Pros:

All the weights you will ever need to gain size and power.

Cons:

-Parking lot is busted and car swallowing pot holes are everywhere.
-Locker rooms are poorly maintained and small. Urine all over the urinals and the toilets are always backed up with sewage spewing from them.
-Nothing is wiped down. Unless someone walks all the way across the gym to grab a bottle from the "stretch" area to do so.
-The cardio equipment is either out of service or runs very poorly.
-The weight machines are archaic but get the job done properly. (not pro or con really)
- Limited cable machines also a line during peak hours.
-Not enough power racks. You'll be waiting during peak times for one of these.
-Squat racks plate holders and plates have surface rust. It's more of a "dusty" rust as it isn't penetrating the weights. It does however get on your hands when cycling the weights.

Other thoughts:

Only come here if you're interested in barbell and dumbbell training.Don't expect much (or anything really) as you get what you pay for. $150 total for the year is dirt cheap comparatively to other gyms in the area. And please don't compare that to planet fitness -- it's really not in the same category.

cheap
has plenty of machines
people are not judgmental like the commercials would make you believe
experienced weightlifters are eager to help if you are a newbie to the gym

started working out at the powerhouse because i was tired of being skinny, my highschool girlfriend left me and i needed something to up my confidence

i was very skinny at 150 6'2" originally
two years later now i am 185
had no idea what i was doing at first but whenever i messed up someone always helped me out, all of them were complete strangers.

you wont get kicked out for grunting or yelled at for slamming weights everyone does it at the gym. no one bats an eye if you drop 500 pounds on the floor. its rusty and the parking lot isnt nice, no one mops the floor so a small cloud of dust appears when you throw weight on the floor, but its a gym its not ment to be nice, if you want a clean place where you can feel good about being yourself go do yoga or join planet fitness but youll never see results there. but if you want to reach your goals, get stronger get bigger arms, get faster, get skinnier you should seriously consider the powerhouse just being there youll be able to lift 10 pounds more because of the atmosphere i garrentee it

Gym is dirty and run down. Equipment is old, outdated and in disrepair in many cases. Locker room is very small, dirty and smells. Parking lot is poorly lit or not lit at all. Staff has been told to not to turn lights on in order to cut operating costs. Members vehicles are often broken into. When I got my membership it was open 24 hours, which was a great for me working afternoons and shortly after I joined they stopped doing that too and they didn't even tell anyone. Don't waste your money at either the Brownstown, Lincoln Park or Dearborn gyms... Owner only cares about the money, Doesn't put anything back into the gyms.

Been going here for almost 3 years best bang for the buck, got three gyms you can go to, great hours and there open 7 days a week. This gym motivates you to get better and stronger
