MECA is unique in that it is really a fitness wellness “gym” that focuses on assuring perfect form, working within your abilities, and staying focused on your goals which includes nutrition. The trainers are well educated, experienced, and give you the energy you need to help you achieve your goals. I started will the need to finish my recovery from injuries. We focused on full body balance, nutrition , and overall health and wellness. We then moved into building strength and transforming into greater lean muscle mass. I have been in many of the gyms in Grand Rapids including group training, CrossFit, ymca, etc and the program they provide ranks as the best. And for those that aren’t comfortable walking into the gym for the first time, you will be greeted with a smiling trainer, a few others training at handle time as you, and you won’t have to wait to get on the machine, the weight you want, or feel like your in a crowd. And when you’re done with each session they make you a protein shake!

I trained with Noah, workout schedule was 3 days a week.

I’m primarily an action sports/motocross athlete, I ride and race a lot. In our sport they say being in shape is your best insurance policy.

Working with Noah and the MECA team allowed me to push myself in new areas that would have been previously considered dangerous and reckless, I can’t tell you how many “close calls” I had that I walked away from safely because of my physical ability to react/recover instantly.

Couple that with the increased capacity for overall workload and endurance as well as the fire environment at the gym itself

I can tell you with confidence the MECA crew does not miss.

Easily one of the best decisions I've made to achieve my fitness goals was working with MECA! This isn't just another gym—it's a place where you actually achieve your goals. The trainers are all phenomenal and I was able to work with all of them during my ~6months training. The team at Michigan Elite Conditioning for Athletes is top notch! I'm far from "elite" or even very athletic at this stage of life, but MECA put together a great plan that delivered results. Training with Noah has made such a positive impact on my life. After a back injury 5 years ago and then a botched surgery, I was left with a nerve injury with severely atrophied right leg, daily pain, limited mobility and quickly deteriorating quality of life. After lots of pain medicine, several rounds of physical therapy, lost hope and limited improvement, I was referred to MECA by my physical therapist. When I had my first assessment, I could not do foundational functional movements, bending, squatting, standing up, sitting up without pain. I was skeptical that strength training would help reduce the pain and put me on the track to getting my life back. I can say after 7 months training with Noah, I am on now able to complete daily tasks easier, bending, lifting, walking, and even getting back to activities that I so enjoy like pickleball that seemed so far out of reach.

Noah is extremely professional, detail oriented, encouraging, attentive to how my body is responding to our weekly exercises and is quick to adjust, demonstrate and give clear instructions to make sure that I am performing each exercise without risk of injury. I am impressed by his knowledge (and much diligence and patience) in evaluating how to build back the foundational mobility that I had lost and being careful to make sure that I am building strength without further injuring my back before moving onto more challenging exercises.

Frequently I’ve had to had exercises adjusted, or removed because of flareups-- he is quick to pivot, quick to listen and suggest new stretches or modalities that enable me to keep making progress. I cannot recommend Noah enough! Truly worth the long term investment.

I came to MECA with chronic neck and back pain. After a review of my goals and careful assessment of my physical condition an individualized workout prescription was created to correct my muscular imbalances.
After training for 6 months with Liz I have been 95 percent pain free. Training with Liz has been nothing short of amazing. She has the unique set of gifts as a trainer that set you at ease as you train while keeping you motivated. She has a great depth of knowledge to educate you as to the “why” you are training in a particular way. This allows her to train anyone from the high school athlete, high level D1 athlete, to a 47 year old guy with neck pain!
I highly recommend Liz if you want to achieve your goals and see results.

Everyone says that they are the best, that may not always be true but Michigan elite conditioning for athletes is true to its name. They are truly ELITE. I have been training with Bobby and his staff pretty much since the start of the year and I have to say the only thing that I wish was that I started sooner. I spent the last 12 years on the sidelines and couches. I can say that I was out of shape and had low energy. Bobby and his crew put me back in the game and kept me working. Always challenged me with workouts and kept me on task with my nutrition and weekly goals. I would 100 percent recommend people to go to MECA and watch their own transformations happen right before their eyes. The environment there is better than anywhere else. All the trainers encourage you during workouts and are always there to answer questions. No one there looks down on you, they only do that when they lend a hand to help you up off the floor after your workout. If you want to take control of your life and your health go to MECA you wont be disappointed.

