My 2 year old daughter doesnβt speak English yet and she has been to this YMCA before. Today she was in the kids watch program during their fall event. The staff said it would go until 12:00, but at 11:45 we already got a call saying she βdidnβt want to clean up toys,β and they even asked us to sign an incident report.
She always cleans up at home and in her preschool, so it was clearly just a misunderstanding because she didnβt understand what they said. Instead of being patient or showing her what to do, the staff treated it like a behavior problem.
I understand they have rules, but a little more patience and kindness would go a long way when working with toddlers. We were really disappointed by how this was handled.

Normally I like this location the staff is typically nice. Tonight I observed a women working at the front desk greet 2 women by simply saying "Ladies we're closed," rather than saying anything polite. Then as the ladies were politely leaving she asked in a sort of acusatory fashion "How did you get in here the doors were locked?" This is a very odd way to treat people. I hope that at the very least this review will prompt a conversation with the staff about kindness and using manners when speaking to people. I have been a members for years and witnessing this was really uncomfortable, I cant begin to imagine how uncomfortable the two ladies were after this interaction.

Blatantly discriminatory practices, strange policies and behaviors from employees, stay away if you have a smidgeon of skin color/tint, after reading the other reviews from non-European names i can unfortunately say this is a recurring theme.

Equipment, layout, machines are on par for workouts, but busy hour gets congested with limited popular benches, arches, etc....
No towels !!! ........ dispensers with brown paper are provided. We're accustomed to the blues and whites. Altogether great place; clean & welcoming.

When choosing to move to this area, the proximity of the YMCA, less than a mile away, was a significant factor in our decision. After all, the YMCA is an organization that prides itself on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Unfortunately, my recent experiences at the Wildwood YMCA have shown a stark contrast to these values.
I am deeply disappointed with the treatment my son and I received at this location. As a dedicated parent, I have always ensured my child gets ample swimming practice. Despite being a strong swimmer capable of swimming the entire length of the pool using both freestyle and backstroke, we were asked to leave the full-length pool to accommodate an adult lap swimmer. This was not only disheartening but felt blatantly discriminatory. It became apparent that the staff enforced rules inconsistently and without valid justification.
When I sought clarification from the Aquatics Director, I was told that lap swimming is only for those aged 13 and older, despite my child meeting all safety criteria and swimming within arm's length under my supervision. Upon further investigation, it turns out that YMCA locations can make their own rules, independent of the published guidelines, leading to arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement. This inconsistency in rules is unacceptable, especially when it targets a child who is only trying to practice and improve their swimming skills.
The way we were treated felt humiliating and dismissive, particularly when I was informed that this rule might be reconsidered in the future. This implies that my child's ability to practice is subject to the whim of individual staff members rather than clear, consistent policies.
It is deeply troubling to experience such treatment in a place that should be welcoming and supportive of all families. I strongly urge other parents and members of the community to be aware of these issues. Until the Wildwood YMCA addresses these discrepancies and treats all members with the fairness and respect they deserve, I cannot recommend this location.

My family and I have been exercising at the Wildwood YMCA for over 25 Years. We love working out at the Y. The employees are the best, friendly and knowledgeable. The equipment and facility is top notch. However there is one area where I believe we are lacking equipment. That is the machines for hamstrings. There are plenty of leg presses, leg extension machines and calf machines. But there is only one machine for hamstrings. And it is difficult to access as it is in use most of the time. My recommendation is to add one or two more machines for hamstrings. A lying leg curl machine is really needed. By the way the Y use to have a lying leg machine, unfortunately it was removed and not replaced.
Thank you for your consideration.

The workout area is nice...good selection of cardio and free weights and weight machines. The locker rooms are not clean with hair all over the vanity in the women's bathroom. The men's never has paper towels. There are always many employees, but no one is ever actively working. Once I had a question and asked at the desk. They didn't know the answer and sent me up to workout area to ask that employee. I didn't find one. When I went back to the desk, they asked if I got the answer I needed. When I said that I didn't find anyone, they took me back upstairs. We located the employee in an office with earbuds in reclining in a chair. Needless to say, no one could answer my question.

