Best yoga studio in Michigan! I've been in and out of the area, and going to Yoga State for years, and no other studio in Michigan is doing what YS is doing. Teachers are welcoming and encouraging, classes are fun and challenging, the studios themselves are gorgeous and the owner Jen has clearly put her whole heart and soul into this place. Great place to take classes if you're experienced or to try hot yoga for the first time. Definitely the place if you want to build a yoga practice, feel better, and find a welcoming community.

I love this place!!!! The environment is calm, yet energizing and motivating, and I am always excited to attend classes here. Payton is an amazing yoga teacher—with her thorough instruction and added humor—and I love her mindful and moderate and essential vinyasa classes!! She always pushes me to continue growing and improving, all with an encouraging approach. I feel like I further my knowledge of yoga and mindfulness with every class I attend, and the instructors meet you where you are without judgment. Everyone should take a class here!!!!

I’m visiting from out of town.. I’ve been practicing here for a two weeks & have done around 4-5 classes so far .. I love the layout of this studio.. it beautiful 😻 I love the floor, the offerings of vinyasa classes & overall I looked forward to coming here every other evening.
🧘🏻♀️
The vinyasa sequences by every teacher is always so great, creative, different, and overall this is a wonderful studio & will continue to practice for my month stay until I return home. Thank you so much for this experience! Blessings

Hannah’s hot vinyasa class was excellent and I will return!

The owner is incredibly compassionate and understanding of anxieties and concerns of clients. She took my concerns very seriously and I have nothing but appreciation for her. Definitely make it clear to the instructor you have before class if you have any concerns or anxieties about the workout, as they are understanding and accommodating :)

I loved yoga state from the very first class I took with Jen Hayes! One class is all it took to make the world of a difference in my mental and physical health. After that one class I continued to practice yoga and learn from all the amazing teachers. I used to attend school at MSU so it wasn’t hard to come to class. Today I live a bit farther (2 hours) and still drive to yoga state every once in a while to take a class. Try it out for yourself !!!

I’ve tried different yoga studios before but there’s no place like Yoga State. The classes are challenging yet supportive, pushing you to explore your limits in a safe environment. The instructors create an atmosphere that encourages growth and mindfulness, making each session enriching. I miss Yoga State dearly ever since I moved out of East Lansing; it was the ultimate place to deepen my practice and connect with a vibrant community. Yoga State is and always will be my home💜

I joined Yoga State back in January when my doctor recommended I try yoga. That first class was challenging to say the least. I kept going back! They became family. Now I take 5-6 classes per week and I feel like I manage stress better and I'm physically in better shape. I love all the instructors. You definitely can't just come once and judge based on that. Try different classes and find what you love. There is a class for everyone.

As someone with a dance degree, having trained under Boston Ballet company members, and with 20 years of dance experience, this was the worst yoga class ever with Tim Dunaev. Even though he never demonstrated the flow, he would still yell at you for doing the wrong thing. Tim also passive aggressively told the entire class that "We needed to improve their listening skills," as a result of me drinking water and modifying the flow to make it more challenging.

The first issue is parking is a problem. Unless you live within walking distance, it's not worth it to overpay for parking when their Okemos location has free parking.
The second issue is that the classes were too focused on the instructor talking and not on just flowing to the music.
Aside from that, the room was indeed hot, and you do get a decent workout in.

I started my yoga journey during COVID, alone via online videos. I needed a safe space to practice once the pandemic ended. My friend suggested I join her at Yoga State. I was amazed by the beauty of the East Lansing Studio. Every detail gave a sense of peace and calm. (the Okemos studio is the same-check out the floors in both studios-amazing) The instructors are so welcoming and I appreciate when they stop and correct my form. I am always pleased when they say something in a class that I had never thought of to make the form better. There are people of all ages and abilities in the classes but you can choose a type of class you like better (hot, slow, fast, BUTI or even paddleboard in the summer on the lake!!!) The classes can be challenging or relaxing and even fun. I feel a real sense of community here. Try a couple of different classes and instructors to get your feel. After every class, I leave more grounded, calm, energized and feeling good about myself.

Love Yoga State!! Such a great place to find community and practice great yoga. Since graduating, I have struggled to find a studio anywhere near as welcoming and enjoyable. Jen is a fabulous yogi, instructor, and all around human being. 10/10 recommend!

I have attended a couple of classes over the past few weeks as i wanted to Get some workouts in while traveling in the US. My american friend recommended Yoga State. I was sceptical at first because I dont train Yoga normally but I had some great Yoga classes! At the entrence I was met by a very nice and helpfull lady who owned the studio. Her name was Jenn. She helped me sign up for classes and explained everything for me. It was easy to understand what they where saying Even if english is not my first language. She also introdused me to Payton who’s classes i’ve been attending. That way I was able to talk to my instructor before class, and could explain that Im a beginner. Im not gonna lie, the classes where hard, but Payton did a really good job guiding me through all of it, and Even tho i struggled (because i have no bodystrenght lol) it was alot of fun!! I got the feeling that the instructors really want you to succeed, but also Are not afraid to push you when needed. I would definetly go back if I got the chance:)

I've done hot yoga one other time so I thought I had a basic idea of what to expect; however, the environment that I came into was not positive, welcoming or supportive. The pace was very fast, I felt extremely judged by the instructor and although I can receive feedback, I did not appreciate it being presented in such a negative tone, to the point that I felt embarrassed to even be in the class. I did not enjoy the music, the instructor did not know how to describe the moves correctly either which made me feel more confused and unsure of what to do. Would not recommend if you are still at a beginner level in regard to skills.

