The Troy location is greatly neglected and lacking in the basic service of cleanliness, towels replenished, personal hygiene products refilled. I'm there at 5:00 daily and the locker rooms are always dirty, and the lockers have not been reset. When I show up most of the lockers are already full and nothing is in them. The upstairs workout area is never reset – including picking up towel, water bottles, emptying the garbage and restacking the weights. This club is a disgrace. The general manager is in denial, misinformed or delusional if he thinks there is no problem. As a member of LTF for 25 years I know this is unacceptable standards that other locations would not tolerate.

Was my first time at the cafe today and I wasn’t sure what to get. I approached a staff member, Mohammed, and was only met with kindness and respect. I felt very welcomed and taken care of. It was a small gesture but those go a long way, especially if it’s your first time anywhere.

This club has gone downhill under manager. The facility is dirty, chaotic, and poorly managed. Staff member D*o*n has used disrespectful and even offensive language toward members, yet management ignores it.
Members deserve respect and professionalism — not favoritism and neglect. Life Time corporate should step in to restore standards here.

4.5/5 stars.

Editing my previous review which has evolved over past months. This lifetime has everything now. Cold plunge with crystal clear water and blue LEDs, sauna that gets really hot, the standard nice upstairs gym you expect of a LT, new lockers and showers, and a lifetime work place.

Friendly staff, and kids academy staff knows your kids names by heart. The infant care has been absolutely wonderful and takes good care of babies. Barely any crying compared to many other amenities elsewhere.

If you have kids a lifetime membership is worth the cost no question. Insane value.

Every staff member is nice except maybe 1 or 2. I’ll spare them from this review. Literally all of the rest are exceptional friendly people.

The hot tub is a little less hot than I’d expect, or maybe something is wrong with me. The hot tub/cold plunge gutters are the older design compared to some lifetimes so maybe that affects the flow/filtration efficiency. Idk. Cafe layout not that optimal, but there’s the workspace and new lounge area in the entrance to chill quietly.

Either way this lifetime has made leaps of progress this summer.

If you have considered it, past member returning or are a lifetime member looking to move to troy, trust me this one gets a green light. (Lifetime member since 2001)

As soon as you walk in it feels completely different in a good way.

Half of the water jets on the hot tub do not work and the other ones barely work. Compared to the other Life Time facilities the one in Troy is probably functioning at 20% capacity. When I asked the front desk about it they said that's how it normally runs. I expect more for $150 a month

Twice I have tried to register at this location and got heckled and kicked out .After which when I brought my dad a 75 year old as an adult guardian to show him the treatment , he was ridiculed and told to leave the premises.Outright case of racisim ,poor service and lack of credibility.

For an athlete who has trained at various professional gyms across the world this was sad and disrespectful .

The manager Doug is notable accomplice to this bad situation.

Gym is solid — nice cardio equipment and I rarely find that machines are broken for more than a week before being fixed, and I have found the staff at the front desk and cafe to be super friendly…but some of the trainers are obnoxious. I’ve had trainers kick me off equipment (not during a class - just because they wanted to use it with their client), show total disregard for members’ personal space (nearly brushing into you mid set and setting up with a client directly in your personal space with abundant space nearby), and generally show ZERO gym etiquette: they don’t clean equipment after using with clients, don’t re-rack weights, and act as if the non-client members are a nuisance. I used to manage a gym — you CAN and SHOULD do better.

I’ve been a member for about 9 months now. It’s a great gym. I mostly take group exercise classes and love the instructors. When I do use the gym equipment I never have an issue waiting for a machine. Sometimes the free weight area gets crowded. The locker room is clean and has all the amenities you need. Front desk staff are friendly. But I especially love Lifetime for the kids academy; it’s huge. My previous gym had a tiny room for kids. At lifetime there are lots of options for the kids to play. We’ve also done swim lessons and the instructors are knowledgeable.

This gym seriously thinks it’s something special, but the customer service is a straight-up joke.
The staff at Life Time in Troy act like they’re doing you a favor just by existing. You ask for help and they either ignore you, give you attitude, or act completely clueless. I’ve been to way cheaper gyms where people are actually respectful and helpful—this place just hides behind a fancy building and overpriced memberships.

