I went and toward the gym. The gym is dirty, no air on, the locker rooms are so dirty. The sauna and steam room were disgusting. The hygiene of this place is not there. The gym is out dated for its time. Thereโs no excuse for it to be outdated when other YMCAs are so nice compared to this. I never thought Planet fitness would be a 5 star compared to this place.
Staff is super friendly, they are just unfortunate to be working in poor work conditions.

During the week they are open late and on weekends close by 4pm. This is odd and inconvenient.
I have used almost everything and met moat of the staff. I have to say I like it all and am very comfortable. Aside from the hours it's perfect. Clean. Lots of different things to use from swimming to Spa to step climber do indoor walking Track and basketball.

0/10 โ The only gym in Lansing where you have to whisper while playing basketball. The director runs the place like itโs his personal property, and itโs clear they only care about the pickleball crowd. No upgrades to the gym since it opened, and Iโve watched it go downhill year after year. Membership, community, and fellowship have all disappeared. This place used to mean somethingโnow itโs just a disappointment.

I use the track and take the Enhanced fitness class 3 days a week. The large studio room is freezing cold. The temp I am told is set at 65 degrees. This particular class are all Senior Citizens, I am 71 and pretty fit, many in the class range in age up to 90+ and varying degrees of fitness. Stop in and see us working out in coats....it's ridiculous. We are cold!

Been waiting for literal years for them to fix their handicapped ramp. Not only have I broken wheelchairs (yes plural) but I have met at least two elderly people who have stated that the ramp have caused them to fall. Have blown money on redoing the parking lot but can't even fix such an important thing. Have left numerous messages about this too. For being a community place it doesn't feel like they really care about the people.

DISCRIMINATION ALERT!! As other comments mentioned you will be treated differently unfortunately due to โskin toneโ and โreligionโ. Today the doors were literally slammed in front of my kids aged 4 and younger and they refused to let them in child watch claiming it was at full capacity when two white kids happily were accepted seconds after our refusal. We arenโt afraid of discrimination as adults but to let your kids feel unaccepted is the worse feeling. When complaining to the other staff members they just shrugged and they seem to not know what to do. The manager has taken details but most likely you can tell that is the norm there. We didnโt feel โsafeโ to continue our membership in any of the ymca so we are leaving them. If you have a child of color โ ITS NOT SAFE FOR YOUR CHILD TO STAY THERE EVEN FOR FEW MINUTES

This Ymca is old. Equipment is old and in bad shape. The gym floor around the Equipment is a mess. The steam room wreaks of mildew. There are only 4 small mirrors in the main lifting area and it gets pretty busy so forget trying to see yourself workout. They do not have enough equipment for the amount of people that come in. For the price I feel like they need to do some updating

They have the drop in childcare in the mornings now, which is a big plus for me. They have limited floor space, and all the machines are crowded in. On the flip side, there are tons of machines lol. Itโs a little loud. But itโs a decent place. They have a Jacobโs ladder.
Edit:
At the tot watch today there was a particularly antagonistic employee. I brought my children in (we have been four or five times to this location), and was informed they could not take my children today because we are utilizing our nationwide membership. I was confused because we have been there before a few times.
Instead of trying to find a solution, she left it at that and left me to try to find and talk to a superior. I Can hear my child screaming this whole time, I find someone who says my kids can stay, and I have to go back in to talk to her (upsetting my child again after she had calmed down). This employee made no effort to soothe my child while in my presence. I didnโt once see her interact with one of my other children either.
This YMCA did not try to find any solution to this problem. At my home YMCA, if they are not โin the systemโ at that particular location, I simply fill out a form and they can be accepted. This employee came across as standoffish, glib and finally smug once she succeeded in kicking my children out. I feel like she took out her initial failure to kick my kids out on my children.
This YMCA did not uphold their mission statement for me or my children who are all active members:
โWe offer this because we want to help you reach your health and wellness goals wherever you live, work, or travel. This is an essential part of our mission to strengthen communities. โ
Edit: a manager confirmed that nationwide memberships are not accepted for the kids. During this whole debacle not one person said sorry; not sorry for the inconvenience or sorry for the misunderstanding. Very unwelcoming.

The staff have always been nice so thats not an issue but for the pricing this place asks its not worth it. It has not been updated since i was here as a child so assuming since it was built! The water slide has not been up an running since we got a memership months ago neither has the rock wall! We got the membership for the swimmimg an the water slide for the kids The pool is not always open for family swim an if it is irs not long the steam room smells moldy. So we will be canceling our membership as i dont see the point in keeping itโฆ.. seems like this place is falling apart

The hours at this YMCA are not great compared to most other YMCA's. They used to be open much earlier and later. They reduced hours due to COVID, wich is understandable, but the pandemic is easing and they haven't restored hours. The facility is pretty clean and the staff is friendly though. They have a lot of feature and equipment. Including a pool, steam room, and dry sauna. The membership fee is decent as well.

