This gym could be so much more if they simply just cleaned everyday and took care of equipment. Trainers are great, but management has to at least act like they care.

It has been hard to find a gym in the area that promotes heavy barbell lifts that doesnβt charge an arm and a leg for a membership...I really liked this gym until there were several used tampons on the floor in the ladies restroom that werenβt picked up for weeks which ultimately led me to cancel my membership. No air conditioning either so I wasnβt able to go when it was too hot out. This place has a lot of potential but needs a lot of TLC to get there still!

Been working out here since 2016 perfect gym amazing atmosphere. Only thing is the bathrooms which are a health code violation and they house every type of disease. They should be able to keep bathrooms clean for $35 a month

Broken equipment. Nothing is ever fixed or cleaned. People from the powerlifting side bring their weights to the other side and never rack their weights. Itβs annoying having to rack other peopleβs weights for them because theyβre too careless and lazy. Staff never correct anyone on this. It seems like this gym is slowly going under and the staff are content with that, seeing as nothing ever changes or gets fixed. I quit going here after they raised the membership price but still refused to clean or do anything besides sit behind the desk all day.

I've been coming here since 2019 roughly 6 or 7 days a week.
I'd rate 5 stars if people here actually gave a damn about cleaning shiiiii up cuz the some of the trash really is starting to pile up... Yeah, and I do know what kind of gym this is but still.
I remember when this place used to be "cleaner". Really has gone downhill last couple of years (esp locker rooms) and a little effort would go a long way. I say this as a longtime member who plans to keep lifting here for the foreseeable future since I do enjoy the atmosphere.
That being said: if you are like a whiny biiiiii expecting this place to be your personal planet fitness and must to complain to the front desk every 5 mins that your tummy hurts welp you best go take a lap and find a new gym homie.

I personally love this gym. I have been going to ROG for years and can say confidently I have never been to another gym with as much diverse equipment as this one. I love that there is mirrors everywhere, and lots of benches, platforms and squat racks. The dumbbells also go from 5lbs all the way up to 195lbs. It is safe to say this gym is the perfect place for bodybuilders, powerlifters, and your average gym goer. The price isnβt too bad either, itβs like $35 a month, cheaper than most other gyms Iβve seen. Overall definitely a gym Iβd recommend giving a visit to.

This place makes Planet Fitness look good. It's always dirty. Half of the equipment is out of service. The building looks like someone just bought it and never thought to clean and fix and decorate it. Yeah, it has great equipment for bodybuilding and a "welcoming environment"... if half of it were available, clean, and/or fixed. It's a shameful company promoting crap, like Walmart. There are never any staff members, or anyone to really contact if there are issues. You do not get what you pay for here. You are better off paying $100/month at a professional gym with actual trainers who care. And the owner responding to the complaints is a problem and hasn't any skill at what they do, and is an example of who we don't hire in this society. I don't need to provide any evidence, because all you need to do is walk into this dump.

I am a member here due to location, *hours of operation*, and amount/variety of equipment.
No one goes here for the cleanliness⦠dust, broken glass, garbage on the floor, etc. are ever present.
Beware of showing up when the gym is scheduled to open (5am during the week, 8am on Saturday) itβs hit or miss if the doors will actually be open.

This trash gym took over payments from a gym that shut down nearby and continues to charge people who never signed up. I've been calling for months to try to get the payments stopped. The owners Matt and Destiny must be some pretty pathetic losers to be so unethical over such a small amount of money.
I cant reply to your note directly so I'm updating my review based on the response. As I've told your receptionist, I live in California now so I cannot come in person. I've been charged every month (including this month) and every month I call about it and you refuse to come to the phone or call me back despite leaving my number. Even now you only replied on here instead of calling me directly, so it seems the only "keyboard tough guy" is you. I am not asking for money back nor did I want to leave a public review (hence months of repeated attempts to call) but this was the only way I could try to get a response. A lesson to anyone else having issues is to air it publicly as it will never get addressed otherwise.

itβs a very popular gym and they have a wide range of equipment, my boyfriend loves it here because itβs body builder friendly but Iβm pretty sure they havenβt cleaned the place in over two years at least. They just upped daily membership from 5 to 8 dollars and they upped monthly from 30 to 35 but they still havenβt cleaned this place and although I really want to go here it just disgusts me every time. Thereβs a thick coating of dirt dust and dander everywhere and I wish they would just clean it one time. Just one time. Please. The following picture is the bathroom stall in the ladyβs Locker room.