It’s all fake smiles and zero effort. They treat regular members like we’re beneath them, unless you’re some influencer or rolling in with a Rolex. For a place that charges this much, you’d expect professionalism and actual service, not people who look annoyed when you ask a question.

The worst part is they really think they’re “premium” or “top-tier.” Nah. It’s just expensive with terrible service. Definitely not worth the money. Save yourself the headache.

We absolutely love the Kids Academy at Life Time Fitness Troy! The staff is amazing—so friendly, caring, and truly dedicated to making every visit special. They took the time to get to know our kids and acclimate them to the new environment when we joined. The first couple times our kids had a very hard time but the staff continued to try and our kids now love going.
We’re especially grateful for Hana, Taylor, Makenzie, Anika, and Chris. They go above and beyond to create a fun, safe, and engaging environment for the kids. The variety of activities, from arts and crafts to active play and learning games, keeps my children excited to come back every time. It’s such a relief to know they’re in such great hands while I work out. The Kids Academy has been a game-changer for our family!

I wish I could give Zero to this facility! Just beware future customers of this fitness club! These guys are soooo disorganized and they repeatedly cancel your classes and in some cases they do that without informing you! You will ended up finding out after your have driven all the distance to the club! I had one case of cancelation this week as well as other cancelllations weeks before. I had been scheduled for one fitness program with a coach through their app and the coach did not show up and they even did not came to inform me. I do agree with some previous honest reviews about this facility as being so disorganized and lacking professional behavior. When I complained about my classes repeatedly being cancelled by them one of concierge team members told me if you want I can cancel your membership !! Excuse me?!? Is this the way you treat a member of yours who is kindly asking you for assistance and is unhappy ?!? They do not even have manners and professionalism towards their members who are actually their customers; the ones who already are paying a lot for their Lifetime Fitness Memberships !!!

Can reception ladies from kids club be a little bit kind to parents? Two ladies said parents can’t stay with their kids. I understand. However, if they said that in a little bit kind way, I would appreciate it a lot, cause my 4 year old kid was also listening to them and then did not want to stay there. My first time trial in life time kids club was a failure. (April 5, 11am in Troy Michigan).

My home gym is Canton but with the construction I have been visiting this location and WOW!! Your company wants to up my membership by $10 so I will now be paying $240 a month. The women’s locker room stalls are nasty!! Every stall had toilet paper all over the ground. 2 toilets had feces on the actual seat. Every trash bin full and every changing room had dirty towels every where. Maybe I have just been spoiled with the cleanliness of canton and Novi but this was disgusting.

Horribly run and totally unconcerned staff - following the lead of the general manager, Doug. Complained for years about unscheduled events in the lap pool that caused me to miss workouts. Last straw was when my leg was grabbed and I was kicked out of the pool to make room for 4 children swim lesson that was unscheduled and did not show up on the app. Front desk admitted they could not figure out how to keep the app updated for spontaneously scheduled events (money grab at the expense of members).

I have cancelled my membership and now swim at Oakland University. World class swim facility, similar hours for the lap pool, very friendly student staff, app is updated as to events happening - and I’ll save about $1,000 per year compared to Life Time.

If you use Life Time just for swimming like me - think about OU instead.

I've been going to Lifetime Troy for about a year now, and am very pleased with the facility overall! Fully stocked gym with a wide variety of equipment for whatever type of workout your into. Also lots of studio classes for whatever you're into. I really appreciate that there is an effort to enable families to come to the gym together with a family locker room, lessons for kids and the kids club as well.

I also highly recommend Storm Newton as a personal trainer for anyone looking to reach their fitness goals. I've been training with him for about 6 months and he has helped me come quite a ways from where I started. He is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled, and also incredibly motivating and supportive. He has helped me achieve real results and continues to push me to my limits in a positive and encouraging way.

Honestly not a terrible gym but the only issues i’ve ever had was with the staff. The most recent was with the front desk lady who was so rude to me when she saw I have Gympass and used my daily use at a different club. I completely would’ve understood that and been on my way but she decided to add in the fact that I am not a “real member” of the gym and that those were the consequences of me choosing to pay less money for the club through gympass. Caught me by surprise when she said that because I pay more for Gympass than the Troy location membership price, first of all, and second, I’ve been going to Lifetime locations for over 5 years and she tells me I’m not a “real member”. She was very very rude and used a condescending tonality. Not professional at all. I have no idea how she’s allowed to treat, not even members, but other people in general like that while she’s a “manager”. I thought Lifetime was about positivity, respect, and pushing each other towards bettering one another. Troy is a big thumbs down for me.

