Great climbing gym! Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Routes changed regularly, varying in difficulty. Good mix of top rope, auto belays, lead climbing, and bouldering. Other gym equipment available for use as well. Rental gear is good too, but the shoes... Not so much. If you're going more than once, buy your own shoes at minimum.

The routes were fine but the rental shoes were beyond disgusting, the fasteners were caked with hair, and the rubber soles were almost paper thin, and the inside of the shoe was like stepping in wet glue, seemed like theyβd never been replaced , or cleaned if even that. Waste of money.

It is not a very big gym, but definitely offers a good variety of routes. Each route seems to offer a good array of holds, so you'll definitely see something you hate and also something you love in each! The setters seem very conscious of heights but potentially less conscious of hand size (or they just want to weed out the soft lol) it really was a great time though, and staff was fantastic and friendly! There are maybe 3 vb auto-belay routes and 4 auto belays with 3 routes each. Their grading is intense, but fair and accurate it's price isn't crazy, so you get what you pay for. Not the best, but pretty darn good!

I come and climb here twice a year cause I'm from Florida. Great gym however the grading is upsetting. Y'all should really focus and get a single grade and not grouped. Since I'm only going to climb one day I don't want to waste my energy on something I know I can't climb. If I project v6 then I don't want to waste energy and time on a v4-6 if it's a 6. I want to climb v4 and maybe a v5. This is the only thing y'all need to fix. Other then that great gym with plenty of lead rope and some boulders.

I came here because they had a sauna room to use, but I canceled my membership because it was literally never open to use. Always taken, and today I pay 20 dollars and wait 3 hours to use the sauna, it was taken the entire 3 hours. Won't be back.

I booked this for my sonβs birthday. I was told over the phone that you could have up to 12 people and when I asked if I could purchase more time because they only give you an hour and a half I was told that they could still climb after the allotted time frame. I was also told I could come 30 minutes before hand to decorate. I didnβt arrive until shortly before the party, but had I arrived sooner I wouldnβt have been able to decorate anyway because there was a yoga class going on. The staff was very nice getting us set up, which however took a large portion of time out of our one hour climb time. Once the kids started, we quickly found out that because they were so busy we couldnβt climb in certain sections and it really limited the areas where we could go, not to mention the long line to wait. After talking to one of the employees, she did let us go to some other areas, just not all of them. I was told that we would have the party room for 30 more minutes, so we headed in to do cake and presents and had to scramble to get out in time. The kids went back to climbing, and then I was told by one of the parents at the party that they were shuffling the kids back into the party room and making them take off their gear. When I went in, I was informed that they could not climb anymore, there was another birthday party and the gear was needed for that party and if they wanted to climb longer, I would have to pay for day passes for each child. (We also only had 7 kids there, not the 12 allowed) I argued stating what I was told on the phone, that they could still climb after our one and a half hour party slot. She told me thatβs not how it works and I shouldβve been told that you canβt climb any longer than the amount they give you. This party after tax cost over $270 and I think this is ridiculous that kids canβt get more climb time, especially when you are told this upon booking. They did, however eventually let us go back up to the front desk, and put gear back on and climb longer for the mixup, but this definitely put a damper on our party. For the price and the amount of time along with the confusion between employees and what is told to customers, we definitely will be looking elsewhere for parties in the future.

Wow!!! I have heard of Zenith for a few years. I will probably never understand the desire to climb a wall as I'm sort of the guy that thinks "If God wanted me up there, he would put me there" LOL. I took my daughter here this weekend, and it is really amazing.
First off, the staff seems like really passionate about their job and climbing. One in particular named Pepper, was so welcoming and helpful. She really went above and beyond to make my daughter comfortable. She explained everything to her (and me), and taught her how to climb.
The climbing options are incredible. I can see how people get into this hobby. I initially thought this would only be a sport for fit young men, but I saw a number of people enjoying the sport that were men, women, skinny, and not so skinny. The center seemed really welcoming to all types of climbers.
Overall this is a great place, and I can't think how it could be improved!