I love Yoga State! Every class is different and each teacher has their own style. I love Payton's 7:15pm Hot Vinyasa class to unwind after a long day. Recently I've been enjoying Rachel's 5:45 BUTI class on Sundays too, its super fun and has great music! All the classes are a great workout and escape from everyday life. Yoga State is amazing and I really feel a sense of community when I show up for class.

Yoga State holds a special place in my heart. I started practicing here in 2019 off and on. After the pandemic returning to class here felt safe. Each class I have taken, the teachers have been caring and down to earth. If you talk to them before class they genuinely listen.
My favorite classes are Payton’s Wednesday 7pm and Sunday noon classes! Payton has a wonderful voice that is upbeat and positive. This helps so much during class to motivate me and help me get better each time I go!
This studio and its teachers meet you where you are. Once you have the flow built you are set free to add in or keep the original flow. Every class I attend I see some improvement and n myself or get into a pose I wasn’t able to before! Highly recommend Yoga State!

I’m sure the practice overall is wonderful, but had a traumatic experience - the instructor, Peyton I believe their name was, refused to allow two different participants to step into the hall to refill water or take a break, and highly discouraged taking a break to rest. Said that the participants in downward dog were “suffering” and that until every member of the room held the position for 3 breaths no one could stop.
Overcrowded the room, 52 people in one session, mat to mat, and started the class 15 minutes late due to more people arriving.
Music was loud and hype, not very relaxing or yoga like. Felt more like a boot camp than a yoga class, due to the pressure to continue participating even when pain or dizziness was the problem. Told a participant that they had three breaths to get back in.
Overall loved the ambiance of the lobby but would not recommend taking classes with this instructor

This place is fantastic!!!!!! I was blown away by the tranquil and welcoming atmosphere of this yoga studio, which is truly stunning. Each instructor is very knowledgeable and attentive, making sure to give each student individual attention. There is something for everyone in the classes, which cover a wide range of styles and levels. The studio itself is neat and well-kept, and it has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I always feel rejuvenated and reenergized after each class. In general, this yoga studio is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a high-quality yoga experience. It has transformed my life, and I've been coming here for a whole year! The classes at Yoga Stare are, without a doubt, the most challenging I've ever taken in a studio, but they're also the most fun and interesting, not to mention also the most beneficial I’ve taken. The challenge is what keeps me coming back because they have shown me how resilient and strong I am. It also smells awesome in here!!!!! And doing all of the hot yoga makes your skin glow I think, I actually think that this place turns you into a super model and a super hero at the same time… just sayin

Yoga State is the most unique, authentic, and FUN studio in the area! I was fortunate to come across this studio in 2018. I was trying out all of the local studios to find where I wanted to take a teacher training program. After just one of Jen’s classes, I knew I wanted to learn from her, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The community at Yoga State is welcoming and positive, and I am so grateful for an amazing group of teachers that inspire me, and everyone who takes class, to become the best versions of ourselves. The classes at Yoga Stare are definitely the most challenging I have experienced in a studio setting before, and at the same time they are the most fun and interesting. They have taught me how resilient and strong I am, and the challenge is what keeps me coming back. I also love the slow flows and yin classes that are offered that really help to round out my own personal practice. If you are looking for a yoga studio with a quirky, unique vibe, a fun and knowledgeable group of teachers, and challenging, creative classes this is the place for you!

When I first started yoga, I was not really a fan. I found it too boring and repetitive. I really wanted to like it because of all the benefits, so I kept trying different yoga studios. Then I found Yoga State and I immediately knew this would be my forever yoga home! It was like no other studio. The flows were so fun and every class is different so you are not stuck in a repetitive routine. The teachers create a safe environment for their students to prevent any injury. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced yogi, you will definitely be challenged which is what we need in order to grow. Changes don’t happen in your comfort zone. I would give Yoga State 10/10 hands down!

I've been to other studios in the area and Yoga State is the one I landed at. The teachers focus on guiding you with their voices, rather than their bodies, which allows them to attentively observe their students and individualize their cues. The teachers guide the classes with a loving firmness that holds you accountable to putting in your best effort so you get the most benefit from each class. This is something that really sets this studio apart. Whether you are a new or experienced yoga student, you will find classes that challenge you here, which is a good thing, because that is what allows you to grow ❤️

Yoga state is the best place to practice yoga. The vibes of the studio are exceptional. I couldn’t recommend coming in for a class more. Every teacher has their own style, so every class is different and a lot of fun! The music is always so good and fun to flow to. The classes are challenging in the best way, and you’re really held accountable which we all need from time to time. Every time I leave the studio, I leave feeling better than I arrived.