Our family really enjoys the Lifetime experience. As I skimmed some of the other reviews, I think the difference might be that we are coming from a family perspective.

I use the children’s play area and the different classes for my child and I find it well worth the value. Yoga is okay and Zumba is pretty fun.

At the time that we visit, there are always plenty of machines and the staff is amazingly helpful to us. We love visiting the café and finding a quick snack as well as enjoying the cucumber water.

We recently started swim lessons and I will tell you that the swim instructors are bar none! I highly recommend this women instructors.

I can, however definitely admit that I have left voicemail messages in the past that have not been returned. Typically I have to call back and get someone on the phone.

I think it’s important to keep in mind what you were looking for in a health club. Family versus single status may make a difference at this location as well as overall goals.

Rejoined the membership in Jan. for kids swim class. In Feb., we had an issue with kid center and reported to the general manage. The manager refused to clarify our questions and stated that the case was closed. He mentioned if we don’t feel comfortable, we don’t have to come here since this private corporate not public school. I made a cancellation request on Mar. 2 and last day of membership on Apr. 1 due to 30-day cancellation policy. When we came in for swim class on Mar. 10, then realize that the membership was cancelled on Mar. 6 without any notification. Really unsatisfied service from management and much worse experience compared to the time when we were members at the same facility before pandemic.

If you’re thinking of joining this gym, just don’t. it’s not worth the hundreds of dollars every month. The amount of issues I have had at my experience at lifetime is astronomical. For starters, I have been “perved on” and looked at by multiple men ranging in ages. I talk to lifetime and they won’t do anything about it because they want the money from their memberships. Also, the amenities are never open, despite paying so much damn money. The waterslides, rock, climbing, and many other things are only open around six hours out of the entire week!! Are you kidding me! Not to mention the place is disgusting. If i had kids, there is no way I would let them out of my sight at this place, especially in the locker rooms. Please take into consideration safety and logistics when making a decision about this place.

Currently a member here and definitely thinking about quitting. I’ll list my issues as concisely as possible, as many others have already hit upon the most notable problems that have me looking towards the door.

1. Gym etiquette is non-existent. Trainers and patrons alike do no re-rack weights, clean equipment, or even bother to replace dumbbells in the proper locations.

2. Obnoxious classes (scheduled during peak hours) take up all the squat/deadlift platforms. The trainers in charge feel the need to blast bad music on their personal speakers while clients use these racks for….assisted pull-ups? Got it, makes perfect sense

3. As many have stated, the staff is mostly checked out. The snack bar is especially bad, normally 2-3 employees there just gossiping and killing time. Trainers schedule classes and hog valuable machines, while often instructing patrons incorrectly. Heard one tell a gentleman not to use his legs when he benches. Completely incorrect and foolish.

Overall, if you’re looking for an overpriced, dirty space to work out where gym culture is nonexistent, this is the place for you

I've only used this gym for powerlifting workouts, so I haven't used the other amenities like the pool nor have I participated in any of the classes. So my review is 100% based on my experiences doing my workouts in the gym.

Pros:
- Lots of squat racks/deadlift platforms. If you go in early in the morning, there might be the Alpha classes going on that use up some of them, but I've never been kicked off a squat rack.
-No wait time for most machines, but once again, I always go in early. If someone is using a machine I need, I can easily work around it and come back to it later.
- It's clean and it smells clean. Zero body odor smell. People who don't think it's clean have clearly never been to some of the other gyms in this area that smell awful and leave your hands grimy.
-No contract!

Cons:
- Only one set of 2.5lb plates...and I think someone hid/stole those. It's impossible to progressively overload bench press/overhead press without 2.5lb plates, so I bring my own.
- The hip thrust machine is really popular and trying to set up a barbell for hip thrust is nearly impossible. If you're doing heavy barbell hip thrusts, the plyo blocks slide on the floor and there isn't a way to get the benches over to a platform. There are specialized hip thrust blocks that could probably solve this.
-No gym bags allowed, but you can bring a drawstring bag. I managed to find a bag that fits powerlifting shoes, belt, straps, water bottle, protein shake, etc. but it is a little annoying.

