Friendly with the best prices around as far as I know. Not too busy most of the time so there is always a great variety of open walls. We went one time and became members the second time. Lots of bouldering, good variety of walls and routes, slack line, clean bathrooms, and they now have a yoga studio and small lifting area. Definitely our go to place!

This gym is amazing! The staff was great - very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful (thank you Robert!!) The space was very clean and well kept. I especially appreciated that they were aware of the different needs of the different ranges of experience we had in our group (a first-time climber all the way to a relatively experienced climber.) Outstanding experience here at North Peak! Robert was the man and got me and my buddy all set up for climbing in Reno when the snow didn't show up on our ski trip. He was a fantastic guide for a few hours and it was absolutely free for our first time. Highly recommend this place.

I had a fantastic experience here as a first time climber. I came with myself and a friend who knew nothing. The kind woman working at the front morning of 9/11/24 took the time to show us everything we needed to know. After that, we walked into the gym and we're surrounded by massive walls and boulders. All labeled, and numbered their climber codes. A large group of children came in. The woman at the counter did a fantastic job making sure all the children climbed safely, while also helping to belay (I think that's correct term) everyone in the park.

The gym was extremely clean, very well, put together, and had absolutely incredible staff. Would absolutely come again.

I’ve met the owner when I did clinicals at st Mary’s, he’s a nice guy. I’ve climbed here way back in the day, my dad has been a member. It’s good but unfortunately I think they’ve over promised and under delivered. I’m a tree climber and so my son wants to climb (basically anything) and for his birthday wanted to climb here.

My wife and I have tried to get something set up but at every turn they’ve fallen flat. From the girl answering the phone being completely incompetent (I over heard her relaying my questions) to Ernest who couldn’t be bothered on 3 different occasions to return a phone call or email.

Just disappointing since it’s a small locally owned business but honestly not shocking. This is the reason small businesses can’t compete with larger companies, accountability and structure. It’s fine if you just wanna go in an climb but past that don’t expect there to be a very small business customer first mentality.

Super friendly gym, staff went out of their way to do a lead belay test for us on a Saturday afternoon and gave us some great safety tips. Had a lot of fun, good number of routes with cracks and features on the wall. Ladies bathroom looked recently renovated, very clean.

Recently, this place has really fallen apart. The lady's room is out of commission constantly, which is completely unacceptable. The walls are cracked in places, so one of the corners is completely blocked off. Most of the staff is amazing, but one employee, Eric, has argued with my family and I multiple times for no real reason. We do not feel safe climbing with him around, so we aren't coming back.

One staff member in particular who is there all the time, Eric, is very argumentative, not nice to deal with, and disrespectful. The place needs some major updating. Ladies bathrooms are often out of order, and most lights don't work. Some of the routes are closed because they are "unsafe". However, the route setters and most of the other staff members are extremely nice.

This gym used to be great because of the lovely staff. As of lately the new manager has brought the place down hill significantly. I believe he workers are all on strike due to the lack of safety measures being taken in the gyms environment. I can assure you from first hand experiences the owner of the gym does not care about his business. I’ve even heard of times where credit cards have been reactivated months after cancellations. I would not recommend giving this gym your credit/debit card info. The routes are great but the environment has significantly gone down hill in my recent visits. 10/10 would stay far away

Visiting from out of town. Didn’t want to drop a bunch of money at Mesa Rim. North Peak has auto belays, sweet boulder problems, solid top rope routes, a small but well outfitted little gym/yoga section, and a super chill staff. Exactly what I was looking for. The $12 early bird special is pretty hard to beat. Not your super high speed modern gym but not sketchy or outdated. If you’re trying to get a good session in at a smaller local gym this is the place! Will be coming back on my next trip through Reno.

The staff are very friendly, understanding, patient, and kind. The routes are fun and there are plenty to try for all levels of experience. They have an abundance of both bouldering and top rope and the renovations done make the place beautiful and comforting. Rentals are included in daily passes as far as I know and the membership price is pretty good too, 3 days out of the month and it’s paid for itself. The showers and bathroom are clean, the equipment is solid, and the pads are good too. Thanks for a great experience guys!

Here's the thing, this is not the biggest, tallest climbing gym with the fanciest facilities, but it is very much a contribution to the climbing community in Reno and as a whole. The atmosphere of this place is awesome and the setting is perfectly good (though I probably haven't climbed here enough to have an adequate analysis). The staff are welcoming and just all-around awesome so I highly recommend giving this place a visit for an enjoyable and chill experience.

North Peak is great because it isnt super crowded and has the choice for bouldering or top rop. North Peak has 3 Auto-Bilays, so if youre not bilay certified you can still climb with a harness. I would like to see the bouldering walls get changed out a little more. Its pretty cheap, and have deal days!

Used to go here a lot, both while they were called "Rock Sport," and then I had a membership for a few months after they reopened as "North Peak"

PROS: North Peak is the place to go for affordable top rope or lead climbing. A big plus, is they are the only gym with indoor auto-belays, which is great for my introvert self. They do also offer some bouldering, but throughout my time there, I found their boulder problems to be weirdly hard? Maybe that's just me, but it was discouraging, falling down two grades from what I was used to.

Also, I always enjoyed the chill, quiet, laid back atmosphere of North Peak.

Fresh, well lit locker rooms were a great upgrade.

CONS: Now, I haven't been there in a couple months, but I cancelled my membership (I had two- at Basecamp, and North Peak) because they were VERY slow to reset new climbs, and the walls got stale. When I cancelled, they assured me they would be resetting the walls more frequently. Maybe they have, but I would highly encourage you to commit to a week or even month by month before buying a year membership.

I'd love to visit North Peak on occasion, but its just not my gym. Maybe more of a day-pass kind of gym for me.

I was brought to this gym as a guest & left as a member. I didnt expect much from going in because I thought I was doing some fun activity to pass time, but as soon as I walked through the door, the staff was so welcoming! I started on the auto belay, then wanted to try a top rope wall so Ernest came by to help us out. He gave us tips for climbing and mentioned the belay class so that we have access to more walls if we wanted. After taking the belay class with Ernest, we can further practice on our climbing and belay techniques!

I signed up for the new summer promotion and it has been a great experience! I recently took up climbing as a way to have fun while exercising. I went to a bigger gym before and found the crowds and facilities to be very overwhelming. North Peak has everything I need to feel comfortable while learning. All my interactions with the staff have been very encouraging and helpful. Wish I could give this place 0 stars. Do not take the class here unless you want to spend 4+ hrs talking about the history of the climbing and the instructors life. When asked what time this class ran too at 2:08 the instructor became very aggressive and rude. Made us feel very uncomfortable. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Mesa rim is far superior in the area and worth every extra dollar spent. 0/5 stars.
