The scammed me for three months when I canceled my membership. They continued to charge me. I went to the front desk and they told me someone has been using my account. Which is impossible since I was the only one who held my key card. They then said they would refund me but I have never received that refund and it’s been 5 years. This gym was a waste of money. Do not go here!!

UPDATE: The following review still holds true, but I do want to mention after this review was posted which was after my phone call with management where they very clearly and confidently told me I would not be getting a refund…surprise, surprise they refunded my annual fee, along with mine and my wife’s monthly charges. Funny how that works.

Let me preface this by saying my wife left an honest, detailed review of this gym outlining serious issues with cleanliness, broken equipment, and overall poor management. Rather than take accountability and attempt to resolve those problems, the owner decided to retaliate by TERMINATING her membership. Yes she paid her membership dues just days prior, and instead of addressing concerns like a professional business should, they kicked her out for daring to tell the truth.

Here’s where it gets even more laughable when I called to cancel MY membership, which they conveniently just charged $75 for on June 2nd, I was told I had to give 30 days notice to cancel. Let me say that again: THEY can terminate a paid membership with no warning because they didn’t like a review, but I can’t cancel mine without 30 days notice. Make that make sense.

The place is a mess outdated, broken equipment, sweat stains left untouched, weights scattered everywhere, and an elitist clique mentality from some trainers who seem to think they own the place. God forbid you use a bench they might need 10 minutes from now they’ll make sure you know you’re not welcome unless you’re in the inner circle.

This gym thrives on low prices and location convenience, but beyond that, it’s a breeding ground for mismanagement, poor hygiene, damaged gear, and retaliatory business practices. If you value your time, your health, or basic decency, take your money elsewhere.

You can always judge a gym or any business not by how perfect they are, but by how they handle feedback. This place just proved exactly who they are.

Update: this review ruffled feathers which is fine. But rather than responding and trying to rectify certain issues. The owner decided to react and terminate my membership. They did however refund my membership fee, my husbands fee, and his annual that was also paid a short time before this instance.

I'm just going to be honest and real. I can not wait for my membership to end. The only positives this gym has going for itself is the price point, 24 hr, and it's a short commute from home for me. Majority of the equipment is dated, damaged, or in constant need of repairs. Not only is this gym very crowded the gym etiquette is non existent. I have had VERY few pleasant interactions, weights aren't re racked and when they are they are typically so out of order half your workout is getting things semi organized. Very few people wipe off their equipment after use even when there's visible sweat left behind.
The gym itself isn't clean by any stretch the hip thrust machine (also broken in terms of you can't make adjustments to the settings) has had the same thing carved into the dust for a year. If you don't know or haven't worked with some of the trainers there do not expect them to be kind to you and if your using a bench that sits in front of the weights their clients are about to use you can expect to be asked to move. This gym has an "it is what it is" type of attitude.

This gym’s response to getting a negative review was to immediately cancel the person’s membership who left the review just after they paid their monthly fee and is refusing to refund it. Their husband who also attends the gym was charged his annual and monthly fee and they are refusing to refund or let him cancel his membership even though he and his wife work out together and he has no interest in supporting a business who treated his wife this way. How childish of a business to react this way instead of responding to some very real complaints from their customers. I would not recommend going here. The equipment being always broken and the gym being dirty might be more forgivable if the people who worked there and owned it were a little nicer. As it stands it’s a lose lose. I decided to give this gym a try after my best friend recommended it. While it’s not the cleanest or most modern gym I’ve been to, there are a few positives worth mentioning: the front desk staff are friendly and welcoming, it has a cozy “locals gym” vibe, it’s not crowded during morning hours, and the 24-hour limited access is convenient.

That said, I had a frustrating experience trying to cancel my membership, which is why I’m leaving 2 stars. I called before my annual contract was due to renew and asked if I needed to take any additional steps to cancel. The front desk staff informed me there were no payments due and that my membership would end. I even asked her to double-check with the manager and to call me back if anything else was required. I didn’t hear back, so I assumed everything was handled.

Unfortunately, the next month, I was charged both the annual and monthly fees. When I called to address this, the manager told me I needed to cancel in person or via a certified letter—something I wasn’t informed of in my initial call. I sent the certified letter weeks ago but haven’t received my return receipt, and I’ve now been charged for yet another month.

