Lovelybfacility with attentive staff. Weight room, machines, classes to preschedule your attendance, pool, swim classes, Aerobics, multiple adilt exercise classes, hot tub & sauna, customer appreciation events in summer. Free membership for seniors with health insurance.

Ceiling is a touch low in the gym for volleyball, but it works reasonably well. Smart use of space for family showers, smaller pool but the warm pool is popular. Sauna, forced water river, splash pad, are great. Hot tub is a bit small. Workout space upstairs is great. Track is a little weird for running (lots of 90 degree corners) but great for walking.

I am able to go here because of my age and I have Silver Sneakers! If you have Silver Sneakers on your insurance plan then I highly recommend the YMCA for water aerobics and the Lazy River. For my health needs I go against the flow to build up leg and back muscles.

Walked in and asked for pricing and if was able to get a discount because of my employer. The employee said no sorry unfortunately. Andy turned his back and started helping someone else that arrived after me. One of the other two people behind the desk should have help them, or even me. I guess that took care of my inquiry. Thank you.

Started walking the resistance river and riding the recumbent bicycle about a month before i had my hipped replaced to strengthen the muscles, boy that river is a good lower body workout and the facility in itself is very nice with a lot to offer.

The building is beautiful and perfectly maintained. There are some older parts of the building, but they have been fixed up and seem well cared for. The Essential waiting room was quiet and had a short wait for an appointment.

Great, kind, helpful staff, friendly community, amazing free weight and good machine/cardio sections of the gym. The first year or so of my lifting journey was entirely at this gym and I would highly recommend it for any beginner-advanced intermediate lifters.

An excellent example of what a Fitness center is. Physical therapy & training, swimming facilities, indoor track, studios for classes, free weights and machines are all located in one building. Ontop of all these items this community based center excels at making members feel heard. Incredible place.

Nice facility, new equipment, I appreciate all thatβ¦ But something needs to be done about the locker room situation. Is there no boys locker room?? Iβm a single, childless, 34 y/o male and today after my workout I return to a bunch of little boys screaming and running around naked in the locker roomβ¦ I donβt want to be around that! Itβs uncomfortable and annoying as can be. I know they have swimming lessons and what not and itβs a family center but Iβve never had an issue with children in the MENβs locker rooms at any other Yβs around.

Weβve attended swim lessons at Hermantown and are members for 2 years. Today a substitute swim teacher Barbara combined 2 swim lessons due to staff shortage. 3S and 2P were combined in one group. There were 11 kids in one group. This is appalling and unsafe. This is not what I expected from YMCA. We will have to reconsider continuing our YMCA membership and definitely find safer alternative swim lesson locations. I will have to see how their lead Lilly responds.

Little bit of everything in the pool from little kids to adult swimmers, except I would have liked to see dedicated walking lanes for those of us with bad knees that swimming won't work or older people that's the same depth the entire lane, the do have a resistance river that ravages the knees when you walk against it or sweeps you off your feet if you walk with it, plus gas a tendency to have younger people in it just flying around

Our favorite branch in the area. Excellent services and facilities, great schedules, and very clean!
My only complaint is the overwhelming swim lesson pool use at times - many pool room features closing at once to accommodate lessons leaving the room inaccessible to other users.
Be sure to check schedules before arriving.

Really nice club for a Y, and in Duluth. Clean with a fair amount of group fitness offerings, although a few more in the late afternoon would be nice for working people. Enough equipment and weights plus a nice pool area. Would recommend as a great health club choice in the area.

I am not from the area, so I have only been to this YMCA a few times. The YMCA memberships are valid no matter which location you are at which is very nice however the guest pass is $12 I believe. Anything you can think of, this place pretty much has! The pool is very very fun for a little kids at the running track is better than usual.

Review for gym junkies/lifters:
Clean, spacious environment but LIMITED free weight section and only one of each for machines/benches - so during busy times you will be waiting! Younger demographic at this facility, some that sit on their phone on equipment.
4pm-6pm are usually very busy times.
Parking is no problem here vs the downtown branch.

Always disappointing for the kids. Pool is always full and they don't let anyone one else in. Even if you call ahead to check and then you tell your kids they get to go swimming and you drive all the way there just to get turned away. It's not fun disappointing your kids like that.

