In the past few months, Iβve noticed some great improvements. Not only has the overall condition of the gym equipment gotten better, but the locker room area is now much more well-maintained, with some sections even renovated. For my needs, this is a gym that offers everything necessary without unnecessary frills. Good job to the management and all the staff!

Easy access to the gym dispite its downtown birmingham location. There is 2 hours free parking in the structure. This gym has nice classes, friendly staff, clean locker rooms and an easy going atmosphere which makes getting in and out a breeze.

This review is for the amazing gym, but mainly for Lonnie. He is an amazing trainer. The kind that knows just how hard to push, without pushing past my upper limit. He makes clients feel comfortable and like they can do anything! If you are like me and trying to get strong after too long away from regular strength training, come to this gym and find Lonnie! πππ

Looks like a great spot. Unfortunately charging $30 for a day pass, kind of a slap in the face to people who travel for work and want to stay healthy.

As an Internal Medicine physician and Longevity Lifestyle expert, I take decisions about my fitness center expectations seriously and deliberately. Everything from the comprehensive equipment, specialty exercise studios, towel service, ultra cleanliness to the courteous and professional, yet friendly staff and culture at Powerhouse Birmingham is just what the doctor ordered.

These guys are a rip off , they wanted to charge me $15 to workout when Iβm already a member at a different powerhouse. When everybody else charges $5 . What a disappointment. because of disgusting people like you

Generally it's a super nice gym and the equipment is great. Folks wipe everything down and I've rarely seen things broken which is great. Def kinda bougie but I think the folks that go here, are looking for that.
This area of town is interesting and the big thing that I noticed is that, folks really love to SOCIALIZE in this gym. Not a big deal at all, but def gets busy. Week long pass is about 60 bucks, and there's a parking lot with parking next door that's free for up to 2 hours.

I would like to thank Matt for the behind the scenes effort to get the steam room up and running. To be able to cap off a good workout by removing toxins makes the entire process 10 times better for me. Thanks for the follow-up!

Great equipment, pretty clean facility for how much use it gets, friendly staff.
I will say that the lost and found system needs some improving. I made the mistake of leaving a few products behind in the locker room (my fault entirely), and have had a few hundred dollars worth of prescriptions thrown away by the staff over the past few months. My fault for leaving them behind though.

Itβs a decent facility and in a great location. But, the steam room almost never works and this is a large reason why I even joined this gym. Thinking about canceling at this point. Itβs extremely unfortunate and hoping that things get fixed soon.
Update. I came into the gym in January and asked the front desk about the cancelation process because I was moving in March. The guy at the front desk told me since I was under contract, I did not have to cancel and that it would just end at the end of my contract. I have now moved about an hour away and they are still charging me $60 a month. I called yesterday and was basically told too bad and that my membership cannot be canceled until their general manager is onsite. Today, I called again because I hadn't received a response and the person over the phone said "you will not be getting a refund because you didn't cancel and my general manager still isn't here so tough."
Rude. Disrespectful. Lack of customer service. I will be in that gym in the next 24/48 hours trust and believe that!

As I said before, great customer service, management saw my review about cleanliness and immediately got to action. Clean workout area with plenty of wipes and spray bottles and updated equipment. Menβs looker room does need more help but they are working on it. Canβt do to much about guest cleanliness.

Was in town for two days and inquired regarding two one day passes. Wanted to charge $30 per day. Ridiculous price and just obnoxious. You have a largely fixed cost business - why choose to annoy and gorge your fellow gym goers? Unfortunate.

Great gym that Iβve joined, left and rejoined a couple times due to moving / college. Excellent service and not like other gyms that make it impossible to cancel (huge reason to come back). Were also very accommodating during the COVID shutdown. 24 hour service was critical - wish more gyms were like this one.