I’ve tried calling to follow up, but the manager hasn’t been available, and despite being promised a return call over a week ago, I still haven’t heard back.

While there are some good aspects of this gym, the membership cancellation process and lack of follow-through have been incredibly frustrating. I hope they improve communication and streamline their policies in the future.

I appreciate that I received my refund, thank you. When I called to cancel, I wasn’t informed that it had to be done in person or via certified letter. I won’t dwell on the back-and-forth over what was communicated, but I do want to thank you for resolving the issue. I wish you and your gym continued success in the future.

As a military veteran I’ve been to all different types of gym. I have never encountered a situation where a sweater on the floor literally beside my feet to be considered as a liability for the facility. A random old man which is the owner even told me if I have a problem with him pointing out my jacket to be a liability. Of course I do I’ve been working out for 10 years and I have never heard something so ridiculous. So I looked at other members if he’s going to point out the same thing. And to my guess he didn’t he singled me out basically, and I got photos of other people doing it too even their gym bags is on the floor. I hate pulling out the race card but thats what it looks like to me old man.

I was not going to post this and decided to not escalate this further, but the lady that I was talking to said my membership last day was on February 9th after requesting for a cancellation and today December 15 the keyfob stopped working. So now I’m going to be paying for a non working keyfob.

I like the disrespect you have given me and I thought your gym was my safe space.

Do not go to this gym. I was a member here(still am). I paid in full for what I thought was a year but a year later I am told I paid through September. These things happen and while I switched gyms, as I do, so wanted to simply transfer my account to my family member for the remaining months that have been paid for. But with no flexibility at all I was told this was "impossible to do." To change the name and photo on the account is a task that is beyond them. No option given except to start a whole other account for my family member. This is terrible customer service and hopefully shows you how they really care and feel about their members. I could talk about the gross bathroom floors and toilets, the rudness of people there who consistently don't wipe down the machines, the terrible state of the red light therapy cocoons, the messed up pads on machines, machines sometimes taking months to fix, but this post is particularly pertaining to the terrible customer service I received. I like to think that people I do business with care about my business and as en extension the experience I get when dealing with them but it seems this is not that type of place. I had a better impression of this gym in the past but they decided to show their true colors and attitudes toward their members and It has come up lacking. I repeat if you want good customer service when you need it, and want to feel at least appreciated for spending your hard earned money DO NOT GO TO THIS GYM.

I was told I wouldn’t be charged this month by a young woman who is always at the front desk. She looked at the dates I would be charged and said I would not be charged this month. She said to call if I was charged still and they would refund the money. I was charged this month. I called like the woman told me to if I got charged. The manager told me she was wrong and would not return my money. He had an attitude from the beginning and wasn’t willing to solve the problem. He didn’t know how to handle the situation he just sat on the phone and said nothing except she was wrong. Obviously the staff if not trained properly like he claimed. This gym is over crowded and the staff is so rude. Not worth the membership. I was with this gym for more than 4 years. I am very disappointed. And they don’t have the “latest and greatest” equipment.

This gym is fantastic! Having been a member of other gyms, it is refreshing to have a great local gym that cares about it’s members. The staff are some of the best people in Reno and the owners have made upgrades to keep the gym equipment modern as well as updated. Stay Away—My wife and I canceled our memberships on Jun19th, here it is Sept 9th, and still getting charged. I have called the gym twice and get referred to a third party billing agency. This place is an absolute sham of a business. I don’t ever go to the point of complaining, but this is completely outrageous. I haven’t lived in Nevada for nearly 3 years. I canceled my membership when I moved away and they randomly started charging me again. I have called multiple times and “John” is never there. You can’t charge people for a service they aren’t utilizing. At this point BodyFuel owes me nearly $350 dollars. It doesn’t matter how many times I call or email, they won’t fix it. It’s insanity. I shouldn’t have to cancel my credit card to stop being charged for this. What a ridiculous concept. Clearly based on the reviews on google and yelp, this happens to a lot of people. I was a very loyal member for years before I moved away. It’s disappointing, disrespectful, and flat out poor business. Don’t have a business if you can’t run one. I got a really bad experience. I canceled my membership in July, but at the end of July, I got a monthly fee charge.
So I went to the gym and talk to some ladies, they said my member is not canceled, so I cancel again, and make sure I’m canceled. One lady said, my member was canceled, and the first and last month fee I paid the first day I open my member will back to my account.
After two months, I got a mail that said, I need pay 10.99 to cancel my member, I call them, and they said after I canceled my member, they will have 30-60days to pending cancel.
My first and last month's fees never back to my card, and another charge to cancel my membership.
I also got really bad memories of my last call. That manager’s voice sounds impatient, not to fix the problem.

