Edit: Changed from 3 to 4 stars, the gym itself has a great collection of machines and it seems like they have listened to feedback about the music since it has been lower. This is alongside my reflection that the layout is probably affected primarily by the community. I think that lots of people that go here may be lazily treating the equipment/putting items away, forcing the layout to feel “awkward”. The gym however should probably positively reinforce better etiquette with their equipment, as the second branch where there are many racks in a spacious room they have remains mostly a lot cleaner.

(old review) the gym is fine, awkwardly laid out in my opinion as the machines are all skewed differently and the ceiling is very low, but the music is genuinely unbearable you need to bring noise cancelling headphones

I’ve been coming here for over 4 years now, and I still love it!

Plenty of space, featuring a well rounded mix of machines, both plate loaded and pin, free weights, cardio equipment, and functional workout area, spread across three separate buildings (two are connected, third is a short walk down the sidewalk). 24-hour access for members, with a 24-hour sauna, in house chiropractor, massage therapist, barbershop and tanning booth, along with a pro shop filled with a variety of ready-to-drink energy drinks, pre workout drinks, protein shakes, protein bars/snacks and bottled powders of pre-workout and protein.

Super friendly staff, and (mostly) friendly members. Definitely recommend to gym-goers of all levels!

It's an excellent gym, with a barber shop and message room, lots of equipment, a supplement and swag shop and 24 hr access. Would be even better if people would get off the equipment between sets instead of spending 5 or 10 minutes scrolling Facebook or cuddling with their girlfriend...😠

Absolutely the BEST gym experience I’ve ever had! Powerhouse has everything I need for a complete workout. I feel comfortable and safe to leave my belongings unlocked while I’m there. The bathroom has two shower stalls so I can clean up after getting all sweaty. I’ve got nothing but praise for how this place is run.

Love this place! Usually come in the morning. It's generally not too busy then. Like typical gyms, it starts to get busy around 4pm (I'm not there then). There seems to be enough free weights. There are also cardio machines. I run outside, so don't really notice the stair machines etc.

This gym has great equipment but the management has no idea what he is doing. The staff is very lazy and doesn't want to clean if they don't have too. The clientele is also ehh. This gym is great for beginners or just starting to workout.

Also everything that you read about it being hard to get out a contract is accurate. I did face the same problems about 2 years ago in a different powerhouse facility. They use a terrible third party billing service that only wants your money.

This gym is amazing. My wife and I went multiple times over the holidays while visiting family. The gym is HUGE and has everything you need to get a great workout in, from free weights to some unique machines. The gym is clean, the equipment is well maintained, and the staff were extremely friendly. I highly recommend this gym to anyone in the Kalamazoo area.

The GOOD:

I loved this gym when I was in Kalamazoo! It was a great price.

It was a really clean gym, really respectable people, it's definitely for bodybuilders. Not many average people in here but everyone is nice and keeps to themselves.

I loved that it was 24 hours and you could scan in at any time with a key card.

The BAD:

The problem is, they make it very hard to cancel and have some annoying rules about having to ride out the next month before cancellation.

I moved out of town and they say the only way to cancel is to mail them a paper or drop off in person. So it takes time for the mail to process, it also takes time for me to write out my card number and a ton of info on a physical paper.

I've never had such a hard time cancelling something and I think it's kind of absurd that I ended up paying for multiple months after I had left town because they made it so hard for me to cancel.

I wonder if that's how they pay for all the beautiful equipment in here. It is pretty awesome if you're local. I was able to walk there or run there.

Nice gym with good equipment, I am just disappointed in their cancelation process. When I originally signed up I was told it was a 12 month contract, then when I went to cancel after 12 months due to moving I was told I was actually in a 16 month contract and had to pay $150 to end it. My boyfriend then tried to cancel and they told him he had to go home and print out a form and come back to cancel,(which wouldn't be so annoying if we didn't live 40 minutes away) and if you look at said form you will see why that is a joke and just something else to keep you there longer. Really, they can't print a piece of paper there? Or you can't do it on the computer when the paper just asks for your name and reason for canceling? Honestly want to laugh at how ridiculous it is.

Powerhouse works with ABC Fitness Solutions as their billing company and they're terrible to work with. Expect them to make it as difficult as possible to cancel. ABC Fitness uses every dirty trick in the book to justify continuing to charge you.

The equipment is nice, as are many of the gym goers. However, if you visit during peak hours you can often expect to wait a half hour for a squat rack, bench, or one of the few cables. This is a problem, but the most significant is management. The price is reasonable for students, though cancellation, even after your year contract has passed, is excruciating. During registration, Lou and his staff will inform you that extenuating circumstances will be considered when cancelling or holding an account - this was not true in my case. This past winter I tore my labrum and two muscles in my rotator cuff. The following week I had surgery on my left axilla for a prior injury. I called the front desk just days after my year expired asking to cancel. They were less than helpful. I decided to go in person and explain my situation. Again - they were less than helpful. The result of this was being charged for 27 days I could not exercise, and for the following month as I did not cancel in time. Lastly, it is important to note this cancellation policy is in their contract and was explained in my case - my frustration is with the lack of care for their members.