This is a great place to begin your yoga journey! I took my first class in 2017 and it was definitely challenging, but that's what drove me to come back. Each time I was able to do a little more and enjoy it more! I learned so much about yoga philosophy and the physical side of things just from attending classes! The growth in myself that I observed was amazing! I went through the 200 hour teacher training program here in 2019 and I can't even possibly express how grateful I am that I happened upon this studio. I have taken at all of the other studios in town over the years and nothing compares to the care and compassion that the teachers at Yoga State have for their students! Thank you Yoga State!!
Don't be afraid of the challenge!! Everything in life that is good should make you uncomfortable! If you feel that uncomfortable feeling, you know that change is coming and in this safe environment that has been created, the only outcome is something so amazing!!
I recommend taking from Jen if you want to get really real with yourself and what you can accomplish!!! You will grow so much so fast!

Yoga State is like a second home to me! I’m so happy to have wandered into this studio 4 years ago. It is a warm, welcoming atmosphere and the classes challenge you in the best possible way. Flows are fun, unique, and give space for creative expression (which I love as a former dancer/gymnast). The teacher training program here is an amazing experience! I couldn’t imagine taking this training from anyone but Jen. She’s simply the best at what she does. I’ve met such awesome people through this and have not only seen its benefit in my practice but in my daily life also.

YS is amazing studio to practice yoga at all levels. The instructors are are very welcoming and helpful. This is different from other yoga studios in good ways. It's a very relaxed atmosphere. The classes are set in dimly lit rooms with modern music that's paced to the yoga making it motivational and entertaining. All the instructors are extremely knowledgeable and make the classes really impactful. This is a great place to learn yoga. Hot Yoga is available here along with many other yoga classes. They also offer good advice on the best yoga mats. If you've taken yoga other places, just at home or it's your first time yoga state hot yoga is a great place to check out. They have two locations, one in East Lansing and in Okemos.

Facilities are absolutely gorgeous and they have a large variety and expansive class schedule. I like that there are plenty of affordable drop in options. If you are looking for quality instruction, or are newer to yoga, I would not go here. The instructors don’t correct poor form, music is so loud and it’s dark in the room which makes it difficult to follow what they are instructing, and the classes are so packed that the instructor doesn’t have room to demonstrate.
I did attend one session where the instructor briefly massaged everyone’s face at the end when our eyes were closed. I didn’t mind so much, but she did not ask anyone for permission to touch them. And it was a bit gross (unsanitary) to have her touch your face after touching other faces especially when it’s hot yoga.

I highly recommend Yoga State of Mind Body and Soul. This studio will always hold a special place in my heart. I originally started taking yoga classes at the studio back in late 2015 I later took Jen Hayes' 200 hr yoga teacher training in 2017. Can I say AMAZING! I could go on and on about that. I later became a Yoga Instructor and Spin Instructor for the studio and even held a marketing internship which was mandatory for my degree at Michigan State University. All I can say is Yoga State of Mind Body and Soul impacted me in wonderful ways. I met friends, felt part of the community, was taught life skills. All the teachers have their own spin on their class which is what helps make the studio so unique. Oh did I mention? TWO locations! This is great for those who might not be located right next to campus. All I can say is this studio is highly recommended. There is a large class selection, great teachers, wonderful customer service, its the whole package! I also suggest getting to know the owner Jen, she is phenomenal!

There is an endless amount of positive words I could say about Jen and the community she has created with Yoga State. I completed the teacher training in the spring of 2019 and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. I could not have asked for a more gratifying experience. Jen has put an endless amount of devotion, knowledge, and passion into not only the training, but her teaching, her students and her studios. I commuted from grand rapids for the training and it was worth every mile and every hour spent in the car. If I could spend every day taking a class here I would. The teachers know their sh**, keep their classes fresh, and align you just right. They push you to your edge and really take the time to acknowledge each practitioner. This community cares for each individuals growth, whether you're a first timer or have been practicing in the studio for some time. I don't know where I would be without Yoga State.

I wouldn't recommend beginning your yoga journey here if you are a beginner, with respect to a few teachers that are excellent with beginning yogis. Most of the classes here are hot and by hot I mean on the dangerous side of hot. Yoga is about being aware if what your body is telling you, and not pushing too hard. With that being said, many newer yogis do not realize that you can stop when your body says stop, and that's when a heated class as hot as the ones here become dangerous.
On the upside, if you have a developed practice, this place is great and provides many opportunities to flow freely.
I highly recommend taking classes from the following teachers:

I go to Yoga State at least once a week and frequent Liv and Brittany's classes. I highly recommend going to one of their classes if you're a beginner. They help with alignment and are just sweet people. Jen's class is a little intense and can be a little much for beginners but still really great. Both studios are always clean and they lock the doors so that you're valuables are safe as you practice. Definitely very 'zen' and welcoming environment.

Yoga State has by far given me the best physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual experience. I say experience instead of workout because while it is one of my most difficult workouts throughout my week, it is more than a workout- it is a meditation, a lifestyle, a mindfulness exercise, and so much more.