I am really sad to have to write this review, but I think it is absolutely necessary. I canceled my membership back in January, as I needed a gym that was closer to where I lived. I had to pay an additional $60 when canceling, as I was breaking my contract. I signed all of the necessary papers, and I fully believed my membership was canceled. I started receiving charges two months later, and as soon as I noticed, I called. Due to covid, the gym was shut down, and I couldn't get through. Once the gym opened again, I called and was told the manager would return my call. That didn't happen. I called another two times, and still, the manager did not call. Finally, I sent an email explaining my frustration, and someone named John responded saying I never canceled my membership. As I didn't save my cancellation papers, I had to prove I canceled by sending in my bank statements. He finally agreed that I had canceled, but as I "didn't call earlier", he didn't think he could refund me for the additional membership charges. I explained that I had called previously, so he said he would look into it, and he would get back to me. This conversation happened in October, and I followed up in November, and I have still not received a response from John. This has been such an awful and unprofessional experience, and at this point, I am just so over it. I feel as though I have done everything I could to make this a smooth process, and I have just been treated poorly and ignored. I will follow up with John again, but at this point, I know I will be ignored. I have never written a poor review for any company before, but I think it is extremely important to make others aware of how this gym operates. If you need to cancel for any reason, double-check that your membership has actually been canceled. And, keep the cancellation papers or payment confirmation. If you don't, your membership most likely will not be canceled, you most likely will not be refunded, and the manager will not follow up with you. This is obviously not the first time this has happened, as there are plenty of other reviews where people have had similar experiences. If you want to support this gym, go for it, but keep this review in mind if you decide to cancel. I hope the management at Body Fuel will treat its members and customers better in the future.

The staff is friendly which is always nice. The downside is that the equipment shows it's wear and they're slow about repair and maintenance. Fees are quite reasonable and the gym is conveniently located. My biggest concern is cleanliness. Dust, hair, and tracked in dirt are common, while spilled beverages and stuffed paper towels in and around the equipment happens and lingers on a less frequent basis. It would be so easy to get this gym to a 4-5 star rating if maintenance of the equipment and facility were taken more seriously.

I am currently in the process of canceling my membership at Body Fuel and I've already sent my letter to the mysterious Texas location for a gym cancellation. The response I got back was that I have an outstanding due balance even though I've had an auto draft pay set up from the very beginning. They didn't explain how/why I am being charged this outstanding due balance (which is BS) so as of right now my cancellation request hasn't been processed because I have to cough up some money first.

All in all, canceling a membership at Body Fuel is frustrating and I'm scared that in the long run, this will hurt my credit immensely.

First gym ever I can say I actually look forward going to! Staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. Equipment is in good shape with frequent new additions. My trainer Jason has helped me develop discipline in addition to strength. He’s intuitive and pays attention to my weak spots while encouraging my strengths. Has all the equipment and space needed to suit any sort of training style. The staff is great, the trainers are knowlegeble and can answer questions. In general this gym just has a good atmosphere and general group of regulars.

Great place. Had to leave, though, because the diligent front desk girl wouldn't allow me to bring a buddy 4 minutes past 10pm which led to one of my best 45 minute, high intensity, chest day (the best day). I'll be back still. I've only been a member since 2007. Best place to start the morning off with.

Bodyfuel Fitness is family owned and doesn't have that "commercial gym" feel at all. Rates and terms are fair. I have been a member here for 10 years and have never felt scammed or overcharged by fine print clauses, etc. The owner/manager actually chooses ethical business practices that result in happy customers over seeing how much he can squeeze out of them. The daycare is about the best you will find. My four year old daughter summarizes, "it's the best play place ever . . . but it could be a little better if it had two ponies." The trainers are elite, knowledgeable, and friendly. The facility is clean and has sufficient amenities. There is enough variety of machines, free weights, cardio machines, and aerobics classes to be sufficient for everything a typical member would be looking for. There is a room with space for stretching/calisthenics/cross-fit type activities, which I especially appreciate. Finally, the owner adds new equipment every single year and has at least since I was a member in 2008.

