Although the pool and outdoor water area is fun, the insane amount of rules ruins much of the experience. If you are bringing young children be prepared for every rule under the sun, many that seem to have no purpose. I understand water safety is so important, but many of the rules have nothing to do with it and you are watched like a hawk wherever you go. Itβs very strange. Have been to many water parks and water play areas and have never experienced anything like it. WAY over the top!

ThisΒ YMCA provides a solid fitness and recreation experience, though a few operational hiccups were noticeable during our recent visit. When we arrived, we learned that only the outdoor swimming area was open, which was fine given the weather, but it wouldβve been helpful to know in advanceβespecially for those planning lap swims or bringing younger children.
The womenβs locker room was spacious and had plenty of changing areas and private showers, which we appreciated. Itβs clear that the facility aims to accommodate a range of needs and privacy preferences. However, the swimsuit water extractor in the womenβs locker room was out of order, which was a bit of an inconvenience. We had to walk over to the family locker room to use the one there. While itβs not a huge issue, itβs something to be aware of, especially when managing time or children post-swim.
On a practical note, the lockers do not accept quarters, which might surprise some first-time visitors. Be sure to bring your own lock or check in advance for locker options.
Despite a few minor inconveniences, the Shoreview YMCA remains a functional and family-friendly facility. With its outdoor pool, ample amenities in the locker rooms, and standard YMCA features, itβs a good option for regular workouts or occasional visitsβjust be prepared for small maintenance or access issues from time to time.

Terrible customer service. I had one request regarding membership and it wasnβt done so I ended up doing it on my own online. Facility was small but had the basics. Walking track was really small compared to others in the area. Sauna is why they exist.

I really like this gym even though it's kind of small it has everything you need. If you guys are open until 9 I should be able to use anything in the gym all the way up until closing time and not be rushed out the door. I kind of understand the pool closing a little early but in my opinion that should be open all the way until close too. I have no idea why the sauna closes 15 mins early either and it didn't use too I've been coming to this gym for almost a half a year now and just recently that has been happening. 9 o'clock isn't even late. Other than that it's a decent gym.

Children 4 and under must be within arms reach at all times. Anyone who has a child who is very independent will be exhausted after visiting this pool. Some life guards are strict and others donβt care at all. I feel on edge when I go to this pool because I feel like I will be in trouble the second my child is more that a foot away from me. My daughter moves non stop, being within arms reach %100 of the time youβre at the pool seems a bit much.

Beautiful outdoor pool that sees alot of use in the summer. Kiddie pool as well. Nice workout room with updated equipment. Gyms are versatile offering many sports all day. Indoor track and sauna are a bonus. Indoor pool is a bit dated but in constant use.

Worst place to go they were mean to my mom and the ladies in the front got in her face it's sad how such a nice place has such terrible people Kayla Mitchel needs to be replaced as well as the rest when something goes wrong they don't care to help swimming should have been a lot more fun for me and my siblings we will never go back

Iβve always been extremely disappointed at how this y doesnβt cater to the MANY families that join each summer for the pool. Family swim isnβt open until noon?!?! Unacceptable! Only one lane taken down for the full family swim. Really??? Baby pool has an obnoxious amount of rules that make us all walk on eggshells instead have fun. Last summer we will do this. Iβll take my money to como pool if things donβt change.

Great outdoor pool at this YMCA!
Unfortunately there are too many cooks in the kitchen there. Communication with members is poor.
Right now I tried to go to one of the classes. The schedule doesn't reflect the fact that the Y is closed today due to utilities issues.
They definitely should update the schedules immediately to let everyone know classes are cancelled.
Big plus: here's why i am likely to be a member long term: the community spirit here. It's not just a business. They have bigger vision of building community.
Minus: they are not competitive for pays to instructors. Instructors are paid much under the market rate. Don't have much opportunities for growth. Great instructors definitely can be found here but only those who appreciate the community the ymca brings and can afford lower pay stay here. Those who need to 'pay their bills' with their instructor salary may need to leave to find a better pay elsewhere. Ymca! Do something about it and reward the instructors who bring people to the Y and who help you build stronger community there. Please appreciate them with better pay!

