Clean facilities. Friendly staff.
Great pool- sometimes closes when lifeguard is on break. Four lap lanes - it was empty when I was there at 4pm on a weekday.
I used my out of town membership (from Ohio). I was happy that they gave me guest access.

Worst gym. Be careful!! Their pool service is a scam!
They close the pool 1.5 hr before 8PM when the close the gym. Most people get off at 6, so we wonβt be able to swim at all. If that is the case, your membership price should be a lot cheaper.
Their staff is also rude, trying to turn off the light 10 min before gym close. Never see any of this unprofessional rude service elsewhere. Cancelling my membership right now.

Beautiful space. Great class schedule. Clean facilities. Sadly, my locker was broken into and my personal items were stolen my third day going to this gym. The front desk staff treated me like I was insane when I asked for their help. It was a complete nightmare. I canceled my membership and refuse to go back.

Incredible facility, some great group fitness instructors, but communication re: class cancellations & time changes has been so disappointing. Too bad updates on class changes aren't sent out as often as fundraising messages. They could so easily be posted on their FB page. They need to reopen the beautiful studio on the main floor & use another space for virtual classes.

I suggest paying more money and going to Lifetime. Staff didnβt show at 7 am. The security viewer says this happens during the week as well at 6 am. So if youβre an out of towner like myselfβ¦donβt waste your time. Go to Lifetime where is reliable and has excellent customer service.

Where do I start?
First off, I want to thank the staff for being so friendly and bubbly.
Tbh I was nervous going to any gym, and I have held off going to the one for half of the month because of my anxiety and not knowing how to gym.
All the pressure and anxiety seems to roll off with each visit. I feel more comfortable my third time going. Next time will be my physical exam to see where I'm at. I'm excited

Facility is beautiful, but make sure they communicate with you the price of the membership. I got ripped off. Not only did I already have a membership through my employer whom I get the membership "FREE", but they patched me with another Member in order to offer the other party a discount. We both paid our fair share of the membership "buddy" pricing, but when the other party decided to cancel the membership, there was no heads-up or warning known to me, and I had been paying my share of the membership for months. So this one day I decided to come in and do my usual routine (scan my card, and workout), I was not allowed to without paying $75 because the other party cancelled. I thought that was ridiculous. If anything they should have reduced my membership back to what I had prior to adding me to a buddy system. Maybe suggest adding a membership for just Members who only use the Pool. But the manager, the black male at the desk that was giving direction to everyone was extremely rude and didn't have any conflict resolution skills whatsoever. Didn't even bother to ask me if I wanted my prior membership back. So instead I paid for a day pass ($20), but I promise this place will never get another dime or cent from me again. It's so unsettling when establishments have Managers, but no one wants to or knows how to manage a situation correctly.

Great selection of cardio. Strong focus on making big compound movements available at all times. Equipment is clean. The negative is a major shortcoming for me, and that's cable machines. Small selection of cable machines, low weight limit and awkward to use for any two arm exercises.
Lots of machines, but they are uncomfortable to use. Limited ranges of motion, no way to change grip making injuries more likely.
And there are also no lifting belts which is extremely limiting when trying to push yourself.

When I initially started my my membership with the scholarship and discounts given it was a true blessing to be able to afford it and still have cash left considering the income I was working with so it allowed me to have money left to spend on things particularly that I needed and to give a small portion of it to someone that may have been ineed as well so I couldn't be more appreciative to be able to do both Thank you to the Y.M.C.A

Highly recommend NOT leaving any belongings as the Janitors do an entire sweep of the lockers even if you use the lockers and they are locked your personal belongings will be stolen by the staff and never to be seen again. This makes no sense being that they don't even clean the lockers or even need to go into A LOCKED LOCKER KNOWING SOMONES ITEMS ARE IN THERE its despicable especially since they know exactly what their doing STEALING. It isn't fair to paying customers Nor Is it fair to not even be a concern to any of the staff to check cameras just to keep their co workers safe . Horrible experience plus the hottub doesn't even have hot water nor does the sauna work. I am working on a lawsuit so I can get my things back rest assure that these crooks will pay

So working out in this gym for almost 3 months now and with on those three months some kids(since its ymca and has free school program) have broken into my locker without the code and stole my stuff two times. Mentioned to the authorities there and all I can hear sorry from them .
When you pay premium price you don't expect such things and I have never had such issues in past with any gyms and I have workout in planer fitness. Thats how bad this ymca is.

