I’ve been a member of the newly opened W.O.L.F. Gym since day one, and it’s already a great place to train. I workout for my mental health and to stay active, and now I’m preparing for my first lifting competition. They have a wide variety of equipment for me to train with, and Jana is an outstanding trainer. The staff and members are friendly and welcoming, the gym and locker rooms are clean, and the owners are continually adding new equipment and building a great environment to train in. I highly recommend them!

I workout at a lot of gyms and this place just opening and is in the conversation for best gym in Michigan. It has some of the best and most modern chest and leg equipment as well as everything you need of you are an old-school lifter. Staff if great and the positivity community around fitness this brand is building is something special.

A lot of older used equipment, which is fine but don't be fooled by the reviews calling it "state of the art", broken adjustment pins, old barbells with the knurling worn away, hockey tape covering the pull-up handles on the cable machine that leaves black residue all over your hands instead of grips being replaced, etc.
Missing some pretty key things:
- T-bar row
- EZ curl bars
- Preacher curl
- More than one smith machine
- Extra plates on weight racks
Worse than average music playing, an inoperable urinal that stinks pretty bad in the bathroom, and a cold plunge with stagnant water (no idea how that’s sanitary).
It has great potential, but it’s definitely not ready for the premium price point of 20 dollar day passes or 60 dollar monthly memberships at all.

Alright, before I get into this long post about my experience at WOLF in Waterford, let me first say that I’ve been a fitness manager, trainer, wellness coordinator, and presale specialist for premium fitness brands (Orangetheory, D1 Training, Club Pilates, etc.) for the last 10 years of my life. I say that because WOLF is marketed as a premium fitness experience.
At $50 a month—compared to places like Crunch or Planet Fitness that charge $10–$15 a month you’d expect premium services and an elevated experience from the second you walk in.
Now, I know this gym is still under construction, but my review has nothing to do with the kind of equipment they have or don’t have at the moment. I understand that things take time, and I’m sure by their grand opening it’ll be fully functional. As a fitness business professional, these are the things I immediately started to analyze when walking in:
---
**1.** When I walked in, the associate did not come out from behind the desk to introduce himself. Small gestures like that are what separate a smaller premium gym from a big box gym. He then had me fill out a long and lengthy membership form just for a day pass. That form would have been the perfect opportunity for the associate to assist and engage in conversation asking discovery questions.
Piggybacking off that, there were no discovery questions asked at all. I even tried to open the door for that conversation by mentioning I work out at different gyms, that I had a friend who goes there, and that I live in the area. Not once was I asked about my fitness goals, why I was trying the gym out, or what kind of workouts my buddy and I enjoy. I walked away with them knowing nothing about me.
---
**2.** The bathroom was filthy. One of the urinals was covered in mud and dirt and smelled horrible. Having a clean, sanitary bathroom should be a **basic** priority—especially when first opening and trying to make a strong impression.
---
**3.** The workout was fine. Like I said, they’re obviously missing some equipment, but any novice or experienced lifter could easily adapt with what they currently have.
---
**4.** When I left, nobody said a word to me. I’m not even sure if anyone was still there. I can’t fathom having a new prospect in my gym for the first time and not even having a conversation with them after their first workout.
---
**5.** I wanted to be fair and give them another shot, so my buddy and I planned to go back this morning at 8 a.m. on a Saturday. When we arrived, we saw that they don’t have staff until 10 a.m.
As a new gym trying to make a strong start, **that’s outrageous**. Not having staff available until 10 a.m. on a weekend sends the wrong message about commitment to service and member support.
---
These are just my honest thoughts about my experience there. I hope others had better first impressions than I did.