The only thing keeping this lifetime from being 4 stars is the abysmal basketballs they offer at the lone basketball court. With the amount of money we spend every month you’d think they could provide basketballs that don’t look like they were picked up from the side of the highway!

Nice facility, BUT save your money!
I’ve been coming here for 6 years now and this has easily been the lowest quality the gyms ever been. Save your money and go elsewhere. Many of the reasons why I joined the gym in the first place are no longer there, basketball courts are VERY rarely open as on numerous occasions they are taken up by children birthday parties/events or pickle ball. The club is no longer 24/7 and you will find that there is a lack of workout machines yet the membership prices have climbed significantly higher to over $100/person. Even the cleanliness of the bathrooms is very low. On top of that their app or site doesn’t mention anything about closing doors at 9:30 pm so when I drove over to get a quick run in at the treadmill I was told to leave. An absolute waste of time to drive all the way there and be told to rudely leave. The 3 star rating is fair because it does offer a sauna, steam room and quality workout equipment however all these things stated above are more than true as you will see in many of the comments below.

I joined lifetime about 8 years ago. I was so scared to leave my babe in the child care. [ I even cried the 1st few times- I was a 1st time mom that never left her babybean]

Taylor Wade was so kind and understanding.. she calmed my nerves and assured me she will personally make sure my littles were safe! She did just that!! She is amazing with my kids and ALL the kids.

Since then, I have gone to other LTF's kids academy, and I can say TROY is one of the best. The staff goes above and beyond... it's very organized, unlike some of the other club. TROYS ACADEMY is our top favorite! My kids throw a fit when we go to other clubs.

One thing that stands out the most is the way they handle the kids' misbehaving at the busiest times (and obviously not busy times). Very calm yet firm and still loving.

Nothing makes me smile more when I see the staff deal with a hurt child. Again, showing so much love and care.

Doug, Rena ,Taylor Facca, Hana, Bianca and Katherine are all amazing! LTF TROY is so lucky to have a wonderful staff.

One thing is I wish the hours were longer on weekends!

I wanted to rave about the summer camp. Again, leaving my kids all day freaked me out. They did a great job and made my work day run so smoothly, knowing my kids were well cared for.

Front desk is always friendly. Jordan is so personable. Great asset to lifetime!

The locker room is well maintained! Unfortunately, there are SOO many pig members, but I think the staff does a good job keeping up! Sue [ I think that's her name] is a hard worker.

Towel desk employees are always smiling and welcoming! Same as cafe..

Upstairs is always clean and maintained. I am a signature memeber, and I really enjoy the classes. Gerald, Marcus, Hilary, Kelly and Erin are great teachers!! I never go to regular classes anymore.

Although, I miss Jessie!! He was a great GM. It's very sad to see he is gone!
I believe promoting Doug as the new GM was a great move!! He is always present around the club. I feel he will do amazing things for the gym's future!

Great gym with many commodities that I'm not that familiar with yet. The basketball court is great for any formal game or just a quick one. You can bring your own basketball or they let you borrow one from them.

My experience at Lifetime Aquatics at Troy has been very disappointing. This place has proven to be a complete waste of time and money. they don't respect their customers' time, they fail to stick with the swimming lesson schedules they provide, they constantly change swimming trainers, and their Aquatic supervisor is rude and disrespectful. To make matters worse, the management's failure to follow through on their promises has left me feeling completely ignored and undervalued as a customer. I would strongly advise anyone considering this facility to look elsewhere for their kids aquatic fitness needs.
If I could rate this place with less than 1 star, I wouldn't hesitate to do so.

This place is terrible for people who want to play basketball, all summer I have to deal with the kids taking up the entire court space and when that’s over and the kids are gone they want to hold a meeting on the pickle ball court to conduct interviews and then shut down the basketball court which is located right by it. Why in the heck do you have to use a pickle ball court as a interview room when they have plenty of offices and a conference room that they can use, I feel like a second class citizen when I pay $150 a month and they say I can’t use the court for such a trivial reason, a joke health club much better off spending your money elsewhere stay away!!!