My husband, son, and I went in today to celebrate our sonβs 6th birthday. Our son has autism spectrum disorder, so certain environments can be challenging at times. We were greeted so quickly, and Jessa helped us get situated in climbing equipment and taught us all we needed to get started. Although we werenβt there terribly long, our son was having a hard time, Jessa sent us a super kind message after we left and discussed how accommodating they can make our experience. We can not wait to come back!!!

We had a great party here recently for our nine year old. The one hour of climbing time was perfect for the kids (age 5-10) and they had enough auto-belays that the kids never had to wait long for a turn. We were able to help the kids get clipped in and out so we stayed busy too. We would definitely recommend it for parties. The staff member who helped us (Pepper) was great too!

Honestly, an excellent gym. They pack a good number of routes into the lead area despite its small size, and the quality of the routes is stellar. The setting is really good for a modern gym, and the grades actually felt appropriate, compared to most gyms super featherbagging their routes. Staff was super cool. When I'm in Springfield in the future, I won't have to think twice about coming here for a good workout.

I only tried the bouldering which was fun for about 20 minutes. There were maybe 4 routes suitable for a moderate beginner. All the grades are a range like βV1-V3β with the higher grade being more accurate. The gym is also overpriced if you want to rent equipment. $26 for a single climbing session, including equipment, is too much. Also, the holds are middle of the road in quality.

Only commercial grade piece of workout equipment is a bike with a sign that say's "only for z-fit use". Rest of the gym equipment is some discount stuff you'd find in your uncle's garage. Treadmill incline has been broken the entire time I've been a member.
Route setting is a mixture of gross and boring since Christian left. Gym seems consistently busy. Staff can't be making much since they are 17 y/o on average and have high turn over. Put two and two together and you have to wonder where owners are putting their money. Certainly not giving any of it back to the gym equipment or community.
Tape on bouldering walls seems paranoid and looks tacky. Sigh.

I feel super lucky. I had never climbed before, and I wanted to try it for a personal reason, but it's already become so much more than that original catalyst for me. Christine is amazing. I love that she doesn't just tell you what to do, she explains exactly why. The facility itself gives us everything we need to explore the many facets of climbing. I feel like I'm truly learning the skills and the safety measures, and that makes all the difference. I also have complete trust in her ability to guide me and to keep me safe. She keeps me going even when I doubt myself. She listens to me and really hears me, and puts up with my occasional dirty looks :). I realized rather quickly that she was incredibly knowledgeable, EDUCATIONAL, and also had the perfect personality to be the trusted and effective trainer I need, so I actually asked her if we could pick up a day of regular fitness training, as well. I am always excited to work with her, because not only is she a health and fitness expert and an expert at reading individual needs, she's also just a fantastic person. I truly couldn't ask for a better guide in this journey that I'm on.

The gym looked small but nice in the pictures, so when my family and I saw it was near our hotel we were excited to try it out. Upon entry, we were told we would not be able to take a top rope belay test because they were "understaffed". A little bit annoying, but I'm more of a boulderer anyway so I didn't care too much. But then we were then given a tour by the one staff member who was working the desk, which took about as long as a top rope belay test would've taken...
I started my session on the bouldering wall in the back, half of which was slab. The boulders were fun, and grades felt pretty accurate. There was a variety of different types of problems so I was quite pleased. After climbing everything in the back, I went to the front wall where the cave section is. Personally, I love steep climbs a lot more than slab. And because I actually enjoyed the slabs they had I was looking forward to some cave climbs. I was let down by a lot of very basic problems, left right left right left, pull hard on small holds sort of climbing. And the grades on this wall felt about a grade stiffer than they should've been. Now if they were actually creative and fun boulders, I could forgive that, but these were not. It is very very rare that I enjoy slabs more than overhangs. There was only one problem on that entire wall that I can honestly say I enjoyed. Overall, the setting was just decent, but at least it was consistent.
I should also mention there was a youth team practicing while I was there. I'm fine with that, I actually coach myself, and they weren't in the way at all. The coach had a drill and a setter's hold bucket with drill bits and such that she was using to set some moves for the kids. That's great, except when the practice finished and the coach left, she just left the drill and holds and stuff on the bench, which doesn't seem very safe. The head setter at my gym would've had a fit about that.
Tldr; not super friendly or professional staff, mediocre setting, and safety issues.

