From the first step into the facility I loved this place and the people.
The first thing any faculty like this should accomplish is being welcome and Northgate staff accomplished this with high scores.
I took advantage of the free orientation with Mike (Trainer) and immediately signed up for six more sessions.
Ive been to many places and this has the best vibe.
Congratulations on such a nice place.

Super clean, very thoughtfully laid out. Great mix of hand selected strength equipment. Tons of super nice cardio equipment. Awesome huge locker rooms with saunas! Dan the owner is the nicest guy ever. If I lived in Rochester this would be my gym. I’ll be back for sure!

Great gym with newer updated equipment. The staff and owner is very helpful and provided great service. The men's bathroom is lacking a daily cleaning schedule. If you don't need to use the bathroom than the place is perfect. I did have a conversion with the owner Dan and his answer was it cost to much money to have it cleaned everyday. I wasn't happy with that answer as a paying member

Thanks Dan for acting fast to my bathroom request and fixing the issue.

This is a nice gym with most of the equipment you can ask for. 4 bench presses (2 standard, 1 incline & decline), 4 squatting racks, 2 smith machines, 2 leg presses, 2 hack squat machines, and dumbbell sets up to 120lbs. There are also a variety of cable machines and accessory equipment. For the value from what you pay for the membership, the gym provides you with everything you need.
On a side note, the gym is located near a handful of other businesses. Be careful walking in and out because often there are a lot of people that cut through the parking lot. I’ve almost been hit a couple of times.

Tried it out- just wasn’t for me. Not even the gym itself just this type of lifting in General. But for someone who is, I think it is a fine gym. The owners are great and personable. Dan was up front about the contract which was nice. I’m a runner and just am not ready for this type of gym quite yet. The saunas are definitely a plus! Traffic flow was good at normal busy hours. Got a refund after I decide it was not for me! Dan signed it and thanked me in a note! Would recommend!

I am considering joining this gym so I wanted to check in on its reviews and I am going to jump in and defend this companies star rating. Most negative reviews I have read so far, come across as written by spolied and pretentious brats. No one behaving in these manners, in my experience, are ever worth listening too. As the value of their integrity and hornor does not exist. Unfortunately our social media lifestyles gives a louder voice to these types of people, sad but true. Every company has its ups and downs and considering the last 4 years have been a very challenging existence for public places like a gyms, we as a community should be showing a little compassion and understanding to the difficulies these types of facilities had to endure. My chiropractor attends this gym and he highly recomends it and Chiropractic First is an outstanding business and practice I assure you. I encourage others who attend this gym to take a moment and speak up. I have a feeling I will be back to write and offical review follow up on their services and facilities with a still 5 star. Remember read up but try everything once for yourself most negativity is BS.

Where to begin with this place? Upon entering, you're likely to be greeted by an unsmiling elderly woman with bad hair. I believe she's one of the owners. The vibe is hard to describe. Very odd. Bathrooms for the women are not dirty exactly, but dingy and very rundown. There are bizarre handwritten self congratulatory signs scotch taped up on the wall. The fluorescent lighting in the main area is horrible. Very cold and makes everyone look unwell.
The "classes" for Zumba and yoga appear to typically consist of 2 to 4 people and seem to get cancelled often. The small “Walking track" looks to be done with masking tape by hand. Hilariously crooked. The price is reasonable but the quality of the facilities are reflected in the price. I would recommend looking elsewhere.

I'm an avid gym goer from Chicago. While visiting family here, I got to workout at this gym 3 times and I gotta say it is a very very good gym! From he cleanliness, all the equipment you'll need, the SAUNA, this is a phenomenonal gym! I'm super glad that I was able to workout here! I was hoping to get a free pass to workout there, but I gladly paid the day fee to utilize the amazing gym! Highly recommend! Stop thinking about it, just join this gym already and thank me later!

Been going to these gym for a longtime and last time I went got kicked out. Owner said have to have 24 hours access if I want to go late. I was there before 9pm which means I should have accessed to get it. And for the price i used to paid! Better take my business somewhere better.

North Gate Health Center not only prioritizes money but also treats clients with disrespect. A money-hungry establishment that lacks basic courtesy – an utterly unpleasant experience. AVOID AT ALL COST. There are many other gyms, literally any other gym is better.