This Gym is tied up with ABC Financial which seems to practice some underhanded and shady cancellation practices that make simple request cancellation a fight to the death.

I asked to perform the buyout option to cancel my membership and I was fine with paying the remaining balance, but I still was forced and required to go back and forth through various emails and calls that stated that I needed to provide actions that I already provided, to initiate the cancellation. I was told to send an email with my name, account number, and stating I was canceling via buyout option yet received 3 emails stating that they were sorry but I was only eligible to cancel via the buyout option!?!??!?!

They are stuck in a loop which seems 100% intent on forcing the consumer to experience the most frustration and agony imaginable to hopefully give up on pursuing the cancelation request.

I've dealt with many service provider before that perform these shady tactics and ABC Financial is atrocious at providing support and an intuitive experience for their customers as a part of the vendor of PowerHouse.

I strongly recommend not getting tied up with a service provider that is leveraging ABC Financial as a vendor if you need to have a smooth, normal experience at managing your account and services. You have been warned.

Terrible customer care and service. BEWARE. When I called to cancel in May because I moved, the manager said my contract goes until august, so I asked him to cancel it then. He said he could not do this and for me to call back in June to do it. I did call back in June and the female told me it was to be cancelled it in august with nothing else needed from me.

But now I still see them taking $25 a month out of my account. How sad that they force a customer to call over and over again so they can make a lousy $25 a month off of them. Shameful practice. I have been a member of gyms in nyc, LA and Chicago and this is a terrible business model.

For $10 it's the perfect spot for someone like myself!

Now I'm something in-between a gym-rat and a has-been so it's not as if I look at gyms on a professional level or from a trainer point of view or anything.

I was in town for a couple days and wanted to stay on track with my workouts and also was looking forward to weights since I was doing bodyweight stuff at home.

The machines were clean, people who needed to were wearing masks. Everyone kept a great distance too. Overall great experience and didn't feel intimidated by anything.

I just moved back to Kalamazoo after living in Chicago for 9 years and Germany for 11; so it has been a long time. I was a member there in the 90s and a personal trainer at a powerhouse in chicago in the early 2000s; and this is still the best gym in town. I checked many others and this place is for everyone from the beginner who wants to lose weight to the serious bodybuilder or power lifter. It is always clean, the staff say hi and are very friendly, and it is not "intimidating" for the people who think you have to be a bodybuilder or power lifter in order to be a member. The equipment is top and always in good working order and locker rooms are clean, and the atmosphere makes you want to push yourself to the max. The membership fee is so great that it eliminates the excuse of not reaching your fitness goals due to expensive monthly dues..If you go 4 days a week, it is like $1.50 a workout; for 2 Starbucks Coffees, you can workout for the week (and then some). I can't say enough good things about Powerhouse; and I have been a memeber in gigantic supergyms in major cities around the world.

Power House Gym is beautiful and atmosphere is very nice.I literally miss everyone there and hopefully to come back soon.Its been awhile.

I will do everything to convinced my self to come back to that gym or have my friends speak to Lu about coming back. I have a lot of good friends and I do like Lu and he's a nice guy,We had our boundaries in the past and its water under the bridge,When I got mad and when I had issues with 2 employees,he didn't do anything about it and I got very angry and I left the gym and thats why I asked if I could cancel my membership and I was working for bac and wasn't worth paying for a gym membership at a gym because my membership was free and I got eliminated due to covid19.I been at a different gym,but it's farther out and I just want to come back at power house gym and work things out like adults always does,I have plenty of good friends that actually care about me,When the owner doesn't let you come back,Makes you want to do everything you can to work things out like adults.We all adults and we must forgive each other and give people 2nd chances

I’ve been to many gyms in my life, but non have had the atmosphere or cleanliness of this gym. I’ve been to MegaGyms in big Cities, I’ve been to the chain gyms that you can find everywhere, but non have been worth a 5 Star or for me to want to write a review. The owner of this location puts so much heart and soul into this facility that 90% of the patrons have better courtesy then I’ve seen anywhere. I myself find I don’t care to linger to long on equipment and will even pick up after others not get used to this amazing culture. Everyone who’s been going to this gym for a long time feels more like family then faceless mobs you try not to make eye contact with while trying to work out. All ages and body shapes seem welcome as no one is shunned. This gym has definitely raised the bar, no pun intended, on what my expectations are for a gym!!!

Happy to see this gym has a 5 star rating. Without a doubt this is the best gym I have ever been to. No it doesn’t have a pool and some of the amenities like some of the other gyms out there, but as far as a “pure gym” goes; this is the cleanest, has the best machines/weights/other facilities (core room, Olympic room, etc), is perfectly clean, and all around excellently dialed in that you will find anywhere.

Toured the new Powerhouse Gym Kalamazoo last week. Then, I cancelled my membership at my old gym and became a member. Closer to home, larger, cleaner, new equipment, actual locker rooms, water fountain which fills bottles, and staffed early AM-late PM. Inaugural workout there this morning.