The reopening of the Dayton YMCA has been disappointing. They opened later than every other gym. The facility is still not fully open. The first floor remains closed, while being one of the most open spaces they have (for social distancing). People were walking around without masks. The hours are extremely limited compared to any other gym.
All of this, yet you pay full price for membership.
Find another gym that is fully open with better hours for less money.

Immaculate facility with state of the art equipment and everything you could ever want including Olympic lifting stations. Friendly staff. The $20 day pass is a bit pricier than other YMCAs nationally but worth it especially if you are taking one of their many classes.
The cycling studio is also state of the art with Stages power bikes and integrated Stages Flight app. You can do a real interval workout in a fun gamified way. The instructor is also great and refills everyone's water midway through the class.

Been going to this gym regularly since December 2018. It is okay. The staff are fantastic and I love the programmable locks in the locker room. The women's locker rooms have been consistently clean when I've gone. I love my personal trainer and the rooftop workout area is amazing.
The problem is the layout. It looks amazing on first viewing but then there are some issues. The space outside of the classrooms spaces is almost entirely dedicated to cardio machines with some weight machines scattered around. There is very limited space for independent weight lifting, stretching, and other movements. If you do crossfit like me, it gets very stressful to have to fight for space and weight equipment when it gets crowded. To be fair, I've seen some improvements on this front where things are being rearranged to make the space easier to maneuver.
Unfortunately, there are other aspects of the layout that can't be remedied. Someone thought it was a great idea to put a basketball court on top of the yoga studio (it's very loud in the studio when you're trying to relax and a pick-up game is going on), or not double pane the windows in the fishbowl that is the powerhouse so it isn't freezing in the dead of winter or placed the powerhouse (with weights and music) right under the wellness center (again, very loud when you're trying to relax). The gym doesn't feel like it was planned with a lot of thought about what each piece would entail.
Finally, my last complaint is that area in downtown the gym is located is surrounded by one ways or bus only streets making the hunt for street parking very difficult and on top of that you have to pay for it. Recent'y they have been offering discounted parking at a parking ramp but still have to pay for it. If you live or work near the skyway, it's very easy to get to but if not, it's very difficult. I have found the bus is the best way but it is time consuming. Biking works too but the area is a hotbed for bike thievery so you take your chances.

!FLAGSHIP GARBAGE - 1st FLOOR IS NOW OPEN! --- for common folk.
I don't want anything on my FACE so please remove the virtual world equipment that no one uses and bring back the nasty big old bad Jacob's Ladder. Jacob's Ladder calorie burn is 12 to 20 calories a minute that means I can finish a workout and go eat a whole pizza. Bring it!
A single day guest pass to the Y is 40 dollars for an individual. Dinner and drinks are not included!
There is no way the design came from anyone that has ever worked out. I can prove it too. Just do a bunch of pull ups on the stupid Queenax which feels like a flexible gymnastics bar and shreds your hands. Need some more proof just watch Precor's demo video on YouTube of the Queenax. Do you think the fitness expert enjoys the same feeling on her hands at 7:08 in the video? No way would a Lifetime or any of the other chains go this low.
There also needs to be a pull-up bar installed in the northeast stretching area made of metal not plastic.
The pilates room that never pilates is cute. If you use the machines 2 or 3 times a week just put them to the side and pull them out as needed. Everything depreciates from space to machines. The facility isn't perfect but it has major room for improvement.

