Apparently this PF is offering high-school kids free membership for the summer. These kids are taking over whole sections of the gym, leaving their water bottles and towels on one machine while using another machine. If anybody starts to move their stuff they call out that they are using that machine. Saw this several times, a group of maybe 4 will takeover 6 machines. As i did 15minutes on the treadmill I watched one girl sipping Starbucks and playing on her phone, sitting on the leg lift machine the entire time never doing one exercise.
A PF worker was standing around one time sorta laughing and joking with a couple of them while this was going on.
Pretty hard to get a quick workout in on my lunch hour when bunches of kids don't know public gym etiquette.

Lots of equipment and don't seem to have an issue getting on a machine. There seems to be lots of employees that just stand around doing nothing and socializing. They could take the initiative in showing new members how machines work et cetera. Several times I have not even been greeted. They just scan my card and go on talking. Edit: lowered it because the staff are incapable of changing the stations on the televisions. Apparently that’s just too much for them. I requested multiple times for Fox to be shut off as I don’t want to workout with that racism and bigotry on. They said they can’t despite it being an individual franchise. Unacceptable. Cancelling my membership for this one.

Always expect to face broke equipment that doesn’t get fixed until a complaint is made. The water fountain has been broken for a month now. Special part needs to be ordered when I asked two weeks ago for a water fountain that is commonplace in most buildings anymore.

Use this as an example that this facility is breaking down consistently and sits in disrepair. As a gym, sure great the weights lift heavy. As a facility; lots of improvements needed. Staff are always friendly and helpful though.

Not a bad gym most employees are good but I come in to this one typically at nights based on my work and meeting I might have (black card member and home gym is grandville) I’ve visited planet fitness gyms all over and this one dude that works after 6pm shifts always tries to talk me into making this my home gym and tells me I have to switch to this one cause I can only visit other gyms 10 times a month if I don’t make it my home gym…. Staff is very friendly, but the Lake Michigan Planet Fitness is overly crowed between 5pm & 9pm, Monday through Thursday. A lot of young college students from Grand Valley State University come in parties of 4 & 5 and hog a lot of the equipment. A lot of people posing in mirrors and taking too long to finish sets. I joined planet fitness on Lake Michigan Drive and had a altercation with Matt Palmisano about tanning.
1st he asked me if I needed any goggles and I said sure, not realizing I had to buy them. He took the money out of my debit card, which I didn't sign for or approve.
2nd, I told him I was canceling my membership there, and he said I will need to pay for another month because I didn't cancel soon enough, according to him, I needed to cancel on February 10th, which, today is the 12th!
I told him I only came there to tan and didn't want another month at 25.00,because I can't afford it. Two days late? I guess!
He was not willing to help or work with me.
I won't EVER go back there and I surely know alot of people that go there.
This is bad customer service in my opinion.
Watch out for the sneaky ways they do business.

Oh and I told him 9 minutes in the stand up tanner and he shorted me 2.30 minutes. I already know he shut it off.

Today was my first visit, signed up for a black card membership. First impression was it's very clean, plenty of cardio equipment, and nice locker rooms. I did not look at any of the weight lifting equipment, but plan to get into that down the road. The staff that helped me sign up was very friendly and helpful and it wasn't as busy as I was expecting which was nice since I was unfamiliar with the gym layout. The gym overall is really good, good amount of equipment, things like the hydro massage are really good, and the staff are nice too. The only suggestion I have would be to add a little bit variety in the equipment. (aka different machines) I believe this would be a good decision because when you walk into the gym, you can see a very large amount of cardio equipment (bikes, stair master, treadmills, etc.) so much so to the point where it takes up most of the area in the gym, leaving not much space for other equipment. But however, I only think we need to remove some of the cardio equipment (in front of the ab machines and 30 minute workout zone) that’s with the other equipment, so that way there’s more room for different equipment. One machine that I think should be added is a hack squat. I made sure to look it up, and sure enough, the brand that pf gets their equipment from, life fitness, has a hack squat machine. Another thing that I think should be added, is a free weight area for bench press and squats, so that way people that wanna do free weights can do free weights, and the people that would rather stick to the smith machine can stick to the smith machine. But overall though, this gym is pretty great, even for people that are a bit more advanced at lifting, it’s just I think there needs to be more variety in the equipment.

I use this location along with Grandville, 28th st, Plainfield, Alpine, and Greenville. This is the dirtiest location by far. Walls and corners? Dust and hair balls. How about up top? I would love to give a higher rating but it's location makes it a difficult place to workout. It's a college area. GVSU students have no etiquette. And generally the staff there are indifferent to members. Too busy talking or staring at their phone. Since the reduction in open hours the benefit seems less of a value. Then, there is the company structure. Your turnover is high. Your wages are insufficient. Your business model is doomed! Unless you go to a lock/key member model. Without staffing. Which would be most awkward. However, I have no doubt corporate cronism will win the day and drive the fun, value, and this entire franchise right out of existence..Enjoying the workouts while they last.

If you are looking for a gym with CLEAN locker rooms, showers, and changing rooms, I suggest you look elsewhere.

The men's locker room is absolutely disgusting. The showers are rarely cleaned and there's gobs of hair and other "debris" on the shower floors that are there from one day to the next indicating NO ONE is cleaning them. Sometimes this goes 3-5 days where it is clear nothing has been cleaned. There's always trash in the changing rooms left by others and again it will be there for multiple days in a row. The shower curtains are covered with black mold/mildew on the inside. It's absolutely disgusting.

There is something truly wrong with the ownership/management of this club right now to let it get to this point.
