This is a gym unlike others. The community supports you fully and even if you are a total beginner you feel as though you belong. The trainers are some of the best people I’ve ever worked with and really care that you tailor the workout to your own abilities and modify exercises until you build up the strength to do them fully. Newcomers are working out right next to people who have been coming for years and the support and encouragement is unlike anything I’ve ever felt. The class structure makes you push yourself and after you have finished you feel so accomplished and makes you want to work harder the next time. I can’t recommend enough trying freight house and seeing for yourself what they can do for you.

I have been to quite a few gyms in the KC area since I moved here two years ago and honestly I’m so mad I didn’t find this place sooner! The trainers here really care about their clients and I just started personal training and it’s been so amazing!

Freight House Fitness is the best gym in KC. If you’re downtown, I recommend the West Bottoms location. If you’re in midtown or South KC, come to Troost. It’s new. The owner is a designer. It’s beautiful. The location is so convenient for Plaza, Hyde Park, Westport, Brookside, and East KC dwellers. I’ve been a member of a lot of gyms in the KC area. There is no place like Freight House.

If you looking for a gym to change your life, look no further. Seriously. I joined FH a little over a year ago now and I have never been an avid work out person until I now. I love all of the trainers, the workouts are always different and I’m learning how to work out SAFELY. Which I’ve been to many other gyms in KC whos main priority was not safety, and I’ve gotten injured. The Troost location is very clean, 2 private showers, several private changing areas. This gym is all you need, you won’t regret it.

I started working out at Freight House in June of 2018 and am so excited to be celebrating my one year anniversary. I found Freight House through a promotion that they were offering on Groupon. Before I found Freight House I had never exercised consistently and that is a huge understatement. I got winded taking stairs most days and was not not really aware of just how unhealthy I had allowed myself to become. I had just gotten out of a long relationship and wanted to focus on taking care of myself. When I came to the initial orientation, Sean filled me in on a 6 week challenge that was coming up. It sounded really intense but I knew that if I did not commit to something from day one, I would not show up on a regular basis. He was incredibly encouraging and answered all of my questions, which were many. Baylie was also there from the first week to help me feel acclimated to this new lifestyle on which I was about to begin. I learned more than I ever would have imagined from this process. Nutrition was never really something that I understood or even wanted to understand. Calories aren't simply calories and that is what I had assumed my entire life from everything I had seen in media, fad diets, etc. I have learned more about what my physical limitations are. Honestly, I don't have nearly as many as I had allowed myself to believe. I have learned that I am stronger than I've ever given myself credit for. There were many times when I wanted to go back to old eating habits as they were often a way of coping with anxiety. In the past, when I had a bad eating day, I would give up because I saw it as a complete failure. Having the community that Freight House provides really helped me understand that one bad day does not cancel out all of the progress I had made. This process has made me mentally stronger and more aware of myself and what I need to be happy in my own skin. I now have a better relationship with food. Of course, everything is a work in progress, but I now fully appreciate the fact that what I put in my body should nourish me. I've pushed myself further than I ever have physically and I'm excited to see where I can go next. Before joining Freight House I had never run a full mile in my entire life. After running that first mile, I signed up for a 5K. I was terrified but I did it. I've now run about 7 races in the past year and just completed my first 10K. My goal was just to finish without stopping. I wound up finishing in an hour in two minutes, shattering my expectations. I'm excited that Freight House has added their barbell club because it gives me a new avenue in which to challenge myself. I look forward to other programs that they have to offer. I will continue to monitor my nutrition and continue to push myself. I plan on signing up for my first half marathon in the coming weeks and starting to train for that. Most importantly, I plan to continue to see bettering my health through exercise and proper nutrition as self care and to continue this journey focusing on the progress, never allowing myself to see a misstep as the end of the journey. Since joining Freight House, I have lost 89 lbs.

Love this place so much! I feel like I have more energy when I go to their classes, and I am one step closer to getting my Michelle Obama arms. The only downside is that they don't have more classes, because I'm addicted to going, and feel weird when I can't make a class. 10/10 would recommend.

