I have been here a few times and just got a membership! I like that they have a sauna available and a ladies only area if I wanted to use it. They also have a room that’s great for posing. I like the different variety of machines as well there’s a few I haven’t seen before but are my new favorites. Highly recommend!

This is a BIG gym! Super spacious and a great atmosphere to workout in. I’ve been a member for 7ish years on and off and I started my membership at this location. The staff have always been kind! I love that the location is 24/7 and they have a ladies section only!!! Before I moved and started going to a different Strength Beyond location I was obsessed with going to the ladies side because I was nervous and a new member. I eventually ventured out of the room and never went back in there. I got comfortable working out in the open and didn’t feel insecure anymore. But it’s a wonderful gym and I highly recommend signing up for a membership here verses other loud/crowded gyms. The owner is personable and signing up is an easy process!

I’m rewriting my review. The owner has been professional towards me. I could no longer attend the gym because I moved for school. I would say cleanliness and more upgrades would be useful. I have nothing against anyone working here. I just feel like the contract commitment is pricy for an average person.

Perhaps lowering membership would be helpful and more thorough cleaning. Was sad when one of the best trainers ( John ) left.

Sure, Planet Fitness is cheaper, and Bronson might be cleaner, but this gym's got the vibes. A big warehouse filled with every machine, free weight, and cardio you could need? If you're a intermediate/veteran lifter, you'll be in heaven.

Newbies might be overwhelmed, but that's what PF is for.

Environment is always chill (there are definitely meatheads, but they're all friendly), and I've never had an issue with staff. If anything, they've always been quick to answer any complaints I've brought. I've also never seen a machine "Out of Order" (Bronson used to have machines out of commission for weeks at a time).

The place could be tidier, but like I said, you don't go to a gym to enjoy the spotless floors --- you go to lift heavy weights, and SBF has plenty of those.

Why not 5 stars?

Like I said, gyms don't have to be spotless, but when they collect 'enhancement' fees every few months, it'd be nice to see the actual building 'enhanced'. There are holes in the walls, cobwebs, dust, etc. I know they use the money for new machines, but that's really a non-issue when a lot of these decades-old machines work just fine.

Here's my suggestion if you're on the fence: go and ask for a tour of the place. If you walk around and it's too grody for you, go someplace else. If you decide you can overlook a little grime, then ask for a price estimate. Walk in with a membership timeframe and a price point in mind. I wouldn't call SBF staff scammers --- just shrewd businessmen. Don't let them talk you into something more expensive than you're looking for, and try to pay cash up-front.

they put me under a 3 year contact without letting me know anything i wasn’t imformed that I was under a three-year contract I was just informed that there was a contract in and I signed it, but when I was given a rundown, it had nothing to do with how many years and when I asked to make my contract shorter he was very unprofessional and rude. Basically telling me that is nothing that he can do, and I signed up for it

Strength Beyond is fantastic! The girls-only section is perfect for a comfortable and confident workout. The sauna is clean, spacious, and ideal for unwinding post-workout, while the tanning bed offers a convenient way to maintain a healthy glow.

Place was garbage when I went there. Had the old school weight room vibe and that was the only cool thing. My access card never worked, the place was always dirty, trash overflowing in the bathroom. The tanner was literally always broken. They make you sign ridiculous lengthy contracts otherwise they jack the price up.
I got relocated for work after a year of having my membership and have been paying $50 for this cesspool of a place every month. I called the owner to see if he would be willing to terminate my contract so because I no longer live in the area. Should have known judging by the place and my experience that he needs that $50 a month more than I do. lol
I strongly advise you to look elsewhere for a gym and a nicer clean place to work out. 0 stars is not an option, if it were I'd give a -1.

They will get you on contracts, take advantage of younger guys getting memberships charging them not explaining all cancellation and all included fees well. Have taken over 590 dollars over a year for a so called 35/month contract.. Place is rundown, half the year i had my membership the sauna was broken, went to cancel my membership and they tried to lock me in for 3 years. If I could I would rate zero. This is a private owed business which I don’t do discriminate but, make sure you read the terms and conditions before you sign there’s no way to get out of this contract unless you are permanently disabled or you are deceased. I was talked into signing a contract without it being explained the terms and conditions, I had to go away for some time “personal issues” they were aware and was supposed to freeze my account then delete it this was promised to me but, instead have been going behind my back each month taking money out of my account. Once I figured out, I called to explain the issue not to mention me being a single mother and NEVER used their services past or present thinking they would come to a solution but, instead insisted to say it’s not their fault. The person who originally signed me up is fired for a whole other reason and I should take it up with them. The only option they gave me was to buy out my contact. Not including the payment of $300 they’ve already took from me. Be careful with what your signing up for for you won’t have any justice when things go wrong!