I have been to numerous gyms around the US and have been climbing at Zenith for about 1.5 years now. I'll be moving to Texas in June, but it would be a crime to not to at least review the gym that I've been fortunate enough to call home for so long. The gym has some of the nicest staff who run incredibly accessible classes for all ages and set some amazing climbs. While membership can be a tad pricey, you get more than the cost in value (both in the form of discounts and in the aggregate of money spent per month).
For those looking for specifics:
- Zenith has two bouldering walls. The front wall has a 45 degree surface that blends into a massive cave. The front wall also has top-outs which lead to a weights area (easily accessible for strength training). The back wall is less steep and has a medium overhang. This wall has lots of space for slabs and technical boulders.
- Zenith has a large amount of top rope, auto-belay, and lead climbs set on 35ft walls. There are just four (I believe) auto-belay anchors, so getting top rope certified really expands the amount of big wall climbs available. Personally, I haven't done much lead, but the climbs look awesome and have lots of variety for all styles.
- Zenith has a smaller side area separate from these. This area has a large (with slopers and rails) campus board, a pull-up/beast maker area with bars, and (one of my favorites) a tension board. For the uninformed, a tension board is a standardized board that has LED lights under the holds, meaning you can customize your climbs with the Tension app.
- Zenith sets a very large swath of difficulties. There are generally, boulder-wise, at least three or four V8+ boulders at a time, giving plenty of projects for the more advanced. There are tons of intermediate climbs designed to teach specific concepts. There are also tons of beginner climbs for new folks.
- They also host yoga and calisthenics classes. Though I haven't been involved in them, they look very fun and difficult enough to get value in them.
Zenith is Springfield's climbing hub; if you are looking to get stronger or just have fun, check them out! While your hands may be in tatters by the end (which for those less experienced, that is part of the sport; they get better and less fragile as you climb more and develop better technique), your spirits will be high! Climbing is one of the best sports ever; the climbing community is generally humble, encouraging, and supportive of everyone no matter the skill level.
Have fun!!!

Fun, unique experience. They have smaller walls and automatic belay lines for kids and different bouldering levels. They showed the kids how to hook themselves up so they could work everything on their own with just minor supervision. Only complaint was it's very pricey. The youth day pass was only $13, but then you have to pay another $7 to rent the shoes and harness. After rentals and tax for 2 kids the total was $44. The kids also complained about their hands hurting. After 30 minutes of climbing their hands were bright red with a couple blisters forming. We left after about 1 hour.

There is always a new challenge waiting as routes change frequently. The new (2021) Tension Board is nice for balancing out your strong and soft sides. My group of friends and I love hanging out here for a afternoon of fun. It is the perfect spot to get your workout in and have a insanely fun experience.
There are many levels of difficulty and even classes for you learn more. Each path is labeled to help you know what may be easy or challenging.
The courses include auto belays, top-rope belays, bouldering, and free climbing. There is also a workout section and small shop.
The place is super clean and the staff is insanely friendly. I highly recommend for anyone looking for an adventurous time.

Nice to have a gym at all in the area and it's very accessible for new climbers, however though their system for toprope is safe and as dummy-proof as can be, the system sets people up for failure and frustration if they ever dream of moving outdoors or even to a gym with less precautions. Coming on a weekend was a mistake to get any serious climbing done and staff was spread thin for the amount of parties they needed to babysit. Ended up just bouldering the whole time because staff wasn't available to do a belay test. Gym space was well utilized though and they had a decent amount of training equipment available.

