Awesome environment. Reasonable rates, friendly staff, and good routes. Very beginner-friendly, but even the V1s could be a real challenge depending on fitness/experience, as is the case anywhere.
Update: still a great gym! New routes twice a week if I remember correctly. Nice assortment of chalk bags and gear. Rental shoes are reasonably priced. Lots of route options for every level.

I've climbed at dozens of gyms at this point across the country. and Terra Firma remains my favorite to this day. Right away, the staff are the loveliest people ever, and many have become great friends of mine. The route setting is some of the best i've experienced! The facility is always spotless and clean. There is community nights, fun events, and so much more. You can really tell the love that is put into this gym. It shows! Love calling terra firma my home gym.

TF is really the top bouldering gym within driving distance. Consistently unique route-setting, very chill and welcoming vibe, and even if it's busy there's enough routes to get a good session in. Very easy to come in as a beginner and get hooked - the options for progression are plentiful.

Updated: been a member for 4 years now. All sun shine and rainbows at first but slowly the upkeep of equipment, training boards and setting quality/consistency has degraded. Pretty much the entire staff has turned over in my time here. This is a commercial gym focused on selling day passes.
They Refuse to listen to member feedback. The feedback board is met with a snarky reply as to why your request for change isnβt valid/canβt happen or false promises made.
Original review:
Super friendly and helpful staff, a clean facility and they change routes on a regular basis to keep it fresh.
Solid training area with 2 full racks for squat/bech, full dumbell rack, kettlebells, rings galore and even a dip bar! Campus, Kilter and moonboard are all also present in the training area.
Pro shop with awesome apparel and anything you need for bouldering.

I purchased a day pass while visiting town. The price was reasonable, and it was easy to fill in the waiver. I climb regularly in my hometown, so I appreciate that they gave me the bullet points version of the welcome spiel instead of a full orientation to bouldering so I could get climbing quickly.
The climbing itself was great, with a 5-tier circuit. With only 5 tiers, there's quite a bit of variation in each. Make sure to head upstairs, too! I didn't use the fitness area, but it looked extensive, and there was a well-attended class in progress.
I only wish there was a little more breathing room. They've done a great job maximizing the space with climbing and benches, but it just makes the walkways one person wide, a little cramped. It's a personal thing so it's not impacting the rating, but as an introvert and more novice climber, I just felt like I was in the way a lot.

Awesome bouldering gym! Had a 1-month membership gifted to me and I absolutely loved it. I found any excuse to get over there and climb. There new routes every week, and they are very high quality with many different levels of difficulty. And the people, both the staff and the climbers, are all so friendly, supportive and kind. I'm 42 and don't really fit the typical climbing culture, but they are all very accepting of me just the way I am. This has become one of my favorite places to be.
The Tree Frogs class for kids is awesome, too. Jesse does such a good job with the kids, including my ADHD son.

I brought my brother here for his birthday. We had an excellent experience. Very friendly, and knowledgeable staff. They also have a filtered water fountain for water bottles, which is great. They also have other drinks like Gatorade and snacks that you can buy if you want, at decent prices too. It's a little hard to find if you're not from the area, but Google maps took us right there. Just watch for potholes on the roads.

I went on an across-state climbing gym tour! this was one of our first stops, but I have been here a few times before.
Compared to Holland's Scrapyard or Detroit's Dyno Detroit Climb, I would say that it's the middle child in size. It's very spacious and gives you make-shift 360 climbing experience. There are several walls to climb on; When you enter there is a overhang, at the sides are two slab walls, and behind it all is a combination of the both. Above the reception area is a regular gym which overed a combination of free weight, machines, and cables.
I would say that the routes are graded fairly and offer a reasonable selection of difficulties for beginners and experts. The holds and gym itself is very well maintained and cleaned. The front desk area is neatly presented and their selection for apparel is impressively designed and stylish. Unlike Dyno, they don't get too much into selling shoes or climbing gear and focus primarily on their own merchandise. I will always be disappointed in myself for not buy one of their hats that were on sale, but I have not seen it since!
I would consider this a family friendly gym for all ages, but also a hotspot for college students and climbers alike! If you're looking to try every climbing gym in Michigan, this a top priority!