I have been counting down the months until my membership is up at this gym. Although, I don’t actually know the exact day it is up. I asked the employee months ago and he says, “probably like 2024. That’s when most peoples are up due to freezing accounts during Covid.” I was very confused by this response. I usually attend early morning but decided to go after work so that way I could get the date my contract ends. Well… a sign was left at the desk stating “be back, call for assistance.” I called and the employee stated he wouldn’t be in the rest of the evening. It’s interesting to me how the gym operates. Every time I’m there I look around and ask myself what am I paying for? Not a bottle filled with cleaner in sight. I look around seeing people dripping in sweat moving to one machine to the next without having a cleaner to wipe down the machine disgust me. The place doesn’t look like anyone even care about the place. It’s not cleaned, broken mirrors, things falling, holes in the ceiling. It is gross. They never get new equipment. Why in my contract am I paying an “improvement fee?” NOTHING is being improved. Yes you updated a few treadmills but the screen don’t work on some to track the distance your running. I don’t understand why you are charging an improvement fee and not improving the gym. I would start with maybe a cleaning person and fix the repairs. It sucks because I love the body building types of gym. At this point I can say I will not be recommending this gym to anyone.

This is the best gym in the area for those who predominantly use free weights. Though sometimes older and in disrepair, I find the cardio equipment to be sufficient. Great gym for quick workouts and heavy lifting. Been coming to Gull Rd SB for years and I love it. Shae is great at welcoming people and keeping the place well maintained. Awesome selection of equipment, weight racks, bars, platforms. Only gripe would be some 45’s don’t weigh the same but they’re pretty easy to notice and find matching ones. Contract Mill - Beware of 2 Month Auto Renew Clause. The gym itself is not bad, but these guys are money grubbers. They will try to rope you into long contracts with auto renew clauses and when you go to cancel, you get hit with additional payments. Unscrupulous. They care constantly trying to rope you into additional services and everything has a contract.
Most gyms do not work like this anymore. I kept my membership through the Covid crisis to help these guys out and then tried to cancel after the contract expired only to be tagged with two months of payments because of the auto renew clause. Better to do business with a less greedy institution.

Terrible place! Runaway as fast as you can. They are doing so bad that they trap you into a lease agreement. The manager and owner never pick up their phones and the gym is very old and rundown. Please do not go hear at all. I don't live in Kalamazoo and I tried to end my membership and they won't let me. Im getting charged every month for a gym I don't go to. You are better off going to planet fitness or exercise at home. This gym, owner and manager are ripoff specialist. Trust me on this, they will swindle you.

Make sure you understand your contract with them. They will sell you a 2+ year contract and make you continue to pay even if you move out of area. Very little leniency. After moving to a completely different state for work, I asked to break the contract; they said they would allow me to pay half the remaining balance of my contract in one lump sum. I asked to freeze my account since there is a freeze clause in the contract. Told them I would unfreeze it if I ever move back to Kzoo. They froze it for a month and continued billing after 1 month. If you're a WMU student not from the area, be very careful if you don't plan on staying in the area after graduation.

Aside from this, the facility was a little run down, but loved the atmosphere. Lots of nice people and a great all-around gym for lifters.

Horrible gym. I got a membership on a deal for 12 months. I figured its cheap and it has what I needed to lift. Well later I find out most things are broke. The roof leaks and the drinking fountain is always broke. So I decide to not resign. They were given 3 weeks notice that myself and my friend were not resigning with the gym. Membership was from March to March. Well March 20th was the end date. March 26th rolls around and they are still dippig in my account. They try to tell me I needed to give them a 60 day notice. That is two months!! They never informed us of this at any time! Now they are telling me I cant get a refund for the money they took.So with that being said stay away from that gym.Not worth your time.

If I could rate this gym any lower than one star, I would. When sitting down and explaining a gym membership, it's probably best to have your employees explain that you're signing a 3 YEAR membership. On top of saying that I would only be charged $20 a month, last statement, they charged me $50 for an "annual fee" that was also not mentioned. I began this membership at the end of the summer and have used the gym literally once. I abruptly had to move away from Kalamazoo and no longer needed the membership... I would have never signed an agreement lasting that long, but that apparently didn't resonate with their accounts manager who told me that I was in the wrong because their employees have to follow procedures and that I'm lying about not knowing about their absurd membership length. He then asked if I knew anyone in the area that I could "transfer" the membership over to because I'm liable for the rest of the balance. This is BY FAR the sketchiest business/gym (whatever you want to call it) I have ever dealt with. Take your business literally anywhere else.

