic club.”

So why am I a member?

First, this is literally one of two gyms in the area that can accommodate my spa circuit which would be inclusive with the membership.

Second, unlike the other gym that can accommodate my spa circuit, this one has an abundance of cleaning stations (the other had three - THREE - for the entire gym! We just got out of a pandemic and I don’t want to see another one!) I’m glad Lifetime has an abundance of cleaning stations.

Third, they do have yoga classes and for different skill levels. That’s a nice feature to have so one isn’t having to get a separate membership for that.

The Lifespa and Cafe are nice to have, but since they aren’t inclusive, I don’t have a particular opinion on it one way or another (if there was an incentive like a free 30 minute massage with a monthly renewal or a discount on coffee, I could feel differently.)

The best way I think the Lifetime experience could be better is if they expanded and found a location near M-59 and I-94 that could serve as a hub for Macomb, Chesterfield, New Baltimore, Clinton Twp, Mt. Clemens, and Harrison Twp as to perhaps help alleviate some of the congestion here. There’s no real competition for them, so will they rest on their laurels and be complacent, or will they work to make the experience better for those who are willing to shell out $100 (or more) a month to work out? I’d like to hope for the latter but time will tell.

$135 in cash was stolen from my locker around 10:45pm today (March 23rd of 2023).
I let the authorities know about this incident. Bunch on other guys had stuff stolen, I heard Fragrances, Cash, and Valuables.
I ask that there needs to be a better security system in the place.

My locker was open when I got off the swimming area with missing one pair of AirPods (which was found by the manager later on). I really plan to stay a member here, but things like that can really deter me away and many other members who really care about their valuables.

Please contact me if anything was found, or a month membership compensation can be granted for this incident.

I left my name and my phone number with the staff members, feel free to contact.

Thank you!

This gym puts profits over its members and basketball population. We are in the middle of basketball league and gym is set to close in the middle of it to install a pickleball court. Crazy how this gym picks profits yet only trades at $18.69 a share. Will be canceling. I’m not paying $130 a month and told I’m not allowed to play basketball whenever.

The photo of the men's shower area shows you what you need to know. I know this is a customer issue being this sloppy, but then the cleaning times should increase to prevent.

Just received an email about a 20 dollar increase next month. At the high price, clean should be the default. To be fair, workout area and pools are always clean. After showering however, the smell and sloppy area are not what you want to walk through.

Music is usually way to loud. I think it is something like 90% of the people there where headphones and I have to blast mine to drown out the sound. Needs to be turned down.

It would be nice if something could be done to prevent the kids from taking selfies in the mirror. Other people are in there and should not have to worry about being in pictures with a (cannot write the noun I want to use). In all seriousness however it is an issue and something should be done.

The staff are super friendly and greet you when you check in and the staff keep the locker rooms clean. I enjoy all of the class options and times. There is something to do for everyone whether it's a group class, treadmills or ellipticals to an endless area of weights and nautilus machines. I am a signature member so I also like that we can go to other Lifetime locations. So far the only thing that I do not like that you can't have the same guest visit with the guest passes given as a signature member. That guest cannot attend again until 60 days after their visit or else it's $25/day.

If you’re someone whose look serious about their training and not just going there to socialize and do whatever then this place has a few treats for you:

- Extremely busy, I’ve never seen a gym with the weight training area so jam packed, there’s barely space to stand during the evening hours it’s kind of comical.

- tying into the last point, because its so comically packed, you simply are not going to do what you had in mind before coming, and many times my muscles get cold before I can get to use the machine or weight I need because everything is taken at all times.

- Quantity of machines and disorganization. What kind of “premium” gym has 1 .. I repeat only ONE of each machine or training contraption, like seriously one chest fly machine? One decline? One incline? Don’t get me started on the cables, the benches or the dumbbells scattered all around…and let’s not talk about the group of 5 permbois hogging all the benches at once every Monday..

Meanwhile there’s a huge hardwood floor area so much wasted space and about 10 floor mats all taken, in case you compromise and give up on all the taken cables and fly machines and you want to just do some dumbbell flys on the ground, yeah good luck, about 5 people with the same struggle already beat you to it!

If you’re just here for the basketball court, the trillion cardio machines, and all the amenities then you’ll have a blast, but if weightlifting is a meditative activity to you, you will leave this place feeling worse most times.

Place has fallen far since the pandemic. Lots of great amenities: basketball, rockclimbing, pools. It's too bad you can hardly ever use any of it because the place is either constantly inundated with children or lacks the staff to operate them. Of course, their prices are higher than ever despite half the benefits you used to get.

I had a very bad experience with Dakota Lance. He gives me wrong information so I get into the club. Back in July when I joined the club I asked him if I can add my parents in the same account. He told me that I can do that as long as they have same address. Now I want to add my parents he said I can’t do that because of the age limit!

After the second day of using my 7 day pass, I wanted to give my last criticism for those who are looking for a gym that they really want to pursue a healthier lifestyle and get the best bang for their buck. It is nice that they have more of a variety of equipment then other gyms, but I just can't justify it to be honest. for 100 a month, its pretty steep, but you do get towels, showers, access to the basketball court, steam rooms, sauna, pool access, and access to the jacuzzis. Which if you use all these things when you go to the gym, it is definitely worth it. But for me who shows up in the mornings and only lifts and leaves, I don't see the worth of it being 100 a month. I currently have a membership at crunch fitness and I go in the mornings and very few people are there which is nice and I have access to pretty much any machine I want. Not to mention there are plenty of benches for free weights and there's plenty of space and I only pay 26.95 a month which is a steal. When I come to lifetime in the morning, Its surprisingly busy and getting a bench to use free weights is sort of difficult. And when you do get a bench to use free weights, it' almost like you're on top of each other with how close you are to someone else. I can't imagine what it's like during 5:30-8:00pm during primetime hours and I really don't want to wait and see. Not to mention the locations are scarce. Unfortunately I do not plan on getting a monthly membership. Should I also note that if you're looking for a gym based on machine variation, space of equipment, and location, you can get three gym memberships for less then the cost of one month at lifetime. For me personally, I could justify spending 80 dollars for three memberships combined because when traveling for work or going out of state days at a time, I can find one gym out of the three nearby as opposed to lifetime. Hope this helps for those looking for their perfect gym.

This is the best gym you will ever go to. This place is so amazing that I never want to leave. Hitting the gym then downing a shake and going into the pool is awesome, I got ripped and huge here. You can have lunch and watch tv as you rest or even get a massage
And of thats not enough get a makeover downstairs.
This gym will change your life as it did mine

The management of this place sucks quite honestly. Whenever you email with a question, they don't bother answering. Try calling them? If you're able to get one of them on the phone, they will still be rude to you. Place is not 24 hours, it is quite dirty, there are no towels available almost all of the time.

This gym has terrible communication with its members when they book the basketball gym for events. They don’t send out emails whenever the gym is booked, we brought around 8 people to play basketball and then after 10 minutes of playing they had to close both sides. One side for some paddle ball fake tennis game and the other for a reservation. I understand people can reserve but if it’s booked send out an EMAIL to your PAYING members because this happens way too often
