Given the heavy rainfall the previous night, I thought the course was in pretty good shape. Some of the fairways were a little sloshy, but in general the fairways, greens and rough (where I spend the most time) were in good shape. Every person working was very pleasant and helpful.

My only qualm is that there are no water stations available on the course. With some days still in the mid 80s and high humidity, it seems ill conceived to not have at least one water station available somewhere.

Worst online booking system in the world. They won't let a single book online. Only 2 or more. If you call, they'll lie about what tee times are available for a single players because they're trying to keep their twosome times open. Book the two person tee time online and they'll charge you for 2 players. Basically they don't want single golfers on their course.

I'll take the advice and play elsewhere moving forward.

I have to say that Sourhern Hills was a wonderful course. The clubhouse was great and nice bar space. The staff was friendly upon arrival. However, the handling off tee times was very odd. We were a two-some and fully were prepared to be paired up, and were told we were. We heard announcements being made and heard we were on deck with another group. We watched a two-some of teenage boys in a custom golf cart jump in front of the group that was supposed to tee off. The two-some jumping in front of the foursome that was caused delays the entire round. There was a ranger we saw at least a dozen times on the front 9, who was less than friendly. Later on at a par 3 the foursome asked us to play through, turns out they had a dead cart. Then there was a group at the turn that took 20 plus minutes a cause the back to be very delayed. The strangest thing that I have never had happen on a golf course, after hole 11 a random single riding with his mom asked to join us. It was very odd and the kid had zero golf etiquette. I will say it is a fun course and the staff in the pro shop and bar were hospitable. I will most likely go back to play, but the organization of the tee times could use some improvement.

Fantastic golf course in the south metro. Greens roll true, tee boxes and fairways are well maintained. The pace of play was good, I played mid-day on a Sunday and was done in 4 hours.

Southern Hills used to be one of my go-to courses in the area. Unfortunately the events of this past weekend have changed my outlook. Saturday afternoon my wife and were behind a 4-some who clearly had no understanding of golf course etiquette. Two young adult couples were in the group before us, the young men were in the same cart and seemed to be fair players. The young ladies who were in their own cart did not have a clue and clearly did not play golf. Countless holes we stood at the white t-box and waited up to 10 minutes while they attempted to hit a ball from the forward t's, all while their playing partners where already on the green. The young ladies continually preceded to mess around, trying to hit shots off the fairway or wherever they felt. By our 7th hole, our patience had ran out. We called the clubhouse and asked that they address the situation. A full t-sheet was the excuse the person working gave us. We stopped playing after 9 holes as we knew at that pace we could not finish 18 holes. When I spoke to the person working on my way out, he again said that the t-sheet was full.

I'm good with people having fun, I understand people have to learn, but part of learning is understanding protocol and etiquette at which point he informed me that he mentioned it to them before they left the clubhouse for their second 9 holes. I didn't get into the fact that as we came off our last hole, a group of 8 was going off on #10...not sure how all of this has come to be, but I'm certain we will not be back anytime soon.

We played on Wednesday monring and teed off around 8;30 . Wow. It was incredibly slow for a mid week morning tee time. A 2:40 minute 9. We waited on every single hole with another group still on the Tee box. The back was quicker but no ranger in site. It appeard the 3 groups in front of us were held up as well. I did see a 5 some go off. It was not a good experience. The Course was good. The sand traps were very nice.

Recently tried out Southern Hills for the First Time. Overall a very positive experience. The course layout is very fun and dynamic, a couple of blind tee shots but not too many. Greens ran pretty slow when I played, but in good shape. The staff were also very accommodating, I was golfing solo and their where three foursomes ahead of me and they kindly moved me to start on the back so I could have a better pace of play experience which was great to see. Finished the round in about 3hrs and 15 minutes by myself.

My only gripe, while I have seen other reviews comment it, I do think its just a tad bit overpriced in some regards. I thought $45 dollars to walk 18 on a weekday was a bit high, however this isn't a major drawback, its overall a fun course. I think closer to $40 would be a better price. I understand wanting to keep a competitive price, but I have played other courses of similar quality for a lower price. Shouldn't let that scare you too much however

Again though, I would recommend trying this course out if you haven't. The layout and course design is very fun.

Southern Hills is a nice course in a beautiful setting. It can play harder than it looks with some strategically placed sand bunkers, creeks and fairways that roll significantly to one side. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed a beautiful morning on this course.

Playing conditions were great. I’ll certainly go back. There were two groups in front of us that took a long time in every hole and ranger did nothing. It took close to 4:30 hours which is insane!

A few slight issues we ran into though…

1. I had to adjust my tee time and it took 3 calls over 20 minutes to get a hold of the pro shop. A bit odd considering it was the middle of the afternoon on a Thursday.

2. My playing partner left his wedge near the 7th green (our 16th hole). After checking with a few groups behind us to see if they grabbed it and all them saying no, the pro shop told us we couldn’t use a cart to drive out to the hole to check to see if it was there, instead insisting we wait another hour for the groups behind us to finish and ask them. There were 10-20 carts available and the hole was a 1-minute cart drive from the clubhouse. His wedge ended up getting stolen as it was gone from the spot my playing partner left it by the time we walked all the way back there from the clubhouse.

Edit: The course followed up with us a few weeks later and addressed our issues and was very understanding and empathetic. Best part is the wedge ended being turned in and we will have it back soon! Very happy t they took the time to reach out and help us out.

Very good golf course, with a good challenge if you are up to it. The course is striving to make improvements every year and it just continues to get better. There are options for the high handicap/beginner to play and enjoy a great round.

There are some holes with OB near by. Make use of the provisional ball instead of having to walk back!

The wind is what makes the difference on the course. There isn't an extraordinary amount of it, but each wind makes a different round.

Par 5s can be reached by some of the longer hitters, and the par 4s are right in line with challenges along the way. The par 3s offer a touch of a variety (unless the wind is just right, then it is somewhat repetitive).

Played Southern Hills on a Friday afternoon and finished just over 4 hours!! The course has a nice layout and was in great shape. The greens rolled very nice for a public track. I included a picture of the bunker rake which is not typical, but the sand is very fine, more like you would find on a high end private club. Highly recommend.

Facility/course/experience was great. Called the day prior to see if I could get out early before a flight and they accommodated! Course is good, but there are some cart path issues due to over saturation and the facility/clubhouse seemed smaller and older. Also, the course is in the middle of some fields, so bring bug spray. I am ~5 hcp and shot 79 with rental clubs and no cleats. Fun course!

Golfed Southern Hills on July 6. So disappointed…..course was in terrible condition! Even the fact that it had rained quite a bit lately - - it was obvious that the course has not been well cared for. We used to live up here and really enjoyed golfing Southern Hills as a beautiful and well cared for course. It was not worth the price - even if it had been half! Really hope that this course will be brought back to its former glory.

Use the extra money to plant some more trees after cutting down all the Ash trees. Should have been planted 5 or 10 years ago. The course is soooo open. Nice sandy traps to hit out of.