I usually don’t leave reviews unless the experience calls for one and this certainly does! If I could leave 0 stars I absolutely would but I have to do 1 ⭐️ in order to post my review. If you’re looking to join Northgate health club make sure you read through EVERY single review & talk to people who’s been there. Paying $45+ a month for a STUDENT gym membership where management doesn’t know how to treat their own employees should’ve shown me they wouldn’t treat their customers any better. They can keep upgrading their machines to the best of the best but their lack of customer service and support will keep pushing out members who’s been there from day 1. I rather work out in a gym I feel welcomed, comfortable and SUPPORTED!

I get so anxious going to the gym alone because I don’t understand how to use some of the machines and I try to keep my workout simple so I don’t look awkward trying to figure it out. If I don’t understand how to use a machine, there’s a way to go about it instead of singling people out in the middle of their workout giving them a lecture. The old man in blue walked up to my bf and I acting like he was giving us “advice” but basically turned it into a lecture ending it with “if we want to ruin his machines we can purchase one for $6000 and put it in our garage and do what we want with it” … like excuse me? I have no problem accepting accountability but when you come to talking to me like I’m a child we definitely have a problem! What you not about to do is talk down to us I don’t care what the situation is, respect goes both ways! He literally was talking to my bf & I like we’re a child talking about “I’m right and you’re wrong”. We canceled our membership INSTANTLY, not that they care because his counterpart will just as quickly hand you a paper to fill out and “wish you well”

I also recall another experience where I was trying to record MYSELF working out & making sure nobody else was in it and the old man in blue 🙄 came up to me telling me I’m not allowed to do that because people complaining about seeing themselves in videos online… umm okay, but did you tell the other 50 members doing the same thing daily including your OWN trainers? I respect everyones privacy and you’ll never see anyone else in my videos! But dude come on it’s 2023 - who DOESNT record their workouts for business/personal reasons?

Management is SOOO “nice” to you when your first join the gym and after that you’re on your own, because it’s all about the money (duhh)! & make sure you read the fine prints in the 1000 page contract because they’ll trap you in a membership so HARD to get out of with ridiculous membership fees on top of what you’re already paying.
There’s not enough fancy machines they can add to ever make me go back especially with their current management. The way you treat your clients goes a along way, I’ll never recommend this overpriced gym to anyone.

UPDATE: In response to their “response” -

I’d like to see footage of whatever inappropriate behavior we were doing that doesn’t align with this gym. I literally had my BF there the entire time helping me with the machine and I didn’t even have weights added because my legs were so sore. He EXPLAINED to you that he was targeting different muscles hence the reason he wasn’t using resistance which you wanted him to do. No instructions were offered from you, you came over to us wanting to tell us how to do our own workout routine on a LEG EXTENSION MACHINE 🤦🏾‍♀️. I guess because he straight up called you out for harassing us you got mad. We pay to use your gym like anyone else nobody is looking for PRIVILEGES here! I hope y’all provide such “instructions” to other members slamming weights in the floor ever single day.

Its old and dated. The cable machine broke and it took them over a mouth to fix it. Bye that time i had enough of the dated equipment. And canceled my membership. They still charged me mouths after. Sad to say but planet fitness is a way better gym.

First off if I could have left a negative -10 for stars I would 2nd off the owners of this place are all about money and them selfs they terminate people that are the heart and soul of the facility if anyone is looking for a gym that's about people community and love to help others northgate isn't the place. Very dishonest and all about themselves will be going elsewhere.

Me and my husband Ty started attending Northgate mid august. We are both bodybuilders and are very extroverted individuals. However, with my time here I kept to myself and never spoke to any individual. Just focused on my workout, in and out. The only time I ever spoke to anyone was Mike, one of their trainers. My husband had spoken to a few individuals and got to be friends with a particular individual and decided to start working out together, they were friends. Anyway to the point on September 9th our memberships were straight up cancelled. I got an email stating that our memberships have been cancelled “due to behavior and actions detrimental to Northgate Health Club as reported and observed by several club members.”