I have been a member of Powerhouse for almost two years. I was a little skeptical at first since I had never belonged to a gym other than one related to a University before. The experience so far has been very good.
They have very flexible hours and plenty of equipment of all kinds to match your physical health needs. I don't think I have ever had to wait in line for equipment to become free.
The facility was recently upgraded. Re modeled showers, steam and sauna. Never a problem with access, towels or lockers.
It is a nice place. I am glad I joined and look forward to the reopening in the near future.

Nicest people and incredible facility. Front desk was helpful setting up a drop in - just nice people and a great facility. Really enjoyed open studio space. If I lived here, I would work out here.

Probably the worst costumer service I have experienced. After searching for a 24/7 gym while in town for work, I stumbled across Powerhouse. I called the support where a lady named Ashley answered. I told her I was in town for work and wanted to purchase a day pass. She told me she didnβt take orders and I would need to call someone else. After repeated attempts for help I finally gave up.
1/23: the person who answered the after hours number listed on front of the Birmingham door said her name was Ashley. I made the call on Wednesday morning, 1/22. Please ask the person who was responsible for answering the phone during that time.

Not a terrible gym. Limited equipment. Convenient location and parking. Definitely not worth the monthly fee compared to higher quality Power House gyms that charge less (like novi powerhouse) and other high quality gyms in the area (like life time fitness).

I initially started shopping around for gyms because I was a bit sick of my old gym (Planet Fitness). I was coming off of having my appendix out a few months prior and had been cleared by my doctor to begin exercising again. I generally wanted to get back some of the fitness I had lost and work with a professional.
I found Powerhouse Gym in Birmingham, and it checked all the right boxes on paper. It was a very clean facility, and it seemed like most of the staff was incredibly nice and professional. I asked if they could help me with personal training, which specifically for me meant paying a trainer a lot up front to get a plan and then slowly scale back how much I use the trainer as I recovered (most likely scaled back to every 2 weeks or so after an initial few months of heavy use).
I was either lied to or the general staff that works there is not very knowledgeable on the product that they offer.
I played phone tag training organizer for a long time (and ended up telling her my goals about 5 times which she forgot every time), and was assigned a trainer to work with. I had expressed to both people I had talked on the phone with for scheduling what my fitness goals were. When I arrived, the trainer again asked me what goals I had. He seemed confident he could help. It was a very nice workout, but then it turned a bit odd. He started telling me he couldn't help make me a long term plan. He then said that I should buy some sort of extra supplement that he sold and that I could pay him in advance in a 20 for $80 deal ($1600 for someone that didn't help me)
I assumed it was just a case of a personality clash. After another few weeks of phone tag I was finally given a call by another trainer. I told him what my fitness goals were and he stated that he would call me back in a few hours to set up a timeβ¦.after a week I called the person that scheduled training again who did not get back to me.
I decided to talk to the manager. I was about a month and a half in of having absolutely no help with my long term goals. He was very nice and apologetic, and was especially concerned that I was considering cancelling my membership. He made sure I was called on Monday, and on Monday I was told that they needed to know all of my fitness goalsβ¦.AGAIN.
At that point I quickly told her that I was terminating our business relationship and cancelled the gym after work. I asked the manager to call me later.
I received a call from the manager, who began lecturing me about my poor decision to cancel. He insisted that I had hung up on his trainer, and that I was essentially trying to cheat the trainers by getting a plan that I could work even if I wasnβt directly with the trainer. I expressed again that I felt ripped off and that I hadnβt even received nutrition advice...he stated that they donβt even give that type of guidance as they are not licensed (misleading me from the start). After having him raise his voice to me a bit, I told him that I couldnβt continue my relationship with his gym and that it had been a thoroughly unsatisfactory service experience. I also expressed my displeasure that he had specifically called me up to lecture me about how wrong I was, versus trying to address any of my concerns or perhaps try and win me back.
In short, I have never experienced such miserable service and never been made to feel like I was such a low priority. If you are looking for a premium gym experience, I would recommend a planet fitness over this place...and Iβm sure there are better options in Birmingham. I hope this review perhaps saves you from having to find another gym at the end of 2 months and saves you the $250 fee I had to pay to get out of my contract for a gym that didnβt do ANYTHING to help me.
Iβm sure now that a post will go up below mine, saying how wrong I am and how they are sad to see me go. But let me ask you this, do you really want a gym that is going to take time out of its day to lecture you on how wrong you are to not like it and not even attempt to make things right?