For the location & access to climbing outdoors locally, this is a suprisingly good gym. The setting lacks a bit of depth and variation - and the difficulty varies wildly between sets where the range of any colour can be extremely far off between each wall - but you'll still get a good work out, feel warm and welcomed and be able to get some info on climbing related events within the state, which is great!
If you're living in the area, it's affordable, has great amenities and an excellent albeit small gym area with plenty to keep you strong during the off-season.
The community are excellent - inviting and clearly excited about the sport. It's a good place to go and if you somehow end up in Michigan on your travels, this place is worth a visit.

Great gym or greatest bouldering gym ever? Awesome staff. Great atmosphere. Really nice variety in routes and challenges. Very clean. Super friendly vibe. Went in with my 8 year old on a Sunday afternoon, she had an amazing time. Staff were welcoming and treated her like a peer, other patrons were super nice and supportive. We both felt like we were at home in the gym. It did not feel overly bro-ey, people keep their shirts on, support one another, etc. This gym is creating a climbing culture and community where everyone can feel welcome and supported! Terra is a great bouldering gym & I have been coming for years! I enjoy sport climbing more than bouldering, but Terra has the best facility excel in your climbing goals!
The fitness classes that Terra Firma offers have been the best supplemental workout for my climbing! I have been a regular to the fitness classes on Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday mornings, and I have nothing but great things to say about the class and the instructor!
Isaiahβs classes are perfect for any level of fitness. There are always easier or harder modifications if you are proficient or lacking in a certain muscle group! If you havenβt signed up for one yet, make sure you try one out!
I only have positive things to say about this gym! Only change I would love to see is more early hour days for the 9-5 workers π
Would highly recommend getting a day pass/membership and experience it for yourself!

I'm honestly surprised at the near 5 star rating... It was well maintained and clean but definitely not build for beginners. Very few pink (beginner) courses, many of which were too easy; but then you try the next level and there's no way to even get half way up. The gym is big enough to where they could have specific areas of the gym for each skill level; my girlfriend and I are first timers and we often felt in the way of the experienced people. That or the experienced people were climbing across the entire wall face, hogging all the routes. Staff was friendly to start, but very aloof after checkout. Could easily earn their near 5 star if ran/set up properly and be far more inviting to beginners who might want to get into the sport.

Nice bouldering gym in Grand Rapids, MI. There's 4 bouldering areas and good variety on routes for all skills.
The upstairs has more functional training with electric climbing wall, barbells, CrossFit style gym area, free weights.
I enjoy having a remote work day here. The first floor has 8 chairs/stools with a bar with plenty of outlets for your electronics. The snack bar and beverages are very vegan friendly and healthy alternatives!

I started climbing about 9 months ago at Terra, and it is hands down one of my favorite places ever. Their routes are always super fun- even the lower level routes are still interesting and challenge you to actually consider your body movement instead of just climbing up like a ladder. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the free classes that they offer are really great ways to learn and improve your climbing. There is absolutely no gatekeeping here, which is a really valuable and rare thing to find in gym spaces like this. Everyone is welcome, and there's enough variety and challenge that any climber, regardless of experience level, will enjoy the routes. The facilities are clean and always improving, there are new routes each week, and the prices are very reasonable. You'd be hard pressed to find a place as well run and welcoming as Terra Firma.

I started bouldering 5 months ago, and after going to a large climbing gym in Houston, I realize how spoiled I am at Terra Firma. Terra has an overall very friendly vibe. The staff, the routes, and the other members are all approachable and welcoming. One or two of the walls are changed up each week, keeping things fresh, and the holds and general facility are taken excellent care of. In Houston, the holds (especially foot chips) were dirty and, at times, coated in rubber to the point of indistinguishable color. I have never had that issue at Terra Firma. Also, I'm loving the new sink and first aid carts. Owners, keep up the good work!

I loved this place, although I am not a professional by any means, I didn't feel out of place watching all the others with skills far greater than mine. The place was not crowded when I went in 2019, although I do not know what it looks like this year. The staff was very informative and made me feel very comfortable. I honestly can't wait until I can return. This was the most fun I have ever had on a rock wall! Definitely check it out, you will all love it.

Great space for climbing and beginner friendly. Can get pretty busy on a Saturday but I still really enjoyed myself and will be back soon.

music in this place is amazing. Good beginner and mid level routes. iβm usually climbing V2βs and V3βs right now, this place had many problems that were super fun but also provided a good challenge. My friend who had never climbed before was having so much fun!
did i mention the music was amazingβ¦

Great gym. I would consider it an entry level climbing gym. Good people go here and has a good environment. Wish they had more options for families with young children who like to climb
