I would like to make this review as fair as possible. I used to love this gym. It's clean, workers are friendly and there is a wide range of equipment to use. However, this is no longer my feeling as there are several issues.

1. The price has increased by about 60% since the pandemic. Most business's have increased costs over that time, so not a huge deal. It's still a fair price. However, the price increase with the following issues is concerning.

2. The men's sauna had a broken light bulb for a couple of weeks this summer. The bulb was literally broken and still in the light socket. How can something so easy to repair take weeks to replace?

3. The women's sauna was recently out of order for a couple of months. This shouldn't take months to fix. Although, it is now "fixed" it's only about 130 degrees. This is not acceptable for a sauna temperature. A sauna should be 160-180 degrees.

4. The air conditioning hasn't been working correctly all summer, and it's still not fixed. Let me repeat that, it is still hot in the gym. The temperature was consistently over 80 degrees for the past few months. I have a picture where it was 88 degrees at some point. There were no apologies about the temperature and no added fans to help with air flow. How could you not add fans when it was so hot? Instead of adding fans, they just closed the thermostat cover so you can no longer see how hot it is. I understand that they don't own the building, but not adding fans when it was so hot shows a complete lack of awareness and concern for their customers.

Full disclosure, this is not my real name as I wish to remain anonymous. Actions speak louder than words, and this gym needs to take drastic actions to bring it back to the nice gym it once was.

Been at this gym since 2009. Nothing has really changed. They need some new equipment, they have no platforms and only one squat rack. They need to put money into this gym. I understand it’s cheap but come on. It’s time to spruce up the gym. Xist spent all that money on cycling equipment and classes and never see anyone using them. The cycling classes are only couple times a week. Get ride of that and spend some money on Dumbells, machines, and squat racks with platforms.

I have been a member of xist for the last 8 years and I refuse to go to another gym. The staff at xist is so energetic and polite. The gym is CONSTANTLY being cleaned and managed. Plus, the tanning/self care side of the gym is constantly being cleaned, managed and updated! I recommend xist to everyone I can!! Both locations are phenomenal!!

This gym is great! Extremely reasonable price with all the perks that you get with each membership. The staff here are always on the move, wiping things down, folding laundry or cleaning the floors. The girls upfront are always amazing and there’s never a day I go ungreeted! I highly recommend this gym to everyone I speak to. And I can’t say enough nice things about the staff here!

Was a member for the last year. The people that go here are awesome but the place is falling apart. We have almost every cable machine without numbering on the weights (I know your gonna say you didn't know, but there's multiple reviews mentioning it and we have all told erica). If you grab dumbells between 30lbs and 65lbs they are falling apart literally rubber coming off. No machines are bolted to the floor, the fact you haven't had an accident is insane, nothing is getting cleaned since jay left, sauna doesn't work, water taste bad after the water outage, protien bars are expired..... I was just going to let it be but after I went in today and tried to just downgrade my membership I was told I couldn't finish out the higher tier membership I already paid for..... I wanted to keep giving them my money..... but I was told to go somewhere else.

I want to love Xist. I have used them on and off for years. I want to support locally owned business over chains. However, I keep going back to club fitness and here is why.

They only have one of everything. Equipment breaks down and they just put an out of order sign on it for long periods of time instead of making it a priority to fix. Then you are SOL. This happens frequently at the cable machines. Also, at the cable machines, the numbers that show weight have been worn off for years. They refuse to have new numbers painted on the weight and you don't know how much you are lifting. This is just sad and unacceptable. This would be so simple to fix. It's just a sign of how they don't pay attention to important detail.

The sauna, at least in the men's room isn't functioning properly. It does not get up to temp and when you tell them about it they smile and nod and never do anything about it.

They let women clean the mens restroom everyday. Closing it for a half hour. Depending on what time you go, this can really affect your morning routine/schedule. I have asked them to address this and they simply do not care. I have had many issues with this and its the main reason I left.

For similar prices you can go to Club Fitness and get much more updated equipment, bettter amenities and locations all over St Louis you have access to.

Do better Xist and I might come back.

Update on the below one year later.
I very respectfully approached staff as to the possibility of mixing things up and not having half of their televisions on the political news channel of THEIR choosing. I suggested keeping a couple on their channel and selecting other news channels on others, as not everyone desires to see the same agenda force fed to them.
The staff member literally laughed and said “the owner said the answer is NO to whomever wants to watch any other news feed”.

What strange times we live in …..

I am not comfortable with the fact that they force feed you a particular cable news (propaganda) channel on half of their televisions during your visit.
I don’t expect a business to politicize the service being provided.

This gym is an adequate facility, but the price continues to increase; the equipment remaining the same, treadmills are outdated, etc. The parking lot is an accident waiting to happen. In January, the lights remained off at 5am for nearly 3 weeks. The parking lot is again pitch-black at 5am for the 2nd week; older members need to be extremely careful in the morning. Potholes, past car break-ins and people loitering on the sidewalk make one feel uneasy in the dark early mornings, especiallysince the gym recently opened 24 hours. Staff said they emailed the management company; clearly more needs to happen for change.

