I think Steve is a really talented pilates instructor. I had signed up for personal lessons with him and as a woman, I felt really safe with him as an instructor. That being said, timing didn’t work out well for us. Steve and I mutually agreed that our schedules weren’t working or that it was sometimes hard to get a hold of each other via text to schedule. We texted and agreed a refund would be an agreeable resolution.
Here’s why the review is so lowdespite Steve’s really great teaching style: So we agreedon a refund of $175 and him sharing he would send the check out in 7-10 business days via his accountant (he no longer had venmo, the method I had initially paid him through). I let him know I never received it after waiting a month. After a few text reminders, he said he would follow up with his accountant. After this message, I was completely ghosted. I sent a few more texts as check ins, but never heard back so I’m out $175. I saw in the google reviews that this has happened to others around the same time that I was working with him late last summer so I decided to post so that others could be aware.
LSDR: Steve is really talented, but it’s hard to work with his schedule and there were a lot of reschedules when we were able to connect via text. I never received a refund of $175 that he mutually agreed upon returning after multiple follow-ups because he ghosted me via text. I don’t know if something happened to him and I pray that he’s okay and well. But it’s taking a lot of effort not to feel like Pilates Center of East Lansing scammed me.

After working with Steve my low back pain has gone away. I feel better connected and balanced with my body (more aware of my posture and musle engagement). This practice has also improved all other physical activities that I do. I am so very grateful!

I have been doing Pilates for five years in NY/LA. I came home for a few weeks while my home was being renovated and was referred to Steve. Steve is hands down the best pilates instructor I’ve ever seen. I have been improperly engaging my core for 32 years, and Steve taught me proper engagement which took all of the strain off of my low back. So grateful to have the opportunity to take a week of classes with him! Highly recommend.

I was really hoping that this would be a great experience. I searched for a long time for a Pilates instructor as my physical therapist recommended it. Unfortunately appointments were consistently cancelled, most of the time on the day of appointments. I tried to be understanding, as some of the cancellations were COVID related. Trying to accommodate the instructors schedule eventually caused a lot of unneeded stress. It took about 4 months to get 3-4 appointments in when my schedule was supposed to be two appointments a week. It got to the point I reached out and said I could no longer do Pilates and requested a refund for my unused appointments. I was told that he would reach out to his accountant and have a check issued. I waited a few weeks and never received anything. I reached out again, and never received a response. It’s now been another week. I guess I just paid $450 for 3 sessions and didn’t get any of the benefit out of it. Super disappointed.
EDIT - it has been an additional 2 months and I have not received a refund nor any communication.

Steve does a great job, had really bad back pain and in a few months its pretty much healed, feeling better, standing upright and strong and working muscles I didn't even know how to turn on, thanks!

I love Pilates - and let me be clear - I don’t like to exercise. However my body falls apart unless I keep my core strong. (Thanks C-section and sedentary career where I sit in a chair for a living). I’m not a walking advertisement for the level of instruction - but I am walking.
I went to three different physical therapists and nothing was helping long term and I thankfully got the recommendation to invest in my body and do Pilates. That was over a decade ago and it’s the best investment in my health. Of course I am still at an intermediate level - because I’m lazy. It keeps me at a maintenance level which is my choice to not go more often.
P.S. I used to not so quietly cuss under my breath during sessions. I would do it more openly but it seems to backfire and I get rewarded with a harder session. So I look strained like I’m working hard and unfortunately the instructor has caught on to my BS. You do get out of it what you put into it. I need someone to stand over me and correct everything I’m doing incorrectly because I’m a very slow learner (or really lazy and stubborn).
I can’t say nice things about the instructor because I don’t want it to go to their head - plus they already know they’re the best instructor in town. Don’t glare or flip him off during session, I think it brings him joy.

I had my first class with Steve tonight and he is excellent. I’m having back issues and he really concentrated on helping me correct my poature and muscle weakness. One reviewer complained about cost, I say how much is your health & well being worth? I have no problem with the cost.
Update: I went to Steve for 10 classes and then paid for 10 more. I don’t know what was going on but he cancelled or rescheduled a lot of sessions on me at the last minute so I asked for a refund. It took a while but he did refund my money. I don’t know now if I’d keep the five star review. Five stars for he knows his stuff. 2 stars for dependability.

I had done mat pilates through an app before coming to Pilates Center of EL. The instructor has been amazing teaching me the reformer and Cadillac movements. He is dedicated to good form, will work with you to modify where needed, and adding these classes to my practice has been super beneficial for me!! Would highly recommend to anyone considering trying out Pilates!

Steve is an amazing instructor…the whole session is verbal reinforcement and hands on guidance! I’ve taken pilates classes off & on for years but would get frustrated and stop. However, Steve is so knowledgeable & motivating, he just keeps correcting my poor form until I get it right! Class is always challenging but I feel stronger, healthier and more confident since attending consistently!
I’ve had physical therapy after injury and surgery but since attending sessions at Pilates Center of East Lansing I feel like I’m getting a great pilates instructor, physical therapy and personal trainer all in one!
*Steve is simply the best!!

Great place. Steve is an excellent, knowledgeable classically trained instructor. The studio is top notch and very clean. He's very flexible with class times and scheduling. Reasonable rates. Highly recommended.

It is 400 dollars, with any type of discount, for only 12 classes ( you’ll know there is a non-refundable policy only after you paid for everything).
So make sure with your doctor or chiropractor (especially for those with a herniated disc) if you could do pilates because this place has no sense of customer service at all. Thus, if you feel any type of pain during his sessions (my case), you will NOT have your money back.
Also, because there is only one pilates reformer, scheduling an appointment is not as flexible as you may think, so if you still want to go to this place, keep that in mind as well.

Steve really knows what he is doing. A reformer session with him is a great workout and he provides immediate, specific feedback so that you keep improving. I've gained both flexibility and strength, and have progressed much further than I thought I ever would. Highly recommended.