Overall, it's great. Good quality machines, clean locker room, great variety of classes. On the downside, there are a lot of people who do not wipe down the machines after use, especially the older teens. I have brought this forward, with no change. That is nasty. There are a lot of children who are unsupervised running about. There is also a loud trainer who works with some kids, that's great, but not everyone wants to listen to your training session. Finally, if something breaks, it's down for a long time. Showers, sinks, and machines, for example.

The basketball court is often occupied with children running around. It is a play pen for kids after school to be dumped off and run wild unsupervised. Avoid from 3-5 pm. Typically the floor is wet and dirty due to outdoor shoes and lack of cleaning upkeep. It is one of the few fitness centers in the are with a full gym, so I painfully pay the membership fee despite the issues. Emailed staff to no avail. The weight center is a better are compared to the gym. Overall not an enjoyable experience oftentimes when I go.

**Gym review only**
The good: Equipment is modern and installed correctly (good plates/barbells/racks). Bumpers for only lifters on platforms which you wont find many other places around here. Locker rooms clean.
The bad: Gym needs more equipments. Any gym worth their salt needs atleast 3 squat racks and there are only 2 here. Racks will fill up and you will be waiting even off peak hours. Also only one bench and it's entirely too small (narrow bench / short distance from ground) this bench is not safe to use for man with a decent sized frame, and there is only one. Scale in the bathroom is an ancient rusty mechanical scale despite the gym being relatively new, and is not calibrated or properly maintained.

Its a nice Y with updated facilities and everything you could want in a gym.
However, they dont use a queue for the pool, or even a heads up. Itβs out in the edge of forested land, and has a fancy awkwardly luxurious 5-star hotel (wasteful) gas heat fire place as part wall/hallway decoration and cozy spot for 2 chairs...
...meanwhile, the downtown Y is trying to serve 10 times the density of people per square mile, has the least parking access, facilities that are in great need of updating, and a growing user base that needs that Y to expand and increase access.
This Y, while quite nice, even luxurious... is calling into question the intent and commitment to YMCA mission goals and spirit of service to community.

Best Y in the Midwest that my family and I been to. Great pool for adults, kids and even infants. The therapy pool is bathwater and the cycle-jet pool is by far one of the best cardio sessions you can get. Innovative and impact free, yet you can still lunge, sumo hop-squat, and even "sprint"!

Good gym. It costs $5 for a day pass and $20 a month for a youth pass (ages 0-17). I only go here for the basketball court which is closed half the times I go for soccer practice or volleyball league. The pool is nice. The gym has a bunch of machines. Customer service is very good, but they have given me wrong information about the courts being open and then when I show up they are closed. The staff also gets mad at you very easily for doing simple stuff like dribbling a few times in the hallway. Overall this is probably the best gym in the Duluth area. I would recommend going to check it out for only $5.

I wanted so much to join the YMCA. I learned however, that there are very few hours that the THERAPY POOL was open to be used for THERAPY. There are only pool therapy appointments available 12-3 and many of the "open therapy pool hours" are over run by kids either having, waiting for, or just finishing swim lessons. I would ultimately have to quit one of my jobs to make it worth the money. My doctor told me to find a therapy pool. The "Essentia" name is on the building. Turns out it is all about money and not the THERAPY! If you are a family with young kids it is a wonderful facility. If you are looking for a THERAPY POOL, don't waste your money. or your time trying. Especially if you have a job and can't go smack dab in the middle of the day.

Has great potential to be an awesome facility but the hours if you work 9 to 5 arent good for working people during the day. Awesome basketball court and pool. The weight room needs alot of equipment and accessories. For example there are no belts for squatting that anyone can use or dipping belts. They have a giant TRX system that rarely anyone uses and just takes up space that a bunch of other stuff could go in that place. I've asked the director personally if they were getting any and she just said she had a list and would add it to it. That was several months ago. There isn't very much cables and barely any back row type machines. The sauna hours are only open if the pool is open and that is difficult to figure out on a daily basis. The locker rooms are great but the 1 temperature button sucks because its blazing hot and when you get done with a hard workout and looking forward to a nice cool shower its impossible. So you basically continue to sweat throughout getting dressed. The people are great and helpful with everything but the lack of accessories and equipment need fixed. I will continue to keep going to the downtown duluth or superior ymca.