Nice clean gym with a variety of climbs at different difficulties. Great place for kids, but the staff also treats the adults as kids. Being an experienced climbing, I knew beforehand how to belay but the staff insisted on me conforming to their techniques and foreshadowed the idea of revoking my belaying privilege if I didn't do it their way. I understand that they are enforcing the rules for safety reasons, but if they are going to have everyone sign a waiver that says they will not be responsible for any injuries then allow the customers to proceed at their own risk. I'm sure us as the customers will also very much like to avoid injuries of any degree. Hopefully next time, they won't treat me like I don't know what I'm doing.

Love climbing at Zenith! Great friendly atmosphere, fun routes, and 4 auto belays for just getting in some laps when I come alone. I am just getting back into climbing after a couple years and find the routes offered give me a good workout and help me to improve. Also, I find it funny that people said this place was expensive. I was a member at a climbing gym in Oregon and one in Virginia and they were both over $100/month. I think the price point is actually perfect! I dropped the Oregon membership because it was too expensive and the place was always packed. Feel like I get a lot more for a reasonable membership fee here.

I love this climbing gym dearly. Before it was opened springfieldβs climbing option was a gym called big rock which shut down a couple years before zenith was founded. Though big rock had a very open and welcoming atmosphere it paled in comparison to zeniths relaxed and cleanly environment. Zenithβs staff has always been very friendly and inviting and because of this Iβve continued climbing here since shortly after it was opened. I joined the youth climbing team twice and found it very motivating and rewarding for me and the rest of the climbers I trained with. The coach, Connor Dykes, does a great job at encouraging his teams to concur their fears and push their person limits on every challenge faced in the climbing gym and competitions. As well as the rest of the staff. Zenith is a great place to climb for beginners and advanced climbers, the routes/problems are challenging and innovative regardless of whether your climbing v1βs or v7βs. I would strongly recommend checking out the gym if your passing through springfield or looking for a new adventure :)

My son loves climbing here! The routes are changed on a regular basis, so there's always a new challenge for him. The auto-belays are nice because it means that he can climb on his own, since neither his father or I are certified to belay. They also offer camps and teams for youth, which is an awesome opportunity for kids in our area.

I got an amazing massage at Zenith! Merry is so intuitive and made me feel comfortable. She really helped relieve some of the backpain I was having. You don't even have to be an athlete to get a massage from her. She gave me a very relaxing massage!

The employees are first class in knowledge, experience and professionalism. I can't walk in without somebody cheerfully greeting me.
My favorite part about Zenith is that it's immaculately clean and clutter free.
The gym has enough wall space that I rarely, if ever, have to wait on a route to open up. There are a ton of routes and boulder problems to solve. I think the route setters are a bit evil though - in a good way.
I haven't tried the yoga classes yet, but have plans to.
This is a first class climbing gym and Springfield is lucky to have walls of this caliber.

Very clean gym with solid standards and well maintained equipment. I was disappointed that after signing waivers and logging in for the first time that it took staff 15 minutes to interact with us as we stood at the front looking for someone manning the front or really any interaction from staff. Iβm sure if I was a regular who was familiar with the staff it would have been better, but as first timers at this gym I guess I expected to have faster interaction with staff. Once we had staff check us in everything was fine, I just wish we didnβt feel like a complete bother to the staff. Would definitely come back! I just donβt think that it will become my regular gym for membership now.

Great place to go and hang out. Staff is friendly and helpful. They have routes of varying difficulties and a wall for young kids to enjoy.
Update: Now that we've climbed at gyms in KC, STL, and Tulsa Zenith is still our favorite. The route setters at Zenith do an incredible job.

Really nice gym. Great for competitions. I hope the have more. There's more open space so there was a lot of room. They could have had more seating available. There was just one small section where you really could watch climbers. Loved the food truck they got, Holy Cow. Can't wait to come back for more comps!