This was very shocking to us as we have done nothing to proceed these actions. Dan the owner gave me a “courtesy” call at 9pm that night saying that he wanted to let me know that our memberships have been cancelled and that he didn’t want us to be “embarrassed” if we were to walk into the facility. Not sure how I would feel embarrassed but I proceeded to ask him what these “detrimental actions” have been and he just continued to keep saying that he has a lot of evidence from many members calling and emailing him, and I left it at that. Fast forward to today September 13th. My husband had called the facility asking to speak to Dan yesterday and Dan called him back today. Keep in mind my husband never got an email or phone call so he wanted a deeper explanation and believes that we deserved an actual reasoning as to why they were cancelled. Dan said the reason they were cancelled was because we were “poaching clients to train” we continued to ask for the evidence because we never once did this in his facility. We have no where to even train “these clients”. Again Dan just beat around the bush saying he doesn’t have to show us any evidence and that he has tons from people calling and emailing. He didn’t even want to have to conversation, he kept saying he needed to go.

We have been in the fitness industry for a long time, we have much bigger and better things on our plate than to try and take a clubs clients. We have way more respect for others and ourself than that. It is very disrespectful and unprofessional in our eyes.

It’s an okay facility, lots of equipment, kind of an older crowd vibe so I wouldn’t really recommend for younger individuals unless you like that kind of thing, but I really wouldn’t chance paying for a membership/contract and then potentially getting your membership cancelled for an absurd accusation. We prepaid for three months and got to use it for one.

The biggest drawback for me is the 70s music that plays constantly throughout the gym. 90% of people in the gym are using personal headphones so I don’t get the purpose and find it to be nuisance to hear my own music and 70s hits at the same time.

Cardio machines don’t get fixed. There’s been two treadmills that I reported the incline to be not functional about six months ago, they are still not working today.

Pros: they do a good job cleaning machines and the floor.

Been with north gate for over a year. Use to love this gym but boy has it taken a dive. Today while I was there after climbing stairs I took my water out of the cup holder and there was gum stuck to it. I went to the woman locker room to wash it off and to my surprise someone was coloring their hair. Box color at the gym. Really? That’s going to stain the sink, countertops and shower. I then went to the stall and there were 3 hair extensions on the floor. What is happening here? The members are becoming disrespectful of our gym like it is their own home. Just disgusting! How can they call themselves the Northgate Health
Club if they are no longer in the Northgate neighborhood/Northgate Shopping Center?
Not happy that they downsized to a building where they wont have a pool. The other places in town that have pools to swim laps in are way too expensive. I dont enjoy that the front of the building is all glass and you can see into most of the building from the far side of the parking lot. Definitely lost the business of anyone who is self-conscious about their body, has body dysmorphia, or general anxiety. Poor business decision overall. They turned from a local family gym/pool to a knock-off overpriced planet fitness.
Way to go. Good luck competing with the other planet fitness-esque stores/chains in the area when you charge nearly four times the base membership fee of your competitors for nearly the same service/amenities!

Asked the gym for five day membership said no. Ok that’s fine. Asked if I have ever been there. I said no. Filled out paperwork and waited to see if they would show you around. Nope just sat there. So went and did treadmill for 20 min. Not all functions worked and no social distance what so ever. Suppose to be. Machines and mirrors were dirty. I wiped everything I touched. Guaranteed they are not follow city recommendations for reopening. I have been to many gyms in many cities and I will tell you this one just made bottom of the list. NoT sure why an owner wouldn’t be more clean and Friendly especially if someone from out of town. Not a recommended gym by someone who travels a lot.

