I had previously given this gym a 1 star review with harsh critique and they definitely took it to heart and improved the gym. That or they were worried about the brand new competitor moving in close by, but there has been a miraculous amount of change in the past year. The gym seems to be cleaned fairly often with a nice open area to do whatever exercises.

Changed since first review
1. Equipment leather replaced
2. Safety concerns like missing screws and jagged metal ends on equipment has been replaced or fixed
3. Equipment moved to better spots in the gym(subjective)
4. More disinfectant spray bottles placed on every corner to keep good hygiene
5. New weight benches, treadmills, barbells, and barbell weights
6. Better sorting area for equipment/ attachments
7. Fresh paint and newly replaced water fountain with dispenser for water bottles

Wishlist
1. More lockable lockers instead of open cubbies
2. A standing calf machine
3. A dedicated area for deadlifts and more bumper plates (the new barbell plates seem to be a soft material but that could still damage the floor doing heavier weights)
4. The old weight scale back. (There is a new electronic weight scale in a changing room, but it's missing its power adapter and uses 4 AA batteries instead that are unreliable)
5. A banana heavy bag

Problems that persist
1. Knurling on some dumbbells are rubbed off making them slippery in the hands
2. End caps nuts of the dumbbells are loose causing the ends to free spin
3. Large water spot stain on carpet where old water filter was located

Another thing people commonly mention as a problem for Anytime Fitness is the lack of staff during business hours. When people want to cancel their membership there is no one there to do it. I haven't experienced this problem personally, but I thought I had to mention it.

Overall the place has turned into a 5 star gym with these changes. It isn't perfect, but it's damn near close. I typically train at night and I have seen an increase of people coming in during those hours so this Anytime Fitness must be doing something right.

About a month or so ago, signs were posted that they were going to be doing constructive to improve our gym experience. So far, those 'improvements' have been a newly painted gym, new TVs, a couple new Olympic bars on the main floor, and the movement of equipment. None of these things improve my gym experience, especially not the paint, the TVs (huge waste of money between the TVs and cable service), and the current placement of equipment. The equipment placement sucks, especially near the abductor machine, the solo cable machine, and the hacksaw. You're either extremely close to others or hit yourself on equipment if you're not analyzing your every move. What would improve my gym experience is clean restrooms, improved or new equipment, and the rearranging of equipment. It would also be nice if they enforced rules and gym etiquette. There's an Islander guy who comes in the early morning and hogs 3 to 5 machines at once! It is such an inconvenience to everyone since there's basically one of everything!

Once Planet Fitness opens, it'll be interesting to see how many people cancel and switch. I know it's a high probability for myself!

I normally go to the AF at Red Rock. It seems that most of the cardio machines don’t work in some capacity. The tv’s on the treadmills don’t work most of the time and 2 of the treadmills will just stop working in the middle of a workout. And when a machine is out of order, it takes weeks to get it fixed. So I tried going to this AF in Lemmon Valley but it doesn’t seem any better. Examples are the elliptical machines will show the incline is going up, but the actual incline doesn’t physically move. You’d think for how much a membership is, there’d be some quality equipment. I might have to try out Planet Fitness when it opens. Might be worth driving a little further.

This is one of the largest Anytime Fitness facilities in the United States. It is well equipped and kept very clean. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful.

Update 5/1/25
This location changed hands a couple of years ago. Since then, some of the operations have altered. A couple of the benches have gone missing and are sorely missed during the 5-8 weekday rush hours. The office hours have been cut, making it more difficult to make account changes for people working a traditional job. Even then, the reliability of someone being in the office has also declined within those office hours. There is some sort of difficulty with keeping paper products in stock. They've stopped supplying kleenex entirely. There have been several weekends where the dispensers were out of paper towels, and there was one woe begotten event where there wasn't a paper product to be found in the entire gym- even in the bathrooms. The temperature in the coldest and hottest months tend to reflect a priority to save on climate control costs rather than their members' comfort. To top it off, they broke contract and increased my dues by 25% without notification about a year ago. Which I'll charitably describe as shady business practice at best. If you're in between this gym and another that is somewhat equidistant, I would heartily recommend whatever the alternative is.