My kids LOVE this climbing center.
The staff is super chill and totally ready to help...just ask! π
All the gear you need is available to rent here. Zenith also has teams and different programs.
Learning the ropes (pun intended π) is not nearly as traumatic as one might feel before stepping through the doors!
My suggestion is to definitely try it out (even if youβre an βadultβ).
Definitely a great way to test your physical and for some their mental capabilities.
What a great feeling of accomplishment!!!
You can only fail when you tell yourself you canβt do something. Trying with your utmost effort will provide a huge confidence boost... anyway... two thumbs up from this gal! π€ππΌππΌπ

I've been here twice now and will be picking up a membership soon. This place is amazing, the staff, the facility, the equipment are all amazing. I used to climb obsessively years ago and am now introducing my two children to this awesome sport. I can't tell you how pleasantly surprised I was with everyone and everything at Zenith. Both of my kids are hooked, and I am certain we will be long time patrons.

I enjoy coming here to climb. It is one of the best if not the best I have been to. Their price is great and they offer a variety of in store gear and apparel for a reasonable price. Their climbing shoe selection tends to be pretty competitive pricewise even with online prices depending on what you are looking for. The staff are friendly, polite, and welcoming as you walk in.
I prefer to get my workout and climb time in early and am loving the new hours for monthly members which now starts at 630 am for those with a monthly membership.
They have done well providing a variety of routes with varying difficulty. There was a time their routes seem to have a gap in them and were either quite easy or seemingly quite difficult. Over the last few months they have done well filling that gap and providing multiple routes in varying difiiculty ratings. Their bouldering walls are set up well also with different types of problems to solve.

Edited: I've returned to Zenith after a year away, and it looks like they're really making positive strides toward setting more routes for beginners and intermediate climbers! I'd still like to see some 5.8-5.9 on the lead wall and a few more interesting V2-V3 boulders, but the management really seems to be listening to feedback. My daughter loves coming in here because they do a great job with the kids' area, and I'll be returning monthly for sure.
Original review:
I'm an intermediate climber who has visited 8 sport and bouldering gyms around the country, and I was very excited for the opening of this new gym here in my hometown! While I don't doubt the dedication of the staff or the owners in terms of their love for climbing, I'm disappointed in the lack of inspiring intermediate routes and boulder problems here. I tried a month-long membership and came in most days of that month, but there didn't seem to be a consistent schedule for re-setting the walls.
There is no feedback system or comment card box, so there's no way for climbers to share with other climbers whether routes seem above, below, or on-grade. The atmosphere is good and the holds are great, it just seems that there are two types of setting: ladders for beginners, and difficult routes with a lot of pulling, big moves, and dynos.
I think you could retain a lot more business from new climbers (and appeal to older, overweight, or long-time climbers returning to the sport after months or years away) by adding beginner and intermediate routes with interesting moves that don't require a ton of pulling -- dihedral climbs with more push than pull, slab climbs with large foot holds requiring balance, and traverse routes would all be a great start.
This facility is great for experienced climbers and kids' parties, but the new climbers I observed in the space while I was there seemed frustrated that there wasn't much they could hold onto.
If you want to retain new climbers and encourage them to pursue the sport (since it's so fantastic), a facility more conducive to their success would be a better way to do business.
I may still come back if the intermediate setting improves and there's some way to provide direct feedback on route comment cards.

The walls and overall facility are fantastic. They have a little fitness center too, but it isn't anything to write home about. The place is a bit smaller than some other climbing gyms I've been to and it can get pretty crowded on a busy evening.

Awesome Place! Friendly and Helpful Staff. There is a full retail section as well. They don't gouge you on the prices either. Nothing worse than trying to buy shoes online! So thankful to have a climbing gym in our area of this caliber. Very accommodating to children as well. I have 2 kids and its hard for me to get away on my own, or find something that we can all do together. They loved it and are ready to go back.
