I have been an active blackcard member since 2020, i have never even spoke to a employee at my "home gym" location, I stopped here to use the restroom while running errands and literally was given a harder time then when I brought a pocket knife through TSA by accident....

Planet fitness Employees are NOT POLICE OFFICERS!!! they cannot pat you down or put their hands in your pockets!!!! they dont need to know what your exercise regiment is!!!! and you are not required to report what equipment you plan to use!!!!

After being questioned, searched, and financially and racially profiled by the 300 plus pound Gym Manager and her minions as well as wasting 15 minutes of time i was finally able to use the restroom. Upon entering the restroom I found 3 teenage boys passing around a weedpen......

How did they get passed the security guard esque employees and 300ibs women frisking guests?!?!?!

Its unfortunate that this franchise advertises this whole judgement free gimmick but I cant use the restroom at there suburban locations without being treated like a hobo or a criminal....

This is one of the better planet fitness locations I’ve visited. That said, after joining, I’m realizing that the “open 24-5” marketing shown near the door is false and misleading. They are not open 24 hours a day on 5 days per week. “24-3” would be accurate. Assuming that the calendar day starts at midnight, this is just simple math. Corporate will never read this and franchises simply install the required signage.

I’m 16 and I decided to take advantage of the “Free Teen Summer” plan that Planet Fitness was offering. Anyways, I pulled up to Planet Fitness to get a workout in — wearing Crocs and socks. No big deal, right? Apparently it was a huge problem for a couple of the staff members. I was polite, just asking if I could finish my workout since I’m waiting for my ride. But they didn’t even consider it. I then pointed out how others were also wearing crocs with socks just like me. The dude was already pretty pissed at me and said “SHOW ME” and I pointed at a grown man in his mid 20s wearing crocs and socks just like me. At this point everyone was watching.
The difference? I’m only 16 years old. That guy was much older. No way would they have come at him like that and asked a grown man to leave over some shoes. This wasn’t about footwear–it was about age. Clear discrimination.

And let’s talk about safety for a second. Some Crocs are literally more protective than those paper thin, see-through tennis shoes. At least Crocs cover your whole foot and have decent grip. If you’re really worried about dropping a dumbbell, a flimsy pair of mesh sneakers won’t save you either. The "safety" excuse is a joke when you're not applying the rule fairly.

Then I tried to go to the bathroom afterward and they wouldn’t even let me. So let me get this straight:
Wearing no clothes in the locker room? ✅
Wearing Crocs in the locker room? ❌

Make it make sense.

Planet Fitness pushes this whole “Judgement Free Zone” slogan, but I guess when it comes to footwear it changes. If you don’t want teens in your gym, just say that. Don’t preach inclusivity and then single us out for things others get a pass on.

They do a good job at surface cleaning but it’s disgusting there and it’s a full staff unlike many of the other gyms with low staff and extremely dirty. Everything you use I would clean before and after working out even the vacuum hardly works as you can see. They mop certain areas and will use the bathroom mop water to mop other places in the gym the water will be black and still don’t change it and I would definitely not buy any of the drinks or food and yes they control the fans they just keep it so the front desk is comfortable not anyone else

I travel for work. So I’m typically at a different planet fitness weekly. The gym itself is nice, it’s clean. But how high they have the heat cranking when it’s 70 degrees outside makes working out unbearable. When I asked the employee why it was so hot in here. His response “oh you think this is bad you should’ve been here yesterday” I’ll drive to a different gym. Rather than work out in an oven.

Facility is good but they don’t control people who use the facility to train other people for money. The problem is that the clients for these people pay by hour so these “trainers” claim multiple equipments and areas so their clients don’t have to wait - which is not fair to other patrons who should have equal rights to these equipments.

I’ve brought this up to the staff and they acknowledge that it’s happening but nothing is being done.

I've been going to this gym for the past 5 years at least twice a week. There is everything you need, the place is clean. In a few instances, there was some unknown matter in the shower, but that's just people being gross and not having basic hygiene.

Today i went to the locker room, and walked out with literal feces on my shoes, this is a serious hygiene issue and the gymgoers seriously need to do better. Almost 3 years I’m at gym me and my brother wee don’t take with any one. no one complain about me past 2 month One black guy working out there he kip saying people keep reporting about me I told him show me the evidence. He said he’s not gonna show me anything and today they’re closing my account. I was go gym 6.30 am I’m out 7.30am The black guy called me 12 PM and he’s saying my account is closed. The place is clean. The staff is nice. The only knock on it is the dumbells should go up to 75 but no locations seem to have that.

Edit: No change to the weights. Even the newer staff members are helpful. I was almost hit by someone flying through the parking lot. Staff asked if I was OK. They were concerned, which was nice.