Over priced for Not being 24/7 anymore, you only have access to one gym you used to get access to all in any location. It’s changed for the worse. The other amenities aren’t even worth it anymore as parents have allow their children to turn them into playgrounds and zoos. Not even an escape anymore it’s a stress room. I’m cancelling my member and just using one of the cheaper gyms. I miss the 24/7 gym; the events of 2020 really ruined everything let’s be real. They really should lower the prices $129 for a gym that’s not 24/7 but has a pool? I can pay way less at la fitness and they have a pool and aren’t 24/7 either. Or I can get a membership to anytime and go 24/7 or planet fitness or crunch are 24 hours during the week. Don’t get me started on the number of complaints I used to file about the childcare stuff involving treatment towards the children in their care. Don’t waste your money here.

This place is constantly a disaster. There are about two-three employees that actually keep the upstairs clean (the early morning people) otherwise it’s a disaster in the gym. The weekend employees aren’t friendly and don’t ever clean the upstairs gym part. We pay a lot of money for this membership and it’s a shame that management allows their employees to put in such minimal effort. Especially when the weekend workers just hangout outside the locker rooms chatting the entire time when there’s a lot of work upstairs that could be done to keep this gym as neat and welcoming that it is on weekday mornings.

For the first time in all my years of going to lifetime we weren't rudely thrown off the basketball court by an unruly employee. The lady who runs Pickle ball, Tokiko, was very nice and allowed us to finish our games and worked with us to ensure that we played our allotted time on Saturday morning. We older guys look forward to our one day of basketball and Tokiko made sure we enjoyed ourselves. Thanks again! Hopefully going forward Lifetime can make surw that the 8-11am slot on Saturday morning isn't taken away for some other reason!

I loved this place at first but the shine has worn off. I agree with other reviews here that people sit on machines on their phones not working out. Lots of high school gym bros after school. I try to register for classes on the app but half the time I'm told the registration window is closed but to date, no one can tell me what the registration window is.

What's really disappointing is that LT is in the process of updating the cardio space, which means for the past two months the cardio options are cut in half, but not my membership fees. There's no timeline on when the new machines are coming, so I try to go on off-peak times just to be able to get a machine. I'm definitely going to look into other gym options in the area.

It doesn't have the feel of a high end luxury club. It feels more like a hangout for high school students after school. I've repeatedly seen members throwing weights, making loud piercing noises, slamming weights on machines, and there's never any staff around to say or do anything about it, despite there being signs on the wall clearly stating not to drop/throw weights. Many people are found sitting on machines playing with their smartphones, not letting others work in with them. It wouldn't be hard for administration to reinforce courteous and respectful gym etiquette.

Is this a gym or tutor time? Every single time i come on the weekends there’s a birthday party on the basketball court. I only come here for basketball and it seems to never be available. Not to mention they took 1 court away for pickle ball already. Next time i come and court is being used for something other than ball membership is cancelled!

The high price of membership does not cover full access for some areas. Pickel ball always booked by some one for additional costs . Basket ball is always crowded . Swim lanes 80% booked always for classes in high prime time . Very limited access and $200+ for a family is worthless .This is not full access club for what you pay . My kid always return with disappointed for not getting access .

This location is unusable. Basketball courts are always closed or taken over by some kind of summer camp or class. Pools are crowded and constantly reserved for swimming clubs and kids. Worst gym I’ve ever been to. They charge over a 100 dollars a month for facilities that are rarely available and bad quality. Don’t come here. Life time fitness is high priced garbage.

I went here for a birthday party for my cousin's son (Odin). For those unaware: they apparently do reservations for parties and such? I was completely unaware myself since, I'd never heard of this place before the invite. As such, this review will not be specifically about the gym.

The room the party was located in was pretty much a basketball court split in half- one for basketball, and the other has a rock-climbing area. The divider was solid black, and reached just far enough down so nothing really rolled under there like the square scooters or balls that, if I'm remembering correctly, the gym provided. Staff was regularly checking in and was very friendly to us, which was definitely nice.

As for the rock-climbing area: the workers were lovely, the equipment was secure, and I had an amazing time (especially while watching relatives and fellow-birthday-party goers try it out).

Overall, I had a wonderful time. Staff was pleasant, the area we were in was clean, fun, and safe, and the party was a blast. I could see the gym area from where we were at, and this place seemed like an amazing place to work out. Unfortunately, as I don't live anywhere near Troy (it was around an hour drive for us), I likely won't be returning to this place, but if I lived closer, I'd definitely check it out!

And no, I still don't know how my cousin managed to do this. Was fun either way!