This is a great gym! I have been going there for almost 5 years and I could not be happier. The kids club is fantastic and is Washoe County certified so your kids are in good hands. The staff is very friendly as well. They are consistently improving their equipment as well.

Great gym. Very clean. Helpful staff. Many classes offered. They have 3 of the best zumba instructors in town. The dance floor is amazing; it has a basketball spring to it. It really saves the feet and knees. The Friday evening aerobics class, Dancing to Broadway Music, is a super fun workout.

Worst fitness club experience in 20yr of attending gyms. 👎👎👎
First off, this place is filthy. In the year that I was a member, they didn't once vacuum the floor. I know this because there was a section where the drywall had been damaged by some weights and the drywall pieces along with the rest of the dust and hair was still on the floor when I left.
Additionally, the mirrors were never wiped down and as a result they were covered in spit and sweat.
When I signed up for the membership they refused to show me the paperwork and made me sign on a digital signature pad. So I had no idea, beyond what the representative was telling me, what I was signing. Then when it came time for me to cancel the membership they refused to cancel the membership and sat on it for six months without telling me until they contacted me with a $300 bill and threatened to send it to collections. Apparently I was not the first person to be scammed in this way.
I suggest you do your due diligence and research other reviews before signing a contract with these crooks.

DO NOT GO TO THIS GYM! Disgusting, always spittle on the mirrors and ripped padding everywhere. Then there's the cancellation process. We had a month to month membership and they still wanted us to send a certified letter to Texas. Still unresolved and it's been 6 months since we stopped going. I'm sure plenty of former memebers to this gym already know this, but I'll say my story too. I signed a contract, exceeded the time period of that contract, and began paying month-to-month. When I moved out of the state entirely, I cancelled my membership. Do you know what that entails? To "cancel" you have to send a certified letter to a random address Texas. Certified. To cancel a membership.

Months later, when I found I'd been sent to collections, they said they had no record of said cancellation. The gym manager offered to do nothing. I can't get ahold of anyone in Texas, and now I'm fighting this in collections.

So, if you'd like to go to a moderately clean gym with semi-new equipment and NEVER cancel your membership or move, you'll be set. But remember when signing that contract that you are preparing to sign your soul over.

This gym is fantastic! A lot of equipment to choose from. Upstairs is filled with cardio and downstairs filled with tons of weights. I rarely have to wait for any equipment. They also have specials for new member sign ups and I found a great deal for me and my wife. After 13 weeks I found that the afternoon is the best time to work out.

John is shady and it takes a certified letter to a place in Texas to close your account. But beware, they charge you an extra month after you cxl your account.
John needs to have a little better customer service and not be such a jerk.
I tried to talk to him because I sent in a letter (not certified) to cancel my account.
His place in Texas did not receive it. I tried for weeks to fix this.
A lot of fees that are not transparent and he even told me he would charge me $15 for a copy of my contract so I could review it. I lost my original one in a house fire.
Beware... Many alternatives very close.

In the time I have been a member its been great. The staff is always super welcoming and helpful! There are a variety of classes with approachable instructors. Its almost like the caliber of members is top notch and all supportive regardless of what your goals are! The equipment is taken well care of. I don't have kids but can see how the kids care center can allow parents and family still adopt a healthy lifestyle.

We joined over a year ago. Facility was always dirty and once we tried to cancel it was a run around. We were told our membership was for 15 months so we cancelled a month before but they still charged us an annual fee without notifying us. They are still charging us and we have sent certified letters to a company in Texas because we cannot cancel at Body Fuel, emails, phone calls and they still have not responded and we are still being charged!!! Body Fuel is shady and once you join it is impossible to cancel!

This is one shady place. they have so many hidden fees and its impossible to cancel. Me and my family have been trying to cancel our membership but we have to send a letter somewhere in texas for a gym in nevada. They where quick to sign us up no problem but when we ask to cancel they can't help us. we have to do all of this crap. i feel very mistreated. they still haven't responded to my letter and i am still being charged. So now they are just ignoring our letters. stay away unless you want to be a member for life.

Body Fuel is definately a supportive environment. I workout at the competitive level and feel as though the Dynamic Fitness team (Carlos and Greta) and the staff continue to support me. Their child care is the only facility that is licensed in the Reno Sparks area. Thanks specifically to Katy (front desk), Katelynn (kids center), & the motivational members!