I have been attending FHF for a little over 3 years. The atmosphere and community it brings is hands down the best. The workouts are phenomenal and definitely get you sweating. The Troost location is new and very different from the West bottoms location. Everything is new and shiny! The bathroom/shower/changing area is super nice! For those of you that must have AC while working out, it is there! The trainers are amazing and are very good at hyping you up, helping with form and making everyone feel included. If you are looking for a gym with an amazing community that will get you looking cut...THIS IS YOUR PLACE! West bottoms will always be my home, but Troost is beautiful, spacious AND NEW!

I started my journey at Freight House Fitness close to 5 years ago. I became aware of FHF through a neighbor who had trained with Sean. I was hearing stories of workouts and food prep, but also noticed how happy they were with the changes they were seeing. This caught my attention and soon enough I found myself waking up before sunrise to start doing lunges and burpees.
If someone met me 5 years ago, I think they would have known I was active, and I was. I would challenge myself through running, completing two marathons and multiple half marathons. I would weight lift in my apartment gym and even at my work. However, I did slowly start to see myself gain weight as my age increased. I didn’t know much about dieting. I had moved from Seattle to KC in the years prior and noticed that my food options became less healthy. BBQ was easy and delicious and quickly replaced the seafood staple meals of the Pacific North West. There were more fast food options available. It became easy to get comfortable and forget about the calories. It also didn’t help that my hobby focused on beer, talking about it but also enjoying it. You won’t be surprised to hear that I gained weight.
When the 90 Day Challenge became part of the FHF membership I decided to give it a go. I told myself to believe in the process and soak up as much information for 90 days. I started to learn about flexible dieting and it made sense. I learned how proteins, carbs and fats affected my day. Soon I was losing weight, but more importantly becoming stronger. Over the course of challenge I was learned how important food was to my body. It wasn’t easy, I saw the highs and the lows, but I kept learning and noticed the results. I will continue to use these lessons to help maintain my weight. I came to Freight House at close to 215 lbs and dropped down to 190.

I have been going to Freight House since June of 2018. Freight House has changed my life and has made healthy living the center of it. Prior to joining I was trying my best to eat healthy and work out. I would eat fairly well during the week but then would eat whatever I wanted on the weekends. I would also exercise at a traditional gym where there's plenty of equipment. I would find exercise plans online or try to come up with my own plan. After a while I would get bored with going to the gym because I never pushed myself beyond the exercise movements with which I was comfortable. I would go to the gym for three days one week, then push myself to go one day the next but couldn't find motivation to keep going the week after that. When I joined Freight House with my friend, we started with the 6 Week Summer Slim Down Challenge. What's great about Freight House's challenges is that they give you structure for exercising and eating healthy in a way that is sustainable but also pushes you. The coaches are absolutely amazing. They recognize everyone where they are at in their fitness journey by finding ways to modify the exercise for someone who is just beginning or is dealing with an injury. The coaches also find ways to challenge and push people to take it to the next level. Since joining I've lost 62 lbs.

When I came to Freight House Fitness it was on a groupon deal. I really didn’t know what to expect. A coworker had asked me to join her. That was two years ago. Little did I know I would find a family there, a fantastic support system.
Along the way I have found that three liquids would be a guarantee. SWEAT, TEARS, and WATER! Those three liquids pushed me on days where my mind said I couldn’t but my body said I would. At 298 and size 24. I wasn’t comfortable in my own skin. Wanted to be better but didn’t know how. You hear all the lame quick fixes, cure all’s to fat, and gimmicks. I wanted none of them. I trusted a core group of people that I found here at FHF. People that knew if I sweated I will make real gains.
Like many other women the mirror wasn’t my friend. Like many I didn’t like what I saw in the reflection. The keys to fixing it was right in front of me. The first several days drew lots of TEARS but the addiction was already started. I began to learn the name of muscles, lifts, and exercises. I began to learn how to do them. Most of all I began to the love the image in the mirror again.
I had lots of high and lows on the journey. I went from using food to fuel my emotions but instead to fuel my “gains”. Gains in how I began to lose the weight and gain muscle.
I learned that I was being selfish to my kids, family, friends, and most of all myself! Letting my health be out of control is no longer an option for me. As I get stronger and learn I have began to love myself harder and stronger.
I plan to keep challenging myself for better. I see myself in ways I never thought I would. With all the support and love I have received here at FHF I am proud to say I have lost 80 lbs, Crushed so many PR’s. I am looking forward to seeing how many more PR’s I can crush with this family I have found here FHF.