after my son has completed two levels. we decided to pay for a one-week intensive. the first day they messed up and put my son in the wrong level. too advanced for him. I saw my son struggle in the water and be scared. I had to talk to them for them to notice the mistake. We asked them to do the class again at the same level and his response was that my son learned something in that first class. the second day a child vomited and his solution was to finish the class. We thought we were going to be relocated to an outside pool or have another class to make up for this. They are supposed to be prepared for this kind of situation. perfect two days lost. On the third day I took my mom for company since I have a split toe and it is difficult for me to walk some days. They wouldn't let us in because she didn't have a photo ID. I clarify after months it was the first time this happened. It was never explained to us that this was a norm. And they did it rudely. and they only did it with us since I saw many families entering without requiring identification. We are Latino and we speak Spanish. I don't know if this was a reason to be the only ones with this requirement. I had to go out to the parking lot to wait for my American husband to come talk to them. and surprise with him they were very kind. and they lied saying that they had not told me that. it really was a terrible experience

Swimming lessons review: My 4 year old had a very bad experience at the Y (Shoreview location). She is already weary of the water, and her βteacherβ had her jump in the water with her hands stretched out (so my 4 year old) thought she would be caught. But, the teacher pulled her hands away at the last moment. Meaning my kiddo would totally dunk under water. My kid hated this. Then, her teacher did it again (after telling my kid she wouldnβt). Now my kid has a fear of water. Thanks, YMCA, for scaring my already unsure child of the water. Never again. She is no longer comfortable in the water.

To corowded people just don't have enough space to swim in with half the pool being closed off with 2 pr 3 lanes for swimming laps not fir at all especially for the elderly that dont need the high risk of getting covid and everyone swimming over and on top of everyone its pretty annoying and unreal

Worst YMCA! We registered for a class and drove 40 minutes to get here. They refused to let us in. They refused to show me the new policy that said we couldn't attend because we were a few min late. Sara was rude and unapologetic. The large blond working at 9am rolled her eyes and shook her head at us.

Called ahead of time to bring my 3yr old swimming and was informed that without a membership it would be $10. No problem I did the same thing last year when we came to swim but wasnβt sure how it would be with everything going on with COVID-19. Drove to the location and had someone tell me we were not allowed to swim without a membership and that they never allowed it so I must be confused with where I took my son later year will no Iβm not confused and definitely remember since I have actual videos and pictures of us swimming here on multiple occasions.

People do NOT follow the rules here and staff don't enforce them. Little kids play on the running track unsupervised, couples walk side by side making it difficult for runners to maintain a fast pace, people take a rest on the weight machines without letting others use them, etc, etc. I shouldn't have to be the Y's enforcer after what I pay for membership each month.

All the way from our 5 day trial to 3 weeks in this place has been super. The outdoor pool is a clincher! It was pretty dirty once but it has been stellar. Consistently able to swim laps, get in the toddler pool or jump around in the big pool with the kiddos. The family changing room is clean but the showers do not warm up much. The staff here is terrific. They begin to recognize you quite quickly and the daycare center has been fabulous. I know kids bump into each other, but the complaints Iβve heard are not reasonable. The staff works hard and cares about those kiddos. Classes are solid and scaffolded for many different levels. I feel challenged and supported. The best part is sipping on a coffee after a workout when I have a few minutes to pick up the kiddos. All in all this YMCA is rad!

I go to the Shoreview YMCA at least twice a week to take a yoga, pilates, or balance and flex class. The facility is very clean, the staff is friendly, and parking is free. So impressed by the variety of classes offered, and the quality of the instructors. Ive been coming here for over 8 years and have never been treated so poorly before. The fitness manager Christine really has made the fitness area a negative enivorment for me and several other members. The department ironically is losing some of it's best trainers too. I left a comment and emailed her supervisor directly about these concerns and never heard back.
Update 2/6/2019: Upper and middle fitness managment has been replaced and it's been a much better enviroment.