I'm a Silver Sneakers member at this facility. The building is large with two stories. The location is in an area that's tucked away in a nice treed location. Plenty of parking.
I can't say enough about this facility from it's lobby with a small snack area and vending machines to the front desk crew. They are polite and knowledgeable of this facility. It is well secured well monitored cameras and manned security on site.
From a roller rink and one mile walking track to areas for boxing and handball. The five lane pool is open for all along with a smaller area for kids. It has a slide too. The machine room and weight areas are generous. Enough space for equipment for usage with plenty to choose from. All types of bikes. Weights. Nautilus and more. Classrooms for instructional sessions. Large men's, women's and family locker rooms. Showers, saunas and steam rooms in each.
Can't say enough about this particular facility and the Silver Sneakers program and their association with US YMCAs.

I got a membership here for the pool and would go a few times a week. The staff is friendly and helpful. The locker room was always clean, although several of the lockers are kinda warped or busted. They have a steam room and a sauna. If you go in the middle of the day, there's usually a lane free for lap swimming. People are nice and will share lanes if it's busy. Most of the lifeguards are attentive and professional. Overall I like this pool a lot, but from time to time it was a little dirty.

Broken gym floor, unused skate rental, old equipment, rock wall that's never open, kiddy pool slide has never been open for as long as I remember. Improvements are in dire need I barely want to spend my money then they raised the membership I'm low-key offended but my health is more important I just hope this Y turns around cause as of now I'm highly disappointed and always tryna find a better experience elsewhere but the close proximity and the available amenities keep me. I like the sauna, the steam room, and the hot tub. If it's money let's pray that Kyle Kuzma donates a million to the westside YMCA of Lansing. PS the children's summer camp used to be A1 before COVID, after there was a major regression, the choices are no longer abundant, and the spots are much more limited which is a staffing thing so it's understandable.

They need to do some serious work on this place. We have been going on and off for years. I always liked it, but they absolutely refuse to update anything. My son is getting older now and refuses to use the men's locker room because it's "old, smells bad and he has no privacy". There's not a private place to shower or get dressed. The family bathroom is hot, old and disgusting too. The showers in the ladies room go freezing cold as soon as more than two stalls are in use. The shower heads are so low you bang the back of your neck into them while showering. They are horrible!! On the positive side, they do have lots of old equipment, we love the racket ball, and they have sanitization stations everywhere. I just don't understand why they won't make any improvements or updates.

After nearly two decades of playing in a roller hockey league at this location and being strung along in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic this facility told our league we were no longer part of their plans going forward. After over 2 decades of us paying league dues we were unceremoniously dumped. They now have the comical sight of a myriad of exercise bikes all over the hockey rink. Perhaps because they make more money off of spin classes? How Christian of them. Duplicitous behavior by the upper management, they ought to be ashamed of themselves. Many I know will never visit here again or have cancelled their Y memberships altogether unless/until amends are made.

Not interfaith friendly neither in the staff nor the members. I am Hindu Buddhist and they told me I am inferior unless I accept Jesus Christ as my only one and true personal savior. Coworkers went against my successive employment and against a free Buddhist book distribution on the other side of a country. My Buddhist preceptor, a celibate monk, visited and willed my public birth which was not accepted and was not respected about the hot tub. Employees invited me to a party and gave me bogus instructions. The employees lured others into conversations about unwholesome activities making them sound like they also participated in them and then flipped it and said "oh those are things we actually do not do," which is fine for me, but probably misled some other people. More interested in labeling others sinners than in sharing religion.
There were some moments of understanding, respect and humane treatment.

I was in the area for work so I decided to go to it as I expect a certain standard when it comes to the name. When I arrived, I thought it looked a little ran down but that doesn't mean anything about quality necessarily. I was greeted very pleasantly and told where everything was that I asked. I did notice that everything seemed so dimly lit and not warm and welcoming as far as environment. I walked into the locker room and felt like I was walking through a curtain of sweat and musk, yes the sauna is in there so that could be why but the sweat marks on the wall, the feeling of sweat in the air, just felt uncomfortable. I proceeded to change and go to the weight room and I was unfortunately disappointed there as well. I have a background in fitness, and have been to many facilities all over so my expectations are probably higher than most. The age of the equipment, lack of abundance and selection just led to more disappointment to me. I went to the locker room, grabbed my stuff and when to the planet fitness a few minutes away. I went to the Y to be able to lift with barbells and free weights but it just pulled the energy and excitement away too much. As far as anyone's concern, this was just my experience with my background, the facility does have all the minimum qualities and necessities to be a credible gym, just not for me.