Seriously the best environment for serious working out. Been going here since it was Gold's Gym back in the 80's .Not cleaned like the old days but price is right and can shower at home...I am there for the hard core atmosphere and dedication to the sport / hobby / PASSION of it all. Use it or lose it approach as I am a senior and want to maintain my muscle mass as long as I am alive and breathing. I do miss the fact that the stair master has been out of commission for ever...used it religiously pre weight training...feel I am missing something without a good aerobic challenge. The trainers are as much or more in your ballpark pertaining to whatever your fitness goals are ...I have yet to use one through my 42 years lifting , but see the results they produce and may very well get on board with doing so. Sincerely, Rita

I've been going here for about half of a year now and I think I can make a proper review! This gym isn't a commercial gym, so if dropping weights or hearing people grunt is a pet peeve, I'd steer clear. This place is pretty specialized for those who workout in a powerlifting/bodybuilding style. Though the environment has a healthy level of competition and motivates you to push yourself, everybody is super welcoming and friendly.
PROS: It's deceptively large inside the building. There are 6 deadlift platforms, 7 squat racks, 8 places to bench. I RARELY have to wait to use one of these amenities that typically are hogged in commercial gyms. In fact, most gyms around the area don't even let you DL. There are also a ton of specialized barbells and vintage machines that you could not find in a normal gym. I haven't used all of them, but if you were deep in the hobby this could be very important. As I mentioned, people come here and put in the work. That environment alone is essential for getting a good workout in. There's also the hilarious factor of hitting a PR, looking up and immediately seeing a poster of Arnold Schwarzenegger smiling down on you.
CONS: You do have to plan your workouts better since the place does close at 9:30 most nights, and earlier on the weekend. The downside of vintage equipment is that it occasionally needs a bit more TLC. Sometimes you find a dumbbell with one side unscrewing itself or a bench that doesn't lock in the inclined position. Cleanliness could be a bit better, spray bottles don't really have a designated spot. Sometimes there are plates loaded up on unoccupied machines or scattered across the gym. That being said, they don't have the staff size like a commercial gym, so to be honest there should be some level of realistic expectation of it not being as pristine as one.
Overall if you have a no-frills weightlifting approach to working out, look no further!. It's a great value at $32 no contract, even less if you are a student under 25.

Shady operations going on.. Fitness 19 (12 mile location) closed down permanently and transferred my membership over to this place and neither company notified me of this. It didn't prevent this Gym from auto-charging my card for over 12 months (just discovered this unfortunately) without me having stepped foot in the gym once. Not sure how many other people this has happened to but it sounds like more than a few.
I called / emailed to try and resolve the issue and offer a resolution / opportunity to make it right but apparently they weren't interested. This is really the definition of a parasite. It's really not about the money to me- i just get really bothered by behavior like this. However, It clearly IS about the money for this place and 200$ is apparently more valuable to them than their own integrity. a pretty good indication to avoid this place!

For MONTHS I have tried to cancel a subscription with this gym. I fully understood my membership was transferred from fitness 19 to here, or may even still be Fitness 19? (Even though they literally shut down), but I have called multiple times and have been told the membership will be cancelled - charged again - call again to cancel - charged again.
They say ABC handles my membership in someway, but they refuse to give me contact information for them so that I may try and cancel, getting very close to filing for Fraud

I was grateful to have an open gym. Staff was friendly. Large amount of equipment though a bit of mix and match, and little was new. Clients were respectful and some friendly. Don't be fooled by the reviews, this place is truly terrible. From the dirty machines and lack of rules, to the narrow set up of the entire gym, this place is not worth what you pay. To elaborate more, random weights are all over the gym with no type of standardization in place. The place is so dirty, you can still see the previous guy's dried sweat on the machines. The people that work here as well as the people that workout here don't care about gym etiquette one bit. They will put 400 lbs on the deadlift bar and will leave it there for the next guy to put away. If you try to complain, be ready to be met with insults.

Very good gym. Has all the equipment that you need. I've been to LA fitness, planet fitness and they were not as good. First LA fitness was crowded and smelly and there was no place to workout. So I left LA fitness and came here. Planet fitness isn't really a true gym. I didn't like planet fitness. They only had dumbbells and just a few machines.
I don't agree with other reviews here so I decided to write this. Bathrooms and lockers rooms are pretty good for me actually. Not much of a difference between Planet fitness and this gym. There are variety of people that come here not just serious lifters. It just depends on your time of visit.
This gym is close to my house and I like it there. I thought this gym is really good so I train here. Everyone is friendly and they will help you out if you ask. From my experience, all I can say that this a great gym.

