I’ve always had a difficult time making yoga a consistent practice in my life. But after my first class at Headwaters over a year and a half ago, I was hooked. Something clicked for me and I’ve been loving every class since. It probably has to do with the wonderful teachers who are engaging, kind and compassionate. They always bring such a great energy to class that you can’t help but feel better afterwards. I really appreciate the mix of different classes so there’s always something for what kind of yoga you feel like you need that day. I’m so grateful for Headwaters! Would highly recommend to anyone considering to try it out.

I feel disappointed with my only experience here. And unfortunately did not even get to take class. It was my first time booking a class here on Class Pass - I have used class pass for some time now and absolutely love the benefits it provides. Seeing as it supports pass holders and studios, it is great having the flexibility to take classes all over town to support different studios and get to know the community etc. However, this studio closes their booking window 30 minutes early and with no warning I checked one minute and then the next was unable to book a class. So, with a positive attitude I arrived ten minutes before the class started to see if there was anything they could do so I could still join. To which the teacher rudely told me there was nothing that could be done and it would impact the studio’s benefit of partnering with class pass to keep the booking window open until the class starts. She said my only option was to pay for a class then. However I pay 80$/month for a handful of classes with my pass. So no, I will not be paying for your class. No offer of a free class for the first time. So I left the studio and went elsewhere. This is the first fitness center I have heard of ending their sign up early. Meanwhile there was what looked like only a few people in class. I know there aren’t a ton if studios in town so maybe this is the status quo here but I don’t think any of the previous studios I have been to would have treated me this way. Don’t you want more business?

Understand the appeal, but if you’re looking for an inviting and calm atmosphere in which to enjoy yoga, this is not the place for you. Overall it’s not a welcoming space and I wouldn’t recommend it.

I greatly enjoy practicing at Headwaters Hot Yoga. As a newbie to yoga, I have found the teachers and environment inclusive, friendly, and welcoming to yogis of all ages and abilities. The studio is beautiful and very clean; and, I really appreciate that the environment (humidity & heat) is kept according to what is posted in the class descriptions. A 26/2 class has always been hot enough 🙂.

I highly recommend checking out a class here!

Headwaters is, and will continue to be, my home studio and I am so grateful. I won’t say this practice is easy…it is not, but don’t let that stop you from going. There are amazing benefits to be had at every level of the experience.
This studio has saved me from a life of chronic back pain twice. After establishing a regular practice and getting out of pain 10 years ago, I let life and bad decision making distract me from going. Slowly, but surely I ended up miserable and in constant pain again. I came back to the studio 2.5 years ago and I will never leave again!

My friend and I have been with Headwaters for a few months now. We had been on the hunt for a studio for a while. Headwaters is our new home. We travel from Florence 2-5 times a week because we love it so much. The atmosphere is very laid back, the instructors are well educated and kind, the facility is clean and the classes are phenomenal. Since beginning my practice here I have a grown personally in new ways I would strive for in the past. Life just seems easier. I am thankful to Headwaters for creating the space to be even more of myself and grow in new ways.

I am a veteran practitioner, with over a decade of experience in the Bikram modality and others, so I expect and appreciate the discipline and attention to detail of a 26/2 session. However I do have an extensive injury history and sometimes, I make small, intentional, modifications to my practice as my body dictates, which have zero impact on my neighbor. So please, Headwaters Instructors, if you are going to micromanage the intentional micro tweaks I make to my postures, do me a favor and drop the petulant tone from your voice when you do so. It's not what you say, it's how you say it.

Headwaters is a hidden gem. One of the best yoga studios in Missoula and offers a variety of classes. Every instructor is extremely warm and passionate and has something valuable to offer in each of their classes. This studio has helped me develop physical, mental, and emotional strength and flexibility. My passion for yoga outside of the studio has blossomed, due to the hard work they’ve put into teaching. Extremely appreciative of their team.
HIGHLY recommend reading the descriptions of each class before you go, so you are aware of what you’re you’re walking into.

TRANSPHOBIC
This place is not safe if you are trans or non-binary. Take your business somewhere else. I left 30 min into the practice because the instructor, Taylor Johnson, asked me to cover up my chest. When I asked why the cis men weren’t being asked to cover up, I was told it was the policy. At this point I decided to leave because clearly my chest was offensive to the instructor despite Headwaters website stating that they don’t discriminate based on gender, identity etc.

As I was leaving another instructor asked what happened and if she could give me a shirt. I told her I didn’t want to ever come back to a place that gives cis gender men privileges over others. I told the instructor that I felt extremely claustrophobic and my options were run out of class and disrupt the practice or remove my shirt quietly, feel better and continue forward. At least 4 men in the class were shirtless but because I was assigned female at birth, I was asked to cover up. It was extremely unprofessional and they absolutely do not uplift or support the LGBTQIA++ community by employing someone who feels uncomfortable around trans/non-binary people.

The other thing that I found weird about the practice was about 15 min in, I was quietly taking a drink of my water bottle and Taylor asked the class that we refrain from taking a water break until the assigned break so we wouldn’t disturb our neighbors. I thought it was weird to tell people to essentially ignore their bodies when in need of water, or assume we came into that space to disturb each other, but I didn’t focus on it too much. It wasn’t until Taylor singled me out, assumed my identity and enforced a policy on me and not the other men that I decided to leave.