I had a 3 year contract which ended in March of 2017. Beginning of September I see a charge of $50 on my bank account from strength beyond. I called to inquire why I was charged being I was no longer a member, the manager in charge told me there was a little part in the contract which states your membership would automatically turn into a month-to-month and the $50 was a yearly charge. When I asked him why I would be charged for a yearly charge never paying for a month after my contract he couldn't answer me. So I asked for a refund for the money and I was denied. I am now going to my bank to deal with this matter. This place has been nothing but a constant hassle for me and were not willing to work with me on my contract in 2015 when I was going through my divorce to create my own contract. Never again! I would never recommend this place. A total scam. I hope the owner realizes what he is doing to his customers.

Their gym is very unsanitary and there are piles of dust/dirt collected in the corners and on the equipment. They have a "ladies only section" which I was really excited about. However, it's like they put all of the old, broken down equipment in the back. The front isn't much better even if I wanted to workout up there. Tanning is included in the price, but the tanning beds are very old and need replaced. It doesn't seem like they put any money into keeping up on their gym. I am very disappointed that I got a membership here and I for sure will not be renewing here. I would not recommend this gym to anyone.

Great place to get a good workout in. Equipment is always available, this gym is suited to those that actually want results. Lots of people there that know what their doing. My favorite gym by far.

This is the worst gym ever! They scammed me into a 3 year contract! They use tactics to get you to sign for three years. The supposed manager has poor customer service and he states that he is sort of the manger and won't let you talk to anyone else about this scam. Not only that he deleted all the 1 star reviews from Facebook once I brought up that there are multiple people complaining of these scams on Facebook. Not only that this place has old equipment, tanning beds, very hot, and nota place to go as a woman with all the creepy men

This gym has great atmosphere to really reach your fitness potential. Marshall along with other staff and trainers have great knowledge and are open to being helpful. Its amazing the gains and goals I've achieved since purchasing my membership. Well worth what ever it costs to better yourself and live with better health. I thoroughly love this gym. Everything from the information filled staff to the reasonable rates to the plethora of equipment, this gym essentially has it all. The fact there are tires, ropes, sleds and a tub full of chalk is incredible and hard to find around here. I always feel at home and comfortable when coming here to workout. I would sincerely recommend this gym to everyone!

Okay, so I'll start off by saying it's not a gym for the faint of heart. This is an actual gym, which in my opinion is hard to find in the day and age of planet fitness/ anytime fitness/ etc. this isn't a place where people gather to talk and look at weights. This is a place where gains are made! If you like a place with a motivating atmosphere and you're looking to hit that next level, look no further.

When I first started my membership I didn't know anything about physical fitness. The staff helped me gain a good understanding of what to do weight wise starting off. They gave me helpful tips on diet, supplements and form. Since then I have lost 60lbs and am happier in general. The staff is knowledgeable and nice. The facilities are clean and ready to be used.

I've been lifting since I was 15 years old. I've been to gyms all over Michigan. This is by far the best gym I've ever been to. It's got everything I need to improve my training. If I ever have questions about training or nutrition the staff and management are very knowledgable and come from all sorts of fitness backgrounds. My type of gym.

Well I will say customer service is an A+ here because first thing I noticed was I felt welcomed important and like all my needs were met so this place is a great location great place to come to work out if you want to have a good mixture of free weights treadmills and machines I think this is one the best locations in town I would highly recommend it to all friends or acquaintances or just anyone in general thank you.

The gym created a high pressure situation to sell my wife a $3,000 membership and took no steps to ensure she understood the contract. On September 9, 2015, a male employee at the Stadium Drive location created a high pressure situation to get my wife, who is a shy female and not a native English speaker, into signing a membership contract, telling her she couldn't take time to think about it or call her husband (me), that she had to sign now. The employee told her that she was signing up for a 6 month membership, but the employee, who filled out the form (not her), actually signed her up for 36 months. He did not tell her he was doing this and took no steps to ensure that she read carefully and understood the contract. The value of that membership was $3,000 (36 months x $80 per month.) When she tried to cancel the contract later that day, she was denied, and was told to talk to the VP of the company to negotiate a cancellation with him. This man (the Vice President and co-owner) was so rude that he made my wife cry and then humiliated her after she started to cry. He explained to her that she could not get out of her contract unless she paid half of what the membership fee would have been, that is, $1,500. He told her that this is how he does business; this is how he makes money. That is an accurate paraphrase of what he told her. He refused to cancel the contract, which stipulates that if payments are not received, the contract is turned over to a collection agency.

Strength beyond is as good as it gets. Its a place for people of all levels and abilities who are serious about reaching their fitness goals. While i was at another gym i had outgrown the limited equipment they had. Then i found strength beyond. They have excellent free weight selection, hammer strength machines, aerobic room and more.this place has an amazing atmosphere with a super friendly and helpful staff. Also tom drake and the staff does a great job on always adding improvements to the gym. I have surpassed alot of my fitness goals here and glad to have joined this gym!