Everyone at the gym seems to be pretty nice and most people will give you a spot if asked. The trainer (Art) is the best trainer you will ever meet. Speaking from the perspective of a true "Iron Addict" Royal Oak Gym is awesome. I would say there are only a handful of gyms with the inspiration, energy, power, and motivation that ROG has. It's not uncommon for me to walk into ROG and see people deadlifting 4-6 plates. Every time I walk in I am surrounded by motivation. People are focused by friendly. Not everyone is a bodybuilder or a powerlifter but there is a bigger presence here than at other local gyms. There is a NO BS approach from the sales staff it is NOTHING like any commercial gym where the sales people stalk you around like a shark and blow up your phone twice a day trying to break you into buying a contact. The sales people seem more like, "sure check it out" then you decide if its for you or not. Not to mention the memberships are incredibly affordable, you have options for monthly if you don't want to commit to a longer contract. They have reasonably priced and a nice variety of individually bottled pre-workouts and protein shakes. I encourage everyone to check this place out with an open mind and think "it's time to step out of my comfort zone." Royal Oak Gym seems to me to be the kind of place that legends are born.

Awesome no-nonsense gym. This gym caters to hardcore powerlifters' needs (like having a monolift, deadlift platforms, deadlift/squat/bench bars). However, while this gym is great for a hardcore lifter, the atmosphere is very inviting and it is welcoming to people of all fitness levels. No signup fees, no paying extra so the gym can afford instructors for power-pilates classes. Good locker rooms with showers and a sauna, and a tanning bed for those interested (included in membership).
Since I know I always want to know what equipment a gym has before going/signing up, here it is:
This gym has 4 squat cages, 2 squat racks, 3 deadlift platforms, tons of floor-space for deadlifts or olympic lifts (they have padded weights), 5 flat benches (3 of those are powerlifting benches), 3 incline benches, 1 decline bench, large dumbell area with lots of benches, seats for shoulders, inclines, declines, and the dumbells go all the up to 195 pounds. 2 lat pulldown machines, 2 cable row machines, 2 cable crossover stations, and pretty much any machine you could ever need. There's a stretching/abs area as well. For cardio, there's about 10-15 treadmills, 4 stair-steppers (the small ones), 1 large stair climber, about 10 ellipticals, and about 10 exercise bikes.

Great gym, great people. 90% of the members are super friendly unlike most gyms I've been to. The staff is very helpful. If you need any sort of trainer the staff and point you in the right direction. Every trainer that has clients there are amazing! One of my pet peeves is waiting for a bench or any machine, it's rare for that to happen there. Great atmosphere.

I used to love this gym for its rare old school flair but it has been vulnerable to predator outsiders since it has always lacked strong central management and that's exactly what happened a few years ago when some dude basically came in and brought in a few of his sycophants, usurped the head manager (whose influence now appears to be less than that of a regular desk clerk) and now apparently runs the place. As the quality people left and more hardcore, criminal elements became members, the myth-mongering has reached epic proportions-how this guy supposedly owns all the equipment, how the gym would never have stayed open without him, how many members he brought with him (never mind all the good ones he chased out) how he parted the Red Sea, built the Eiffel Tower, etc. etc. If the owner only knew the type of mafia style tactics he pulled behind the scenes I highly doubt he'd be permitted to train his clients there but who knows, maybe he does know and doesn't care but I left cuz I was so disgusted with the whole situation. And the head manager is fully aware of the situation and just rolls over, it's really sickening.

Been said by others, but this is a lifter's gym. If you want to swing swedish meditation bells to the latest pop dance fad you're looking at the wrong kind of place. If you want to go in and not have to wait to do any kind of serious lift, this is your place.

You couldn't ask for a better lifting gym. This gym is not for the faint of heart. While it has plenty of cardio machines, its real strength lies in the big plates piled all over the gym. True, the amenities won't match those of the uber-swanky gyms, but then again, the price is reasonable and you can work with staff so that a membership will fit your budget. Most of the staff are friendly and Art Little, the powerlifting trainer, is knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic-and tough. Definitely a lifter's paradise; if you're looking for spas, whole floors of cardio machines, and the latest fad in fitness, keep searching. If you're after PRs, gains, and elite fitness, you've come to the right place.

I'm just on a free pass trying out the gym but I can already tell you that it is better than any of the globo gyms around. I can see what some of the people are complaning about the dated look and feel of the gym but I see that as an upgrade compared to LA Fitness or any of those types of gyms. Instead of the annoying Top 40 music played at other gyms, they are plaing classic rock. They are one of the few gyms around that allow you to drop your weights and have the rubber plates. Generally, I've found the people there to be helpful and it's a good environment to get your fitness on in.

This place is a run down dump. A lot of the equipment is broken down and never gets fixed. Only half of the ellypticals work. The manager is a creepy jerk who doesn't care.