If you like stationary cardo equipment and group classes, you'll like this gym.
The space to do other activities is very limited. Even though it's a circular space, they didn't put a track on a single level. The strength training area is well-stocked but with a crowded, poor layout. There are very few spaces to do other exercises (eg, stretch, dance, pilates, yoga). The one area that is kind of open has a turf grass floor. After using this area, I woke up the next day with small cuts all over my hands and legs.
I will say the gym was clean and the staff were friendly. It's just not a good space for the exercise I enjoy.

Pros: New and unique layout. Great downtown views.
Cancellation is super easy. You can cancel at their service desk up front and they do it for you no questions asked. Monthly memberships.
Cons: Sales people who help you with the tour don't help you learn how to use the locker combinations. Yes, I followed the directions on the sign, but locker still wouldn't open.
Not nearly enough strength machines available. One of the main reason I cancelled membership.
Workout rooms/classes are way too small to accommodate for a busy downtown crowd. Not enough room to actually MOVE your body. They just make you jump up and down a lot in the classes. Can't do any actual interesting or challenging exercises due to too many people and too small of a room.
The fitness classes I tried there were really boring and totally unfulfilling. Usually after a really good fitness class I always feel energized and stronger right after and for the following days. The classes at the YMCA does not provide the right kind of training, you do not feel stronger or healthier after their classes.
No track available to run around. Considering that the space is an oval, I'm really surprised they didn't include a track on their 3rd floor. Would've been the perfect fit. Duh.
Guess it's back to Lifetime Fitness for me instead!

It's a good Gym.
However they need to Offer Vo Lam Kung Fu and other Styles of Martial arts at no Extra cost. They need to improve their Flexibility in allowing people with little to no Money to become Members and I think that they lost their Way when they dropped YMCA Housing for the Poor.
It seems to Profit Motivated now.

Disappointed in the new location. The space seems to have been designed by a committee that has never lifted a weight. It feels like you are working out in an airport or suburban mall. Weight and machine placement is awkward and crucial spaces are cramped. There are lots of bells and whistles that nobody uses like the virtual reality machines. There are dozens of offices and conference rooms but no track, no racquetball, no steam room and half the number of lanes in the pool as in the old location. The management appears enamoured of its marketing campaign and in its effort to be all things to all people has lost sight of its core membership. Less social justice commentary and more space to actually work out.

Brand new state of the art facility and they only have 4 lanes in the pool. It was very hot and humid and not very convenient to walk 2 flights of stairs when you have a bad back just to find out all lanes of the pool are taken and no body is planning on leaving anytime soon. Not very impressed especially since you have to pay for parking just to come here. Not kid friendly.

It's a bit disorienting to find your way throught the 5 or 6 floors of the place, but they've got good equipment and cool locker rooms.
UPDATE: this review was for the previous location. There new one is very chic and urban, but there's no running track. Pool is small. I'm upset by what kind of focus was placed on on the machines for this new one.

I self toured the facility last Saturday. Very nice. I like how the check in is set up. Can't wait to check out the roof top deck. Only thing is idk if it was a good idea to have the locker rooms on a separate floor from the pool unless there is another locker room where the pool is but that area was not open yet when I toured. Overall very nice facility

Stunning new facilities! They're incorporating new technologies in the most fascinating ways, from competitive heart rate tracking to VR training. Gorgeous locker rooms and studios. And I hear a rooftop track is in the works!

The new location is very convenient, well maintained, and has a good variety of equipment and classes. I am giving it 4 stars as in the morning you have to use the far left door in the 6th Street entrance as all the other doors are locked. It's a great solution but as far as I can tell the communication about this solution is poor. Put it on the website and on the automated phone system so people know about it.

Came here for a swimming class. Very nice pool, and my instructors the first two weeks were great, but the girl who did the remaining weeks was not helpful, and I didn't learn or improve at all after the first two weeks. Kept hoping it would be one of the others, but I had her the rest of the time. Someone teaching a more specific (triathlon) class should be more knowledgeable, attentive, and prepared. I paid far too much for something I could have done on my own.

Good, but aging equipment. The real drag is the staff, who can't keep basic supplies at the ready.