UPDATE:
I have been working with Liz ever since I came back to MECA after a shoulder injury. I had gained weight and had lost ROM in my shoulder and had a good amount of pain. Since working with Liz I have regained that ROM. She has been helpful and upbringing throughout the workouts and always manages to make me smile. I still stand by what I said in my previous review. MECA is hands down the place to go. They will take care of you and treat you right. Anytime you have a question they are their to answer it. Give them a chance, you will definitely be glad you did.

I can’t say enough good things about meca. They have helped me get closer to my performance and nutrition goals. I have had a lot of success with them. I have been training with Sean for 2 months and he has been great. Well maintained, fully equipped gym floor outfitted with everything necessary to reach my fitness and rehab goals. Trainers are knowledgeable, friendly, and highly competent. Head trainers performs assessments. You then pick a trainer based on your package/needs/schedule. I was trained by Chris. Chris clearly has passion for understanding how the human body moves and performs. Assisted in the rehab of my shoulder following a labrum repair. I am very satisfied with my progress. Started the program unable to complete a round of golf or lift overhead luggage without significant pain. Can now do both of those things and more easily. I have also shed several percentage points of body fat. The programs are expensive. You get what you pay for.

i came here due to a 30 year medical auto accident related struggle. i had been through a novel full of nutritionist, food programs ( which i knew it wasn’t what i was eatting) , and physical therapist ( both on land and in the water). i came to MECA as i saw it as a last resort to find a key to a huge medical problem . i am just ended my fourth month at MECA i am over 30 pounds down, but it isn’t the weight i was as much as concerned about but the lymphatic fluids consuming my body as well as weight. my gait is improving, endurance, lab results look wonderful and improved and we are setting up a long term home program i can do to keep my medical issues under control. the nutritionist and trainer listen to my physical concerns and adapt my program as much to those concerns but push you forward ( just maybe down a different path) in the meantime. i have also found this is giving me emotional strength for a new focus on my spiritual and inner self as a whole. thanks to meca for not giving up on me the first day i walked in! my doctors have been so pleased with the results i have gotten here as it isn’t a cookie cutter approach but a personal caring investment in my health and physical well being.

I’m a recent transplant that has been a gym rat for 10+ years. As an endurance athlete, kettlebell enthusiast, martial artist, and glutton for punishment I was looking for a gym to call home. A gym that would help me prepare for a 50-mile GORUCK Starcourse. I’m happy to say that I found what I was looking for and more.

My first impressions of MECA were that the facility was clean, the equipment is modern and well kept, and the staff were all approachable and friendly. These factors alone had me interested in trying out one of the fitness packages.

How it went down: After committing to engaging in a program, I was set to meet with Bobby for an assessment. I’ve been in similar situations before but this time was different. Not only did Bobby take my measurements, evaluate my mobility and flexibility, we also talked about my goals and how nutrition can help me achieve them. In short: I received a fitness program and a nutrition program to pair with my fitness goals. These programs are not by any means a cookie cutter approach. We make adjustments as we go based on what’s working and what isn’t working. As an analyst, I absolutely appreciate the scientific approach in identifying strengths and weaknesses with the goal of continuous improvement!

How is this being achieved: While fully supported by Bobby and Bryan, I have the privilege of working with Liz AKA Lizzy McGuire at 6am each training session. Liz is great: Liz is energetic and positive. Liz and I are super focused on the daily sessions while having fun and engaging in witty banter. Liz makes sure my technique is legit and encourages me to push hard with every rep. I often walk away from these 6am sessions feeling pumped, happy, mentally stimulated, and at peace. Most recently, we had a soulful conversation that lasted the entire session. Before leaving, Liz and I stood outside soaking in the crisp air and enjoyed a moment of peace and positivity. Liz is dope, if you get a chance to work with her you will not regret it. BUT she’s mine at 6am!

Caleb was my main trainer throughout the entire process and was there to motivate me and give me a kick in the rear when needed. I started this journey as a 55-year-old man who was experiencing debilitating hip pain and overall muscle weakness.

As my hip’s pain progressed from annoying to extreme, I visited my orthopedic surgeon and requested a hip replacement. He took x-rays and told me I was not a candidate for that surgery. He said, “I was too young, and the hip joint was not bone-on-bone.” I was in such disbelief that I offered to pay him cash for the surgery. That is when he told me a hip replacement may NOT solve my problem. My surgeon suggested I see a pain clinic. I agreed and made an appointment. Talked to a pain doctor and got a shot directly into my hip socket. I was pain-free…for one day. After that one day, the pain got steadily worse.