Beware you have to cancel by the 20th of the month, otherwise you have to pay for the full next month. My husband canceled on the 30th of May, having scarcely used his membership recently and knowing he wouldnβt use it again for several months. I was very disappointed that we had to pay $50 for the month of June for a membership that will not be used.

Very nice people very nice clean place the only problem I have is they keep it too hot with no air circulation in the environment is kind of uneasy but the people that work there are in high school and remember to bring your own cup for the free coffee they will give you a cup but I'm not sure if they're sanitized or clean and how many people have drank God of and so bring your own coffee cup or water bottle they don't have disposable cups Anymore

Instructor: Amy Ruegge Class: Core & More and Yogalates
I remember last December over the holidays, Amy had us begin doing planks using the pool noodle. After that first attempt I asked her how you do this without your feet floating up. Her answer was something like βbuild your coreβ. I laugh today when I do a plank because it is easy.
I have been so impressed with Amy as an Aquatic Instructor. It is clear that she has a vision for her class and plans how to gradually build the strength, core, skills, & etc. of ALL participants. She is constantly changing up what we do so we continue to be challenged and see progress.
Amy possesses all of the attributes of a great instructor/trainer.

It's a very nice and clean facility and just about everyone, staff and members are very nice "but" my wife and I are both in our 70's and have the some of same physical limitations that go with the age. We try to swim a mile of good hard laps 3 days a week but it's getting more crowded which makes us more prone to injury. We try to swim together but if it doesn't work in the future we'll look around

I joined this gym to promote and cultivate wellness within my family. However; there was one staff member in particular that appeared opposed to that mission. She would encroach on my family's space while we were working out. Staring at us with a grimaced countenance. She was very intrusive and passive aggressive. She took a very unwelcoming stance towards us without provocation. I never allowed my children to be away from my side, because I feared for their safety. I firmly believe that it is important to protect your children from the damaging effects of microaggression.
The most alluring and attractive part of joining this gym was their fees. I thought the full priced membership was a bargain. I've paid a much higher gym membership price for myself alone at other gyms. On the other hand,, taking on the task of protecting my family from behavior that was not appropriate to content and that was sanctioned by underlying erroneous cultural beliefs, made the price seem less important and the feat insurmountable.
I was determined not to allow this woman's behavior to become insidious to myself or my children. Employed the technique of ignoring her until it could no longer be accomplished.
Being originally from NY my children and I were not accustomed to many of the behaviors that was displayed. It was like going in back in time. I took my issue to the director at the time who displayed a subjective perspective- which favored the employee. She was not skilled, or knowledgeable enough to successfully resolve problem -that was normalized within this culture.
I just caution any consciously aware families of color. If you are unable to anesthetize yourself and your family members from the misaligned behavior that goes on towards a select few of the members who attend here (I never observed her display this behavior towards any caucasian member, but I did witness her behave poorly towards other people of color). Workout with your family outside of this facility. They may mean well in their mission statement but they do not have the competency level to adhere to and/or carry out their own mission.

Believe it or not I must confess initially my husband had to drag me to the βYβ and βmakeβ
me join. In no way did I want to work out. Now I canβt imagine not being a member. It is our second family. From day one everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Every single member and or visitor is welcomed by a smiling face from someone behind the desk. It is not long before they know you by name. The staff and trainers genuinely care about us. Iβve been a member at a couple of other gyms and they were just buildings with equipment. The Wildwood Y is truly a family. Cliche, maybe but totally true. I retired last summer and now Iβm there 5 days a week as is my husband who initially drug me there, who by the way puts me to shame by working out twice as long as I do each visit.
I have worked with a private trainer for a few sessions. She listened closely to my goals and crafted our sessions with movements that would help me reach and maintain them, which I have.
Yoga has now become a passion for me. Something I never had an interest in before.
The staff comes up with regular βchallengesβ to make things fun.
In my mind the friendliness of the staff fosters the same between the members. People who donβt know each other will introduce themselves and start talking and just like that you know a new member of the family.
Just canβt say enough good things about the Wildwood YMCA. I would not want to go anywhere else. A great place to be.