Ultimately what I gathered from this class at Headwaters is that the instructor is insecure and desperately in need of controlling the practice and is not interested in letting each person quietly find their flow unless you fit their gender norms. This experience was so disappointing and does not reflect the meaning of yoga whatsoever.

March 9th 2010 I sustained multiple significant traumatic injuries after a speed flying accident. My parachute canopy collapsed and I went spinning into the 4000 foot cliff that I launched from. I had to be helicoptered to the hospital with three days of back to back surgeries to repair first the compound fracture of my left tibia and talus, fibula fracture, fracture of my second, third, and fourth metatarsal, and commuted fracture of my cuboid and cuneiform. The second day was to repair the extensive fractures to my right side hemipelvis. The third day was a surgery on my spine after sustaining transverse fracture through T 12 and compression fracture of L1. Nine months later I had another back surgery after the hardware failed. I write all this to say that BIKRAM YOGA was one of the things that save my life. It Has been as equally important (if not more so) as a person who retrieve me in the helicopter, as the various surgeons who put me back together, as a rehabilitation facility the taught me how to walk again. Even when I was non-weight bearing and in a wheelchair my instructor allowed me to come to YOGA! I I could not physically do the postures, but I could mentally do the postures. I envisioned myself performing the action. I trained my muscles to contract and I was able to heal in proper alignment. I started BIKRAM YOGA only 6 months before my accident and I know my injuries would’ve been worse had I not been in such good shape before hand. The balance of strength and flexibility is some thing that every athlete tries to obtain. I feel my bruises heal faster, my mosquito bites go away quicker, I am able to handle the stress in life with increased grace, and celebrate each year that there is a studio like this one near me! Because I know that I wouldn’t be able to do everything that I’m doing today if it wasn’t for the studio! We do these things not because they are easy but because they are hard and the long term benefits is similar to the fountain of youth for the body and soul!

Bikram Yoga Missoula is a welcoming community of fitness and friendship. The Bikram program is widely known for its health benefits. But the full restorative power is found in the many kind instructors and friendly practitioners of all abilities. The downtown location and parking are convenient if you're trying to squeeze in a class around work or social plans.

What a wonderful studio this is. I had been dropping in occasionally for a few years and just became a member in December. The variety of instructors and classes they offer (classic, 1hr, bikram blend, 26plus, inferno palates) provides the perfect mix. The teachers are always working to provide a good learning experience. A true gem!

so I can tell you that the magic of Bikram yoga is the arrow that hits the target here: the parasympathetic nervous system. try different classes, different instructors. you will know it when you find it. the "chill" response is the peace that passeth understanding. body, mind and heart at the intersection of each asana. dont give up. dont let anyone steal your peace.

One of the great things about Bikram Yoga is the consistency of quality between studios. However, this particular studio stands out from the rest in many respects not the least of which is a wet, cold lavender-infused towel being placed in your hands during final Savasana! It is really something to look forward to at the end of class.

I love this studio! I thought I would not do well with the heat, but it has changed my body and mind. There is a nice variety of classes, and I like the spread of class times available for someone that works 8-5. Some of the instructors have different teaching styles, but I've found that they all have something unique and valuable to teach me.

Also-- I used to wake up with back pain nearly every day, and hot yoga has drastically improved this. Highly recommend!

This studio warmly welcomed me when I was new to Bikram yoga. Since I started a few months ago, I’ve attended three times a week and gotten a chance to know the wonderful instructors. Each one is compassionate, knowledgeable and encouraging. I have an excruciating health condition that has markedly improved over the course of my time at the studio. I often wake up in a lot of pain, come to a class and leave pain-free. I highly recommend this studio!

I've never been that interested in yoga before. Due to an overuse injury I couldn't run for a while and decided to try Bikram. It was brutal the first time because I didn't know what to expect and it is NOT gentle laying-around-on-your-mat-yoga (although you CAN do that if you want). But, despite my initial shock, I gave it another try and was hooked. It shaped and changed my body in such a short amount of time. It also taught me to meditate. It is physically and mentally demanding and the crew in this studio honor that for those of us that like to push ourselves. The studio is spacious and I love the natural light that flows in, and, as a tall person, I can actually stretch out!

A great studio with helpful teachers offering beginner classes for anyone starting out in Yoga or Pilates. The 105 degree heat is soothing on those cold winter days and a good twist to add into your practice to challenge yourself. After a couple weeks, I notice a difference in how I feel and an improvement in flexibility and balance. Thank you!!

The instructors are wonderful, each adds something different to the challenging hot yoga practice. I feel encouraged by the teachers and calmed, focused and strengthened by the practice. This has been an excellent practice for loosening stiff joints, increasing cardiovascular function. It can be very challenging to not push to hard in this style of yoga, it facilitates a discovery of self knowing the longer you stay with it. Recently added classes in pilates, core 40, and 1 hour are fantastic and fun.

Horrible experience. The owner, Cheryl, was extremely rude regarding drinking water during class (which a friend warned me about). I had to leave early and she actually came out of the class to tell me it was disruptive and not to do it in the future, which is the first time this has ever happen when taking yoga. The facility is run down. There are stains all on the ceiling. I signed up for the 30 day pass but after two classes I will not return or tell people to stay away. Plus, it is ridiculous to pay $17 for a class when there are way better classes for cheaper in Missoula.