Great value for the money. Clean and friendly environment.
There are a lot of treadmills, stair climbers and recumbent bikes. Therefore, no waiting for any of those.
However, not a big variety of weight machines and free weights, and that area gets tricky to navigate during peak time.
With all that being said, if you have some flexibility with your routine, you can get a solid workout any day of the week.

As a frequent member at planet for the last couple of years, I have hopped around all of the surrounding locations in search of the best. I believe this troy location is by far the cleanest and the most 'attended to' gym out of any surrounding locations. Furthermore, I'd also like to recognize the great staff at this location. & a quick shout out to one employee named Dom, as I have routinely witnessed this individual go above and beyond, consistently helping others and greeting them with smiles.

Apparently the problems people have with individual clubs are a result of individual ownership/management. I was so frustrated with a Planet Fitness in Hawaii and how difficult it was to cancel a membership that I was ready to paint all clubs with the same brush, which isn't fair at all. This club, listed as my home club, that I obtained while in Michigan, thankfully made it super easy for me and Alexis helped me so quickly to do what should have been a simple thing to begin with. Not sure what is going on in Hawaii but thankfully this location in Troy, Michigan has it together and actually helps people. Additionally, when I went to this location in Michigan while I was there, I enjoyed the facilities and appreciated how clean it was, the friendly staff and the well maintained atmosphere. Beware if you come to Hawaii, our Planet Fitness locations are rotten. Thankfully, there are locations that run like well-oiled machines, like this one in Troy, and also the one I went to in Pueblo, Colorado. Never had any problems there so not sure why Hawaii can't be as excellent as these ones on mainland US. Keep up the good work in Troy and kudos to y'all for actually running a proper business out there. Maybe Kahala PF can take a leaf out of your book.

I just started coming here this past week due to the closure of my local Troy LA fitness. I do not recommend this gym.

It’s hard to come here and not get harassed. Every time I scan in they tell me I have to go to my home club, all the way in South Carolina to get my picture taken and they will let me in “this one time”.

I was having a phone call with my buddy and an employee approached me in the middle of my workout to tell me to end my call or take it to the lobby.

I was in the middle of working out, on a different day, and they interrupt me telling me I can’t have my backpack next to the treadmill.

I hate the feeling of being micromanaged at this location. I’ve been a PF member for over a year now and have never had an issue at any other location.

I’ve been an avid gym goer for about 3 years now. I’ve held memberships at various LA fitness, lifetime fitness, xsport fitness, and more. I’ve never had a gym employee approach me with an issue, especially not during the middle of a workout. I’ve never had a problem with bringing a gym bag into the gym.

The gym is supposed to be a meditative space for me. I work a lot of hours and I enjoy being physically active. While I admire the dedication to creating a safe, respectful and clean environment for the members, this feels over the top to the point where I don’t want to go to this location in fear of being harassed. I simply don’t want to be picked on by the staff.

I will be taking my business elsewhere.

This is a great club and I have been using this club consistently for the last couple years. Its clean, pleasant and the staff are simply amazing. They greet you when you get in and on your way out as well. They assist with any questions/concerns. The equipment is in great condition. Restrooms are very clean. Plenty of equipment to work out. They offer free classes. Meghan, the trainer is also awesome. Their massage chairs are fantastic. Guests are also very pleasant overall. Unfortunately, a guest today was very rude, and disrespectful about some equipment I was going to use and he thought I should not be using. He might be having a bad day and/or was not good with communication. A staff member was around and handled the issue. If anyone comes across any such issues, please escalate immediately or report it to front desk. I truly think its social responsibility of every guest to keep the place safe and pleasant and help the place operate at top class which they do.

As the member of the very first planet fitness 30 years ago in Dover New Hampshire I have literally been in over 100 locations as I am a public speaker and I travel all over the United States. With that being said I have a pretty good idea of which gyms in this industry are successful and as to why. What stands out for me at this particular Planet Fitness in Troy were moments during my workout that readily made an immediate impression on me very favorably. The equipment is in superb condition with no machines currently requiring maintenance. Good God at these other clubs I don't understand why a piece of popular weight resistance needs 3 months for somebody to attend to it (farewell pec deck in Austin, Texas). Lol. I found the Maple Rd. club to be incredibly clean and a great sense of energy amongst the clients and I believe that can only happen if they feel welcome which is not always the case unfortunately in some franchises (hello Cumberland, Maryland take note here of the professionalism in Troy). My sense of welcome began the moment I entered and I met the wonderful Shatara who was able to readily provide information for suggestions regarding a couple of questions I had. Very kind and thorough. Then as I said goodbye to her on my way out, a fine employee who was delightful in every sense of the word, Monika, told me to have a nice evening. Now you might not think that's exceptional customer service because of the fact that Monika did that but let me tell you something. I would venture to say that only about 8 or 9% of these clubs tell you to have a good evening as you exit. Saying goodbye really communicates that you are valued more than anything. Unfortunately with the current work ethic in our American culture employees would rather be on their phones or speaking among themselves doing the bare minimum for the clients (hint hint Milwaukee). So a 'have a nice day,' goes a long way and it is inviting in the sense that you want to return.