A colleague had suggested I get a free consultation at MECA. After several painful months I finally relented and met with Bobby and Rachel Logan. Within 30 minutes Bobby had me on a table and made his preliminary diagnosis. I FINALLY realized: a pill, a shot, or surgery was not going to heal me. I had to invest in myself and with MECA’s help I needed to repair my body.

The first day Rachel and I discussed goals. My primary goal was to walk without pain. Understanding my goals Rachel spent the first couple of sessions assessing my abilities as well-as my limitations. When I first arrived, I had trouble just getting down on the floor and found doing simple exercises difficult. With Rachel’s knowledge and encouragement each week the targeted exercises became easier, and I became stronger. With every session I get a closer and closer to walking completely pain free.

After my first package I lost 20 pounds and have gone from a 3x to a loose 2x shirt. My next goal is to lose an additional 40 pounds. Rachel and I discuss my nutrition every session and with her guidance I am positive I will reach that goal. Bobby and Rachel are good people who care about your fitness. I look forward to working hard and completing my second package.

My time at MECA has been nothing short of amazing. I have been here for about a month now and the results from the training and proper nutrition is amazing. I am leaner, stronger, and more explosive than I was prior to joining MECA and my weight has remained roughly the same (285 pounds). Great personal trainers and equipment. Bobby builds a program specific to your goals, which includes nutrition sessions, and than you and your trainer work the program. They start with the fundamentals to build a base and work up from there. It’s expensive, but without question, you get what you pay for.

I can definitely see the benefit for athletes who want to get the edge over their competition, and MECA can give you several examples of clients they have trained. For the non-athletes, like myself, they are equally focused on helping you achieve your goals. They offer a free (yes free) fitness evaluation, which is very thorough.

Lauren pushes me every day I come in and holds me accountable, which is what I needed before I came here.

I recently retired from the building material sales field and wanted something to keep me off the couch. The entire staff at MECA welcomed me and developed a program to fit my needs. I work out 3 days a week at their "state of the art" facility in Cascade. It is spotlessly clean with beautiful Atlantis and Rogue equipment. The training coaches, Bobby, Rachel, & Lauren are well trained and very good at what they do. After 5 weeks of training, I can honestly say that I'm feeling stronger and much more flexible. You need to work with professionals. You need to invest in yourself. You need to commit. Repeating the same chest and back workout you read in a magazine 20 years ago then hopping on a cardio machine is not working. Trying that exercise you saw online is not creating lasting change. You’re still getting injured. You still look and feel the same. The team at MECA will create the ideal program specifically for you. They build you up instead of running you into the ground. MECA is the best club that I have ever worked out in. I have been with them for almost 2 years now and have regained a lot of my strength. Being strong is very important to me because it helps me out with so many small things in my daily life. The atmosphere is friendly and professional. The staff is top-notch. I have worked with all three coaches and have had a good experience with each one of them. The facility is spotless and all the equipment is in excellent condition. This facility isn't just for athletes. The staff cater to folks of all different ages and infirmities. And believe me I came with infirmities. Because of my strength workouts, I no longer have to go to the pain clinic for my back because I now have a strong back. It is a mistake to think that just because you are aging, you are weaker. I say fight back, regain that strength and MECA is the place to do it.

I’m an over-40 man who has been training with Head Coach Bobby Logan since February 2020 and who had never participated in a structured strength and conditioning program before. So, this review might be most useful to those with little to no experience with resistance training or anyone who thinks they might benefit from a coach-driven program. I’ve thought about reasons why Bobby’s approach works for me and why previous tries with other kinds of workouts didn’t take. Here are two important ones:

Bobby and the assistant coaches have a far-reaching understanding of the theory and practice of strength and conditioning. Before starting, I skimmed some reputable books on the subject to acquaint myself with some basic weight training concepts. But the coaches’ ability to reinforce and build upon this material with me helps me to apply what I’ve read, have more rewarding sessions, and develop my own strength training knowledge base.

Bobby and the coaches also prioritize my success. When I first met the coaching crew, I had some vague ideas about what interested me, but I was unsure of how to transition to a lifestyle that includes life-long fitness goal setting. This has gradually changed however with the coaches’ experience-informed guidance—during training sessions and consultations, they help me recognize my current potential and map the way to my next fitness destination.

To be sure, the expectations of Bobby’s programming are demanding and require some discipline. But I have come to learn through each coaching interaction that he and the assistants want me to realize these expectations. Because of this, I’ve made some noticeable gains so far, and I’m looking forward to continuing the journey.