If you find yourself in Rochester Mn. and are looking for an amazing gym with everything... I mean every type of cardio machine this is truly the place. It has everything. It is a clean and maintained extremely well. I am a true lover of a Jacobs Ladder (extremely hard to find in many gyms) they carried one with many other pieces of equipment - then just the standard bike, treadmill, stairclimber. “AMAZING”. I can’t even begin to go into the machines. If you feel a little awkward and nervous around seeing muscle builders etc... don’t be scared here. Everyone super friendly. This gyms fits every person. True body builders, beginners, average, young and old.
Please don’t be scared such a friendly and nonjudgmental atmosphere...you won’t feel uncomfortable... nor anyone looking at you for what your wear or what you look like. Plus - there are so many areas to workout in - I could not even cover. Feeling uneasy - there is a women’s only with Cardio and exact same lifting equipment in its own room. Not scared - stay with everyone else. Want that more hardcore style - they have that area too. Spin bikes (classes), pool, It’s there - No excuses not to come in and try or see for yourself. Well kept bathrooms and locker rooms. Clean - stations for cleaning - COVID READY where you will not feel scared to enter. People following the proper protocols and the machines spaced and ready. Did I mention Dan the owner and his staff. So friendly and welcoming. I was peeking in the window before it reopened. Very kind - came out and professionally and proper with mask gave me information and made my decision easy. The hours are great. Some gyms you have to wait until 7 or 8 to come in. Here, 5 am Since I am such an early person who likes to workout in the early am - PERFECT. Temperature scan and easy and warm welcome each of my mornings. Think Brandon (hope I got his name right🙃🙃) super sweet also. I can’t say THANK YOU enough for giving me the perfect gym. I travel tons and truly was bummed when I had to leave. This is the perfect gym - I wish I could have packed it up and taken it with me to every city I visit. HONESTLY A PHENOMENAL GYM WITH SPACE, TONS OF CARDIO MACHINES TO CHOOSE FROM (some actually I hadn’t seen yet that are new style). Also a love to a ab machine also I discovered - just different pieces which was a welcome change. Please don’t be scared to stop or use this gym - it checked marked off all my boxes and then some. I stayed at the Marriott Dt. And it was truly an easy walk up 2nd street connect with 11th - super easy bc of local construction. Plus if you drove simple and lots of parking and no pain to find- easy easy. Thank you Dan it was lovely to meet you and I wish more people were as kind as you along my travels to make me feel safe and comfortable when I’m visiting a town and need a gym better then the hotel- hands down- and even if your hotel has a gym - if this place is close or even a small drive - GO, so worth it:) you will be happy you did and come out feeling great. His daily $ was perfect - no doubt I’ve paid 3 times over just for a day pass other places. SO HAPPY with everything. I hope this helps anyone in search or between decision making. Hope to see you soon Northgate🌟🌟🌟 Also, I was not asked to write this. I truly believe since I meet so many people - I like to take time to compliment and give attention when it’s deserved. Good equipment, lots of elderly until around 11:00 a.m.., drab surroundings however,. Even though there are signs for guys to please sit on a towel in the sauna, they still sit nude on the wooden benches. Nothing like butt print from a 350 pound man that really sweats. Showers in mens' locker room are slimy with brown growth on the tiles and in the grout. They tried to update the locker room, but didn't bother putting on trim, etc. so two by fours still visible under the lockers. Not a nice place. Could do way better somewhere else for less cost. The only reason I stayed is that they lock you into year's contract that you can't get out of. My advice? Don't go there!

Northgate is an awesome fitness center. Sure, it's not flashy, but it has a lot of heart. The pool is always warm, the instructors are great, there is a ton of cardio equipment and the free weight room is huge. The staff is very friendly and the childcare is awesome. I cannot recommend Northgate enough!

UPDATE: Unfortunately we had to leave Northgate when they got rid of child care for members. That was a significant benefit that kept us coming. It is too bad that it was removed. Best of luck to you. Please try to continue to keep the members needs in mind as best as you are able.

I've never felt "gym-timidated" here. It never gets overly busy where you'd have to wait to use certain equipment or go to certain classes. We're all working towards the same thing at northgate, just to be better and healthier people.

A very comfortable place to work out. Kind and considerate staff and good location, easy to get to from my home and work.

Had a membership not that long ago (a few years ago) and wanted to work out but the machines where wet, sweaty, and smelled bad. Went back recently to check things out, I heard they renovated a bit and nothing has seemed to change, i didn't even go in. They are not the newest machines as I have seen better at other places around town, The atmosphere is ok and most people and staff are nice except for the are some rude staff and other customers who make the experience overall not good, the dressing rooms where old and outdated, they try to make up for it with a hot tub but it overall looks dirty and unclean. I would not recommend.

Rust on machines, dirty, staff is not pleasant, and a pain to get out of a plan. They just keep charging your account.

Love this gym! Prior to joining this gym, I've been yelled at by staff members of other gyms when I deadlift. I'm not an advocate for dropping weights, but it is impossible to be quiet when hitting the heavy weights! Weight room has everything I need, plus a great atmosphere!
Pool, sauna, and hot tube are kept nice! Daycare is cheap, and the people are great with my kids! The cardio room has a boat load of equipment, and a cycle room. I can't comment on the women's exercise room...cuz I was born a boy...
Only down side to this place is...it is not 24/7... if it was, I would live there!!!!

Love the gym atmosphere and how I can work as hard as I want without having to worry about "intimidating the wrong crowd". Would give it 5 stars if it was a 24/7 gym (hint hint).

You can't beat the value you get at Northgate. The equipment may not be state of the art, but most everything is included in the membership (as of 2013, 2014).