I have called, emailed, stopped at the location when the MANAGER said she would be there, and yet, cannot cancel my membership. How convenient the employee working at the time the manager was supposed to be there, can only initiate memberships- not cancel. This is a money hungry franchise. None of the Anytime gyms in Reno have good reviews. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I need to cancel because we are moving away from the location we currently have a membership at. Due to this treatment, I will NEVER have a membership at any anytime fitness.

This is the most ridiculous thing ever. I have to write a review to get some kind of help. My account is overdrawn $100 for the SECOND time after being promised that my account has been paused. I see no end to this and paying $200+ from November to January is CRAZY! Please please, if you are someone that changes gym quite often DO NOT sign up here as no one ever answers the phone! You need to make an appt to talk to someone BUT NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE to even make an appt. I have called over 25 times and have left multiple voicemails since November. First things first, the gym smells musty. Not like people are working out musty, but moldy musty. I tried a personal trainer program and it was so bad that she would have the door open by where we were working out. We didn't use the equipment, my guess is because the equipment that I attempted to use was worn and didn't work well. But we still worked out.

I was locked into a contract and got a doctor note to get out of the contract. It took a whole week to be able to get someone to cancel the contract. After being told it would cancel immediately, I was charged for a whole month. Apparently it is common practice that even if a doctor says you are not physically capable of using the membership, you still have to pay for another month. I called the location various times with no one returning my calls, emailed with no response. I finally called the parent company and reached out to the Better Business Bureau and got a response after another week. Then the general manager stated that I did not provide a doctor's note, which I had given not only to the person I finally got ahold of at the gym, but emailed to the district manager.

When told by the parent company that she would try to get me a refund for the two payments that came out after I cancelled, it did not happen. The new general manager then stated there was supposed to be a $50 cancellation fee on top of the two bi weekly payments that came out but I didn't pay that so there was give there.

This has been my absolute WORST experience with any company. I do not recommend the gym or getting into a contract with this company that does their best to not let you out of a contract.

We signed a cancellation on 12/26/24... This was after spending an entire week calling, texting, emailing, and going in person with ZERO return communication until we were finally lucky enough to catch someone at the gym. The cancellation was done with a doctor's note. We were told when the cancellation was processed, we would get an email... Big surprise- we never got one. Then, 2 weeks after the cancellation we were billed again. We have spent the past 2 weeks trying to get ahold of someone again... Big surprise- ZERO return communication and no one on site at the location! After several calls, we finally found the number for the parent company. The person we spoke to confirmed that, even though we signed paperwork on 12/26/24, that the cancellation still has not been processed! Your business ethics are questionable at best. Your customer service is non-existent. We will never use another anytime fitness because even though corporate can't control the individual actions of their franchisees, clearly they have franchisees that have no business operating under their brand.

UPDATE: Gotta love the fact that I got an obviously generic reply... "Please contact us directly"... What a joke! They obviously didn't even read the review! We TRIED TO CONTACT YOU DIRECTLY BUT YOU NEVER ANSWER OR RETURN A CALL, A TEXT OR AN EMAIL!

Save yourself the trouble from getting a membership here. This review is way overdue. Trying to cancel your membership is a pain at this gym. They NEVER answer the phone (left multiple voicemails with no callback), team is rarely in their office, and the manager had told me my membership was cancelled when it was still active and charging my card. They may have a new team, but this was in early 2024. Horrible service, expensive membership for barely any room or equipment, and hard to cancel membership because you can’t do it online (and they didn’t make it easy to reach them). JUST AVOID!!!!! They don’t even deserve this one star.

It's not the same as it was 5 or so years ago. Things are in disrepair, they no longer vend beverages or protein, but it still maintains its small no nonsense gym feel. People are polite, respectful, and are there to get work done. If you're looking for that, it's worth coming here, but maybe not for the price. That said, it's 24 hours and I love working out in the middle of the night.