I've been going to this gym for a while. When I first joined it was 24 hours access. Then it went down to restricted hours and, just recently, went back to 24 hours. However, it costs more to go anytime and there are no parking lot lights down by the entrance. There are lights that work up closer to Lindbergh, so not sure why the ones closer to the gym can't work. I was told they emailed someone about the problem, but that was over 2 weeks ago. When I go at 5 am, there are a lot of older people that work out and it is not safe for them to walk to the front door, especially with a line already forming at the plasma donation center next door.The membership fee has been increased 2x in not as many years and I'm not sure why. There is no new equipment and nothing fancy about the gym. I truly only go because of its location to my house and my gym fam peeps.

For the price you pay, it's perhaps a neat gym to be at, but the seats are torn up, the numbers on the scale are missing, people don't wipe their benches after a sweaty workout, and overall the place seems too cramped up with the benches and weights being so close to each other.

They could definitely reorganize and probably order new equipment or fix the existing one.

The gym is very nice, never had an issue with anything. The only down fall is that they have it way to cold in there all the time. Even on the coldest day I feel that the AC is on, along with the fans. I don’t know how people are honestly suppose to sweat when they have the fans on constantly. This is the absolute best gym ever. The staff is always helpful and polite, the facility is always clean, the air conditioning is optimal, there are a wide variety of machines which are always maintained, and the staff is encouraging, never judgemental. Patrick (owner) and his staff are always happy to see you and are some of the nicest people around.

This is, without a doubt, the best gym you will ever attend. I plan on moving out of town soon, and still will take a 20 drive just to come here because it's that good.

Terrible Gym, its basically a planet fitness. Everytime i deadlifted i had the staff yell at me and complain. This was going on for months. the last day i was there, the staff said i couldn't deadlift for the rest of the day, ruining my workout. I soon then canceled my membership. If you like a gym that hates powerlifters / lifting heavy, this is the gym for you. Other than that, id avoid it.

I didn't even have to go into this place which I never will, I was going to a naboring store driving well below the speed limit because I used to work at different places in that lot and don't drive fast, well whether u are in car or walking through parking lot pay attention because some lady almost walked right into my car if I was speeding or not paying attention the situation very well could have turned out different. Well I was then approached by a xist staff asking if i was speeding through lot which i wasnt, then he proceeds to say well i have 8 cops insode that reveiwed the footage. Um ok first of all if i was wrong i would admit it and second if i accually did speed why didn't a police offer come talk to me. Just saying they went out of there way to be rude and I wasn't even going into there and now will never because this was the man who runs the store well maybe you should hire people that pay attention period if u can't even walk across a parking lot how can u work

Worst experience ever! The equipment wasn't bad and what they have to offer seems decent. My friend is (was) a member and asked me to check it out because it's so close to my new house, versus my current gym which is about a 1.5mi away. From the second we walked in the guy at the counter was so rude. He mentioned he had been there since earlier that morning and it was about 8pm at this point. He had me sign a waiver or something, I have no idea because he didn't show me. He just said sign here, on a little black pad that would translate my signature to his computer. I lightheartedly said (while signing) "I don't even get to read what I'm signing?!" He signed and said "well I can print it for you" in a tone that definitely implied he was totally bothered by my statement. I smiled and said no that's okay, I was just kidding. He just looked at me as if to say in his head "okay whatever". We went on to working out. When we were finished my friend wanted to tan. She approached the desk, the same guy was still here, and asked to buy some Winkies but was it possible to charge to her account. He was so rude and long story short, she said never mind to tanning and said "Never mind I'll tan another time." His response "Good, because you're confusing" I couldn't believe it when I heard that. I'm so glad I didn't cancel my membership at my current gym without checking this place out first. I will never go back there again! My friend has since cancelled her membership at Xist.

I stopped my membership here when the regional manager was extremely unprofessional with me. I've never been treated as rude as I was by their regional manager. I went and joined a competitor the next day. Too bad they were not bought out by Planet Fitness after all. I've just graduated from Mizzou and worked and the Student Rec Facility there for 3 years (which was voted be best college rec facility in the nation by ESPN) and I can honestly say I enjoy Xist Fit more than the Mizzou Rec Center. The staff is great, they are always finding new and better ways to serve their customers, and the equipment is every bit as good as Mizzou's top of the line stuff. If you're on the fence about what gym you would like to join, at least give them a look and I promise you won't be disappointed. They are starting to expand and add locations throughout St. Louis and it's easy to see why with the way they serve their clients each and every day.

Happy people work here. Seriously. The ENTIRE staff here seems genuinely happy to see you each and every time you walk through the doors, you're greeted hello every time, you're bid farewell every time.
