Been a member since 2022, chose Genesis specifically for the extra amenities such as pool, sauna and steam room. Much pricier than any gym I’ve been part of but at the time was worth it, paying $64/month. When I initially signed up, I was allowed to bring a family or a friend for free, that was one of the big perks at the time. Sometime the next year they changed that and now a family member had to be signed up on your contract and they charged another extra $44. My spouse and I were paying $88/month. They also charge an annual fee, about $42, on top of your monthly fee so be prepared for that once a year. Recently I moved and am unable to go to a Genesis. I went in to cancel my membership before the charge date but my spouse wanted to stay on. Not only did they charge my monthly fee for another month but a $50 transfer fee as well to transfer into their name. I did enjoy my time at Genesis for the most part although it was always very busy and quite a few times the equipment was broken (stair steppers the most), I will never be a member again due to the immense amount of money it cost me.

I briefly attended this location after having a poor experience at the Westroads location. Cass Street was smaller, less crowded, and had a more inviting atmosphere, which I appreciated.
However, I ran into similar issues when trying to cancel my membership. I was told I had to cancel in person, so I came to this location to do so. During my first attempt, a manager persistently questioned me about why I wanted to cancel. After I shared that I’d had a disappointing experience with a personal trainer at Westroads, he immediately tried to sell me on training at Cass Street instead.
When I told him I preferred working with a female trainer, he responded by saying that male trainers were better and that members “get a better workout with male trainers than with females.” I asked him directly if he was suggesting that female trainers were less effective or trying to diminish their credibility. At that point, I asked him to stop and proceed with the cancellation.
He then focused heavily on the $200 cancellation fee. I told him I was willing to pay it and be done, but he still pushed for me to wait until the end of my contract instead of processing the cancellation right away. I complied, waited out the contract, and returned again—at which point I was finally able to go through the cancellation process more smoothly.

Aside from this issue, I had no major complaints about the Cass Street facility itself. My only concern was the excessive pushback during cancellation, which seemed more about retaining profit than respecting a member’s decision to leave.

Im beyond tired of this location. For the condition of the gym - it should be half price! Over the years its become more run down, dirtier, problematic, machines always broke down and as of recently the elevator has been broke for what seems like months. For someone who has had knew issues and a recent lower muscle tear - it became too difficult to climb 6 flights of stairs.

Staff doesnt listen. Its funny to see the egos at this location. Ive walked up to the front desk recently and just been ignored. Theres really nothing to be so overjoyed over!! Bathrooms are disgusting! Some of the members sit and hotbox in their vehicles before they come in and they smell ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS. Yet, they’re allowed in and disrupt other peoples workouts with their stench.

Last time I was in there it smelt like burnt bacon, weed, b.o and fart! Literally ended the workout early because of the smell.

Mens restroom looks like it hasnt been deep cleaned in 15 years! I drive 20 min outta my way to go to another location….

Its so bad that staff are leaving to go to other locations. If that tells you anything….

TLDR; trying to leave VASA and find a nicer gym, this is not the place, worse than any Planet Fitness, and 5x the cost.

I've been on the hunt recently to find a new gym. I'm leaving VASA cause it's becoming dirty, way too busy, and the ammenities such as the message chairs, pools, and saunas are always broken or didn't pass health code.

Well, let me tell you, this place is even worse for 2.5x the price. I went in on a day pass, thinking I'd be in a nicer gym then the one I am use to. Nope. The bathroom was musty, the benches have decades of wear, there was (and I counted) 20+ gum stains on the ground, mildew in every corner. They didn't have soap in the bathroom, just body wash... I was tempted to leave then.

But I didn't. I went upstairs to see what the equipment was like. The pictures they post here are misleading. It's very small, dark, and grimy. Not the upscale-ish images they have.

50% of the equipment is from the early 2000s or late 1990s (I looked up the equipment) and are rusted, dented, and chipping. Their plates are a smörgåsbord of 3-4 different types/brands which makes it very hard to balance loads. Different brands usually have a pound or 2 difference between them, especially the older ones, and you could tell here. I'll be honest, the about 15+ year older upper chest hammer strength did hit pretty damn good compared to newer models, but the hand grips were cracked... which seemed to be a trend on nearly every other machine I used, some didn't even have hand grips. Just metal and a lose screw hinge. And overall, there just isn't a lot of options here. I found it hard to do a standard routine that other gyms offer.

That being said, all the staff I talked to seemed delightful.

But with refurbished Planet Fitness's having free weight bench and squat racks, VASA in town, and Crunch opening new locations. There really isn't any reason to go here and spend the money and get locked into their sketchy contracts.

I have been going to this gym for 5 years, the downhill of this gym is saddening. The cleanliness is nothing, I have been to other gym it’s just this one that not clean, broken equipment. Outdated equipment as well. I never see one person clean, wiping equipment down. It has a mildew smell right when you walk in. The steams room smells like urine. The women lock room, I used to come in early morning before work, I kept seeing roaches, refused to go back when the manger just hit with her shoes.

Personnel especially in the kids club is great but the gym needs to be remodeled. Majority of gyms in the area have been remodeled but this one although others are newer. Also, at this location something is always broken and they take long to replace. The heating or cooling is often broken in kids club. Gets really cold in there or when it’s hot it gets really hot. There is always issues in the bathrooms with sinks or toilets. Given the size of this gym, it should be higher priority. Could be cleaner as well.

The upstairs is fine. Lots of options and machines - the machines are regularly in different states of disarray and do not seem to get fixed until there is a large problem or it’s completely inoperable but honestly, it’s not a dealbreaker for me.
What is a dealbreaker for me? Is the fact that there are cockroaches in the locker rooms. The women’s locker room specifically I saw live cockroaches in when I told the front desk they said “not again”.
Which if you know anything about cockroaches, definitely not a creature you want around your bag that is going in and out of your car and home 🤢 the “not again” statement from the front desk lets me know that this is not an isolated problem and if you have worked out here with a bag in and out of the locker room, I would definitely suggest always checking for cockroaches.😖

It seems like every time I come to work out things like simple cleaning gets worse. In the group X room where the weights are there is dirt and dust bunnies everywhere. Also the hooks that hold the mats is broken and mats are on the floor. In the garage there is a piece of concrete that is broken and needs removed.

I came into Genesis on Cass at looking to get a membership. I was greeted first by Bush the front Desk employee who was so nice. He went and got a fitness advisor named Anyuan who understood everything I was looking to get accomplished on my visit there. Ah, the elusive towel – a rare creature that vanishes precisely between 7-9pm, leaving members to wonder if they’ve entered some sort of sweaty twilight zone. Management has cracked the code of inconvenience by deciding that this is the perfect time to wash every single towel. Brilliant.

And if you dare ask the staff, you’ll get the classic shoulder shrug – a true display of ‘we couldn’t care less.’ Adjusting the towel-washing schedule? Clearly too revolutionary an idea.

Eddy was awesome! I'm a bodybuilder visiting from Germany and I wanted to visit an American gym with good equipment and cool amenities. Eddy was cool enough to not only offer a week pass, but gave me a tour of the gym as well. He also was very personal and showed me his cool anime collection at his desk. I appreciate the conversation and was glad he wasn't robotic. Definitely give this man a raise. His energy and efforts are very welcoming in a gym community. They said they cleaned it everyday but I don't believe that because the floor would feel so slimy.After about 3 weeks of going there my hands had a rash from the dirty machines. I talked to the assistant manager and he said he worked out a couple times a day and he didn't think it was bad it all. So as of now after talking to him he didn't even care. I am going to discontinue my membership but I will definitely find another place to go that's cleaner.