Do not sign up!! Impossible to cancel your membership. This location is completely unmanaged. I gave my 30 day notice to cancel my membership at the agreed upon date in May. After my membership ended, they continued to charge me twice more. Since then I’ve left 5 voicemails and 2 emails that have gone unanswered about the charges. I’ve cancelled my billing method to prevent further charges and reached out to their parent company or something called ABC but it’s still impossible to cancel without a face to face with a manager who won’t call back or respond to email.

I’ve been going here since November of 2019 and granted just started at the height of Covid, it was amazing. Staff was great, clean gym, equipment being updated or fixed quick. And management was there and responded. When it turned over to corporate, it’s been impossible to keep trainers, managers, etc The turnover is insane but still decide to charge a high price to be “locked in” for training when we get a new trainer monthly it seemed like but we couldn’t back out or cancel so we have to ride it out in hopes a trainer sticks (thank goodness Nolan has so far).

The cleanliness of the gym has gone way downhill over the past 6 months. To cut a budget for sanitizing wipes and paper towels is not good. If the gym is a place we go to, to stay healthy- then sanitizing wipes, paper towels, overall cleanliness of the gym should be top priority. Where is the $$ going that members are paying for? Also, the AC!!! Where is it? It’s a straight sauna on the turf. Don’t even have to do an exercise and we are sweating profusely.

Please listen to your paying members and at least get the basics back up to par.

Facility at this location was fine but my membership ended beginning of June and I am still getting charged. I’ve been calling 6 times a day and no answer, so i finally went in person and they said I had to have an appointment. So i made the appointment and when I was on my way one of the staff members had to cancel and said they would cancel my membership manually but i continued getting charged after that. I called 5 times and on the 6th call they finally answered and said they would refund me and cancel. 2 weeks later I get charged again and no one is answering.

This gym has potential if they ever had management that actually managed the gym, versus being sales concentrated. Or even staffed someone to come in a couple hours a day to clean and ensure supplies were available. I'm sure consistent members would do this, for a discounted rate even. I've been going to this gym since November 2023. They've gone through atleast 3 different managers. The last 3 months or so, paper towels are CONSTANTLY unavailable, resulting in being unable to clean equipment. Equipment is often out of order or damaged. If I wasn't locked in a contract, I'd go to a different gym to recieve the services I pay for on a continual, consistent bases: a CLEAN gym with operable equipment- that maybe is upgraded! This is a bare bones gym, with minimal, very basic equipment with no new additions or upgrades, and no extras. I guess still better than Planet Fitness, yet I find I'd probably opt for a membership there if I could. Membership I'd 21.99 billed BIWEEKLY 🙄

What a shady, horrible place!!! My husband was working in Reno and started going to anytime fitness on a month to month basis. When the job he was on ended, he came back to Texas and told them he wasn’t going to be using the gym anymore and to cancel it. It wasn’t until he was back in Texas did they tell him he had to sign cancellation paperwork in their store but he was back in Texas. Apparently they expected us to get a plane ticket to fly there and sign a form. They then said to mail a letter stating he wanted to cancel. (Strange to have to do this considering he’s in a month to month and not a contract) but he mailed the letter. They claimed they never received it. We then mailed it certified. The slip came back unsigned and they still claimed they never received it. Mind you, they have sent a balance to collections!!! We went to the post office and they gave me proof that anytime fitness north reno DID receive the letter and we have the form they electronically signed. So rather than keep their word and cancel this, they have chosen to try to ruin his credit with this. Do NOT ever go to this gym!!! They make it impossible to cancel and then hit your credit with fraudulent charges!!!! Horrible company!!!