A very clean facility with lots of options of equipment to train with. The staff - Matt, Jeff, Ethan, Christi, Taylor - all are so friendly and helpful and so are the trainers - Oksana, Chuck, Christina, et al. The credit for cleanliness of this facility goes to Vladimir.

I love this gym. I am strictly a class participant and do not work out individually. Each and every instructor has been excellent - friendly, professional, and always concerned about safety and technique. It's small enough to make it personal and not a ware house of machines and bodies. We are consistently greeted with a friendly hello upon arrival and leave with a wish for a nice evening when we leave. Always clean too.

The things I love about this GYM....
1. It is clean
2. Huge variety of well kept equipment
3. Yoga classes - I like that they have a lunchtime yoga class scheduled.
4. The proximity to my office allows me to actually get off my butt, walk 2 blocks and get some exercise
5. Employee know my name and are always in a great mood.

Hard to beat Powerhouse when it comes to gyms in the area. The gym is clean, and the equipment and weights are in great shape. Powerhouse does an awesome job staffing this place, everyone working the front desk is incredibly helpful and they really want to get to know their members and their goals. The yoga teachers are all top-class as well, and the classes they offer are very beneficial. The importance of staff is huge, without dedicated employees there would probably be a much more corporate feel, but you don't get that here. I really can't say enough good things about the place, definitely worth checking out.

This is a gym that's run how it should be. They take care of the things from big to small. My brother goes there also religiously and told me a story that wasn't surprising because of the family atmosphere there. He has 2 kids, lives 5 miles away, and forgot his shorts. Realized this when he got to the front desk and begrudgingly started to walk out as others were walking in. The front desk attendee called out and when my brother explained his predicament he was shocked when the guy offered him a pair of his gym shorts. He declined because he didn't want to take the guys shorts from his bag when he needed them for his own workout. But then he accepted the very kind offer when the guy told him that "I can take the day off, but you are on all the time with two kids and a wife to go home to." I think you pay for what you get at most gyms and at powerhouse you get a lot more.

I have been a member of Powerhouse gym in Birmingham for close to three years. I find it to be Birmingham's little secret. It's very conveniently located in downtown Birmingham directly across the street from one of the city-owned garages where you can park for two hours at no cost. The cleanliness of a health club is very important to me and, in this regard, Powerhouse of Birmingham is certainly above par. I have been a member of clubs that did not maintain their equipment, but, this club is not one of them. I also like the fact that they use top-of-the-line equipment. I don't care for the "big-box" health clubs that lack intimacy. Powerhouse is cozy, yet, has everything I need which includes weight machines and a wide variety of cardio equipment. One other thing I like about the club is that the people who work there are professional and friendly and there has been very little turnover in full-time personnel in the time I have been a member. My only regret is not joining sooner.

The only gym for a Birmingham resident that is close to home and isn't packed (e.g. LA Fitness, Lifetime). For myself, the price off-set by company gym reimbursement making it fair for the location and amenities. For cardio, weights, basic machines, and general people who mind their own business - this is perfect. For the most part, the equipment I prefer to use (free weights, bench, treadmill, cable machine) are all generally available during peak hours. My only complaint: The locker room shower doors are basically see-through.

Powerhouse novi is over double the size of this location and also has way better amenities including hottub/pool, basketball court and cafe but Birmingham charges over two times more than novi. There only reasoning is the location and that they're "higher class" which makes no sense because the gym is not that nice. I would choose LA fitness, fitness 19 or Royal oak gym
Over this.