I’m on the road a ton for work, so I can safely say that I’ve been to most planet fitness’s in Michigan. This locations smith machine gave off the most resistance than any other locations smith machine. They need to grease up the guide rods every month. People will hurt themselves if they don’t normally train at this location since they’re not going to be used to the resistance. Feels like I’m training with rubber bands. Would go to the other location nearby if you incorporate the smith machine in your program.

Someone put a lock on MY stuff and the manager was upset that I broke the lock. No one handles a stolen vehicle or wallet after I leave a gym other than myself - they wanted me to wait for them to ask everyone in the gym if it was their lock? Makes 0 sense at all for that. The gym was packed. There are people in the shower, people in the bathroom and locker room, people in the spa, etc NO ONE in their right mind would let their stuff be locked with someone else’s random lock on it and be okay with that and with waiting over an hour for you to find out who did it. The manager approached me after and told me it wasn’t okay for me to do that. Frankly it wasn’t okay for that to be handled that way and I will no longer come back to this gym. Absolute insanity.

So the cap to my reusable water container fell into the stairmaster machine. Manny the worker up there that I told It to immediately went with me to It and tried to recover It. It was stuck there and he couldn’t get to It. He said that the next day or so the maintenance man would get It out because they don’t have access to the key that opened the machine. A few days later I came up there and chuck the manager said the maintenance man was on vacation unfortunately but said by next week they’ll make sure to hold onto It for me. I thought they weren’t going to hold onto It for me to be honest lol but sure enough next week I came up there and both chuck and manny said hey we got your cap! Thank you planet fitness, chuck and manny!!!

A clean and well-maintained PF with lots of natural light. I used to go to the one near 13 Mile back in the day, but this one is nicer.

PF is cheap for a reason. It's not a fully equipped gym - no squat rack or anything. But for more basic needs like treadmills and dumbbells, it gets the job done.

Do NOT come to this location. The short guy who works afternoons wanted to cause a scene and yell at me and my significant other because he was helping me workout. Mind you I have been coming here for years. And I have had my S/O help me with my workouts here before and NEVER had a problem. Not sure why he wanted to target us today but It was disgusting and ridiculous. We both have membership black card plans too. So not only do we PAY to come and workout but the staff member made a big deal out of nothing. I don’t understand why. And will never understand why he was discriminating against us (maybe because we were an interracial couple) because I saw OTHER couples who also were doing the same thing as us. But it was really a bummer that he stopped my workout and caused a scene for no reason. Very unprofessional. Who the heck wants to be bothered by staff when they just trying to workout and learn things. Such a bummer.

UPDATE: I did talk with the manager Matt. He was very kind and made me feel better about what happened. I hope no one ever experiences this type of situation, but Matt was very professional on handling my upset and was hearing me out about the situation. I really appreciated it.

Good hours, location, staff, and prices. Has most of the machines I like, not too busy, and it’s clean. Not 5 stars because: only one of most machines, if they were any busier you’d keep having to wait for the machine you want more than you already do, and there’s not a lot of standing/yoga mat room for free movements. Still a nice place I’d recommend it over most others

I’m a fan of Planet Fitness. My only complaint is I think they should have coat hooks. Why would I want to stuff my winter jacket into a locker where the dude before me laid his shoes?

In comparison to other locations, the equipment, locker rooms and building in general seem well maintained since the gym opened. Everything is neat and for the most part clean. Occasionally youll find a dusty tanning bed, but wiping those down before using them is just a part of the tanning process no matter where you go. The other day I visited and upon walking into the women's locker room I heard male voices. . From inside the locker room. Two men were carrying on a conversation with an older woman and I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable (especially because I was going to use the shower) so I sat inside of the shower room and waited until they left. While waiting I heard one of the men say that the men's locker room had no electricity. I would seriously hope a power outage wouldn't give men permission to enter the women's locker room..... No employees seem concerned about that and it makes me question how closely they are paying attention to their surroundings.
This gym recently changed its hours without giving any of its members a notice and that has completely interfered with my usual routine/schedule.
The sign displaying the new hours didn't mention when the regular hours would return.
Its not a bad gym, probably the best priced and cleanest planet fitness in a 20 mile radius, but its also nothing special or fabulous.