It's a decent gym if you can find equipment. Here's the issue. They will renew your contract without you agreeing too it, they will send you to collections without any notification....Then pretend to know nothing about your problem and talk their way out of it. Very bad business practice and I am now with a proper gym that isn't trying to rob me. And don't try to respond to save face in this review because I have no reason to right a review full of lies. I joined this gym in August of 2021 and have lost 60lbs since! The gym is kept immaculately clean and well stocked. The staff is very friendly. They have everything I need and it’s right next to home. Because of how well the gym is taken care of, I want to go work out daily. A big part of my weight loss success if because of this Anytime Fitness Location.
I also want to add that as a woman, gyms can be an uncomfortable place to be and not once have I ever felt uncomfortable here. That speaks volumes for the type of place it is.

Clean, lots of great equipment, best bathrooms compared to other AF in Reno. Reason I’m giving 4 stars is due to their poor response to covid precautions. Not only do they not enforce social distancing and masks but they are threatening their members with legal action if they file a complaint to OSHA regarding their lack of responsible covid precautions (see pic which was posted on door).

This gym could easily be the best and safest (due to their new air filtering system) AF in Reno with the nicest staff if they just enforce masks like the downtown and west locations.

Went to one of many group training classes yesterday that is offered by Anytime. Could not have been more pleased with the whole experience and knowledge of the trainer Justin. He was very professional and thorough about each stretch and movement we were doing and makes everyone feel so comfortable and good about ourselves with no pressure or expectations as well as a fantastic personality. I have lived in the North Valleys since 1988. Previously, I was a member of 24 Hour Fitness. The staff didn't care unless you wished to purchase a personal training session. The machines were dirty and the air vents were clogged with dust. When this was brought to the staffs attention, they would agree to get it fixed right away. This did not happen.

I waited a long time to get a fitness facility in our area. I knew there wasn't a sauna, jacuzzi, etc., so the complainers that gave a lower score are idiots. If you want those things, join a gym that does. The staff here is phenomenal. They actually care how your progress is going and I always get a smile from them while I am there. This gym is not a meat market, but an actual workout facility. This gym has diversified equipment for my needs and safe access 24/7. I appreciate the care the staff put into this gym. Thank you.

Friendly and helpful faculty. Gym is small and provides everything needed for a proper workout. They do a great job with keeping the bathroom and equipment clean. However the membership fee isn't worth it. At the price they charge you are better off with some of the bigger gyms in Reno which are much nicer and provide more space. You pay about the same or less at the bigger gyms.

Have been going here for years. Pretty small for the price but it’s close to home. Seem to always have machines down especially treadmills. With that being said it does allow you to go to other anytimes and the staff is great at this location.

Friendly staff, mellow members, and way cleaner than any gym has a right to be. They keep the equipment in excellent repair, and I love the variety of offerings (free weights, functional fitness area, machines, on-demand workout videos). They also have private showers.

It's amazing to see what Brandon and Amber have been able to do with this business. The staff and trainers are amazing!! Rachel Koester and Troy Horner have been my trainers for some time now and I couldn't say enough good things about them. The facility is immaculate the customer service is top notch. Brandon and Amber actually care about their members. If you are struggling with weight loss this is your first stop.

I have been going to Anytime Fitness in the North Valley's for going on three years. Brandon and his team are awesome!! Always willing to encourage and help with anything I need. They are adding new equipment all the time and the gym is always nice and clean. Thank you for everything! I would not go anywhere else!

The anytime fitness gym in the North Valleys is one of the cleanest, nicest, gyms I have ever seen. The equipment is in great condition and the owners take pride in maintaining a great place. The trainers that work at the gym are in my opinion some of the best in Reno. I have done bootcamps with Rachel and Justin and have been personally trained by Lisa and they are excellent. If you are looking to get healthy, lose some weight in a clean, safe environment, this is the place.

I have been to a couple of the other Anytime Fitness locations in various places, and I have yet to come across one as nice and clean as this one is. It is very well maintained and it is obvious that the owner and staff care a great deal about the customer experience. Occasionally, during work I end up going to the Mae Anne location during my lunch break and the condition of the gym and equipment is appalling in comparison. The weights are very dirty, and smell very funky (yes they smell... weird i know). Anyways, I don't want to rag on any gym as much as I would like to praise the owner and staff of the North Hills Anytime Fitness. Thank you!
